New Dehli (The Hawk): Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has said IGNOU should become the knowledge centre of the world. Addressing the the 35th convocation of IGNOU he called for leveraging technology to reach the unreached.The Minister said today’s convocation at IGNOU is a big confidence booster as it reflects the immense possibilities of the innovative pedagogy of the university. He said IGNOU has emerged as modern day Lord Hanuman in taking education and learning to the remotest corners and to the poorest. Shri Pradhan said 21st century is the century of knowledge. He said if we want to establish India as a knowledge-based economic superpower, we must ensure a paradigm shift in our education landscape. He said NEP2020 is a step towards transforming our education and skills’ landscape.The minister said technology is the new equaliser. We must ensure empowerment of our population through innovation, especially those at the bottom of the pyramid and also ensure that education reaches the unreached. Jammu: Highlighting that the future of our country depends on the good education of our young population, President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday said that talented young people are going to build India's future and are going to make the lives of the people better. President Ram Nath Kovind graced and addressed the 5th annual convocation of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.aninews.in/topic/indian-institute-of-management" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); background-color: transparent;">Indian Institute of Management</a>, Jammu on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that education is the greatest enabler. "The future of our country depends on good education of our young population. Institutes like IIM Jammu are nurturing our youths. These talented young people are going to build India of the future. They are going to make the lives of the people, better, and the country, stronger."The President said that as we know, the National Education Policy seeks to position India as a 'Knowledge Hub' in today's knowledge economy. "It seeks to make our youth equipped for the world of the 21st century while preserving our ancient values which remain relevant even today. For India to become a global knowledge hub, our institutes of learning have to be globally comparable," President said. He was happy to note that the number of Indian institutions in the global ranking is gradually increasing. He said that new institutions like IIM Jammu should quickly adopt global best practices and aspire for higher ranking. The President said that aided by the convergence of technologies and opportunities, many start-ups have become very successful and are being described as the emerging mainstay of the Indian economy. "Unicorns, most of which are set up by young people, must be a source of inspiration for all students. The mindset of being a job-giver and not a job-seeker among the youth of India is one of the key factors in our country having one of the best start-up ecosystems in the world," he said.He was happy to note that IIM Jammu, in collaboration with DICCI and CII, is going to set up a special diversity cell for helping potential entrepreneurs from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. He appreciated everyone concerned with this initiative to promote entrepreneurship and inclusion. The President advised students to remain quick learners and re-learners throughout their life. He said that the role of fast-paced technological changes is going to be disruptive. The shelf life of technologies is getting shorter. Therefore, the shelf life of management and leadership styles is also going to be shorter. "To deal with such a scenario, they have to move from the mindset of 'utilising the known' to the approach of 'exploring the unknown. They have to move beyond their comfort zones to the areas of uncertainty. They have to convert challenges into opportunities. They have to be 'pro-changers' and yet be sensitised to 'no-changers' for converting them as supporters of change. They have to look at tomorrow while learning from yesterday. They have to create their future based on the relevant learning from the past. He advised them to keep an open mind, an open heart and a strong will. He said that a really good entrepreneur, good manager or a good business leader is one who believes in doing well by doing good. Excellence and ethics go together," President said.—ANI

He also said that unified health interface that will integrate various healthcare systems to provide common interface to stakeholders. Dr Praveen Gedam, Addl. CEO, NHA &amp; Mission Director, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) explained the ABDM and emphasized Electronic Health Record and its role in creating digital health ecosystem. Dr. Seema Khanna, DDG, NIC shared the genesis of Aarogya Setu, its impact in terms of 216 Million downloads and how the privacy concerns have been taken care. Dr. Sanjay Sood, Project Director, CDAC moderated the session and shared his insight on e-Sanjeevani, a telemedicine solution that has benefitted 8.1 Million consultations.&nbsp;&nbsp;This was followed by two parallel thematic sessions titled ‘AgriStack’ and ‘Technology Stack for Skilling’.AgriStackMr. J. The soil health card workflow, its coverage on pan-India basis, success stories and potential use cases were discussed. Electronic National Agriculture Market (E-NAM), its coverage across 1260 agriculture markets across 25 States and UTs were explained. Mobile based app called M4AGRI and Kisan Sarathi and its operational status in 6 NER States were covered. The panel concluded that integration of agri-related systems is the way forward as envisaged under IDEA.Skilling StackDr. Jaideep Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, MeitY moderated the Technology Stack for Skilling. Mr. Hemang Jani, Secretary, Capacity Building Commission, Ms. Deepali Upadhyay, Director-AIM (NITI Aayog), and Ms. Kirti Seth, CEO, NASSCOM - Future Skills, graced the sessions as panelists and put forth their views on Mission KarmaYogi, Atal Tinkering Lab, FutureSkills Prime, Digital Literacy, Capacity Building Through Technology and iGoT. Second Day Of ‘India Stack Knowledge Exchange’ Witnesses Brainstorming Discussion & Knowledge Sharing On Health Stack, Agri-Stack, Skilling Stack & Digital Inclusion

New Delhi (The Hawk): The Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the “Widening access of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) database to users, besides patent offices”. The opening up of the TKDL database to users is an ambitious and forward-looking action by the Government of India. This will be a new dawn for Indian traditional knowledge, as the TKDL will drive research &amp; development, and innovation based on India’s valued heritage across diverse fields. The opening up of the TKDL is also envisaged to inculcate thought and knowledge leadership through Bharatiya Gnana Parampara, under the New Education Policy 2020.
Indian traditional knowledge (TK) offers immense potential to serve national and global needs, therewith providing societal benefits as well as economic growth. For example, the traditional systems of medicine and wellness from our country, namely Ayurveda. Siddha, Unani, Sowa Rigpa, and Yoga are serving the needs of people from India and abroad even today. The recent COVID- 19 pandemic has also been witnessing extensive use of Indian traditional medicines whose benefits range from immune-boosting to symptoms-relief to anti-viral activity. Earlier this year in April, the World Health Organization (WHO) established its first off-shore Global Centre for Traditional Medicines (GCTM) in India. These demonstrate the continued relevance of traditional knowledge in address the current and emerging needs of the world.&nbsp;
The approval of the Cabinet to widen the access of the database beyond patent offices lays emphasis on integrating and co-opting traditional knowledge with current practices towards enhancing innovation and trade. The TKDL will act as an important sources of TK information for advancing knowledge and technology frontiers. The current contents of TKDL shall facilitate wider adoption of Indian traditional medicines, while also propelling new manufacturers and innovators to gainfully build enterprises based on our valuable knowledge heritage.
The TKDL can cater to a vast user base that would include businesses/companies {herbal healthcare (AYUSH, pharmaceuticals, phytopharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals), personal care, and other FMCG}, research institutions: public and private; educational institutions: educators &amp; students; and others: ISM practitioners, knowledge holders, patentees and their legal representatives, and government, among several others. The access to the TKDL database would be through a paid subscription model with a phase-wise opening to national and international users.
In future, more information on Indian traditional knowledge from other domains will be added to the TKDL database from the perspectives of the “3P – Preservation. Protection and Promotion”. While catering to its primary mandate of preventing grant of wrong patents on Indian traditional knowledge, the TKDL database will also push creative minds to innovate for better, safer and more effective solutions for a healthier and technology endowed population. India’s rich heritage shall lay a strong foundation for newer socio-economic developments.
About TKDL: The Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is a prior art database of Indian traditional knowledge established in 2001, jointly by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&amp;H, now Ministry of AYUSH). The TKDL is a first of its kind globally and has been serving as an exemplary model to other nations. The TKDL currently contains information from existing literature related to ISM such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Yoga. The information is documented in a digitized format in five international languages which are English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish. TKDL provides information in languages and format understandable by patent examiners at Patent Offices worldwide, so as to prevent the erroneous grant of patents. Until now, access to the complete TKDL database is restricted to 14 Patent Offices worldwide for the purposes of search and examination. New Delhi (The Hawk): The Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle (INPI; the National Industrial Property Institute), France and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) entered into a cooperation on the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) Access through an Agreement in the gracious presence of Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, DG, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR. The Agreement was exchanged by Mr. Sebastien Connan, Regional IP Counselor for India and Dr. Viswajanani J Sattigeri, Scientist-H and Head, CSIR-TKDL Unit. Through this Agreement, the INPI, France gains access to the complete TKDL database towards examining prior art related to Indian traditional knowledge for the purposes of patent grant procedure.
Speaking on the occasion, DG, CSIR welcomed the collaboration with France in the area of traditional knowledge. She encouraged concerted efforts for upcoming health care challenges. Mr. Connan while thanking India for the cooperation stated that the TKDL database would be an important instrument not only for the INPI but also for the traditional industrial entities in France. He stated that France also looks forward to strengthening ties with the CSIR for scientific pursuits in traditional areas.
The signing of the TKDL Access Agreement with the INPI, France marks the beginning of a new partnership and mutual cooperation in the domains of Intellectual Property Rights as well as traditional knowledge between France and India.
About TKDL:
The TKDL database, first of its kind worldwide, was established in 2001 by the Government of India, through a collaboration between CSIR and Ministry of AYUSH. The key objective of the TKDL is to prevent the erroneous grant of patents on Indian traditional knowledge (TK) and deter misappropriation of the country’s traditional knowledge. Currently, the TKDL contains information on over 4.2 lakh formulations and techniques of Indian Systems of Medicine such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa Rigpa as well as Yoga from the traditional texts. The TK information from diverse languages and subject areas are transcribed into value-added information correlated with modern terminologies.
The TKDL information is presented in a digitized format in five international languages including English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish, and format easily understandable by patent examiners. As per the extant approvals in place, the TKDL database is available only to patent offices through TKDL Access Agreements. With this cooperation with Danish Patent and Trademark Office, the number of patent offices worldwide that have access to the TKDL database rises to fifteen.
The TKDL is a global benchmark in the defensive protection of traditional knowledge and has been successful in protecting India’s interest against any possible misuse of its heritage. The impact has been significant, with over 265 patent applications world-over being revoked, amended, withdrawn or abandoned, based on the prior art evidences presented from the TKDL database.

Jaipur (The Hawk): In order to serve as the knowledge partner for the FinTech Park, Jaipur, the Rajasthan State Industrial Development &amp; Investment Corporation Ltd. and the Indian Institute of Management-Udaipur (IIM-U) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In accordance with the MOU they signed, IIM-U Director Prof. Ashok Banerjee and Managing Director of RIICO Shivprasad Nakate will construct a thorough plan of creative skill development training programmes for RIICO officials as well as executives of businesses who establish offices in FinTech Park. Additionally, IIM-U will provide assistance in creating incubator facilities for financial firms there.
"Through this Memorandum of Understanding, IIM Udaipur has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the Rajasthani government in order to teach state administrators and FinTech employees in cutting-edge fields of digital technology. In the future, we'd want to extend our assistance in further areas of shared interest "Director of IIM-U remarked.
In addition, IIM Udaipur will conduct funded research and projects in emerging fields, provide long-term online certificate programmes for fresh talent, and provide brief in-person programmes on soft skills for executives in the FinTech Park.
Additionally, it will help and facilitate RIICO's Fintech-related operations and coverage.
Additionally, IIM-U students enrolled in the full-time MBA programme in digital enterprise management will have access to placements with FinTech Park businesses.

New Delhi (The Hawk): The Government of India stands committed to combat theglobal challenge of climate change. India has updated its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in August 2022. India has also prepared and submitted a separate framework document titled ‘India’s Long-term Low Carbon Development Strategy’ to the secretariat of the UNFCCC in November 2022 with the vision to reach net-zero by 2070. The Government is implementing many schemes and programs including the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) which comprises of missions in specific areas of solar energy, energy efficiency, water, sustainable agriculture, Himalayan ecosystem, sustainable habitat, green India, health and strategic knowledge for climate change.
The National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC), implemented by the Department of Science and Technology, under the NAPCC promotesresearch, knowledge generation and capacity building relating to climate science.The mission has been revised to align its objectives and priorities with the commitments of the country.
There are focused research and development (R&amp;D) programmes in climate change science and adaptation which are carried out through twelve Centres of Excellence (CoE), twenty threemajor R &amp; D programmes; seven Network Programmes and seven capacity building programmes. Thirteen Climate Change centers/ cells have been set up in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana to carry activities that connect their state action plans on climate change with NMSKCC priorities of action.&nbsp;

National Mission On Strategic Knowledge For Climate Change 

New Delhji (The Hawk): A total of 448764 ISM formulations including 127533 in Ayurveda, 240850 in Unani, 70158 in Siddha, and 5445 in Sowa Rigpa, and 4778 in Yoga techniques have been transcribed so far into the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) database. On the basis of TKDL evidences, so far, 283 patent applications have been either refused, amended or withdrawn/abandoned, thus protecting Indian traditional knowledge.
As per the national Biological Diversity (BD) Act, 2002, approval of the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) is necessary before seeking any IPR based on biological material and associated knowledge obtained from India. Under the BD Act, 2002 and Rules thereunder, the NBA has also been pursuing efforts on Peoples Biodiversity Register (PBR). The register is a tool for formal recording and maintenance of comprehensive information on availability and knowledge of local biological resources, their medicinal or any other use. The CSIR-TKDL Unit has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement with NBA for evaluating and identifying modalities for possible inclusion of information from the PBR into the TKDL database.
Under Section 3p of the Indian Patents Act, 1970, invention which in effect, is traditional knowledge or which is an aggregation or duplication of known properties of a traditionally known component or components, is non-patentable. In addition, the Patents Act, 1970 provides for disclosing the source and geographical origin of the biological material in the specification, when used in an invention and conveys the information to NBA, thereby facilitating compliance.
The Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is a prior art database of Indian traditional knowledge established in 2001, jointly by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy (Dept. of ISM&amp;H, now Ministry of AYUSH). The TKDL was established to prevent misappropriation of Indian traditional knowledge (TK) by way of intellectual property rights. The TKDL currently contains information from ancient texts related to ISM such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Yoga. The information from ancient texts of medicine and health existing in local languages such as Sanskrit, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Tamil, Bhoti etc., have been transcribed into five international languages, namely English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese in the TKDL database. The TKDL thus serves as a robust prior art database of Indian TK information therewith offering the information in languages and format understandable by patent examiners at Patent Offices worldwide. The TKDL thus prevents erroneous grant of patents by patent offices.
The access to this database is given to patent offices world-wide that have signed Non-disclosure Access Agreements with the CSIR, for search of TKDL evidences in the context of patent applications filed with them. The TKDL prior art database is currently available to 16 patent offices - including the Indian Patent Office (Controller General of Patents, Designs &amp; Trade Marks), European Patent Office, US Patent Office, Japanese Patent Office, German Patent Office, Canadian Patent Office, Chile Patent Office, Australian Patent Office, UK Patent Office, Malaysian Patent Office, Russian Patent Office, Peru Patent Office, Spanish Patent &amp; Trademark Office, Danish Patent and Trademark Office, National Industrial Property Institute (INPI, France) and Eurasian Patent Organization.
In addition to the use of TKDL database by patent offices, the CSIR-TKDL Unit also files third party observations/pre-grant oppositions on patent applications that have relevance to Indian traditional knowledge. This defensive protection through TKDL has been effective in safeguarding Indian traditional knowledge from misappropriation, and is considered a global benchmark.

Measures Taken To Protect The Ancient And Traditional Knowledge Of The Country

New Delhi: Ayurveda describes sleep as a basic instinct of life, essential to all living beings. Happiness and unhappiness, nourishment (proper physique) and non-nourishment, strength and debility, vigour and vitality, knowledge and ignorance, life span and death - all are dependant on sleep. Understanding Nidra (sleep): Ayurveda considers Nidra (sleep) as one of the three pillars of health, alongside Ahara (food) and Brahmacharya (code of conduct for energy management). Sleep is essential to ensure good health and well-being. It provides the basic strong resistance to combat minor diseases and imbalances on a long-term basis. An important function of sleep is the enhancement of Ojas (vital energy) the master coordinator between mind, body and soul. Ojus being the fine product of digestion and a life-supporting element, helps to insulate the mind from daily stress and exertion. The quality and quantity of sleep, therefore, need to be balanced, so as to enable effective functioning and it is necessary to disconnect the mind from the senses. Although people have acknowledged the importance of good diet and exercise, they tend to ignore the importance of sleep, which in turn can have drastic consequences on one's health. For this, the elements of sleep that play a major role in getting perfect sleep need to be understood and practised. New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday hailed the Centre's National Education Policy-2020, saying that it was aimed at making India a 'Global Knowledge Superpower'. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating Visitor's Conference 2023 on Monday, President Murmu said she was happy that the Union Ministry of Education, in coordination with all the stakeholders, is striving to make India a global knowledge hub in line with the National Education Policy.   Praising Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and his entire team for conceiving and organising this conference, the President also congratulated all the winners of the Visitor's Awards. "The objective behind introducing the National Education Policy-2020 is to make India a Global Knowledge Superpower and I am happy to note that the Union Ministry of Education, in coordination with all the stakeholders, is continuously making efforts in line with the National Education Policy," the President said. "The importance of education is paramount in the progress of individual, society and the country. This is a universal truth. Higher educational institutions will play an important role in achieving the goal of establishing India as a developed nation by the end of the Amrit Kaal -- by the year 2047," President Murmu added. "Only the countries that are knowledge superpowers, going forward, will rank among the global superpowers. To this end, the contribution of each and everyone of us to nation building will prove decisive," the President said. Sharing her lifestory, of "moving from my small village in Odisha to the city to study", President Murmu said, "Through the creation of an environment of sensitivity towards first generation students coming to higher-educational institutions, all of you will be discharging an important social responsibility." "Just as sensible and sensitive head and senior members of a joint family pay attention to the needs of each and every member, all of you -- the teachers and staff -- should be sensitive to the needs of the students. All of you are the guiding lights of the students as well as their parents. It should be your endeavor that the students get a safe and sensitive environment like their home on campuses and hostels of higher educational institutions," the President added. "About half of the students (at institutes of higher learning) belong to reserved classes. There were about 100 dropouts in IIMs, and the majority of them were from reserved classes. The issue of dropouts needs to be addressed very sensitively and a solution needs to be found," she said. "In a heart-wrenching incident last Saturday, a 20-year-old student died by suicide at IIT Delhi. Similar incidents have happened in many other educational institutions. This isn't just limited to a particular institution but is a matter of concern for the entire education world," the President added. (ANI)

New Delhi: The first crorepati of the  quiz-based reality show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' season 15 has been found. Jaskaran Singh has become the first contestant this season to win a whopping amount of Rs 1 Crore.
Singh hails from a small village Khalra, Punjab, which is at the cusp of the Indian border.
The 21-year-old would undertake a journey of two hours each to go to his college because he knew that knowledge is a leveller, which would take him one step closer to his dreams.&nbsp;
Back home, his college studies were harmoniously balanced with UPSC and KBC preparations. And all his hard work and dedication bore fruit when Jaskaran found himself sitting opposite Big B.
In the episode 17th of the show, Jaskaran who is in awe of the 80-year-old actor, said: "I listen to old Hindi songs on low volume while studying. Sir, your song 'Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein'...I play it on a loop”, which left Big B smiling.
Amitabh said: "Penned by Sahir Ludhianvi, it's a lovely song."
Jaskaran further said: "Sir, it has been my dream for years, I have worn headphones and waited, to hear you say this. And finally, I'm listening to you in reality."
Amitabh replied: "Let me tell you something frankly, Jaskaran. Our contestants make it here after a lot of hardship. When they talk about their life, and give an account of their struggles and circumstances, the audience as well as I pray that they do well in the game. May your dreams be fulfilled. This game is such that it can change a person's life within minutes and hours."
The contestant lauds the actor saying, "Your age does not define your tenure of work. Your heart chooses your passions."
"Sir, my grandparents are just like you. My grandparents have taught me one thing. No person is big or small. You're defined by your hard work," he said.
However, after winning Rs one crore, Jaskaran was not able to answer the Rs seven crore question and he decided to quit the game. Big B lauded his decision to quit the game at the high risk point.
The question of Rs 7 crore was: According to the Padma Purana, which king had to live as a tiger for a hundred years due to a deer's curse? The options given were- Kshemadhurti, Dharmadatta, Mitadhvaja and Prabhanjana.
The correct answer was 'Prabhanjana'.
Armed with an indomitable spirit, this young firebrand declared with flair that his journey was paved with perseverance, reminding us that the real adventure of learning only commences beyond the school walls. His dreams don't stop at Rs one crore, as Jaskaran unveiled his aspirations to become an IAS officer.
Talking about the same, Jaskaran said: "The leap from KBC study sessions to holding that Rs one crore rupee check is a symbol of transformation."
"My heartfelt thanks go to Amitabh Bachchan Sir, for bestowing me with his life lessons that emboldened me to take calculated risks. Dr. Aggarwal in her welcome address provided an overview of NIScPR’s One Week One Lab activities organised over the past four days. In her address, Dr. Aggarwal highlighted significant contributions of CSIR-NIScPR. The National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC) stands as the oldest and most extensive science consortium in India. Additionally, we host ISSN and publish 15 peer reviewed research journals. Our research endeavors are always aimed at creating a societal impact. Shri Mukesh A. Pund, Chief Scientist &amp; Coordinator of NKRC at CSIR-NIScPR, presented an overview of the event. The event also featured the signing of MoUs between CSIR &amp; DST and CSIR &amp; MoES regarding NKRC. On this occasion, ‘One Month One Lecture on e-resource’ initiative was also launched along with the release of the ‘NKRC Report: A Journey of 21 years and Special Issues: IJBB &amp; IJEMS’. The Chief Guest Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary, DST-SERB and Sr. Adviser, DST emphasized the global shift towards open science. He mentioned, “The world is transitioning from closed-door science to open science. India actively participated in UNESCO-led negotiations, resulting in international consensus on the importance of adopting open science policies. India is now moving towards open science as well.” He further elaborated, “Open access to resources funded by public money is imperative. We are implementing several open science initiatives under the STIP policy, including the creation of a comprehensive resource repository at the STI observatory. This archive will consolidate all resources in one accessible location.” Dr. Gupta stressed the need for mechanisms to tackle predatory journals and highlighted the potential of virtual spaces, as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic, where online participation expanded significantly. He added, “Learning should not be confined to physical modes but should encompass virtual and hybrid modes.” The Guest of Honour Dr. Suman Kumari Mishra, Director, CSIR-CGCRI (Kolkata) underscored the crucial role played by the National Knowledge Resource Consortium in advancing knowledge growth and progress. She expressed her gratitude for the easy access to knowledge resources and journals provided through CSIR-NIScPR. Dr. Mishra also emphasized the need for digital resource management and the importance of funding and revenue generation to facilitate the digital shift. Furthermore, she commended ‘Vigyan Pragati’ as a valuable scientific magazine and praised CSIR-NIScPR for its continuous publication and significant societal contributions. A Science Exhibition and Poster Presentation Competition were also organized with the theme: Societal Impact of your Research/Project undertaken. New Delhi [India]: Delhi University's Ramanujan College has issued an order making a certificate-cum-refresher course on Bhagavad Gita mandatory for its teaching and non-teaching staff. This has left a section of teachers miffed, who said this could lead to the propagation of "sectarian beliefs". The 20-day course is scheduled to run till January 9, both online and offline, from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm.

In an email to the teaching staff, college principal SP Aggarwal wrote: "This course is in line with the setting up of the Indian Knowledge System Centre at the college. In view of this, it is our responsibility to first sensitise ourselves through such programmes."
It further said that the college will hold such programmes not only for Bhagavad Gita but also for the Vedas, which are part of the Indian Knowledge System. Meanwhile, Teachers' outfit Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF) has demanded the withdrawal of the mandatory registration. In a statement, the DTF said Ramanujan principal SP Agarwal has "abused the powers vested in him to dictate" to all teachers and non-teaching staff to compulsorily register for and attend a refresher certificate course on Bhagavad Gita. "Illegally coercing teachers and non-teaching staff to remain engaged till 6.30 pm beyond official duties and the added burden of conducting the ongoing semester examinations of students is unacceptable," it added.

New Delhi (The Hawk): CSIR-NIO-Goa has concluded its month-long certificate course in Oceanography, marking a significant milestone in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among oceanographers and hydrographers. The course, which commenced on 15th January 2024, saw enthusiastic participation from delegates representing Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Seychelles. The course, a culmination of the maiden CSC Oceanographers and Hydrographers conference held in November 2022 in Goa and Hyderabad, aimed to deepen understanding and expertise in various facets of Oceanography. Under the expert guidance of 58 esteemed scientists from CSIR-NIO, participants delved into topics ranging from marine biology, ocean chemistry, and physics to seafloor geology, marine instrumentation, and archaeology. A panel of experts from diverse fields addressed the students on the NEP 2020.
