Dehradun (The Hawk): ‘’Mother nature can never be a hurdle, it’s just that we do not listen to the signals for safeguarding our environment’’, said Dr Samir Sinha, APCCF, Projects &amp; Community Forestry, Uttarakhand Forest Department while addressing as a Chief Guest at the valedictory session of the Summit. Dr Sinha shared that people find it difficult to adhere to environmental compliances and norms which is very crucial. He stressed to factor in environmental norms in the planning stage of any developmental project.While summarising the deliberations of&nbsp;the Summit, Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General UCOST highlighted some of the key initiatives taken by the industry such as enhancing usage of renewable energy, use of environment friendly technologies,&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Switching from single use plastic packaging to 100% recyclable paper-based packaging, concepts for reducing Fuel Consumption and Vehicle Emissions, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), importance of honey bee ants and fire flies in restoring ecosystem among others.Delivering the opening remarks at the Valedictory Session, Mr Bipen Gupta, Vice Chairman CII Uttarakhand State Council apprised that 21 speakers from diverse background participated in the Summit. Dehradun (The Hawk): GST is not the biggest Tax Reform but an Economic Reform for the nation opening opportunities for different sectors of the industries in India, said Mr Deepankar Aron, Commissioner, CGST, Dehradun, while speaking as Chief Guest at an interactive session organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Uttarakhand to mark the five years of GST reform. Mr Aron expressed that tax to GDP ratio needs to rise from 16 to 20% and this can help nation achieve a 10 trillion-dollar economy by 2025. He expressed that the biggest challenge of change from origin Based Tax to consumption Based Tax was beautifully addressed by the concept of IGST.&nbsp;Ms Sonia Garg, Chairperson, CII Uttarakhand State Council &amp; CEO, Forace Industries in her welcome remarks mentioned that a country's taxation environment must be conducive for industry to achieve efficiencies that will enable them to be globally competitive.Governments agility &amp; business friendly approach in introducing GST &amp; its implementation has been highly commendable, said Mr Hemant K. Arora, Past Chairman, CII Uttarakhand &amp; Managing Partner Hemant Arora &amp; Co. He suggested that filing of the GST returns should be more simplified. Mr Harshit Gupta, Chair YI Dehradun &amp; Partner, N. Kumar Gupta &amp; Associates shared that being a complex country with the richest and the poorest people in the world, requested tax department to be generous with the society. Roorkee (The Hawk): Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) hosted an online event today at CII Hive, "Women in STEM Summit: Pioneers leading the way across Science, Technology, Engineering &amp; Mathematics". The Summit featured the release of a Compendium titled, "Women in STEM: Vanguards of India@75",which included the accomplishment&nbsp;and stories of 125&nbsp;Indian Women, and the list includes five faculty members from the Indian&nbsp;Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee&nbsp;(IIT Roorkee), namely Prof. Kusum Deep, Prof. Debrupa Lahiri, Prof. Millie Pant, Prof. Mahua Mukherjee, and Prof. Pranita P. Sarangi. The event was graced by Prof Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India who released the Compendium at the Inaugural Session of the Summit.&nbsp;The event commemorates the glorious 75 years of a progressive India and recognizes the role of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering &amp; Mathematics. It is noteworthy to point out that the event was hosted on Pie approximation Day, July 22, 2022.Women in STEM: Vanguards of India@75' is an initiative to promote gender equality in the field of STEM from the tertiary level to the professional level of education. And where women’s representation in the field of STEM is but a small fraction worldwide, in India women are well represented in tertiary education with almost 43 percent of the total graduate in Stem. IIT Roorkee Faculty members feature achievements of women in 'Women in Stem Summit' hosted by CII

Haridwar (The Hawk): Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttarakhand organized a two-day Manufacturing Excellence Learning Mission to World Class Companies on 25 - 26 August 2022 at SIIDCUL, Haridwar. CII industry delegation visited four industries that have excelled in the various sectors including Automobile, FMCG and Heavy Engineering – Hero MotoCorp Ltd, ITC Ltd, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra. The key objective of the mission was to share &amp; learn the best practices in manufacturing operations of the visited companies that make them leaders in their respective areas of work and to enhance competitiveness.
Mr Yashpal Sardana, Plant Head at Hero MotoCorp Ltd, Haridwar shared that such missions provides an opportunity to the participants to have first-hand exposure and insight on the technological strengths of the visited companies. He expressed that such activities share various innovative and successful practices implemented at the workplaces of these organizations, providing great learning opportunities to the mission members. They also briefed the delegates on the dedicated vendor park and how it is mutually beneficial for the vendors and the company.
At ITC Ltd, the delegates were welcomed by Mr Aniruddh Verma, Head ICML and were given an overview of the best manufacturing practices. Various cost saving techniques, tools were shared with delegates. Delegates were also apprised that ITC is the only company in the world of comparable dimensions to be carbon, water and solid waste recycling positive. Officials added that company is Carbon Positive, Water Positive and Solid Waste recycling positive for many years.
At Mahindra &amp; Mahindra delegates were welcomed by Mr Satyavir Singh, Plant Head and during the presentation vision of Mahindra &amp; were shared with the delegates. They were appraised about the various area specific programmes undertaken in plant manufacturing processes and various cost saving techniques were showcased. During the visit delegates were taken to major shop floor managing its operations though world class processes. Shop floor Kaizen were shared and briefed for enhancing competitiveness.
Mr Rakesh Maniktala, Head - Communication &amp; Public Relations at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd briefed the delegates about the plant’s core area of Operations. On shop floor delegates were appraised about 800 MW Turbo generators and Steam Turbines. Delegates were also taken to assembly areas, machine shops, design areas for explaining complex manufacturing processes. Fully automated New Blade Shop for Turbines was shown to delegates.
During the visit of delegation to each of these companies, ideas &amp; thoughts were exchanged on how TQM, TPM, Supply Chain Management, Employee Involvement, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizens can help organizations to grow and attain high profitability levels. The companies also shared their CSR and HR initiatives.
42 delegates from 15 companies across the spectrum like JCB Limited, Uflex Limited, UJVN Limited, Banas Dairy (AMUL Group), Shree Amba Industries, UJVN Limited, Cool Cosmetics Pvt Ltd, E-Waste Recyclers India, Linc Limited, Lotus Beauty Care Products Pvt Ltd, North India Cables, Papcon (Indore) Pvt Ltd, Pluss Advanced Technologies Pvt Ltd, Symega Food Ingredients Ltd, CMR Green Technologies Limited were part of this delegation.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttarakhand organized a two-day Manufacturing Excellence Learning Mission to World Class Companies on 25 - 26 August 2022 at SIIDCUL, Haridwar. CII industry delegation visited four industries that have excelled in the various sectors including Automobile, FMCG and Heavy Engineering – Hero MotoCorp Ltd, ITC Ltd, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra. The key objective of the mission was to share & learn the best practices in manufacturing operations of the visited companies that make them leaders in their respective areas of work and to enhance competitiveness.

Making Industry Competitive; Learning From Best Manufacturing Practices Of World Class Companies In Haridwar

Dehradun (The Hawk): To cement India’s position as Pharmacy of the World the Department of Pharmaceuticals organised an intervention themed on “Strengthening of Pharmaceuticals Industry” (SPI) today in Haridwar with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) &amp; Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). The objective of this forum was to strengthen the existing infrastructure facilities of pharma clusters and to support MSMEs to meet national and international regulatory standards.
While addressing as the Chief Guest at the Session Dr Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Secretary Industries, Government of Uttarakhand shared that 22% of the countries demand of pharmaceuticals is met by Uttarakhand. He further added that the state government is keen to support pharma industry and invited industry to apply for the scheme and expressed that atleast two applications should be selected from the State. He opined that the pharma has a huge potential in exports which needs to be explored in a big way for the growth of the State.
Mr Abhishek Singh, Deputy Secretary Department of Pharmaceuticals said that SPI scheme has been introduced to strengthened MSME’s in pharmaceutical industry, so that MSMEs can compete with big foreign players. He further added the objective of this scheme is to support the MSME’s. While elaborating about the scheme he said that from the entire country ten projects will be selected. He requested Uttarakhand cluster to apply for the scheme and take advantage of it.
Mr R Ramesh, AGM, SIDBI apprised about the schemes for the pharma sector including Assistance to Pharmaceutical Industry for Common Facilities (APICF). The scheme offers 70% of the approved project cost or Rs 20 cr., whichever is less, as per approval of SSC. In the case of Himalayan States and States in the NER, Rs. 20 Crore per Cluster or 90% of the project cost of the Common Infrastructure Facilities (CIF), whichever is less will be provided.
Under the Pharmaceutical Technology Upgradation Assistance Scheme (PTUAS) Mr Ramesh shared that the Capital Subsidy of 10% on loan component will be provided (or) Interest Subvention of Max 5% P.A.
Ms Sonia Garg, Chairperson, CII Uttarakhand &amp; CEO, Forace Industries in her opening remarks shared that the Indian Government has already shown great support to the pharma industry through the launch of the PLI scheme. This is a significant step taken not only towards making India Aatmanirbhar as well as promote awareness that will lead to their overall development.
Mr Sandeep Jain, Past Chairman, CII Uttarakhand &amp; Co- Founder &amp; Managing Director, Akums Drugs &amp; Pharmaceutical Limited appreciated the proactive approach of the government of India and State Government for the development of pharmaceutical industry.
Mr Deepak Kumar Goyal, Partner, Sushima Laboratories in his closing remarks said that keeping in view the strategic role of MSMEs, which provide important forward and backward linkages to the industry, and also keeping in view that MSMEs tend to grow in clusters, these schemes shall address the issues of technology upgradation at both unit level and cluster level. Haridwar (The Hawk): Employee involvement in every activity is a key to success and growth for any organization, said Mr Pravin Chandra Jha, Executive Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Haridwar while addressing as Chief Guest at the Confederation of Indians Industry’s (CII) 35th Quality Circle Competition, Uttarakhand Preliminaries held at Haridwar. Mr Jha apprised that Quality Circle was first introduced by BHEL in 1980 and hence they are known as pioneers of this wonderful movement in India. He applauded the CIIs efforts for creating a platform to share knowledge and learn from participating companies problem-solving methodologies for enhancing product quality.
Mr Yashpal Sardana, Convener Panel on MSME and Competitiveness and Plant Head, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, Haridwar mentioned that Quality control is essential to building a successful business that delivers products that meet or exceed customers’ expectations. He further shared that Quality Circle is one of the employee participation methods and it implies the development of skills, capabilities, confidence, and creativity of the people through cumulative process of education, training, work experience and participation.
Over 150 workers and managerial from 20 circles from across various industry backgrounds participated in the competition and shared their case studies on the specific projects handled by them at their workplaces. The assessment of the presentations was made on a weighted scale covering different aspects of the Quality Circle activities. The evaluation was based on factors like problem selection, analysis, solution, presentation, etc.
The FUTURE SHAPERS Quality Circle from Honeywell Electrical Devices &amp; Systems India Limited, Dehradun was adjudged the winner and awarded as “Winners” in 35th QC Circle Preliminary Competition 2022 at SIIDCUL Haridwar. The “First Runner up Trophy” was won by UMANG Quality Circle from ITC Limited, Haridwar and PARIVARTAN Quality Circle from TVS Motor Company Limited, Solan bagged the “Second Runner up Trophy”. These teams will now participate in the Regional Finals as a pre runner to the National Competition.
Award for Best Problem Identification was bagged by KEY: Asahi India Glass Ltd, Roorkee; Award for Best Solution went to Team WINNER, DENSO India Pvt Limited, Noida; Award for Best Innovation won by STAR, Panasonic Life Solutions India Pvt Ltd, Haridwar, and Award for Creativity won by ACHIEVERS: ITC Limited. AKSHYA (585) from Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant, BHEL; LAKSHYA from Bajaj Consumer Care Ltd, Sirmour; SUNRISE from Minda Corporation limited Die Casting Division, Greater Noida received the Special Recognition Awards.
Mr Rajesh Makkar, Head – Manufacturing Operations, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Limited (Haridwar Plant) and Chief Jury Member shared that CII has been instrumental in organizing Quality Circle Competitions for the past 34 years at the State, Regional and National Level. The winners of today’s competition will go to the Regional Finals and then on to the National Finals. Mr Makkar shared that companies from the State and outside Uttarakhand have also participated in the competition which enabled deeper cross industry learnings. CII’s 35th Quality Circle Competition U'khand Preliminaries Of Rudrapur Edition Concludes 

Dehradun (The Hawk): “Department of Industries, Uttarakhand is focusing on Ease of Doing Business, Ease of Living and working towards Peace of Doing Business” said Dr Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Secretary Industries, Government of Uttarakhand while interacting with Uttarakhand Industry at an Interactive session organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today over virtual platform. Dr Pandey further mentioned that industry captains are the brand ambassadors of the State and urged them to promote USPs of the State which can help in attracting new investments and support in getting recognition at the National level. He assured of full support from the Department to existing industries who are looking for expansion or to setup new project.
Mr Rohit Meena, Managing Director, SIIDCUL Uttarakhand apprised on some of the initiative and projects Uttarakhand Government is working on which includes development of Pharma city wherein 73 acres of land has been allotted, Kashipur area electronic park which has already been launched and department is working on plot allotments, aroma park in Sitarganj, Plastic Park for which Center government has given almost 30 crore subsidies among other initiatives. Mr Meena further briefed about Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) wherein he shared that government of India would be releasing 400 crores for the development work in SIIDCUL area and which will bring huge developed to the State. Mr Meena added that department is also working on self-certificate and automation for ease of doing business which will be operational soon.&nbsp;&nbsp;

These issues were well addressed by the Department of Industries, and they assured wherever possible adequate action will be taken.&nbsp;

CII Holds Industry Interaction With Dept Of Industries Govt Of U'khand On Key Industrial Issues 

Dehradun (The Hawk): Uttarakhand’s strength is spiritual tourism and tourism department is working towards developing tourism circuits in Kumaon and 16 temples in Kumoan region have been identified to increase footfall in the region said Mr C Ravi Shankar, Additional Secretary Tourism, Govt of Uttarakhand while addressing CII Uttarakhand members during the interaction today at Dehradun. He apprised that currently average stay of tourist is 0.8 days and department is targeting to increase it to stay 2 days by 2025 and 5 days by 2030. He also apprised that about vibrant villages scheme launched by Govt of India UTDB which the programme envisages coverage of border villages on Northern border having sparse population, limited connectivity, and infrastructure, which often get left out from the development gains.
Ms Sonia Garg briefed participants about CII Uttarakhand Tourism, Hospitality &amp; Wellness Panel and informed that the panel is actively working towards the issues pertaining to the tourism industry and regularly holds Brainstorming Sessions with the stakeholders, to bring out the key concerns and possible solutions. The Committee has recently prepared recommendations on Hospitality &amp; Tourism which has been submitted to the tourism department.
Mr Manu Kochhar, Mentor, CII Uttarakhand Hospitality and Tourism Panel and Past Chairman, Uttarakhand State Council while giving presentation on Recommendation on Tourism &amp; Hospitality – Uttarakhand highlighted some of the key recommendations such as developing circuits in lesser-known destinations in the three regions Garhwal, Kumaon and Jaunsar to ease the load from over stressed areas. He further suggested new circuits Vishnu and Sikh Circuit to increase tourism in the State. He emphasized on Single Window &amp; Ease of Doing Business and said this is one of the most important areas which needs to be further strengthened.

Also, IIT Roorkee is the category winner for "Innovation Quotient" for its innovations in the field of Energy Storage Devices, Remediation, Technology, and other sectors in a virtual felicitation ceremony held today, 03 December, during CII Advanced Materials Summit 2022.

Dehradun (The Hawk): CII Uttarakhand State Council organised a virtual session on EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) Registration for plastic waste management at CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) Portal today. The objective of the session was to guide, sensitize and support industries in the State for registration and preparation of EPR Action plan as mandated by Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board.
Ms Sonia Garg, Chairperson, CII Uttarakhand apprised participants on the recent order issued by Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board regarding immediate cancellation of consent to operate for industries not registered on CPCB portal under Plastic Waste Management Act 2016 &amp; order passed by High Court of Uttarakhand. She apprised that going forward all industries must be compliant to run their businesses and it is important that industries start their process of registering at the CPCB portal.
Mr Kartik Singhal, Consultant &amp; other experts explained the step-by-step process of registering at the portal and gave a live demonstration to participating industries. Queries raised by industries regarding whether they are falling under the purview of order or not, in case of third-party packaging/labelling who will be responsible, clarity on producer/brand owner, registration of industry having plants at more that 1 state, liability of organisation using basic plastic packaging among others were well addressed.
The session was well attended by around 200 industries from across the state including all industrial clusters at Dehradun, Haridwar, Pantnagar, Sitarganj, Rudrapur &amp; Roorkee.

Innovation is the key to success and there are ample opportunities in the field of Ayurveda where young minds can come out with new products utilizing our States strength of rare herbs, said Mr Sudhir Chandra Nautiyal, Director Industries, Uttarakhand while addressing the students as Guest of Honour at the valedictory session. Mr Nautiyal further motivated students to take up entrepreneurship and invited them to be a part of Startup Uttarakhand culture.

Taking forward the agenda of education and skills development, CII with its member organisation Himalaya Wellness organised practical training on Quality Assurance &amp; Quality Control at Dehradun. 11 students of Microbiology &amp; Biochemistry Streams from Graphic Era University, AKTU Lucknow, CCS University Meerut, Meerut Institute of Technology, DAV College Muzzafarnagar were imparted training over a period of 6 weeks with an objective of enhancing their skills. Completion certificates were awarded to all the participants.

Dehradun (The Hawk): Contribution to GDP is from specific sectors and location centric, to bring all-inclusive growth, the state needs to focus on equal opportunities and provide avenues to key sectors like Tourism and Hospitality, IT, Start Ups, high yield agriculture to make economic growth more sustainable said Dr Sharad Singh Negi, Vice Chairman, Uttarakhand Rural Development and Migration Commission while addressing at the CII Uttarakhand Annual Session. He further said that industry can support hill economy in skilling, handholding and providing marketing linkages. He informed that 8-10% people are self-employed in the rural areas and small towns connected to main roads are doing well.
Dr Sanjeev Chopra, Former Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration during his address expressed that for double digit growth of the state our startups needs to grow with new innovative ideas. State needs to create an ecosystem for producing top quality produce which can compete internationally. He mentioned that high value Agri produce of the State is a very positive development. He opined that for any economy to be vibrant - Sarkar, Samaj and Bazar plays an important role and economy will be progressive, wherever all these elements are connected.
While delivering the opening remarks Ms Sonia Garg, Chairperson, CII Uttarakhand State Council &amp; CEO, Forace Industries Pvt Ltd shared that to realise the vision of doubling the Sate GDP in the next 5 years the state needs to focus on enhancing key growth drivers and aim for improvement to attain robust and inclusive growth in the State, providing opportunities to existing industries to go for expansion by reducing compliances and creating required infrastructure for MSMEs. She also stressed on setting up Special Economic Zone in the state for boosting exports.
Mr Bipen Gupta, Vice Chairman, CII Uttarakhand State Council &amp; Director, G B Springs said State today stands at an important juncture, where we need to re-visit our strategies for growth and employment generation for times to come. We need to leverage sectors where we have competitive advantages as shared by the eminent speakers such as Tourism, Education, Healthcare, agri, horticulture, MSME and IT.
The panel discussion was organized on the theme Uttarakhand 2.0: Enhancing Key Growth Drivers and the objective of the session was to discuss and deliberate on the key growth drivers such as Tourism, Horticulture, Infrastructure development, IT, employment generation, innovation and entrepreneurship to attain robust and inclusive growth in the State. The session was moderated by Mr Arun Kumar, Factory Head, Honeywell Electrical Devices &amp; Systems India Ltd, Selaqui. New Delhi (The Hawk): “It is time that India takes the lead in realization of “One Earth, One Health” vision with a holistic and integrative eco and nature friendly policy-making environment, and align it with our philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam for global health and wellbeing. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India has a strong political will to lead in innovative research and technology supported solutions which are commercially viable with universal acceptability”. This was stated by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health &amp; Family Welfare as he addressed the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit 2023, on the theme ‘One Health: Integrated, Collaborative and Multisectoral Approach to Optimal Health’, here today.
He added that “The One Earth, One Health vision can become a reality only with active global collaboration where countries don’t think of only themselves, but of collective global outcomes.” Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that “health sector cannot be limited to one country as the health and wellbeing of one country impacts the other. We live in an inter-dependent world, wherein not just countries but the health of human population is equally affected and influenced by the health of surrounding environment and animals.” The global pandemic has demonstrated that no country is immune from adverse developments in any country, and also that our actions impact the health and wellbeing of our eco-system. It is therefore our collective responsibility as a human race to not only protect ourselves but also ensure that our actions result in protecting the environment we co-exist in, he stressed. The vision of “One Earth, One Health” brings in sharp focus the importance of our actions and eco-friendly policies, he elaborated.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
Applauding India’s leading role in indigenous research and wealth of traditional therapies, Dr Mandaviya highlighted that each country can have its own model of ensuring “One Earth, One Health”. It is however important to learn from each others’ best practices to enrich our models and work in synergy with each other to ensure that our collective actions leave behind a healthier world than the one we inhabit, he stated. Further, the Health Minister added that “India’s model of Integrative Medicine is an example of this, where it synergizes the modern medicine with a focus on wellness incorporating the traditional principles of Ayurveda inherent in India.” Lauding the progress of initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat scheme and the success of Co-Win platform that is now shared as a public digital good, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that health is perceived as ‘seva’ i.e. service to others. The Health Minister also affirmed his confidence in the research institutions of the nation, and urged the participation and involvement of academia, private sector to contribute to research.
The panelists lauded the efforts and initiatives of the government to boost healthcare in the country by providing affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, UHC through the umbrella of Ayushman Bharat, and various initiatives such as the co-location of the nursing colleges with the medical colleges would further bolster the range and array of resources available such as bedside teaching opportunities, and providing a boost to the nursing community in India. The panelists praised the vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’ as a path-breaking one which combines the wisdom of knowledge and accountability, wherein each stakeholder in the ecosystem of R&amp;D and manufacturing adopts responsibility for their outcomes. They also applauded the confidence reposed by the Government in the country’s scientific wisdom and capabilities.

'One Earth, One Health' Vision Can Become Reality When Countries Don't Think Of Only Themselves: Health Minister

New Delhi / Dehradun (The Hawk): CII Northern Region, at its Annual Regional Meeting &amp; Conference today, announced that Mr Deepak Jain, Chairman &amp; Managing Director of Lumax Industries Ltd and Mr Madhav Singhania, Deputy Managing Director &amp; CEO, JK Cement Ltd have been elected as the Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively of CII Northern Region for 2023-24. The proficient incumbents were elected during the first meeting of the newly elected Regional Council members. Mr Jain will head CII Northern Region which comprises 7 States – Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and 3 Union Territories - Chandigarh, Jammu &amp; Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Elaborating on the priorities for 2023 – 24, Mr Jain said, “CII, through its programmes and interventions will aim to foster the digital transformation of businesses that impact social and economic development by adopting innovative and sustainable practices. For this, the strategy for the year would be to build domestic competitiveness through a range of measures along with focused policy advocacy while working with different countries and regions to facilitate Indian business engagement.”
Mr Jain listed 5 priority areas for CII Northern Region for 2023 – 24: Competitiveness, Sustainability &amp; Environment, Digital Transformation, Innovation, and Internationalisation.
A special session on ‘Driving India’s Growth with Robust &amp; Sustainable Infrastructure’ was also organised as part of the CII Northern Region Annual Meeting &amp; Conference where Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India was the Chief Guest. Speaking at the occasion, “The dream of the Prime Minister to make the Indian economy a 5 trillion-dollar economy and AatmaNirbhar Bharat is in the process and is our priority. For that, we seek cooperation and communication from the industry.”
He further urged the industry to focus on two important subjects, one circulation economy and the other green economy. “In addition to the already existing initiatives, I suggest the industry look at water conservation and green energy practices such as rainwater harvesting for ameliorating the lives of farmers,” he shared.
Mr Deepak Jain is the Chairman &amp; Managing Director of Lumax Industries Ltd, a flagship company of Lumax-DK Jain Group, a leading manufacturer of automotive components and systems in India, with market leaders in Lighting and Gear Shifter Systems. The Group comprises 15 companies with 34 manufacturing locations spread across 8 states, along with 3 government-recognized R&amp;D Centres and overseas Design Centres in Taiwan and the Czech Republic. Mr Jain is the Chairman, Regional Committee on Advanced Manufacturing, CII Northern Region; Past President, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) - (2019-2021); Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Supplier’s Association (TKSA); Executive Council Member of Maruti Suzuki Supplier Welfare Association (MSSWA), TATA Motors Suppliers Council, and Member of International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) Research Advisory Board (RAB).
Mr Madhav Singhania, Deputy Managing Director &amp; CEO, JK Cement Ltd, one of the leading Grey Cement producers in the country and the third largest white cement producer globally.
He joined JK Cement Ltd in early 2010 and has been instrumental in spearheading new capacity expansion projects. Having a keen interest in technology and automation, he has led new capacity expansion projects that have doubled the grey cement manufacturing capacity from 7.5 MTPA in 2010 to around 20 MTPA in 2022. His ambitious expansion plans have seen the Company's footprint expand across the Country. Mr Madhav Singhania has been very actively involved with various industrial bodies. He has held the position of the Chairman, CII Delhi; Chairman, Young Indians (Yi), Delhi Youth Wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII); and is currently serving as the Sherpa for Yi at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance. He has served on the Board of Governors for National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM) and as the President of the Rotary Club of Kanpur Gaurav. He has also represented India in the Australia-India Youth Dialogue between the two countries in 2018 and is currently on its steering committee.

Dehradun (The Hawk): Mr S K Pattnaik IFS, Member Secretary, Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board, Government of Uttarakhand while addressing CII members thanked the industry for coming forward and supporting pollution control board in getting themselves registered for EPR and apprised that 80% registrations have been completed so far. While deliberating on plastic waste management, he stressed that all the plastic waste generated by PIBOs or any industry should be disposed through plastic waste processors or cement coprocessors only, in case of violating this provision strict action will be taken, because plastic waste is the serious concern which is affecting society at large. Mr Bipen Gupta, Chairman, CII Uttarakhand State Council &amp; Director, G B Springs, highlighted few key points which included allowing use of existing CETP at IIE SIIDCUL, by neighbouring industries. For this, the industry should be allowed to transport the effluent by tankers to the CETP at IIE SIIDCUL &amp; instruction should be given to the JV partner to accept the effluent for treatment from industry outside SIIDCUL. Mr Pattnaik also addressed the issue of legacy waste disposal and apprised members that the timeline has been issued for the bioremediation and disposable of legacy waste by urban development department for which few DPR has been approved and few are under consideration from Ministry of Urban Development. He apprised that 34 landfilling sights have been identified across the states and work has already been started for which a conservative target has been set up till December 2023. While closing his address, he said that department is to support the industry for any query or suggestion industry can reach out to the department at any time. CII also recommended setting up of ETPs for a cluster of industries outside notified industrial areas since MSMEs do not have funds to invest in ETPs. Monthly user charges can be charged from industries by government /ETP operator based on usage of the facility, to extend CETPs in all the clusters among others. Mr Mannu Kochhar, Past Chairman, CII Uttarakhand emphasised on the waste oil collection issue for which industry has only one registered collection agency based out of Roorkee which charges high cost even for low volume and suggested if government can help in setting up of a local collection centre at affordable cost. The interaction was very much appreciated and was well attended by over 30 industries from Dehradun, Haridwar and Kumaon region.
