New Delhi: SpiceJet said it faced a ransomware attack on Tuesday night causing a delay in departure of its flights on Wednesday morning."Certain SpiceJet systems faced an attempted ransomware attack last night that impacted and slowed down morning flight departures today (Wednesday)," a SpiceJet spokesperson said.The airline's IT team has contained and rectified the situation and flights are operating normally now, the spokesperson said.—PTI

New Delhi: A SpiceJet flight heading towards Dubai from the national capital was diverted towards Karachi, Pakistan, on Tuesday due to some technical malfunctioning in the aircraft."The SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating flight SG-11 (Delhi-Dubai) was diverted to Karachi due to an indicator light malfunctioning," a senior airline official told IANS.He said that the aircraft landed safely in Karachi and passengers were safely disembarked."No emergency was declared and the aircraft made a normal landing," the official said.The official clarified that there was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft."Passengers have been served refreshments," he said. Meanwhile, a replacement aircraft is being sent to Karachi that will take the passengers to Dubai.Notably, this is the third time in recent days that SpiceJet aircraft had to either make an emergency landing or divert to some other location.On June 19, a Delhi-bound aircraft, with 185 passengers on board, was forced to make an emergency landing in Patna after one of the wings caught fire. On takeoff, during rotation, the cockpit crew suspected a bird hit on one of the engines.As a precautionary measure and as per SOP, the Captain shutdown the affected engine and decided to return to Patna.In the second incident on July 2, the crew of a Jabalpur-bound SpiceJet aircraft, while passing at 5,000 ft, noticed smoke in the cabin after which the pilots decided to return to Delhi.—IANS

New Delhi: Aviation regulator DGCA on Wednesday ordered SpiceJet airline to operate only 50 per cent of its flights for eight weeks. "In view of findings of various spot checks, inspections and the reply to the show cause notice submitted by SpiceJet, for continued sustenance of safe and reliable air transport service, the number of departures of SpiceJet are restricted to 50 per cent of the number of departures approved under Summer schedule 2022 for a period of eight weeks," said the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in an order. During these eight weeks, the airline would be subjected to "enhanced surveillance" by the DGCA. A SpiceJet spokesperson said: "We are in receipt of the DGCA order and will act as per directions of the regulator. Due to the current lean travel season, SpiceJet, like other airlines, had already rescheduled its flight operations. Hence, there will be absolutely no impact on our flight operations. We want to reassure our passengers and travel partners that our flights will operate as per schedule in the coming days and weeks. There will be no flight cancellation as a consequence of this order."The DGCA also said: "Any increase in the number of departures beyond 50 per cent would be subject to the airline demonstrating to the satisfaction of DGCA that it has sufficient technical support and financial resource to safely and efficiently undertake such enhanced capacity." The regulator also said that "it was deduced that SpiceJet failed to establish a safe, efficient and reliable air transport service" and a showcause notice was issued on July 5.It said that it has been observed that SpiceJet is taking measures to arrest the trend of incidents, however, it needs to sustain these efforts for a safe and reliable air transport service. In response, the SpiceJet spokesperson said: "DGCA's observation that SpiceJet is taking measures for arresting the trend of incidents is very encouraging and we will continue to work under the close guidance of the regulator."The order said that the reported incidents from April 1 to July 5 were reviewed and it was observed that there is poor internal safety oversight and inadequate maintenance actions which have resulted in degradation of the safety margins. Financial assessment carried out by the DGCA in September 2021 revealed that SpiceJet is operating on cash and carry and suppliers are not being paid on a regular basis leading to the shortrage of spares, said the aviation regulator.—IANS

New Delhi: Aviation regulator Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has received requests from the lessor for deregistration of three aircraft of budget carrier SpiceJet.Leasing firm Awas Ireland Limited filed the requests against three Boeing 737 aircraft on July 29.The planes- VT-SYW, VT-SYX and VT-SYY, are stationed at Varanasi and Amritsar.The deregistration requests of flights have been filed under Irrevocable Deregistration and Export Request Authorisations (IDERA) and sources said that it is usually filed if a lessor and airline fail to reach a payment negotiation.The deregistration process is generally allowed after the aviation regulator checks if the aircraft has any pending dues from tax authorities and airports.The government has taken measures to strengthen the ecosystem for aircraft leasing and financing in India. New Delhi:&nbsp;SpiceJet on Tuesday said it has entered into an agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and cleared all outstanding principal dues of the airport operator. "With this, SpiceJet will no longer remain on 'cash and carry' at AAI-run airports across the country and will revert to advance payment mechanism for daily flight operations," the airline's statement noted. The Centre-run AAI had in 2020 put SpiceJet on a 'cash and carry' basis as the carrier was unable to clear its previous dues. In the 'cash and carry' model, the airline has to make daily payments to the AAI for various charges -- navigation, landing, parking, and others -- to operate flights. SpiceJet said on Tuesday: "In another big boost for the airline, AAI will release SpiceJet's INR 50 crore bank guarantee following the airline clearing all its principal dues. This will result in additional liquidity for the airline." SpiceJet has been making losses for the last four years. It incurred net losses of Rs 316 crore, Rs 934 crore and Rs 998 crore in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21, respectively. In the April-December period of 2021, the airline posted a net loss of Rs 1,248 crore. The airline is yet to declare results for January-March period of 2022. Aviation regulator DGCA had on July 27 ordered SpiceJet to operate not more than 50 per cent of its flights, which were approved for summer schedule, for a period of eight weeks. On July 6, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had issued a show-cause notice to SpiceJet following at least eight incidents of technical malfunction in its aircraft since June 19.—PTI

New Delhi: Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has received requests to deregister two more B737 aircraft leased to the carrier SpiceJet . 
The requests for deregistration have been made by Irish lessor Horizon Aviation.
This is the third such instance in which the regulator received deregistration requests of aircrafts in the past few weeks leased to SpiceJet . DGCA
In the present case, the DGCA received the requests of deregistration of aircrafts on August 25 and both the planes are stationed at New Delhi.
The deregistration requests of flights has been filed under Irrevocable Deregistration and Export Request Authorisations (IDERA) and sources said that it is usually filed if a lessor and airline fail to reach a payment negotiation.
Earlier, the budget carrier SpiceJet had said that it plans to replace all its older Boeing aircraft with the new Max model in a phased manner and till the next calendar year, it will induct around 20 new Max planes into its fleet.
Deregistration process is generally allowed after the aviation regulator checks if the aircraft has any pending dues from tax authorities and airports.

New Delhi: Officials reported on Tuesday that police had detained a passenger accused of misbehaving with a female cabin crew member aboard a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Hyderabad.
They added that Sushant Srivastava, the airline's security officer, filed the complaint on the cabin crew member's behalf.
On Monday at 4:39 p.m., a PCR call was received after an allegation that a passenger on SpiceJet Flight-8133 from Delhi to Hyderabad had molested a cabin crew member. A top police officer has revealed that the call came from SpiceJet's security officer, Srivastava.—Inputs from Agencies

New Delhi: In a strategic move to bolster SpiceJet's financial position and spur growth, Mumbai-based businessman Harihara Mahapatra and his wife Preeti have announced a substantial investment of Rs 1,100 crore in the airline. The acquisition secures the couple a 19 per cent stake in SpiceJet, as revealed in a stock exchange filing by the airline.  The investment plan includes participation from Aries Opportunities Fund, holding three per cent, and Elara Capital, securing an eight per cent stake through the conversion of warrants.  Earlier, the Board of Directors of SpiceJet unanimously approved the infusion of fresh capital exceeding Rs 2,250 crore.  This move involves issuing equity shares to financial institutions, foreign institutional investors (FII’s), high net worth individuals (HNI’s), and private investors.  An official from SpiceJet said, "The Board's unanimous decision reflects our commitment to strengthening the airline's financial foundation and propelling its growth trajectory. The issuance of equity shares and warrants under private placement is subject to necessary approvals from shareholders and regulatory bodies."  The proposed preferential issues encompass a diverse group of investors, including Elara India Opportunities Fund, Aries Opportunities Fund, Mahapatra Universal Limited, Nexus Global Fund, Prabhudas Lilladher, Resonance Opportunities Fund, among others, aiming to raise funds aggregating over Rs 2,250 Crore.  The Board of Directors, in a meeting held on December 12 gave the green light for issuing up to 31,83,00,000 equity shares of face value Rs10 each ('Tranche I Issue') and up to 13,00,00,000 warrants, convertible to equity shares ('Tranche II Issue'), on a preferential basis.  The funds from the Tranche I and Tranche II issues, totaling Rs 15,91,50,00,000 and Rs 6,50,00,00,000, respectively, are earmarked for addressing statutory obligations, settling past dues with creditors, uplifting and ungrounding the fleet, acquiring new aircraft, meeting ATF expenses, employee-related expenses, and general corporate purposes.  Approximately 25 per cent of the funds from each preferential issue will be allocated to these purposes.  If approved by shareholders, the investment will result in a reduction of airline promoter Ajay Singh's current shareholding from 56.49 per cent to at least 38.55 per cent. Presently, 37.9 per cent of Singh's stake is pledged with various banks, marking a significant development in SpiceJet's ownership structure.  Meanwhile, the stock exchange filing announced the Annual general meeting of the members on December 30.  “This is to inform you that the 39th Annual General Meeting of the members of SpiceJet Limited will be held on Wednesday, the 10th day of January, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. through video conference and other audio visual means to transact business as per attached Notice of Annual General Meeting,” the airline said in the notice.

Mumbai biz couple invests Rs 1,100 cr in SpiceJet for 19% stake

New Delhi : A female passenger aboard a Bagdogra-bound SpiceJet flight has raised concerns about inappropriate behavior exhibited by her co-passenger, as stated by an airline spokesperson on Sunday.  The spokesperson for the carrier mentioned that during the flight SG 592 from Kolkata to Bagdogra on January 31, an incident occurred involving a female passenger who reported inappropriate conduct by her co-passenger. Responding promptly, the cabin crew intervened to address the situation, and the male passenger was subsequently relocated to another seat.  However, the accused co-passenger refuted any wrongdoing, denying the allegations brought forth against him.  The airline further informed that upon arrival at Bagdogra airport, both passengers were accompanied by SpiceJet security staff to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials in the arrival area. The female passenger expressed her desire for action against the co-passenger. In response, the accused co-passenger apologized in the presence of CISF staff. The female passenger departed the airport without filing a formal complaint, which impeded further investigation by SpiceJet.  The spokesperson emphasized that throughout the incident, the cabin crew actively supported the female passenger, ensuring her comfort and safety during the flight.  Further details on the matter are anticipated.
