Expressway Industrial Authority spokesperson Durgesh Upadhyay. The potholes were repaired instantly and the road opened to traffic, he added.The authority deployed a team with bulldozers and necessary equipment to repair the stretch.When contacted by PTI, District Magistrate Chandani Singh did not respond to calls.The incident drew criticism, with BJP MP Varun Gandhi questioning the quality of the construction work and seeking action against officials and the companies concerned.The incident also gave ammunition to the opposition Samajwadi Party and the Congress to attack the government.Varun Gandhi in a Hindi tweet said, "If the expressway built at a cost of ?15,000 crore cannot withstand even five days of rain, then serious questions rise on its quality. The head of the project, the engineer concerned and responsible companies should be summoned and action be taken against them," he added.Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in a Hindi tweet said, "This is a sample of the quality of the BJP's half-finished development. The Bundelkhand expressway was inaugurated by big people and within a week huge pits of corruption came out.""The caving-in of the Bundelkhand expressway just days after its inauguration proves corruption of the double engine BJP government in the construction of the road. Congress also targeted the BJP government on Twitter, saying the government had promised pothole-free roads. The development has taken a hit after four days of inauguration of the Bundelkhand expressway, it said. On the day of inauguration of the Bundelkhand expressway, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had attacked the Yogi Adityanath government alleging corruption in the "half-finished" project. Potholes On UP Expressway Week After Opening By PM

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday directed the officials to provide the status of pothole-free roads in the state within a week.
He gave the directions in a meeting held at the secretariat.
According to the Chief Minister's Office, Dhami said that the public have the right to smooth and safe travel, adding that taking care of the people's facilities is the state government's biggest priority.
"How much work has been done so far by the departments concerned to make the roads of the state pothole free..?? How many roads were repaired? How much work is left? Immediately give all the information to the Chief Minister within 1 week," Dhami said.
He gave strict instructions that the work of repair/maintenance and pothole clearance of all the roads should be completed by the departments concerned at the earliest in any situation. The Chief Minister said that special attention should be paid to quality in the repairing of roads and potholes. There should be no complaint of any kind in road repair works.
Dhami also took the updated information about the development works conducted in Haridwar Vishisht Corridor, Pithoragarh Airport, Manaskhand Corridor, Ramnagar - Ranikhet road, Maa Purnagiri Dham from the officials.
Chief Minister Dhami directed to implement the projects of development of the Manas Kanth Corridor and Haridwar Vishisht Corridor at the earliest.
"It was informed in the meeting that under Manas Kand Corridor, 29 temples, including Golju Devta, Patal Bhubaneshwar, Kot Bhramari, and Kainchi Dham of Kumaon, have been identified. Road connectivity, road connectivity and ropeway system are being strengthened for tourists and pilgrims under the Manaskhand corridor," the CMO said.
The Chief Minister also directed to expedite the development works conducted in Maa Purnagiri Dham. He said that keeping in mind the public sentiments, it is necessary to strengthen all the essential facilities for the devotees here at the earliest. —ANI

Roads can become safer and more durable with improved road construction, which can also lower maintenance costs and pothole counts.
Months of persistent rain and flooding have brought home how crucial good road building is since it prevents potholes and road sinking. Tyre blowouts and structural damage to automobiles and trucks are both brought on by this, and the likelihood of fatal accidents also rises.
The cutting-edge machine learning method was created by a research team from the University of Technology Sydney and uses data from a sensor mounted to a construction roller. Together with Professor Hadi Kahbbaz, Dr. Di Wu, and Ph.D. student Zhengheng Xu, Associate Professor Behzad Fatahi, head of geotechnical and transport engineering, oversaw the project. "We have developed an advanced computer model that incorporates machine learning and big data from construction sites to predict the stiffness of compacted soil with a high degree of accuracy in a fraction of a second, so roller operators can make adjustments," said Associate Professor Fatahi.
Roads are made up of three or more layers, which are rolled and compacted. The subgrade layer is usually soil, followed by natural materials such as crushed rock, and then asphalt or concrete on top. The variable nature of soil and moisture conditions can result in under or over-compacted material.
"Like Goldilocks, the compaction needs to be 'just right' to provide the correct structural integrity and strength. Over-compaction can break down the material and change its composition, and under-compaction can lead to uneven settlement," said Associate Professor Fatahi.
"A well-compacted multi-layer road base provides a stable foundation and increases the capacity of a road to bear heavy loads. Trucks can weigh up to 40 tonnes, so a poor quality base can quickly lead to cracks and weak spots in the asphalt surface."
According to research that was just published in the peer-reviewed journal Engineering Structures, the use of this technology could aid in the construction of more resilient roadways that can endure extreme weather. The team is currently looking to test the new technology on-site for different ground and roller conditions for road, railway, and dam construction projects. Scientists Come Up With New Technology To Reduce Potholes

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched an application created aiming to make the roads free of potholes in the state, said an official statement on Thursday.
The application named "Patch Reporting App" was developed by the Public Works Department.
According to the statement, the application was made by the Public Works Department in an attempt to make the roads pothole free. It added that this application allowed any person with the Patch Reporting application could submit a detailed complaint by capturing pictures of potholes on the nearby roads.
"Through this application, any person can register his complaint with complete information by taking photographs of potholes found on the roads around him. Information about the action taken on the complaint lodged through the app will also be made available to the complainant along with pictures," it said.
CM Dhami also said that the "Patch Reporting App" would be beneficial in making the roads of the state pothole-free.
Additionally, he gave the Public Works Department's employees the directive that the complaint about potholes on the road sent through the application was to be remedied within a week and that the authorities' accountability for doing so needed to be established.
"CM Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed the officials of the Public Works Department that the complaint made by the complainant regarding potholes on the road through the app should be resolved within a week, for which the responsibility of the officials should also be fixed," said the statement.
The Uttarakhand chief minister added that the high officials of the Public Works Department should also monitor the working of the application regularly.
"Strict instructions were given by CM Dhami to the officers of the Public Works Department to make the roads of the state completely pothole-free," the statement said.
The statement said that through the help of the "Patch Reporting App," the location and information about the data pit spot would be automatically presented by latitude and longitude.
"On the basis of the information received from the app, the Public Works Department will take quick action and the details of the work along with pictures will be received by the concerned complainant and the higher officer," it said. —ANI

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, during the meeting of the Public Works Department at the Secretariat on Tuesday, instructed the officials to make the roads completely pothole-free by November 30. As per the state government, the Chief Minister instructed the Secretary, Public Works Department and other circle officers to conduct on-site inspections of the roads. Dhami directed that in case the roads are not pothole-free within the prescribed time period and in case of any kind of negligence towards the works, on-the-spot suspension action should be taken against the concerned officers. The Chief Minister said that he could do a surprise inspection of road construction works and patchwork-related works at any time. The Chief Minister directed the officials to work on smart city works and internal road works on war footing. Road construction work in the city should be done rapidly during nighttime. He said that any kind of negligence in the quality of construction works will not be forgivable. The Chief Minister directed that the Secretary, the Public Works Department, should be made the nodal officer to monitor the quality of work on all the roads being built. The Chief Minister said that it should be ensured that wherever construction work is in progress, barricading is done properly and special care should be taken to ensure that people do not have to face unnecessary problems while commuting. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to make good arrangements for dividers, reflectors and signage lighting on the roads. The Chief Minister said that in view of two big events being held in Dehradun, the Global Investors Summit and 6th International Congress on Disaster Management, all preparations should be completed on time. The Chief Minister instructed officials of the Public Works Department that white topping technology should be used in areas where water flow is high. Whatever plans are being made related to roads, they should be made keeping in mind the circumstances of the next 50 years. He instructed the officials to ensure that there were no electrical wires dangling on the roads. The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is an important state from the point of view of tourism and pilgrimage. The number of tourists and devotees in the state is increasing rapidly every year. For this, it is very important to have strong road connectivity. He said that we will have to move fast to expand roads and promote power generation. During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to provide all possible help to the agencies engaged in relief and rescue operations of the workers trapped in the tunnel under construction in Silkyara, Uttarkashi. Constant coordination should be established with the families of the workers and all possible assistance should be provided to them. The Chief Minister also instructed the officers to continuously coordinate with the district administration in Uttarkashi and provide immediate assistance in case of any need. CM Dhami Instructs Officials To Make Roads Completely Pothole-Free By November End

Lucknow: As part of its Pothole Free campaign, the government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has rid over 77,000 roads of the state of potholes in 2023-2024. Along with fixing potholes, the campaign also involves renovating/restoring the roads. It is worth mentioning that the Chief Minister had earlier directed officials of 10 departments to coordinate in order to run a special campaign to fix roads damaged by rain and other reasons, free them of potholes as well as renovate/restore them wherever needed. The state government has set a target of making more than 83,000 roads pothole-free in the year 2023-24. This includes making 49,557 roads pothole-free and renovating/restoring 33,727 roads. As per available records, by November 17, the government had successfully repaired a total of 77,489 roads, with 48,979 roads made pothole-free and 28,510 roads renovated/restored. The progress in pothole repair compared to the target has been 98.8 per cent, while the progress in renovation/restoration work has been 84.5 per cent. At the departmental level, the Public Works Department (PWD) has repaired the highest number of roads, totalling around 69,983. Among them, approximately 44,045 roads (99.2 per cent of the target) were repaired and rendered pothole-free while about 25,983 roads (90.9 per cent of the target) underwent renovation/restoration. Similarly, a total of 1,001 National Highways were repaired, with 827 roads (92.4 per cent of the target) made pothole-free and 185 roads (97.4 per cent of the target) renovated/restored successfully. The Mandi Parishad has repaired a total of 719 roads, including 630 made pothole-free and 89 renovated/restored. Similarly, the Panchayati Raj Department has worked on 774 roads, ridding 388 of potholes and renovating/restoring 386. Additionally, the Irrigation Department worked on 448 roads, making 288 roads pothole-free and renovating/restoring 160 roads whereas the Rural Development Department made all 336 roads pothole-free. The Urban Development Department worked on 3,729 roads, making 2,322 pothole-free and renovating/restoring 1,407 while the Housing and Urban Planning Department repaired 43 roads, ridding 15 of potholes as well as renovating/restoring 28. The Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department worked on a total of 455 roads, making 137 pothole-free and renovating/restoring 318. —ANI
