He mentioned that Science &amp; Technology has been one of the strategic pillars of bilateral partnership and suggested to explore possibilities of bilateral scientific cooperation in emerging areas of Weather and Climate Research, specifically, on trends of regional climate extremes and variability of vulnerable areas including tropics and high-latitudes.Dr Jitendra Singh conveyed to his German counterpart that Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad provides early warning information for Tsunami related hazards to the Indian Ocean rim countries. He added that India has been recognized as one of the Tsunami Service Providers (TSP) under United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC) and invited Germany to make utilization of this opportunity.Dr Jitendra Singh noted with satisfaction that India is working towards Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Assessment (PTHA) in the Makran region through UNESCO-IOC and funded by UNESCAP, where German experts and institutions are part of this initiative.For strengthening mutual collaboration between MoES institutions and German scientific/ research agencies, Dr Jitendra Singh he proposed to develop bilateral cooperation in areas of-Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Assessments, Early detection of tsunamis including ‘atypical tsunami’ generated by the under-sea landslides triggered by earthquakes, Geodynamic modelling of Earth’s sub-surface for sub-marine landslides and Crustal deformation monitoring using Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) data, Tectonic settings of subduction zones in the Indian Ocean (more emphasis on Makran Subduction Zone) and integrating Machine Learning methods, Capacity building activities to strengthen pre-disaster preparedness and risk reduction programmes such as Tsunami Ready, Cooperation in the area of long term Arctic (Polar) observations &amp; studies and Cooperation in the field of Gas Hydrates and underwater drills.For bilateral cooperation in Ocean Exploration, Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted that the Blue Economy is an important dimension of Vision New India and proposed joint collaboration in areas like Coastal Marine Spatial Planning and Tourism, Marine fisheries, aquaculture, and fish processing, Coastal and deep-sea mining and offshore energy.Ms. Steffi Lemke, German Environment Minister reciprocated the proposal and briefed on German advancement in these areas and agreed to work out new collaboration.

Harnessing Green Hydrogen: Opportunities for Deep Decarbonisation in India provides apathway to accelerate the emergence of a green hydrogen economy, which is critical for India to achieve its net-zero ambitions by 2070.The report,co-authored by NITI Aayog and RMI,underscores that green hydrogen—produced by renewable energy through electrolysis of water—will be crucial for achieving decarbonisation of harder-to-abate sectors such as, fertilisers, refining, methanol, maritime shipping, iron &amp; steel and transport. Gautambuddh Nagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Gautambuddh Nagar Mahesh Sharma on Monday asserted that the Modi-Yogi government has a zero-tolerance policy on violence or aggression against women.Sharma's statement comes a day after authorities initiated action against a person, Shrikant Tyagi, who was seen misbehaving and threatening a woman inside a residential complex in Noida in a video clip that went viral.Sharma also claimed that Tyagi may have got pictures clicked with some leaders but he (Sharma) had never seen him at any party platform.Speaking to ANI, Sharma said, "Modi-Yogi govt has a zero-tolerance policy for assault against women... after taking action under Gangster Act, a cash price of Rs 25,000 was announced for those who help with his arrest, 6 police officials suspended." Sharma said teams had been deployed to nab Tyagi and searches were underway across the country. "His (Shrikant Tyagi) arrest is to be made soon...I have never seen him on any platform/program of our party. These days people get photos clicked by any means, but that doesn't indicate his link with any party," he added.Meanwhile, Shrikant Tyagi's lawyer Sushil Bhati said, "We have filed a surrender application in which a report will be sought from the concerned police station and after the submission of the report, we will present (Shrikant Tyagi) before the court."Earlier on Monday, bulldozers were seen arriving inside Noida's Grand Omaxe Society on Monday morning as part of an encroachment drive against a structure linked to Tyagi.The Noida administration began the demolition of illegal construction at the Sector 93 residence of Tyagi, who was earlseen in a viral video abusing and pushing a woman inside the society complex.The demolition exercise comes a day after an FIR was lodged against Tyagi after a group of his supporters entered the society on Sunday and started shouting slogans and creating a ruckus in the society. The Noida Police has invoked the Gangster Act against Tyagi who has been on the run.The residents of the society have welcomed this step by the administration. "We are very happy now that this action is being taken because we all were fed up with Tyagi's behaviour. He used to threaten us and behave very inappropriately," said a resident.People of the Grand Omaxe Society even started distributing sweets after the demolition."He is facing whatever he has done to society over the last two years. We are very happy to see this step by the administration," said another resident. Deputy Commissioner of Police of Central Noida, Rajesh S said that six persons who had entered the society on Sunday and created a ruckus have been detained. "Seven people who entered the Grand Omaxe Society have been arrested and are being interrogated. It was found that there was negligence from SHO Phase 2, Central Noida Sujeet Upadhyay, who has been suspended, further investigation is underway," said Alok Singh, Noida Police Commissioner"We have provided security to this family and the license of the security in the society will also be cancelled soon. We are taking action against Shrikant Tyagi under the Gangster Act and all his illegal property will be identified," the Noida Police Commissioner had said. Chennai (The Hawk): Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Carbon Zero Challenge’s (CZC) next edition is focusing on ‘Resource Depletion and Pollution,’ which has been accelerated by the crises of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.
CZC 2022, an all-India eco-innovation and entrepreneurship competition, aims to accelerate lab-to-market transition of eco-innovations in India by funding innovations from proof-of-concept, lab-scale solutions to working prototypes or pilots.
Shortlisted teams will get funding and mentorship support to establish start-ups and take their idea to the market through commercialization. In addition, CZC 2022 winners will get Rs. 10 lakh as start-up seed grant and continued support from IIT Madras such as access to IITM incubation resources and Angel and VC funding.
Asia will have more than 1 billion vehicles by 2035 with as much as 80 per cent of air pollution in Asia’s cities being attributable to transport sector, according to reports by Asian Development Bank (ADB). Environmental degradation was costing India around US$ 80 billion annually, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, launched the third edition of Carbon Zero Challenge (CZC) today (24th August 22) at an event on campus in the presence of CZC Principal Coordinator, Prof. Indumathi M. Nambi and other stakeholders.

Addressing the launch event, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “Based on experiences gained from previous editions of CZCs and other research initiatives, IIT Madras is going to establish a ‘School of Sustainability’ that will work towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). CZC 2022 is going to give us a feel of challenges and technology needs in the field so that our Research, Course Curriculum and other activities are targeted towards solving issues in meeting SDGs and the overall direction of this upcoming School of Sustainability.”
Thanking Thales and other supporters of CZC 2022, Prof. V. Kamakoti added, “Seed funding is important to convert an idea into a working prototype and support teams through preincubation and incubation. HomoSEP, which was supported during the earlier editions of CZC, has converted into a product and the third device has been given recently to a family member of a person who was engaged in manual scavenging.”
Further, Prof. V. Kamakoti said, “IIT Madras will open up its patenting mechanism to the participants of this contest to get their innovations patented. The Institute also has a strong incubation ecosystem that can help start-ups mature and convert their ideas into a viable business.”
The Theme for CZC 2022 is CZC for ‘CRC’ (or) ‘Circularity in Resources Conservation.’ The idea is to highlight the need to balance demand and earth’s supply through resource conservation, rethinking design and materials to enable reduction, recycling, recovery and reuse of resources. The industry and public service systems need non-polluting technology to achieve this and low carbon, land footprint.
Highlighting the key focus areas of CZC 2022, its Principal Coordinator, Prof. Indumathi M. Nambi, Faculty, Department of Civil Engineering Department, IIT Madras, said, “CZC 2022 would focus on fostering innovative solutions incorporating circularity and sustainability for managing and conserving the following resources - Air, Water, Soil, Materials, and Energy. The competition will focus its target applicant pool on teams that have already demonstrated and validated lab-scale proof of concept, with a clear technological advancement.”
Further, Prof. Indumathi M. Nambi said, “The focus will be on technologies that aid in recovery of resources and pollution mitigation that are not receiving sufficient attention from the investment community. The proposed solutions by teams participating in this competition should have low carbon, water and eco footprint and have a large societal impact.”
The Key Aspects of Carbon Zero Challenge 2022 include:
Ø Wider Range of Solutions: Solutions to sustainability challenges can be deep technology, a new business model, a new app-based inventory, IT /IOT/AI and data analysis, a new policy intervention, or a combination of the four.
Ø Faculty-led/Research scientist-led teams: Faculty initiation and involvement are key to sustaining the momentum and continuing the journey to higher TRLs and Incubating Start-ups.
Ø Focus on Commercialisation of research: CZC will invest in developing the “go-to-market capabilities” of the selected teams and expect the teams to develop their alignment and relevance to the marketplace.
The competition is expecting a good mix of applications from academic/ research labs and early-stage start-ups. Around 100 teams are expected to be shortlisted by October 2022, of which 25 teams will be given prototype funding up to Rs 5 lakh per team.
The teams will also be trained to sharpen their market orientation and entrepreneurial quotient and develop the sustainability report for their product to market it as a clean-tech company. The teams will be connected to experts in industry and academia to hone their technical and business skills.

IIT Madras Carbon Zero Challenge 2022 Launched With Focus On Sustainability Innovations & Eco-Ventures 

New Delhi (The Hawk): A three-day international conference ANGAN 2022 (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat), second edition, titled “Making the Zero-Carbon Transition in Buildings” began on 14th September, 2022. Shri Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power inaugurated the conference. Shri Ajay Tiwary, Additional Secretary Ministry of Power also attended the event today. ANGAN 2.0, which is being organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, in collaboration with Swiss Agency for Development &amp; Cooperation (SDC) under the Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP).
Around 75 eminent speakers, including Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, International Solar Alliance, Dr Brian Motherway, Head of Energy Efficiency, International Energy Agency, Dr Richard de Dear, Professor at The University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning, representing more than 15 countries and international organisations, have gathered to debate and discuss issues related to building energy efficiency and reducing carbon emission from buildings in 8 plenary and 8 thematic sessions.
The conference was graced by dignitaries of international organizations. Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) is a collaborative project between the Government of India and the Government of Switzerland. Over this period, BEEP has provided technical support to BEE in the formulation of Eco-Niwas Samhita (energy conservation building code for residential buildings), design of around 50 buildings and trained more than 5000 building sector professionals.

A three-day international conference ANGAN 2022 (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat), second edition, titled “Making the Zero-Carbon Transition in Buildings” began on 14th September, 2022.  Shri Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power inaugurated the conference. Shri Ajay Tiwary, Additional Secretary Ministry of Power also attended the event today. New Delhi (The Hawk): On Friday, students at Delhi University's Faculty of Law protested what they called a "effort" to fail them in exams by giving them a score of 0 out of 100.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad was responsible for organising the demonstration (ABVP). Outside the Faculty of Law, a huge number of students were demonstrating.
However, students claim that the Faculty of Law acknowledged that "there have been some failures" and promised to take corrective action.
The ABVP stated that several students were given a zero or marked "absent" in the most recent reported results.
Students have claimed they were informed that an updated results announcement was forthcoming.

New Delhi: Google has warned that a commercial surveillance vendor was exploiting three zero-day security vulnerabilities in new Samsung smartphones that could have been exploited to steal users' data.
All three vulnerabilities were in the manufacturer's custom components rather than in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) platform or the Linux kernel.
'It's also interesting to note that 2 out of the 3 vulnerabilities were logic and design vulnerabilities rather than memory safety,' said Maddie Stone, Project Zero.
'While we understand that Samsung has yet to annotate any vulnerabilities as in-the-wild, going forward, Samsung has committed to publicly sharing when vulnerabilities may be under limited, targeted exploitation, as part of their release notes,' Stone added in a blog post.
'We hope that, like Samsung, others will join their industry peers in disclosing when there is evidence to suggest that a vulnerability is being exploited in-the-wild in one of their products'.
The Google Threat Analysis Group (TAG) obtained a partial exploit chain for Samsung devices that it believes belonged to a commercial surveillance vendor.
'All 3 vulnerabilities are within Samsung custom components, including a vulnerability in a Java component,' said the team.
The exploit sample targeted Samsung phones running kernel 4.14.113 with the Exynos SOC.
'Samsung phones run one of two types of SOCs depending on where they're sold. For example the Samsung phones sold in the United States, China, and a few other countries use a Qualcomm SOC and phones sold in most other places (example Europe and Africa) run an Exynos SOC,' said the Google team.
Examples of Samsung phones that were running kernel 4.14.113 in late 2020 (when this sample was found) include the S10, A50, and A51 smartphones, the team added.
'The analysis of this exploit chain has provided us with new and important insights into how attackers are targeting Android devices. It highlights a need for more research into manufacturer specific components,' said Google.&nbsp;

Lucknow (The Hawk): According to the state health department, Uttar Pradesh is steadily moving closer to being proclaimed a Covid-free state as 49 districts, including Lucknow, have already achieved the "zero Covid" designation while the remaining 26 have 103 current cases.
There are currently 103 active Covid cases throughout the following districts: Rae Bareli, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Kushinagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Amroha, Etah, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Kannauj, Sambhal, Siddharth Nagar, Sitapur, Amethi, Bulandshahr, Fate
The State Surveillance Officer (SSO), Dr. Vikasendu Agrawal, stated: "All of these districts have a single digit number of Covid instances, while the remaining 49 do not."
Health department authorities in Lucknow stated that "despite no Covid cases, the routine remains the same and tests are being undertaken for symptomatic patients arriving at the hospital."
A district reaches the "zero Covid" status when there haven't been any new daily increases in infections for three days in a row.
A district, however, loses this status if there is even one new instance.
The surveillance unit will keep up its efforts and ensure contact tracing for any newly reported Covid cases.
As Covid has not yet been eradicated, the methodology for hospitals to screen and test suspected cases is unchanged, according to Nishant Nirvan, district surveillance officer for the Lucknow health department.
Vaccination rates, in addition to the Covid protocol, which calls for the use of masks and social seclusion by residents, have decreased, according to health experts.
"In Uttar Pradesh, a safety barrier against the Covid infection was constructed that aided in preventing the spread of infection," said a senior health official. "100% eligible people (according to population and age data) got a dose of Covid vaccine."
39,04,93,214 doses of the Covid vaccination have so far been given out in Uttar Pradesh, including 17,69,50,222 first doses and 16,87,88,334 second doses.
Over 95,16,245 lakh doses of the Covid vaccine, including 45,68,563 first doses and 40,20,197 second doses, have been given in Lucknow.
Every day, the state conducts more than 25,000 tests.

Lucknow: As part of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's zero-tolerance policy against crime, the Uttar Pradesh government has awarded legal punishment to around 3,0000 criminals in the last three years.
According to the latest statistics of the Directorate of Prosecution, the highest number of 10,520 criminals were punished by the court under the Arms Act from 2020 to 2022.
Besides, 4,078 criminals were given punishment under the Pocso Act, 1,218 for involvement in rape cases, 8,646 in crime against women and children, 2,387 in murders, 1,152 in dowry deaths, 1,141 in robberies and 279 in cow slaughter cases.
It is noteworthy that on the one hand, the UP Police have killed 184 miscreants in encounters so far, on the other criminals and gangsters are being punished also through effective lobbying by the police in the court.
Prosecution Directorate's Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ashutosh Pandey said that in the last three years, effective lobbying in the court and 100 per cent testimony of witnesses has ensured the punishment of the criminals. Against punishments given to 535 criminals in the year 2020, 2,313 criminals were penalized in 2022, registering an increase of 332 per cent. Similarly, in the cases of rape, 671 criminals were punished in 2022 against 177 in 2020, registering an increase of 280 per cent. Similarly, in the year 2020, in the cases of crime against women and children, 1,048 criminals were punished; in 2022, 5351 criminals were punished, recording an increase of 411 per cent. In murder cases, 420 criminals were awarded punishment in the year 2020 while 1180 criminals were punished in 2022, registering an increase of 181 per cent.
The Directorate of Prosecution awarded punishment to 182 criminals in 2020 and 572 in 2022 in dowry death cases. Similarly, in the year 2022, 745 criminals were penalized in 2022 against 177 in 2020 in robbery cases, registering an increase of 321 per cent. In cow slaughter cases, 200 criminals were penalized in 2022 against 29 in 2020. However, in the last three years, a maximum number of punishments was given in Arms Act cases. A total of 6,373 criminals were punished under Arms Act in 2022 against 1960 in 2020 the year 2022, 6,373 criminals were punished under the Arms Act registering an increase of 225 per cent, said the UP government statement.&nbsp;&nbsp;

New Delhi: Following a rape complaint from a minor girl on Sunday, the Delhi Police stated that they had filed a "Zero FIR".
According to a senior police official, the victim presently lives in Roop Nagar, North Delhi, but is originally from Bihar, where the crime was committed.
"The complainant stated that her father and mother are working as house helps and before Holi they went to their home in Bihar' Madhubani, where one of her friends' brother was getting married.
"She met a person who made physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. Later she along with her family came to Delhi.
"On June 29, she fell sick and on checking she found that she was pregnant. Therefore, a report was filed, the police added.

London: Dozens of world cities can reach net zero carbon emissions over the next 10 years by incorporating urban parks, greenspace and trees into their infrastructure, according to a new study. Published in the journal, Nature Climate Change, the analysis shows the ways cities can orchestrate a wide range of green solutions like parks, streetscaping and roof gardens to not only capture carbon emissions, but help reduce them. The study was undertaken by researchers from Sweden, the US and China. It recommends the most effective approaches for natural carbon sequestration in 54 cities in the European Union. And it shows how blending these steps with other climate actions can enable cities to reach net-zero carbon and actually reduce emissions by an average of 17.4 percent. Zahra Kalantari, an associate professor in Water and Environmental Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, said the researchers focused on the indirect ways that so-called “nature-based solutions” can contribute to carbon neutrality. “Nature-based solutions not only offset a proportion of a city’s emissions, but can contribute to reduction in emissions and resource consumption too,” Kalantari said. The results are based on integrating data from previous studies on the effects of nature-based solutions. These include urban farming, permeable pavements which enable rainwater absorption into the ground, narrower roads with more greenery and trees, wildlife habitat preservation, and creating more agreeable environments for walking and bicycling. For example, urban parks, greenspace and trees promote more walking, bicycling and other environmentally positive habits that replace automobile driving. Combined with other solutions like green infrastructure, these measures can further improve urban microclimates by absorbing heat and cold, and as a result reduce energy use in buildings. It also provides guidance on which measures should be prioritised and where to locate them for the best effect, Kalantari said. For example, in Berlin the study recommends prioritising green buildings and urban green spaces, which could result in an emissions reduction rate of 6 per cent for residences, 13 per cent in industry and 14 per cent in transportation. “There are many studies that examine the effects of individual nature-based solutions, but this merges all of them and analyses the potential systemic effect,” Kalantari said. “That’s new.” —IANS

Lucknow: In a major development, Uttar Pradesh Special Director General of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar on Thursday said that encounters have never been the policy of the state government.
"Whenever criminals become emboldened and try to escape by attacking the police during or after arrest, they have to be controlled by using necessary force," said Kumar in an informal chat with reporters.
The statement assumes significance since the Yogi government has been known for its encounter policy, popularly known as 'thoko policy'.
Citing that some recent incidents took place in which criminals molested daughters and women, and when the police arrested them, they also tried to run away and snatch the weapons of the police, the special DG said that force had to be used in those cases.
"Safety of women and children is one of the top priorities of the government, and those messing with them will not be tolerated," he said.
He said that since 2017, the policy of zero tolerance against crime and criminals has been adopted in the state.
"In the cases where laxity of the cops was found, they have also faced action," he stated.
The officer added that all steps are being taken up by the state government to undertake preventive measures for controlling crime, one of which includes 'Operation Drishti', wherein CCTVs are being installed in the districts for prevention of crime.

Lucknow: Ahead of Shardiya Navratri, in a step towards women empowerment, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed all police senior officials that a woman police officer should also be given charge of an additional police station. Chief Minister Yogi emphasized the need to assign a dedicated team of skilled and diligent police personnel to support these women SHOs. All police superintendents and commissioners are expected to take prompt action to ensure compliance with this order. The Chief Minister gave these instructions on Monday during one of his unprecedented initiatives, where, for the first time in the state, the Chief Minister simultaneously communicated with all the SHOs, circle officers, police captains, police commissioners, IG Range and ADG Zone. While communicating from the newly inaugurated CM Dashboard office located at Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan building, the Chief Minister directed the police to take strict action against crime and criminals with a policy of zero tolerance. He said that “No matter how big the criminal is; strictest action should be taken against him as per the rules.” The Chief Minister said “Public interest is the topmost priority of the government. Negligence with this cannot be accepted. The increase in criminal incidents and the delay in their charge sheet and disposal show the negligence of the concerned police station, circle, and police superintendent. Every police station, circle, district, range, and zone is being directly monitored at the government level. If any negligence/irregularity is confirmed, then not only will he be removed from the post, but he will also be given compulsory retirement.” “No incident should be considered insignificant, as there is something to be learned from every situation. New Delhi [India]: Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Friday said the government has “zero tolerance” for corruption and has initiated an inquiry into the claim by Tamil actor Vishal that he paid Rs 6.5 lakh bribe to obtain censor certification of the Hindi version of his film ‘Mark Antony’.  On Thursday the actor took to social media application X to allege that officials from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Mumbai office had demanded Rs 6.5 lakh in exchange for the screening and granting of a U/A certificate for his film.
“The issue of corruption in CBFC brought forth by actor @VishalKOfficial is extremely unfortunate. The Government has zero tolerance for corruption and strictest action will be taken against anyone found involved,” according to a statement by the I&amp;B Ministry. https://twitter.com/MIB_India/status/1707649033593135208 The ministry said a senior officer has been deputed to conduct an inquiry into the matter. “A senior officer from the Ministry of Information &amp; Broadcasting has been deputed to Mumbai to conduct an inquiry today itself. We request everyone to cooperate with the Ministry, by providing information about any other instance of harassment by CBFC at jsfilms.inb@nic.in,” the I&amp;B Ministry statement read.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who is a former member of the CBFC told ANI said that Tamil actor has levelled "very serious" allegations and has demanded an investigation by the CBI. He further said that people named by the Tamil actor as having taken the money are not employees of the CBFC and therefore “whoever the money was given to has to be investigated.” “There are two names he takes in his statement, M Rajan and Jija Ramdas. As per my knowledge, these two are not the employees of CBFC... Accusing a CBFC officer at this stage is not right... But if allegations are being made, then we demand a CBI inquiry because the allegations are very serious... It is obvious that any officer who demands money will not take it (directly) into his account... These two people he named should be asked if they have taken the money on someone's behalf at the CBFC... High power inquiry should be initiated," Ashoke Pandit said. On Thursday, actor Vishal had shared a video message on X. "#Corruption being shown on silver screen is fine. But not in real life. Cant digest. Especially in govt offices. And even worse happening in #CBFC Mumbai office. Had to pay 6.5 lacs for my film #MarkAntonyHindi version. 2 transactions. 3 Lakhs for screening and 3.5 Lakhs for certificate," Vishal wrote. The actor also made an appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the matter. "Never faced this situation ever in my career. Calling upon everyone to be quite responsible when it comes to constitutional institutions, Dhankhar stressed that “We must not look at constitutional functionaries with a political prism, only to score brownie political points. That is not acceptable.”
Addressing a gathering of students, staff and faculty of Nalanda University in Bihar, the Vice President said that in the field of education, the world has not seen a more potent and powerful brand. “Nalanda, because its history and Legacy stands out in the world and people will only salute. You have to take this legacy to a higher level.” Noting that the reincarnation of Nalanda will give us a global foothold to disseminate knowledge, he praised the use of Nalanda Mahavihara's image in the backdrop of the recently concluded G20 summit. “In that backdrop of Nalanda, the leaders were received and greeted that speaks volumes of your brand, acceptability of your brand, non-controversial, non-confrontational, collaborative, cooperative, consensual and that is conducive to growth,” he added.
Describing education as the most impactful and transformational mechanism, Shri Dankhar said that “if the world has to be changed, if the society has to progress, if inequities are to be levelled and if justice is to reach the last in the line, knowledge alone can do it.” Fortunately boys and girls there is an emergence of an ecosystem system now in Bharat that allows you to fully utilise your energy, exploit your talent and potential, and realise your aspirations and dreams. There are no handicaps now. Noting that a decade ago, India was included in the Fragile Five economies, the Vice President said that our journey from "from 'Fragile Five' to the world's 5th largest economy is no small achievement.” He expressed confidence that by the turn of the decade, Bharat will be the third-largest economy in the world. Observing that the world thrives on good virtues of wisdom, sublimity, tolerance and listening to other points of view, he underlined the need to have respect for others’ points of view. “Don't be judgmental about it. In my experience, sometimes the other point of view is the correct one,” he added. Recognizing that education leads to respect for other humankind, the Vice President stated “It enlarges your horizon that you don't think in terms of village, state or a nation... you think globally!” He also advised students to be inquisitive and never stop learning, even after leaving Nalanda. Calling the youth as ‘the foot soldiers of democracy’, he cautioned them about the sinister narratives set afloat on social media to malign the image of the country and asked them to speak their minds on such issues. “It is your intelligence that has to neutralize such a narrative, it is your obligation to this society that you must be proactive to nip in the bud such sinister ideas and narratives,” he emphasised. On this occasion, the Vice President also praised the Nalanda University campus for being a net zero energy, net zero emission and net zero waste campus, the first of its kind in India.&nbsp;
