Kokrajhar (Assam) :&nbsp;A suspected bag snatcher was injured in police firing in Kokrajhar district of Assam when he tried to snatch the service weapon of an official, police said on Wednesday. According to a senior police official, the accused was taken to a location in Balajan Tiniali of Kokrajhar district to recover a snatched bag on Tuesday night. "While returning, he tried to snatch the pistol of one officer and ran away. Though he was asked to stop, he didn't pay heed. With no option left, the police team fired one round injuring him on a leg," the official said. With this, altogether 54 people have been killed and at least 140 others injured in police action while allegedly trying to flee from custody or attacking the personnel since the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, assumed office in May 2021. The Assam government on June 20 informed the Gauhati High Court in an affidavit that "no extra-judicial killing" has taken place in the state. PTI

When the victim resisted and held her purse firmly, the pillion rider pulled it forcefully, throwing the woman away from the e-rickshaw.She fell down and sustained grievous injuries on her head and had to be admitted at a hospital for several days. She was even kept on a ventilator support.In another case in south east Delhi, two people came to Lajpat Nagar to collect payment from garment traders at readymade garments market. They collected a cash payment of Rs 38 lakhs from various shopkeepers. The money was kept in a cloth bag, which was further wrapped in a polythene bag.They hired an auto-rickshaw for Chandni Chowk and when the auto-rickshaw reached Defence colony Flyover at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, it was waylaid by four persons who were on two motor-cycles. They tried to snatch the bag but the victims resisted. Then, the assailants threw chilly powder in their eyes and escaped carrying the bag with them.It is not just the common man, but even the people's representatives are not safe.On March 14, former Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel's mobile phone was snatched while he was travelling in a car in north Delhi, however, the police this time, with extreme promptness not only caught the snatcher but even recovered the snatched mobile phone within four hours.In most of the cases, the police get hold of the criminals but a way to prevent such crimes seems a distant dream.Though Delhi Police are fighting hard in every possible way to curb the incidents of street crime, yet, the data indicates a rise in incidents like snatching.Pertinent to mention here that the police is also actively pursuing all the cases of snatching and in this year the solving rate has increased due to the multi-pronged strategies adopted by DCPs of all districts. Last year a significant structural transformation that was implemented was the consolidation through merger of PCR manpower and logistics with police stations. PCR vehicles and manpower which earlier acted as centrally operated mobile emergency response teams with limited policing roles, were decentralised and merged with police stations. It led to substantial increase in human resource availability at police stations, resulting in faster response to distress calls.Apart from this, the police are countering the menace of snatching by increased night patrolling in vulnerable areas and installation of high-tech CCTV cameras. New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 56-year-old woman who was going to celebrate Bhai Dooj was killed after being attacked by scooty-borne snatchers in Rohini's Prashant Vihar area on Wednesday.
The woman fell on the road from the e-rickshaw in which she was travelling, and was dragged along by the accused.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV which has been accessed by IANS.
A senior police official said that the incident occurred on Wednesday night.
The deceased identified as Sunita Mittal was travelling by an e-rickshaw. Her grandson and daughter-in-law were also with her. She was on her way to Rohini sector 9. In the Prashant Vihar area two persons who were riding on a scooty attacked her in a bid to snatch her bag. The woman raised an alarm.
"The e-rickshaw driver accelerated but the bikers kept on trying to snatch the bag due to which the woman fell on the road and was dragged along, suffering severe head injuries. The accused fled after snatching the bag. The woman was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she succumbed during the course of treatment," the police said.
The police said that they have formed several teams to trace the robbers. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the IPC.

New Delhi (The Hawk): In West Delhi's Rajouri Garden, a young person stole a 31-year-old woman's phone. The young person was pursued and apprehended. However, according to a Tuesday official, one more suspect was able to escape.
The incident occurred on December 11 at at 9.30 a.m., when a woman, identified as Ruchi Gulyani, a resident of Moti Nagar, was on her way to her office in Rajouri Garden, according to Ghanshyam Bansal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
Two males on a grey scooter approached her as she approached Mehta Chowk in Rajouri Garden, and while she was on the phone with her phone, they took it. The snatchers were violent despite Ruchi's attempts to cling on to the phone, according to Bansal.
A bystander was stopped by Ruchi, who asked him to assist her in pursuing the offender. He assisted her in pursuing the two. At the C-Block, Tagore Garden Extension, the robbers also succeeded in stealing another mobile phone from Arvind Kumar Singh.
Ruchi didn't give up, though, and kept after them.
"Police also received information and acted quickly." Finally, Ruchi and the police squad were able to capture one robber, who was 17 years old, while the other robber managed to flee the scene, according to the official.
The official reported that a FIR was filed at the Rajouri Garden police station under sections 356 (assaults or use of criminal force), 379 (theft), 392 (robbery), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

New Delhi: A wanted snatcher, who gave the police sleepless nights by committing a series of crimes, was arrested in Delhi's Dwarka.
A senior police official on Sunday said that the accused was identified as Subham alias Shivam (21).&nbsp;
"On December we got a tip off secret that the accused, who was previously involved in several cases of snatching and theft, can be nabbed if a raid is conducted. On the basis of the secret information the accused was apprehended by the team," the police said.
One motorcycle was recovered from his possession. On verification, the motorcycle was found to be stolen.
The police said that the accused was planning to commit another theft when he was caught. Police were interrogating him to know more about his aides and the buyer of stolen property from him.&nbsp;

New Delhi: An official in Delhi said on Saturday that police had arrested two thieves who had been on a rampage of theft and burglary to satisfy their need for narcotics and booze.
The accused are Ambedkar Nagar native Vipin (24), and Lakhi Sarai, Bihar native Ashok Kumar (38). The two were arrested, and the police said they found three stolen phones and tools for breaking into a dwelling.
The police claim that they have a special team monitoring criminals and antisocial elements in Northwest Delhi.
"The team was briefed thoroughly and tasked to intensify patrolling to outlash criminals in the area so as to send a strong message among them.
"On Friday, a police team was patrolling in the area when it received information about suspicious activities of two persons suspected to be criminals," said Jitendra Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest).
The two were caught after being lured into a trap set near Ambedkar Nagar in Haiderpur.
During questioning, the two admitted that they previously looked for empty homes to burglarize and opportunistic victims from which to steal.
The DCP has stated, "The duo took to crime to fulfil their need for drugs and alcohol." Efforts are currently being made to identify their potential participation in additional instances.—Inputs from Agencies

New Delhi: An official in the nation's capital announced on Tuesday that they had apprehended a hardened criminal, age 29, who used to commit snatchings on a high-speed motorcycle between Delhi-NCR and Agra, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
U.P. police fired two shots at the suspect, Najakat Ali alias KTM, a native of the district of Amroha in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the source, he also has a criminal history, with 33 charges lodged against him in UP and Delhi.
Sameer (20), a local of the UP district of Ghaziabad, was revealed to be the recipient of the stolen goods.
Authorities also reported that they found 13 mobile phones and 4 stolen bicycles in the suspect's possession.
Police said that a team from the Greater Kailash police station was looking into robberies and thefts when they noticed that an orange-black KTM bike had been used in the crimes.
"The team scrutinised a number of CCTV footages and efforts of the team bore fruits when the accused Nazakat along with an accomplice were seen committing snatching in one of the footage, " said Chandan Chowdhary, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
The police team assigned to apprehend the perpetrator obtained and analysed over two hundred CCTV clips from locations as far away as Ghaziabad.
"With consistent efforts, the team succeeded in identifying the num ber of the bike which was found to be registered in the name of Ashraf. Accordingly, a raid was conducted at the residence of Ashraf, who informed that the bike is registered in his name but the same is being used by Nazakat, who is his neighbour but he does not reside there anymore, " said the DCP.
"Police came to know that Nazakat was presently living somewhere at Gajraula, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, several raids were conducted at Gajraula and it was revealed that Nazakat is a hard core criminal and he had been shot at by UP Police and thus he kept changing his whereabouts, bikes and mobile numbers very frequently, " the DCP said.
Nazakat was finally apprehended in a rented house in the Sangam Vihar, Wazirabad neighbourhood.
During his interrogation, he admitted to selling stolen or kidnapped mobile phones to a buyer named Sameer.
"Upon his instance, the receiver Sameer was also arrested. Further, upon instance of both the accused persons, four bikes and 13 mobile phones were recovered and 10 cases registered in Delhi have been worked out, " said the DCP.
"Further efforts are being made to nab his associate, who is on the run, " the DCP added.—Inputs from Agencies
