Mumbai: Actress Nora Fatehi, who is of Moroccan descent, has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his heartfelt condolences and support to Morocco, following a devastating earthquake that left the nation reeling.  
The earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Morocco with a powerful force, brought forth a wave of destruction and despair, but it also highlighted the power of global unity and the significance of extending a helping hand in times of crisis. &nbsp;
The earthquake which was felt in many cities of Morocco including Rabat and Casablanca, has reported the death toll of 2000, till now. 
In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity and compassion, Mr Modi extended his condolences and support to the quake hit country. 
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote: “Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to an earthquake in Morocco. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the people of Morocco. Nora took to Instagram Stories, and shared a message for the PM, which read as : "Thank you Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this big support! You were one of the first countries to raise awareness and extend a helping hand! The Moroccan people are very thankful and grateful! Jai Hind!” 
On the work front, Nora will be next seen in a titular role for the first time ever, opposite Vidyut Jammwal and Arjun Rampal in a sports-action film titled ‘Crakk’. She also has films such as ‘Matka’, ‘Dancing Dad’, and Kunal Kemmu’s ‘Madgaon Express’ in the pipeline.&nbsp;

Kochi: One of the most popular BJP leaders of the eighties and nineties in Kerala P. P. Mukundan passed away at a private hospital here on Wednesday, party sources said.&nbsp;
The 77-year-old veteran had been unwell for a while.
He rose in the ranks of the RSS and then in the BJP by being one of the most popular and powerful general secretaries – Organization .
Hailing from Kannur, he was the managing editor of the BJP party organ from 1988 to 95.
However, for a decade starting 2006 he was totally out of the BJP in the state but returned in 2016. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to
get back to where he wished to be in the state unit of the party.
Incidentally, at his peak he was one of h most sought after BJP leaders and his soft and polite demeanor helped social and cultural leaders from
minority communities to gel well with him.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled Mukundan's demise and described him as a "tall" leader of the Sangh Parivar in Kerala.

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday condoled the death of an Army colonel and major, and a DSP, a soldier, and an SPO in two separate encounters between terrorists and security forces, and said entire country is condemning the terror act in one voice.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Priyanka Gandhi posted, "The news of the death of five security personnel, including two officers while fighting the terrorists is very sad. Entire country is condemning the terror act in one voice."

Kochi (Kerala): Veteran filmmaker KG George has died. He was in his late seventies. KG George suffered a stroke a few years ago and since then his health started deteriorating. Unfortunately, on Sunday, he breathed his last.
KG George's funeral is likely to be held on Tuesday Soon after the news broke, several celebs and politicians took to their social media handles to pay tribute to the filmmaker. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said," KG George was a filmmaker who won a place in the hearts of the audience by dealing with socially responsible issues. His unique method was to analyze the structure of society and the structure of individual minds." "KG George made interventions that blurred the distinction between artistic cinema and commercial cinema. That in turn raised the quality and enjoyment level of the movie remarkably. He is the director of many memorable movies," he condoled.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Saturday paid his last respects to the mortal remains of the eminent agricultural scientist Prof MS Swaminathan. Swaminathan, the driving force behind India’s Green Revolution had passed away at his Chennai residence on September 28 at the age of 98.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had on Thursday announced that Swaminathan’s funeral will take place with police honours as a recognition of his immense contributions to the Agriculture department as a world-renowned scientist. “His pioneering work in the field of sustainable food security has had a profound impact worldwide. I will always cherish the moments I spent with him. My thoughts are with his family and the global science community during this difficult time,” Stalin said in a tweet on X. Earlier in a post on social media, Raj Bhavan said "Deeply saddened at the demise of Dr. MS Swaminathan the father of Green Revolution and builder of modern Bharat." "He will always live in our hearts and minds.", the Governor said. "My thoughts are with his family and friends in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!-Governor Ravi", the Raj Bhavan said in the post. Among those who paid their respects to the mortal remains of the late agricultural scientist today was the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. According to the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) the cremation of Prof Swaminathan will be conducted with police honours at the Besant Nagar Crematorium at 12 noon today. His body was placed at the MSSRF in Taramani, Chennai for members of the public to pay their respects. Born on August 7, 1925, in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan, leaves behind a legacy that has forever altered the landscape of Indian agriculture and global food security. He has served as the Chairman of the Government of India’s National Commission on Farmers, President of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, Chairman of the High-Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) of the World Committee on Food Security (CFS), Member of the Indian Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Former Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and International Rice Research Institute amongst others.
He was the recipient of the first World Food Prize for his leadership in India’s Green Revolution and numerous other national and international awards including Padma Vibushan, Ramon Magsaysay award. Swaminathan worked very closely with many former Prime Ministers of India, and Heads of states for the success of the ‘Green Revolution,’ a programme that paved the way for quantum jump in food production and for a “Hunger free India &amp; World”. He headed the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation in Taramani, Chennai. He was known as the "Father of Economic Ecology" by the United Nations Environment Programme. According to a statement by the MSSRF, his advocacy of sustainable agriculture makes him an acknowledged world leader in the field of sustainable food security. He also worked closely with Norman Borlaug, a celebrated American farm scientist and 1970 Nobel Laureate on developing high-yielding wheat varieties. He secured two undergraduate degrees, including one from the Agricultural College, Coimbatore (now, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University). Prof Swaminathan is survived by his three daughters Soumya Swaminathan, Madhura Swaminathan, and Nitya Swaminathan. He was awarded by Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1971 and the Albert Einstein World Science Award in 1986. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his demise by recalling his interactions with the agriculture scientist. "Deeply saddened by the demise of Dr MS Swaminathan Ji. Nilgiris (Tamil Nadu): At least nine people were killed after a tourist bus fell into a gorge in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris district on Saturday, said police. According to police, the bus was on its way from Coonoor to Tenkasi when it met with the accident. The passengers who were onboard the bus were returning home from a tour in Ooty. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the bus accident and prayed for the recovery of the injured in the incident "Pained by the loss of lives due to a bus accident near Coonoor in Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Those injured would be given Rs 50,000," Prime Minister's Office (PMO) posted on X. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore Zone, Saravana Sundar, while speaking to ANI yesterday informed the death of eight people. He also said that a few were seriously injured in the accident.&nbsp;
As per the police, the bus was on its way from Ooty to Mettupalaym in the Coimbatore district of the Southern state when the accident took place. The injured had been rushed to Coonoor government hospital for treatment. "55 people were in the bus. 35 people were injured and sent to Coonoor government hospital for treatment by ambulance," officials said. During the preliminary inquiry, it came to light that the driver lost control over the wheels and ended up falling into a 100 ft-deep gorge at Marapalam near Coonoor, as per police. More details are awaited.

New Delhi: Actress Shraddha Musale on Tuesday expressed her grief over the untimely demise of her ‘CID’ co-actor Dinesh Phadnis, and recalled fond memories with him, adding that he was ‘dil ka saaf insaan’.  Dinesh, who played the role of 'Fredericks' in the India's longest running television show 'CID', passed away in Mumbai.  Talking to IANS, Shraddha expressed her condolences, saying, “This was kind of sudden for us. Like we knew he was a little unwell, a little bit of liver and heart issues. For the past six months the health issues had increased a bit, so we knew that his health is not good. But in the past 3-4 days it has deteriorated more.”  “He was hospitalised, but he was okay. Suddenly one night it got worse liver and kidney, then into heart. Then he had to be on the ventilator. We still had hopes, dialysis was also going on, but last night he passed away,” she shared.  The ‘Porus’ actress further said: “We often get together. He didn’t come in the last few get-togethers, and he said that he is not keeping well.”  “On phone we were in touch. And everybody, even the past CID officers, people very fondly remember him. He was the sweetest soul of today’s times. He was very pure at heart; and you rarely find such people. He was ‘dil ka saaf insaan’,” said Shraddha.  The actress continued: “We are very close to his wife also. She is a sweetheart too.”  Speaking about the fond memories shared with Dinesh, Shraddha told IANS: “What I feel is that we had a ‘dil se dil wala’ connection. We had many hearty one-on one talks with each other. He used to listen to everything that you share with him.”  “We both used to talk in Marathi. The Marathi language brought us together. He used to bring tiffin from home. There used to be heart to heart conversations with him on sets, and also outside. We had an attachment with the star cast of the show, but there was also a one on one attachment with Dinesh ji. And that was something different,” she said.  Shraddha continued: “I miss having those conversations with him. He had a particular place in the green room. Off set he used to wear a black T-shirt. I can visualise him right now at his place, doing his things, and talking.”  The 39-year-old concluded saying the cremation is almost done, adding that she was with his wife.  The actor was 57 years old, and was on ventilator support.  Dinesh was suffering from extensive liver damage, and was hospitalised on December 1.  As per reports, the 57-year-old actor was admitted to Mumbai's Tunga Hospital. Earlier, there were reports that the actor had suffered a heart attack which actor Dayanand Shetty had dismissed.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India]: Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan extended condolences over the demise of DMDK chief and actor Vijayakanth on Thursday. Vijayakanth passed away in Chennai aged 71 after testing positive for Covid-19 earlier in the day.
"The news of the death of my beloved brother Vijayakanth, the founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam, a unique actor and captain of Tamil cinema, who was loved by all, is deeply saddening. He was the creator of innovative ideas in Tamilnadu politics," Kamal Haasan said in a post on X. "Fearless courage was his hallmark. Vijayakanth, a revolutionary artist who made his mark in both the fields of cinema and politics, will remain forever in our memories. I offer my heartfelt condolences to all his family, volunteers and fans who are grieving his loss," he added in his post. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also conveyed condolences to Vijayakanth's bereaved kin. "I am deeply saddened to learn that Vijayakanth, President of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam, former Leader of Opposition and dear brother passed away due to ill health. I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved Premalatha Vijayakanth, Annarath's wife and DMDK General Secretary, her family and her volunteers," EPS posted from his official handle on X.  "I pray that the soul of Vijayakanth, who has done many active works in public life and the field of art and is affectionately known as Captain by the people, rests in the shade of Lord Thiruvadi," he added. The mortal remains of Vijayakanth were taken to the DMDK office in Koyambedu from his Virugambakkam house in Chennai.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister MK Stalin paid floral tributes to Vijaykanth at his Chennai residence. Calling the latter's demise a tragedy for Tamil Nadu and the film industry, CM Stalin said that the news of the DMDK chief's death brought "shock and pain".  The Chief Minister's Office in a statement said the DMDK chief will be laid to rest with full state honours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and BJP state chief K Annamalai, too, condoled the demise of Vijayakanth. Widely known as 'Captain', Vijayakanth's life is marked by a successful career in the Tamil film industry. He founded Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam in 2005. Vijayakanth served as the leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly from 2011-2016. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly twice, representing the Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam constituencies.

His political journey began with Lok Dal before becoming a four time MLA from the Gainsari assembly constituency. Expressing their sorrow various state leaders including Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh paid their respects to the leader. Adityanath took to media and expressed his condolences stating, "The news of MLA Dr. Shiv Pratap Yadavs demise is truly saddening. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his grieving family. Earlier this month, Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav met the SP MP at Siddha Hospital in Moradabad and inquired about his health.
Expressing grief over the death of the senior SP leader, Samajwadi party Chief Akhilesh Yadav in a post on X said, "The demise of senior Samajwadi Party leader and several-time MP Mr. Shafiqur Rahman Barq Saheb is extremely sad. May his soul rest in peace. May the bereaved family members get the strength to bear this immense sorrow". RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary also condoled the death of the senior SP leader "My condolences on the death of Shri Shafiqur Rahman Barq ji. New Delhi [India]: As the nation mourned the dead and struggled to come to terms with the terror attack at Crocus City Hall near Moscow, the Russian embassy in India, on Sunday, opened an online book of condolence for people who wish to offer condolences to the families of the victims. The toll from the heinous attack at the Crocus City Hall music venue near Moscow, which the ISIS claimed credit for, stood at 133 on Sunday, state news agency TASS reported, citing the Russian Investigative Committee.
The online book would enable people to post healing messages or express support and sympathy for the kin of the dead in the comment section. They could even do so by writing to the embassy. "The Embassy has opened an online book of condolences for those who wish to express sympathy to the families of victims of the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack on March 22, 2024. You can write below in the comment section or send a letter to rusembindia@mid.ru," read a post on the official X handle of the Russian Embassy in India. "As the rubble was being removed in the concert hall of the Crocus City Hall, the number of people killed in the terrorist attack has risen to 133. The search operation is underway," read a statement from the Russian Investigative Committee.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin declared March 24 a day of national mourning after the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, TASS reported earlier. In a televised address to the people of Russia, he said, "I declare March 24 a day of national mourning." He vowed to punish terrorists for the attack on the Crocus City Hall music venue in the city of Krasnogorsk, near Moscow, on Friday evening (local time). "Our people, our children, just like the Nazis that once killed our people during the war. They do the same. All the orchestrators, all those who are responsible for this crime will inevitably be found responsible, they will pay. We will identify everyone who stands behind these terrorists and they will pay. This is a strike against Russia," Putin said. He said Russia would investigate the terrorist attack, adding that all four perpetrators, who were directly involved in the attack, were apprehended. He asserted that the investigative authorities would make every effort to collect all facts and details surrounding the attack. Meanwhile, the Russian intelligence agencies detained 11 people, including four 'terrorists', who they claimed were 'directly' involved in a terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall, TASS reported citing Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) statement on Saturday.
