Chandigarh (The Hawk): The 7 days hands-on Training Program on “Insights into Analytical Instrumentation for Applied Sciences” is commenced from 10th-17th May 2022 at the Department of Bio &amp; Nano Technology (FIST Assisted) &amp; Central Instrumentation Laboratory, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUS&amp;T, PURSE Supported), Hisar, India under STUTI program in association with Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Laboratory (SAIF), Panjab University, Chandigarh.The Scheme ‘Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure’ (STUTI) is supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India is intended to build human resources and its knowledge capacity through open access to S&amp;T Infrastructure. It envisions hands-on training and sensitization of the state-of-art instruments in various institutes/departments having availed projects under FIST/PURSE/CURIE/SAIF/ SATHI schemes. The training program is commenced with the patronship of Honorable Prof. B.R. New Delhi (The Hawk): The Ministry of Earth Sciences has signed an agreement with M/s ABS Marine Services Pvt Ltd, Chennai for running, manning, maintenance (including maintenance and operation of scientific equipment), catering, and housekeeping of all the six research ships on the 31st of May 2022.The contract was signed in the presence of Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences and other senior officials from the Ministry and ABS Marine Services Pvt Ltd. The contract includes the maintenance of six&nbsp;research ships viz. Sagar Nidhi, Sagar Manjusha, Sagar Anveshika, and Sagar Tara are managed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai; Sagar Kanya which is managed by National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa and Sagar Sampada managed by the Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), Kochi. These research ships are the backbone for technology demonstration and oceanic research and observations in the country and have contributed significantly in enhancing the knowledge about our oceans and ocean-based resources.The Ministry of Earth Sciences is extending research ships as a national facility to other research institutes and organizations like ISRO, PRL, NGRI, Anna University, etc.The company would be the single point of contact for all ship-related modalities, unlike the present agreements which MoES has with multiple agencies. This is in line with the Government’s ease of doing business initiatives and involvement of the private sector in Government contracts. The contract was signed for an amount of approximately Rupees 142 crores over a 03-year period. One significant feature of this contract is the substantial year-wise saving achieved by the Ministry in the operation and maintenance charges of the Ministry of Earth Sciences research ships and the hi-tech scientific equipment/laboratories on board. It has close coordination with similar service providers and shipping agents around the world which makes it highly impactful in the area ofship utilization and efficient operations.With the help of the new ship management services, the Ministry aims to save costs while also enhancing the value of the marine fleet through innovative, reliable &amp; cost-effective methods.

Gold and silver medals were awarded to students for excellence in research and academic work.&nbsp;Prof. Balram Bhargava, Secretary, Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health &amp; Family Welfare, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research presided over the function.Prof. Bhargava, in his presidential address, congratulated the students who received degrees, diplomas and medals, and appealed to them to use the high-quality education, training and research received at the Institute to its maximum potential in the service of the people.&nbsp;He appreciated the contribution of IIPS in training population scientists and evidence based population research in the country since 1956.Prof. Bhargava emphasized that various population parameters have improved&nbsp;in the country in the recent times as shown by the recent National Family Health Survey (2019-21). Roorkee (The Hawk): To analyze the economic and environmental impact of the COVID 19 pandemic induced reverse migration on the urban-rural continuum,Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, Japan and Keio University, Japan collaborateto implement an India-Japan bilateral projectentitled“Ecosystem centric rural revitalization: Bridging the urban-rural dichotomy toward post-COVID resilient recovery”. The project is jointly funded Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), India, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), The bilateral collaborative research will focus on two selected study sites including Haridwar in India and Kanagawa prefecture in Japan respectively. Haridwar is a holy Hindu pilgrimage center, which later became a prominent industrial hub after the formation of the Uttarakhand State in 2000 and the creation of SIIDCUL (State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation Uttarakhand Limited) in 2002.The first project workshop was conducted in the Committee Room, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Roorkee on June 27, 2022.The objective of the workshop is to bring experts and key stakeholders into a common platform in order to discuss the social and environmental impact of COVID-19 pandemic-induced reverse migration on the urban-rural continuum and how reverse migration can be translated intoan opportunity foraddressing the urban-rural dichotomy. New Delhi: Three days after the devastating Amarnath Yatra tragedy in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the top official from the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) on Monday said there is no science to predict such highly localized events.At least 17 people were killed, and several others suspected to be washed away at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath on Friday evening due to a flash flood as a result of heavy rainfall around the holy cave. The authorities had stopped the Yatra in the wake of the disaster and it was resumed only on Monday.While the Jammu &amp; Kashmir authorities and much of the media continued to blame the tragic incident on a cloudburst near the cave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had said it was a highly localized extreme rainfall event. As per the IMD, a ?cloudburst' is one where there is 100 mm rainfall in just one hour. As per the data from the automatic weather station (AWS) at the holy cave, there was no rainfall from 8.30 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. and only 31 mm rainfall between 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. Clarifying that cloudburst is a definition decided by the scientists, MoES Secretary M Ravichandran told media persons that 100 mm or not, heavy rainfall events are set to increase not just at Amarnath but in other parts of the country too owing to the changing climatic conditions."(However), we need to observe and understand these types of processes. For that we don't have sufficient understanding. Isolated localised heavy rainfall less than a few kms are very difficult to predict, we don't have science to predict it," Ravichandran said. "The extreme is maximum; now the extreme itself has shifted to further extreme. So, we need to define heavy rainfall, extremely heavy rainfall and such various criterion again. The light rains are no more (happening)," he said. He added that the science to predict such highly localized high rainfall events is not available in any country. —IANS

New Delhi (The Hawk): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science &amp; Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) is implementing Cognitive Science Research Initiative (CSRI) to foster the research in this highly interdisciplinary area by combining ideas, principles and methods of psychology, computer science, linguistics, philosophy, neuroscience, etc.In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today, Dr Jitendra Singh said, in last five years, 115 individual projects, 39 Post-Doctoral Fellowships and 20 Conferences/Seminars/Workshops have been supported under CSRI.More than 130 research papers have been published in peer reviewed journals in projects supported. Further, a National Neuroimaging Facility has been established at University of Allahabad with CSRI support. The Department has spent around Rs.103 crores to support various activities under CSRI in last five years.The Department has started multi-centric research projects in different thematic areas to increase the number of research proposals for financial support under the Cognitive Science Research Initiative.The Department of Science and Technology is collaborating with various national institutions working in the domain of cognitive science to improve the research opportunities. In addition to strengthening and expanding the scope of ongoing R&amp;D programmes, some of the key elements of the draft policy which aim to enhance the quality of research outcome include: Creation of conducive culture of profound research in institutions and industry to propel disruptive discoveries and inventions as well as the translational research; ‘Research and Innovation Excellence Framework (RIEF)’ to set up benchmarking mechanisms for recognizing the outcomes and impact of R&amp;D, with respect to its quality, relevance to meaningful impact on society and national needs; ‘Engaged research’ to support the development of products, processes, and technology that incorporates engagement, testing and feedback from the end-user from an early stage; creation of platforms to attract the best talent into the research ecosystem; developing mentoring programmes and supplementary incentivization mechanisms to guide and motivate early career researchers and young scientists; proactive engagement in international S&amp;T collaboration to make Indian science globally more relevant, visible and impactful; setting up a National STI Observatory to facilitate Open Access to knowledge and data to all researchers and institutions.The draft STIP 2022 has envisioned to have 30% participation of women in science by 2030. Some of the key steps taken by the government include: women scientist specific schemes of DST to provide opportunities to women scientists and technologists, especially those who had a break in career under its three components namely, i) Women Scientists Scheme-A (WOS-A) for conducting research in Basic &amp; Applied Sciences, ii) Women Scientists Scheme-B (WOS-B) for research that entail S&amp;T interventions for societal benefit, and iii) Women Scientists Scheme-C (WOS-C) for internship in Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). ‘Consolidation of University Research through Innovation and Excellence in Women Universities (CURIE)’ Programme of DST provides support for development of research infrastructure in women universities to encourage women’s participation in R&amp;D activities. ‘Vigyan Jyoti’ is a new programme to encourage meritorious girl students of Class 9-12 to pursue education and career in science and technology particularly in the areas where women are underrepresented. Another new initiative ‘Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI)’ aims to transform institutions for more gender sensitive approach and inclusiveness with ultimate goal to improve the gender equity in STEMM (Science, Technology Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine). ‘Indo-US Fellowship for Women in STEMM’ programme provides opportunities to women scientists &amp; technologists to undertake international collaborative research in premier institutions in the USA for 3-6 months. A scheme titled “SERB-POWER (Promoting Opportunities for Women in Exploratory Research)” has been launched recently to mitigate gender disparity in science and engineering research funding in various S&amp;T programs in Indian academic institutions and research and development (R&amp;D) laboratories.

Similarly, a total of Rs.36.00 crore and Rs.6.00 crore are first installment for operational and capital heads respectively in the year 2022-23 for the National Forensic Sciences University.Rashtriya Raksha University is established in its own campus at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. In the case of National Forensic Sciences University, apart from the campuses at Gandhinagar and Delhi, two new campuses have been made operational in Goa and Tripura. The National Forensic Sciences University is also commencing training in the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratories at Pune, Bhopal and Guwahati. Taking into account the need for trained manpower in the forensic sciences sector, the Government has approved&nbsp;a Scheme for Modernization of Forensic Capacities, which inter-alia, has a component for expansion of educational facilities for forensic science in the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;The expansion of University infrastructure is a continuous activity, and as per requirements the budget is also provisioned annually.This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

New Delhi (The Hawk): Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has taken many initiatives to harness the potential of Ocean resources.Under the schemes “Ocean—Services, Modelling, Application, Resources and Technology (O-SMART)” and “Deep Ocean Mission (DOM)” of MoES, resource inventories for energy, fisheries, and minerals have been taken up. Government of India signed a 15 year contract with International Seabed Authority (ISA) for exploration of polymetallic nodules from Central Indian Ocean Basin (CIOB) in 2002. Extensive survey and other developmental activities have been carried out in 75000 sq km area retained by India in CIOB. MoES has undertaken exploration and other developmental activities related to polymetallic sulphides under a 15 years contract signed in 2016 with International Seabed Authority (ISA) for exploration of polymetallic sulphides in the allotted area of 10,000 sq km along Central Indian Ridge (CIR) &amp; Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR) region of the Indian Ocean.National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) under MoES has developed, demonstrated and operated unmanned remotely operated systems to harness ocean resources. Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE) of MoES explored the deep-sea living resources under Marine Living Resources Programme (MLRP). The programme covers the regular monitoring of the Indian ecosystems covering pelagic to deep sea realms vis-à-vis documenting the taxonomic information and development of technology for harnessing resources.Geological Survey of India (GSI) under Ministry of Mines has delineated prospective offshore areas within Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of India for marine mineral resources like lime mud, heavy mineral placers [ilmenite, monazite, rutile, sillimanite, garnet, zircon], and construction sand. Kolkata: The Opposition parties in West Bengal reacted storongly to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealing to the judiciary to be more active in protecting the institution while addressing the 14th convocation ceremony of the West Bengal National University of Judicial Sciences here on Sunday.
Reacting to Banerjee's remark that unnecessary harassment of people has increased manifold these days, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha member and senior advocate in the Calcutta High Court, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, said that he couldn't really understand what the Chief Minister wanted to say.
"Only she (Banerjee) can understand what she means. It is true that democratic practices should be safeguarded. But at the same time, corruption cannot continue in the name of protecting democratic practices. And if legal actions are taken against corruption, it does not mean maligning social prestige. Action against corruption will have to continue in a democratic system," Bhattacharya said.
State Congress president and Lok Sabha member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury accused the Chief Minister of creating indirect pressure on the judiciary.
"The deprived teachers in West Bengal have knocked the doors of the judiciary seeking justice. The judiciary has so far stood by them, at least what is evident from its recent directives and orders. But the ruling party in West Bengal is not comfortable with that. The Chief Minister is herself against democratic practices," Chowdhury said.
BJP's former national secretary Rahul Sinha said that while the Chief Minister is talking about democratic practices, her own party is facing an immense crisis.
"One professor was sent behind the bars for a social media post against the Chief Minister. She is not even sparing the youth who are democratically protesting against teachers' recruitment irregularities. The Chief Minister never attends national events convened by the Union government. And she is now so worried about federal democracy," Sinha asked.
Reacting to the Opposition's comments, Trinamool Congress spokesman Kunal Ghosh said that the Chief Minister has rightly pointed out that the judiciary is the final shelter for justice for the common people.
"What is there to criticise about this? The reactions of the Opposition leaders are not acceptable," Ghosh said.&nbsp;

London News: Do you often shout at your kids or isolate them when they misbehave? If so, your kids are more likely at risk of developing lasting mental health problems, according to a new study.

The study of over 7,500 Irish children, reported in the journal Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences, showed that children exposed to 'hostile' parenting at age three were 1.5 times likelier than their peers to have mental health symptoms which qualified as 'high risk' by age nine.

"The fact that one in 10 children were in the high-risk category for mental health problems is a concern and we ought to be aware of the part parenting may play in that," said Ioannis Katsantonis, a doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Education at University of Cambridge in the UK.

"We are not for a moment suggesting that parents should not set firm boundaries for their children's behaviour, but it is difficult to justify frequent harsh discipline, given the implications for mental health."

Importantly, the study also makes clear that parenting style does not completely determine mental health outcomes. Children's mental health is shaped by multiple risk factors, including gender, physical health, and socio-economic status.

"Avoiding a hostile emotional climate at home won't necessarily prevent poor mental health outcomes from occurring, but it will probably help," Jennifer Symonds, Associate Professor in the School of Education at University College Dublin in Ireland.

For the study, the team charted the children's mental health symptoms at ages three, five, and nine. They studied both internalising mental health symptoms (such as anxiety and social withdrawal) and externalising symptoms (such as impulsive and aggressive behaviour, and hyperactivity).

About 10 per cent of the children were found to be in a high-risk band for poor mental health. Children who experienced hostile parenting were much more likely to fall into this group, the researchers said.

The researchers said that mental health professionals, teachers and other practitioners should be alert to the potential influence of parenting on a child who shows signs of having poor mental health. They add that extra support for the parents of children who are already considered to be at risk could help to prevent these problems from developing.

Katsantonis said that the findings underscored the importance of early intervention and support for children who are at risk of mental health difficulties, and that this should involve tailored support, guidance and training for new parents. IANS

Guwahati: Inaugurating the first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of the northeastern region in Guwahati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday slammed the previous governments for doing precious little to uplift the healthcare infrastructure of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Modi pointed out, "The first AIIMS was built in Delhi during the 1950s. People from all corners went to AIIMS Delhi for treatment, but no government understood the need of setting up AIIMS campuses all over the country."

"It was the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government that took the initiative of building AIIMS in other cities," he added.

Following the departure of Vajpayee's government in 2004, Modi said the projects were stalled, and after 2014, when the BJP came to power at the Centre, the process of setting up AIIMS across the country got underway.

He said, "We started to build 15 AIIMS campuses, and today at least more than 50 per cent of them are functional. The teaching of medical courses and providing treatment began in those institutes."

The Prime Minister also inaugurated three new medical colleges in Assam along with initiating the foundation work of a multidisciplinary, state-of-the-art hospital at IIT Guwahati.

Taking a potshot at the Opposition, Modi claimed that due to the erroneous principles of previous governments, the healthcare system took a beating.

According to him, the country experienced a huge shortage of medical professionals earlier.

"Prior to 2014, there were only 150 medical colleges in the country. In the last nine years, the BJP-led government has focused on that sector, and we have built 300 new medical colleges. Now, there are more than 1 lakh seats in MBBS courses. The PG seats also increased multiple times," Modi mentioned.

He also said that work is on to further increase the number.

PM Modi claimed that reservations in medical seats and providing medical education in regional languages were introduced to facilitate people from marginal backgrounds studying healthcare courses.

Without naming the Congress, he alleged that due to the credit-hungry nature of others, the northeast was lacking in development for many years.

He said, "Now, wherever I go and talk about development. I can see a new illness among some people. They keep on complaining about why they were not given credit."

Due to this credit-hungry nature, they (the opposition) earlier felt the northeast was too far. But, we do not need credit; rather, the BJP worked with 'sewa-bhav', and you can see the results. Today, anyone who comes to Assam and the northeast for the first time talks about the enormous development the region has witnessed in the last few years," he claimed.

The Prime Minister also said, "Along with better connectivity, the northeast is now witnessing a change in the social sector too. The MBBS seats have been doubled here. A number of new medical colleges have been set up."

He said that all these were possible due to a stable and strong government at the centre since 2014.

"I feel lucky to serve you. It is the love of the people of Assam that brings me here repeatedly," Modi said. IANS

New Delhi: The CBI has lodged an abetment to suicide case in connection with death of Ananya Dixit, a medical student who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a medical college in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh in 2017.

Three days after her admission in Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute Of Medical Sciences (SRMS-IMS) college, she was found dead under mysterious circumstances on September 11, 2017.

As parents of the girl were not satisfied with the probe of local police, they had moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the matter to the CBI.

The local police had also filed a chargesheet against two persons under sections 306/201 of the IPC. The matter was then handed over to the Crime Branch team which filed a closure report.

The local Metropolitan Magistrate had by then taken cognizance of the chargesheet and the case was transferred to Sessions court.

"A young girl child has died an unnatural death while pursuing medical studies and two investigating agencies have given reports, one in the form of charge-sheet arraigning two individuals as accused and the other filing closure report. In view of the fact that there appears to be contradiction in the two reports filed by two investigating agencies and also considering the nature of these cases, we are of the opinion that further investigation ought to be undertaken by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)," the apex court had said in its order.

Ananya's father Anadi Dixit had alleged that she was subjected to "mental torture" in the name of ragging. He had alleged that the college administration did not wait for the police and broke open the door and kept few things with them, which raised doubts.

Her father alleged that college administrator did not inform him and he got to know about the death of her daughter from someone else.

In last three years, she was the third student in the college who allegedly committed suicide.
Earlier, one Priyana Singh, a girl from Bhivani, Haryana, committed suicide in 2015 while one Yash Kumar Khatwani took the extreme step in 2016.

Dixit parent's had said that in three years, three brilliant students ended their lives which proved something was "serious". IANS

Prayagraj: Ramakant Dubey, an official of the Prayagraj-based Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), has not slept peacefully since April 15, the day gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead.

Dubey has sought security cover for himself and his family since he and his family apprehend retaliation from the henchmen of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad.

It was Dubey who had lodged an FIR against Atiq in February 2017 that had led to the arrest of the latter.

After this, the gangster-turned-politician never walked free -- right till his death on April 15 night.

On December 14, 2016, Atiq Ahmed, along with a dozen henchmen, had created ruckus at SHUATS in support of a youngster (a student at the deemed university) who also used to give tuition to Ahmed's two youngest sons.

After being rusticated by SHUATS officials on charges of cheating during examinations, the youth had sought Atiq's support to force officials to revoke the rustication order.

Atiq asked SHUATS officials to withdraw the rustication order, but when they refused citing rules, the gangster and his henchmen barged on to the campus in Naini and allegedly beat up whoever they found there.

He even went to the Vice-Chancellor's office.

Unable to find him there, he allegedly assaulted SHUATS PRO Ramakant Dubey after locking the room. If the FIR in this regard is to be believed, he even threatened to kill him.

Guddu Muslim and Sabir (now accused in lawyer Umesh Pal murder) were also present along with Atiq, police officials confirmed.

"I got the FIR lodged on the day of the incident at Naini police station and he was arrested in February 2017 after the Allahabad high court questioned the police over delay in action against him and sent him to jail," recalled Ramakant Dubey.

The arrest led to many more cases being registered against Atiq and he never could secure bail despite several efforts in lower courts and the Allahabad High Court.

He said that Atiq and his supporters held him responsible for the troubles he faced after his arrest in the SHUATS case.

After he was killed along with his brother Khalid Azeem while on police remand in Prayagraj on April 15, Dubey said: "I fear that his henchmen, who are on the run, could target me in retaliation. I had approached local officials for my security, but in vain.

"Therefore, on April 18, I wrote to the chief minister, UP DGP, principal secretary (home), ADG (Prayagraj zone), district magistrate-Prayagraj and Prayagraj police Commissioner seeking security."

Dubey claimed that he had received threats from Atiq while he was in state jails and even when the gangster was in Sabarmati jail of Gujarat.

He said officials were informed about these threat calls from time to time but no action was taken.

Roorkee (The Hawk): The European Geosciences Union (EGU) has conferred the Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award upon Prof. Ankit Agarwal for his exceptional contributions to the field of hydroclimatic extremes. Ankit Agarwal is an assistant professor at the Department of Hydrology, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee).  The EGU President Irina M. Artemieva conferred the award upon Prof. Ankit Agarwal during the EGU General Assembly 2023 held in Vienna, Austria, from 23-28 April 2023. The Natural Hazards Division of EGU has recognised Ankit Agarwal for his significant research in complexity science for better understanding, quantifying and predicting hydroclimatic extremes. By merging nonlinear dynamics with hydrometeorology, he has improved the forecast of climate-related extremes. Through this award, the EGU recognises young scientists who have made remarkable scientific achievements and inspire the next generation of geoscientists. Prof. Brijesh Kumar Yadav, Head of the Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee, congratulated Ankit and commended his steadfast research philosophy and student-centered approach. He also praised Ankit's dedication to promoting science among underprivileged researchers globally and striving for equitable opportunities. The EGU awards &amp; medals programme honors eminent scientists for their exceptional research contributions in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. Candidates for each division's Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award are evaluated by the relevant division president, who forwards the most outstanding candidate to the Chair of EGU's Awards Committee. Prof. Agarwal is the first Indian to receive Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award. Dehradun / Rishikesh (The Hawk): Youth-20 consultation began on Thursday at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh. In this two-day long Y-20 conference, various delegates from the country and other nations will brainstorm ideas and provide a new direction to the youth. During the Holistic Health Conclave programme on the first day of the summit, distinguished persons from various fields expressed and presented their views. Youth representatives from the host state, other states and from other nations participated in the conclave.
Earlier, delegates from India and other nations participated in this session by practicing yoga. During this, session, ways to counter the challenges coming in the way of building a holistic technology-based healthcare eco-system in the country were discussed.
Inaugurating the summit, Prof. Meenu Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Rishikesh said that this summit has provided an opportunity to the youth of the country and the world to strengthen themselves in the health sector. With this, the youth will get the experience of holistic health. Along with this, you will also get an opportunity to exchange your views. He welcomed the participants from various states including Japan, Germany, Singapore, UK and USA and explained the vision of the Prime Minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi, to organize the Youth-20 Summit under the G-20.&nbsp;
Chief Guest of the event, State Women Welfare, Child Development and Youth and Sports Minister Rekha Arya said that the spirit of India's Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam will be fruitful at the global level with this summit. She said that India's population is 16 percent at the global level. Inspiring the youth, she called upon them to increase their concentration towards sports by continuous practice of Yoga. Swami Dayadipanand Maharaj, Medical Superintendent of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital Haridwar told the youth the need to be healthy, not only physically but also mentally. He asked youth to adopt the principles of right knowledge, right thinking, right lifestyle and proper eating habits in life. Said that this method is the main mantra to keep life healthy. He also threw light on Ashtanga Yoga and Practical Vedanta.
Swami Chidanand Maharaj, President of Parmarth Niketan advised the youth to avoid junk food and talked about adopting the simple principle of Eat Right, Eat Light. He said that the youth of that country have the maximum contribution in the development of any country. That's why it is necessary that instead of medication, he should pay more attention to meditation.
Describing the youth as the source of energy, Director Youth and Sports Department, Uttarakhand, Jitendra Kumar said that if the youth group concentrates its full power, it can make the impossible possible. The session was moderated by Dr. Oshin Puri, Intern, AIIMS Rishikesh.
In the second session, a debate was organised between the young students of AIIMS Rishikesh and Veer Singh Garhwali Medical College Srinagar Garhwal. The topic of the debate was "Modern Medicine and Alternative Medicine and Yoga". In debate both the sides discussed in depth on modern and alternative medicine. Mr. Kiyohiro Yamamoto, CEO of Edgeville Corporation, Japan, spoke to the youth on the health impact of indoor environment. He said that more than 90 percent of every person's time is spent inside his house. For this reason, it is very important to have a healthy environment inside the house. Under which it is necessary to have sufficient light, clean air, balanced temperature in the house. This environment determines the health of the people living in that house. Due to the side effects of the bad environment inside the house, the person becomes ill. Therefore, smart building technology should be used in residential complexes.

In other programs
In the first session on Thursday at the AIIMS Auditorium, the participants were introduced to various forms of yoga. About 50 Indian and foreign participants took part in the yoga session. On this occasion, Yoga connoisseur from Finland Madam Heidi gave a message to the youth that Yoga helps in connecting one with spirituality and God in many ways.&nbsp;
Yogacharya Haidy said that regular yoga activities give us better health and longer life. Explained that yoga is a spiritual process that involves bringing the body, mind and soul together.&nbsp;
AIIMS Executive Director Professor (Dr.) Meenu Singh specially participated in the yoga session. During this, he also practiced various Yogik Kriyas in the Yoga session with the seekers from India and abroad. Yoga Instructor Deepchand Joshi, Sandeep Bhandari, Amit Bhardwaj, Beena of AIIMS Ayush Department also cooperated in the session. Dr. Vandana Dhingra, Dr. Prakhar Sharma, Dr. Rohit Gupta, Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Dr. Vinod, Dr. Pooja Bhadoria, Dr. Ashish Jain, Dr. Raj Rajeshwari etc were present on this occasion.&nbsp;
Under the two-day Youth 20 consultation event organized at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, on the first day, addiction management was also organized with the aim of keeping the youth away from drug addiction, in which the expert advised the youth to quit addiction and join the mainstream of life.&nbsp;
In the addiction management session organized under Youth-20 events at Ayush Bhawan of AIIMS, German expert Ziva Hammond in her lecture gave a message to the participating youth to stay away from any kind of addiction in life. She suggested preventive measures to the youth suffering from drug addiction. For this she told "12 Steps Recovery and Bhakti Yoga" (12 steps to quit addiction through Bhakti Yoga). Jeeva Hammond appealed to the participants that if any person in their family, contact or surrounding society is suffering from any kind of addiction, then motivate them to follow the formula of "12 Steps Recovery and Bhakti Yoga". Dr. Mridul Dhar etc faculty members were present on the occasion.
