Mumbai: The 13th edition of the Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, which happens to be South Asia's biggest LGBTQIA+ film festival is currently underway at Liberty Cinema in India's financial capital in the Pride month of June. The film fest, which screens gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer films from India and around the world, is the first Indian LGBTQ+ festival to be held with the approval of the Information &amp; Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India.The film fest was founded in 2010, a year after the Delhi High Court's landmark ruling decriminalised homosexual intercourse between consenting adults and judged Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code to be conflicting with the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India. It boasts of support from Indian film personalities with Shyam Benegal being the Festival Patron.Since then, Kashish has become an important medium for exhibition, production and distribution of LGBTQIA+ films. It has been voted as one of the Top 5 LGBT Film Festivals in the World, and also one of the Top 5 Film Festivals in India. The festival will be screening more than 190 films from 53 countries from June 1 to June 5. 'Antharam' the bilingual Tamil-Malayalam film opened the fest. It focuses on the plight of a trans woman who had to live as a wife of an ordinary man. 'Antharam' deals with the inner conflicts, warmth, trauma and joyous moments in the lives of a trans woman, a woman and a man living under the same roof.'Antharam' was followed by the screening of the Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer 'Badhaai Do'. The film happens to be one of the rare few commercial Bollywood films to have an LGBTQIA story at the heart of it. Commenting on the occasion, Rajkummar Rao said, "I am grateful that the audiences resonated so well with our film. Now that the Pride month is here, and celebrating it at a platform like KASHISH with a film that's so close to me is truly heartwarming." The screening of the Junglee Pictures' movie, which was the special feature at the fest, was attended by Rajkummar Rao, Chum Darang, Harshavardhan Kulkarni and Junglee Pictures CEO Amrita Pandey along with the film's team. The 30-minute short 'Sheer Qorma', starring Shabana Azmi, Divya Dutta and Swara Bharkar, directed by Faraz Ansari will be screened on June 4. It will play as Indian Narrative Centepiece film, followed by a panel discussion titled, 'Mainstreaming Lesbian &amp; Non-Binary Identities'.Other notable feature length films are 'Holy Wound' by Asok R Nath with no dialogues, 'Naanu Ladies' in Kannada by Shailaja Padindala, a non-binary filmmaker, 'July, 2020' in English directed by Sahej Nandrajog and 'Sanwri - Love Beyond Gender' in Hindi, directed by Pallavi Roy. Two other notable films are 'Trans Kashmir', about transgender community in Kashmir by Surabhi Dewan, and 'Mumu Shelly' by Batul Mukhtiar. Pride Month special: 6 queer movies that address homophobia

Bhopal (The Hawk): The Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act 1996, which was passed by the Center, is about to be put into effect by the BJP-led administration in Madhya Pradesh.
A formal declaration in this regard is expected to be made on Tuesday in front of President Droupadi Murmu, according to sources.
President Murmu will arrive in the state to take part in the second Janajatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day), a large-scale celebration being planned by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP administration to commemorate independence hero Birsa Munda's birth anniversary in Shahdol district on November 15.
In light of the impending Assembly elections, which are only 10 months away, sources told IANS that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is likely to announce the implementation of the PESA Act in the state on this particular occasion.
The BJP, which is now in power, wants to protect the tribal community's interests and traditions by passing this Act. The Gram Sabha would be able to work effectively for tribal development by putting the legislation into action gradually.
Tribal gramme sabhas (village panchayats) will have the authority to resolve disputes within the community once the PESA Act is put into effect. Before initiating any action against a tribal person in a specific district, the police must notify the tribal panchayat.
Notably, Madhya Pradesh is regarded as the country's tribal core. One-fifth of the state's population is comprised of the tribal community. It boasts of significant mineral and precious metal deposits, evergreen forests, a wide variety of flora and fauna, lakes and rivers, and excellent water supplies.
By starting a campaign to distribute letters pertaining to forest rights, the state government has also helped to maintain stability within the indigenous population. The letters about forest rights have already been sent to about 2,50,000 tribal members. Throughout addition, the government has examined and approved approximately 34,900 claims made in the state under the Forest Rights Act that had been disregarded during the initial phase of the campaign.
It started the Hemoglobinopathy Mission on November 15, 2021, to stop the threat of blood-related disorders such sickle cell anaemia, thalassemia, and haemophilia. The tribal beneficiaries of this project will receive free care for any such illness.
The government constantly provides enough nutrition for two lakh twenty five thousand women of the particular backward tribes of Baiga, Bharia, and Sahariya under the National Food Security Act.

On the day when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya, Kalpana, a daughter of Uttarakhand made history by embarking on a scuba diving adventure, in the Indian Ocean. She carried the revered flag of Shri Ram with devotion and courage. Excitedly Kalpana shared her anticipation of encountering Ramlala. Expressed her desire to personally witness the image of Lord Ram on Ram Navami alongside her parents.  Kalpana comes from a family in Village Dwarason in Bageshwar district. Despite being she felt an inner calling to contribute something meaningful for Lord Ram. Overcoming an ailment she was determined to fulfill her resolution of exploring the depths of the sea with Lord Rams ensign before Ramlalas idol consecration.  "I feel blessed by Lord Ram " exclaimed Kalpana urging everyone to spread kindness on this occasion. Sharing her experience she described how a simple invocation of Lord Rams name on a Saturday morning paved the way for her to dive 30 feet into the sea, for this event.  This is not the time that Kalpana has showcased her spirit through daring endeavors. In the past she went scuba diving, on the Tricolor as a way to celebrate the success of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Mission Chandrayaan 3. Patna: Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday claimed "a surge in Hindu pride" was likely to boost the party's prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, but discounted the role of "Modi magic".
The maverick leader, who was here to take part in a 'law conclave', asserted that in the BJP, and its ideological parent RSS, greater value was attached to 'sangathan' (organisation) and 'siddhant' (principles) than to individuals.  "I too believe that the BJP will surpass its previous electoral performances because, for the first time, Hindus are feeling proud of their identity. They no longer feel the diffidence that was thrust upon them during Nehru's time," Swamy told reporters, responding to queries about PM Modi's claim of the party winning more than 370 seats and the NDA crossing the 400-mark.

The former Union minister, however, added, "Some people may think that this change has taken place because of them. We need not attach importance to such things... I don't think there is anything like Modi magic. Individuals are not put on a pedestal in BJP-RSS.
