Doiwala (Uttarakhand): On Tuesday, the patients coming to the OPD and registration counter of the Dermatology Department were given questions and their answers related to leprosy. On this occasion, MBBS students conveyed to the general public information related to leprosy and its prevention through poster exhibition and street drama. Head of the Department of Dermatology, Dr. Rashmi Jindal, while addressing the people present, gave information about the symptoms and treatment of leprosy. It is said that leprosy is caused by Mycobacterium. Its initial symptoms are formation of white and red spots on the skin, feeling of weakness along with numbness in hands and legs. He said that the department organizes such events every year to make patients aware about the social misconceptions related to skin diseases. Dr. YS Bisht said that if leprosy is treated on time, this disease can be completely cured. Dr. Samarjit Roy told the patients that it is a misconception that leprosy spreads through contact; this disease is not a disease of contact. Leprosy can be treated, depending on its type. Antibiotics are used to cure the infection, and treatment usually lasts for 6 months to a year. However, if the patient has problem of nerve damage then other treatments are used for this. On this occasion, Dr. Dikshita, Dr. Ritu, Dr. Anuj, Dr. Arnav, Dr. Jagriti, Dr. Darshana, Dr. Vrinda, Dr. Sakshi, Dr. Shobhit, Dr. Tabir were present amongst others.

Awareness campaign launched at Himalayan Hospital on World Leprosy Day

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Uttarakhand has become the state in the country to get the maximum number of Geographical Indication Certificates in a single day, 18. Till now, a total of 27 products of Uttarakhand have received GI tags, said an official statement from the government of Uttarakhand on Monday. The 18 new GI certificates that the state has received include Uttarakhand Chaulai, Jhangora, Manduwa, Red Rice, Almora Lakhori Chilli, Berinag Tea, Burans Sharbat, Ramnagar Nainital Litchi, Ramgarh Peach, Malta, Pahari Tor, Gahat, Kala Bhatt, Bicchubooti fabric, Nainital candle, Kumaoni colored Pichhoda, Chamoli Ramman mask and Likhai wood carving are included, added the statement.
While nine products from the state including - Tejpat, Basmati rice, Aipan Art, White Rajma of Munsiyari, Ringal Craft, Thulma, Bhotiya Dan, Chiura Oil, and Copper products have already received GI tag. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that it is because of his visionary thinking that today 18 products of Uttarakhand have been able to get certificates with Geographical Indication tag from the Government of India.

CM also congratulated the producers of the products which were awarded GI tag certificates and called the day "historic" for Uttarakhand. "For the first time in the twenty years since the enactment of the GI law in 2003 till 2023, GI certificates have been issued to 18 products of a state simultaneously in a single day." "With this achievement, the hill cuisine of Uttarakhand, along with many other items and the artists related to them will be greatly benefited and Uttarakhand will get a different identity across the world," he added. He expressed hope that the export of GI-tagged products from Uttarakhand will increase rapidly and will further strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to make India self-reliant. The Chief Minister said that to promote local products in all the districts of Uttarakhand, work is being done rapidly in the state on 'One District, Two Products' scheme. Under this scheme, two products are being developed in each district on the basis of skill development, design, raw material, new technology, etc. as per the market demand. The main objective of the scheme is to identify local products and develop traditional industries accordingly in all the 13 districts of Uttarakhand. With this scheme, on one hand, self-employment opportunities are increasing for local farmers and artisans, while on the other hand, local products of every district are getting world-class recognition.

Dehradun (The Hawk): In a bid to rescue a woman threatened by armed miscreants over a land dispute, an elderly man fell victim to their gunshots. The incident, occurring in a village of Dehradun district, left a youth injured. The police swiftly arrested two suspects late last night, while one remains at large. According to reports, three criminals arrived in a Haryana-plated car and threatened a woman named Chhuma Devi at her house regarding a land matter. They also fired shots. Nearby resident, Bagel Singh (65), rushed to intervene and shield the woman but was shot by the culprits. His son, Jotaram, attempted to disarm them and got injured in the process. Anil, another local, also tried to intervene, but he was shot and wounded. The injured were hospitalized. Police arrived at the scene upon receiving information. However, the three assailants, who arrived in the Haryana-plated car, fled and looted Anil Kumar's scooter near the incident site. Police have registered a case of murder against Rohit and three others, while Anil's report led to a case of robbery. The police have recovered the scooter and arrested two suspects from Ring Road in Dehradun, with one still at large. Allegedly, one party involved in the land dispute hired the assailants to threaten, leading to this unfortunate incident.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): The Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, released the names of candidates who have been given new responsibilities in the state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Director General Information Banshidhar Tiwari said that CM Dhami has decided to provide responsibilities to ten leaders who will work in the public interest.
Former BJP President of Uttarakhand, Jyoti Prasad Gairola, has been appointed as the Vice President of the Twenty-Point Programme Implementation Committee (State Level). Ramesh Gadia has been given the responsibility of Vice President for the State Level Watershed Council; Madhu Bhatt has been appointed as the Vice President of the Uttarakhand Sanskrit Literature and Arts Council; and Mufti Shamoon Qasmi will oversee the Uttarakhand Madrassa Education Council as President. Balraj Pasi has been appointed as President of the Uttarakhand State Seed and Organic Products Certification Institute, Suresh Bhatt as Vice President of the Level National Rural Health and Monitoring Council, and Anil Dabbu as Chairman of the Agricultural Production and Marketing Board (Mandi).
CM Dhami has appointed Kailash Pant as the chairman of the Uttarakhand State Advisory Labour Contract Board and Shiv Singh Bisht as the vice chairman of the Prime Minister Rural Road Scheme State Level Monitoring Council. While Narayan Ram Tamta has been appointed as President of Hariram Tamta Traditional Craft Development Institute, read the official statement. CM Dhami, who is on a UK tour to invite industrialists to the Global Investor Summit in the state, said on Wednesday that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 9,000 crores was signed, adding that people are willing to invest in Uttarakhand. Speaking to ANI, he said," "We have made more than 27 new policies. Some amendments have been made, and some new policies have been made. "We have brought these policies to investors. If investment comes to Uttarakhand, the youth will get employment, and there will be growth," Dhami said. "He further stated that more MoUs are expected to be signed on the fourth day of his visit," he added.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): The first-ever Orchid Diversity Survey at Corbett Tiger Reserve revealed a rich treasure house of colourful orchids. The survey was conducted by the Research Wing of the Uttarakhand Forest in Corbett Tiger Reserve from 2020 to August 2023. This project was approved by the Research Advisory Committee (RAC), headed by HoFF, Uttarakhand in 2020.  Chief Conservator of Forests (Research), Sanjiv Chaturvedi said, "Survey has revealed that Corbett Tiger Reserve has a rich orchid diversity. It has shown existence of 31 orchid species, representing 23 genera within the Orchidaceae family. Among these species, 11 are terrestrial, two are saprophytic, and 18 are epiphytic”. 
Orchid species hold a unique and vital place in the world of plants, captivating both scientists and enthusiasts alike. Their importance extends far beyond their aesthetic beauty, as these remarkable plants play a crucial role in various ecological, economic, and cultural aspects. They are very valuable and highly threatened and therefore, protected under schedules of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 as well as under CITES. The study has revealed the existence of important threatened species, like Phaius tankervilleae, also known as Red Cane Orchid or Nun’s Orchid, and Pecteilis gigantean, known as the Butterfly Orchid. Both these species have already been declared as a threatened species by the State Biodiversity Board. Furthermore, the research has identified Eulophia flava (Yellow Eulophia), Eulophia explanata (Flattened Eulophia), Cymbidium macrorhizon (Large Root Cymbidium) and Epipogium roseum (Rosy Ghost Orchid), as rare species documented during the study. The finding of Eulophia explanata is a significant event, which is discovered after 36 36-year gap in Uttarakhand state. The study's findings underscore the significance of Sal (Shorea robusta) as the foremost favoured host plant among epiphytic orchid species within the reserve area. Another significant species was Checkered Vanda which is a very significant medicinal orchid used in ‘Ayurvedic shamans’ and in the Tantric cult. 
Sanjiv Chaturvedi further said, "The Study's findings would be invaluable for shaping a conservation strategy dedicated to orchid species. These orchids may turn out to be a major tourist attraction also in future." The survey team consisted of four young JRF of the Research Wing- Manoj Singh, Jyoti Prakash Joshi, Kiran Bisht and Tanuja Pandey.&nbsp;

Mussoorie: A massive fire broke out in 'The Rink', a nearly one-and-a-half century historical heritage hotel in Uttarakhand's Mussoorie, due to a short circuit during renovation work, authorities said.
The fire started from the hotel itself and engulfed the entire rink. Due to the fire, two cars parked on the road below the rink were also burnt down to ashes.
A fire broke out at Seed's Rink, a heritage hotel located on the Camel Back Road in Mussoorie early Sunday morning. Fire brigade vehicles reached the spot on receiving information and tried to control the fire.
According to people, short circuiting was the cause of the fire.
It is being told that construction work was going on in the hotel recently, hence the rooms were left vacant.
Only a few hotel employees were present at the time of the accident and ran away.
The help of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel is being taken to control the fire. The hotel has been completely burnt to ashes and the roadside portion may collapse any time. Due to which the police is fully prepared regarding security of the people.
Local people say that the hotel was quite old, in which many skating competitions were often organised.

Dehradun: Delhi &amp; District Cricket Association (DDCA) director Shyam Sharma on Saturday met Rishabh Pant at Max Hospital in Dehradun and expressed satisfaction at the treatment being given to the cricketer.
"He (Pant) is being looked after well by doctors here. The BCCI is also in touch with them, taking updates on his condition. As of now, he will be kept here only," Sharma said after meeting Pant.
Rishabh Pant, who suffered multiple injuries in a major crash on Friday, is likely to be flown to Delhi in the next 24 hours for further treatment.
Earlier, Sharma had said that Pant could to be airlifted to Delhi for his plastic surgery.
"A team of Delhi &amp; District Cricket Association (DDCA) is going to Max Hospital Dehradun to monitor his health, if required we'll shift him to Delhi and chances are high that we'll airlift him to Delhi for plastic surgery," Sharma told ANI.
The ligament injury on Pant's knee needs treatment and the BCCI has advised the Max Hospital in Dehradun not to undertake it immediately, said a report in Cricbuzz.
Pant has undergone plastic surgery intervention for facial injuries, lacerated wounds and abrasions. He will undergo an MRI scan of his ankle and knee on Saturday.
Pant is "stable, cognizant, and oriented", according to the hospital's medical bulletin which was released on Friday night. The India wicketkeeper-batter suffered injuries on his head, back and feet but is in a stable condition after his car collided with a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.
The reports of CT scan of his brain and spinal cord have returned "normal" as per BCCI officials who are in constant touch with Max Dehradun.
He has also been given "above knee splintage" by the medical staff at Max Hospital in Dehradun for a possible right knee ligament injury as well as a suspected right ankle ligament injury.
Dr. Sushil Nagar, who treated Pant in emergency, said the cricketer didn't suffer any fracture but there was a ligament injury on his knee which would require further investigations. Ligament tears have various grades and it can take 2 to 6 months to regain complete fitness.&nbsp;

Dehradun: Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher on Saturday morning met Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, who is currently being treated at the Max Hospital, Dehradun following a car accident. Talking to the media, actor Anupam Kher said, "We came to know that Rishabh Pant is in the hospital, so I and Anil, as common citizens, came to see him. We met his mother and he is much better, his spirits are very high and the blessings of the whole of India are with him, so he will get well soon. We met his relatives, all is good, all is fine, we made them laugh. We went to meet him as fans. We as responsible citizens take that please drive carefully, especially here it is foggy at night. Wishing you all a very happy new year."
Anil Kapoor said, "He is in high spirits and he should be fine, we also met his mother and relatives, all are very good. Whoever is watching this I would like to appeal that, pray for him, so that he recovers soon and we will see him playing."
The wicketkeeper-batter narrowly escaped death after his high-end vehicle smashed into a road barrier and caught fire on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. According to reports, he had dozed off on the wheel.

Earlier, BCCI issued a statement saying, "Pant has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, and toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back. Rishabh's condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment, as per the BCCI statement shared with the media."
The Board said it will see to it that Pant receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase.
The wicket-keeper batsman has represented India in 33 Test matches, scoring 2271 runs at an average of 43.67. He has five Test tons against his name, with his highest being 159 not out. Rishabh Pant also has 119 catches and 14 stumpings against his name.
In ODIs, he has aggregated 865 runs to his name in 30 matches at an average of 34.60, with five half-centuries and a ton at a strike rate of 106.65. Behind the wickets, Pant has 26 catches and one stumping to his name in ODIs. In 66 T20Is, the wicket-keeper batter has scored 987 runs, with three half-centuries against his name at an average of 22.43 and a strike rate of 126.37.&nbsp;

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission has cancelled three recruitment examinations held in the state in 2021 as irregularities had surfaced, according to its chairman GS Martolia.
The three cancelled examinations are the graduate-level recruitment test held in May 2021 and those held for the recruitment of forest guards and secretariat security guards held in July 2021 and September 2021 respectively. Fresh examinations will now be held in March next year for the 1,282 posts in different categories, Martolia said. The UKSSSC took the decision after it was found that papers of these examinations were leaked and a large number of candidates appearing in them used unfair means, Martolia told reporters here on Friday. An ongoing investigation by an STF had detected paper leaks in these examinations earlier this year. It had even identified a large number of candidates who had used unfair means in the examinations. Only candidates who had appeared in these examinations will be allowed to take the fresh examinations likely to be held in the second week of March next year, he said. Candidates identified for using unfair means in the now-cancelled examinations will not be allowed to appear in the fresh examinations, he said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dehradun (The Hawk): The driver and conductor of a Haryana Roadways bus saved Indian wicket keeper Rishabh Pant when he was met with an accident early on Friday morning.
His speeding car struck the iron barrier at the roadside and then caught fire, according to the 14-second CCTV video of the collision that recently appeared online.
After the crash, the driver and conductor quickly dialled 112 for assistance.
The cops alerted Pant's mother and sent him to the hospital.
SSP Ajay Singh, who drove him to the hospital, stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Dehradun (The Hawk): In the Ankita Bhandari murder case, a 500-page charge sheet has been produced and will be given to the court on Monday.
According to the ADG of Law and Order, V. Murugashan, it took 90 days and 100 witnesses to compile the 500-page charge sheet.
Pulkit Arya, the son of expelled BJP leader Vinod Arya, is believed to have murdered Bhandari.
In the Pauri area of Uttarakhand, the victim, who was 19 years old, worked at a resort owned by the defendants.
The 18th of September, 2022, at approximately 8 p.m., the victim departed the murder scene with accused Pulkit Arya, resort manager Saurabh Bhaskar, and Ankit Arya, according to an investigation of the crime scene and interviews with resort employees.
After killing the victim and dumping her body in a canal, the accused confessed to the crime.
They were rigorously questioned.
In relation to the homicide, IPC sections 302, 201, and 120B were added, and the suspects were condemned to prison on September 23.
The body of the victim was retrieved from Chilla canal on September 24.
On September 24, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) directed by the Director General of Police for Law and Order, P. Renuka Devi, was established because the murder was a heinous crime perpetrated against a woman.
In accordance with section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the court recorded the testimony of a number of witnesses, as well as procuring expert medical reports and prosecution materials.
The accused have been charged with violating IPC sections 302, 201, 120B, and 354A, as well as the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act of 1956.
Police officials are also discussing a possible narcoanalysis of the suspect.

Dehradun / New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday seized a consignment of smuggled ammunition that was intended to be transported to Lucknow from the national capital.
The police have arrested six persons in the case, including two persons for transporting it, one gun house owner from Dehradun, one person each from Roorkee and Dehradun, and one consignment handler from Jaunpur.
"Six persons including two persons transporting the consignment, a gun house owner from Dehradun, one person each from Roorkee and Dehradun and one handler from Jaunpur were arrested," Vikramjit Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), Eastern Range, Delhi said in a press conference on the recovery of a large amount of ammunition days before the 75th Independence Day.
The ACP further informed that the consignment was intended for Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and said that it prima facie appeared as a part of some criminal network.
"This consignment was intended for Lucknow, UP. Prima facie, it appears to be a part of a criminal network," he added. However, no terror angle has been ruled out by the police, so far.
The police had recovered a huge quantity of ammunition-- which included as many as 2,000 live cartridges-- from two bags in Anand Vihar of Delhi.
DCP (East) Priyanka Sharma termed the recovery 'achievement of the police along with the civil societies under the 'Eyes and Ears scheme' of the Delhi Police.
She informed that the police acted on specific input from a rickshaw puller who nudged a constable in the staff about two suspicious persons carrying heavy bags.
"Acting on the information, we could nab the people, identified as Rashid alias Lallan (20) and Ajmal (20) of village Suetha Kalan in UP's Jaunpur and recovered 2,251 live cartridges from their possession.&nbsp;&nbsp;
According to an official statement from the police, the ACP of Madhu Vihar proceeded to Lucknow and Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh to nab the other members of the syndicate-- who were the receivers of the consignment.
The team raided several places and nabbed one of the proposed receivers namely Saddam was from Village Suetha Kalan in Jaunpur.
Meanwhile, another team was sent to Dehradun to find the source of the said illegal ammunition and after collecting inputs and scanning the CCTV footage at and around the locations where the consignment was allegedly exchanged, the police identified one Parikshit Negi who runs a gun house in Dehradun.
On sustained interrogation, Negi revealed that he had procured the ammunition from several Gun Houses in Uttarakhand as well as other sources, and after manipulating the records of his gun house, he used to supply the ammunition to the persons accused.
Negi further said that he was frequently involved in such illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition and had already supplied them to the same person 4-5 times in the past.
As per the version of accused Parikshit Negi, he had already supplied thousands of cartridges to the same syndicate at different places, the statement read.
During further investigation, three more members of the syndicate were identified and arrested by the teams of Delhi Police.&nbsp;

Dehradun: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday informed that Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft has been arranged to take the bodies of pilgrims killed in the bus accident in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district to Madhya Pradesh.The deceased pilgrims hailed from Madhya Pradesh's Panna district. Speaking with ANI, Chouhan said that the bodies will be sent to MP's Khajuraho from Uttarakhand's Dehradun after postmortem. Whereafter, teams of the Madhya Pradesh government will take them to four different villages in the state."We have asked for IAF aircraft to carry the bodies. The aircraft will arrive in Dehradun by 2 pm. The bodies will be sent to Khajuraho, our teams will be ready there and will take the bodies to four different villages," he said while adding that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has made the arrangements for IAF aircraft.Chouhan further informed that all the bodies were recovered last night, and their post mortem was done too. "Bodies will reach Dehradun at about 10 am today and will be sent to Khajuraho after embalming; will try that their cremation is done today," he added. The MP Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister and Home Minister for the continuous support from the Centre. Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured along with free treatment to the four critically injured including the driver. "Rs 5 lakh to the deceased's families, Rs 50,000 and free treatment to the four critically injured including the driver, who told us that accident happened after the steering wheel failed. The remaining three tourists are from MP, trying to save their lives," he said. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Shivraj Singh Chouhan have reached the site of the incident in Nainbagh and extended their condolences to Krishna Bihari Dwivedi, a relative of Ramsji and Banke Bihari, who died in the bus accident. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also sent the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team for rescue work."All bodies have been recovered and sent to Dehradun...After the process is complete we will send them...(bodies to Khajuraho, MP)," he added.Dhami has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. After the search and rescue operations concluded, the officials on Monday said that as many as 26 persons have been confirmed dead while four are critically injured. The bus carrying 30 people, including 28 pilgrims was on its way to Yamunotri Dham in Uttarkashi when it fell into a gorge. Members of Parliament Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal and Sh Naresh Bansal also attended the meeting.&nbsp;The Union Minister said that the aim of the Union Government is to achieve 100% saturation of government schemes in a true sense. He added that it means that district magistrates use their discretionary powers to ensure that no bonafide eligible beneficiary remains outside the cover of the scheme.Considering the frequent man-animal conflict in Uttarakhand, the Union Minister suggested to the district officials, a collaboration with the Council of Scientific &amp; Industrial Research to find ways to reduce animals venturing into habitated areas.&nbsp;Deliberating the implementation of the 'Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana', the Union Minister said that all banks should follow similar criteria while deciding on the eligibility of the applicant. While reviewing the construction under Gram Sadak Yojana, the Minister advocated taking into account the recent urbanisation of 'rural' areas and said that this means that higher standards of road construction should be adhered to. While discussing the hilly and often inaccessible nature of farming in Uttarakhand, the Union Minister recommended the greater use of drone technology in agriculture in collecting data, applying insecticide or conducting surveys.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Union Minister outlined the need for such outreach meetings by stating that this provides a useful tool to flag issues that our varied geography engenders. Dr Singh said that it is a priority for Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi that hilly and newly founded states like Uttarakhand are brought on the path of rapid development.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Roorkee / Dehradun (The Hawk): A ‘Kisan Chaupal’ was organized under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) Project at Jhabrawala village of Doiwala Block of Dehradun district under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Programme. Farmers were sensitized about the Agrometeorological Advisory Services in the ‘Chaupal’. Prof. Ashish Pandey, Nodal Officer, GKMS Project at IIT Roorkee said that Agromet Advisory Services are helpful to take decision to the farmers in their day-to-day field operations. He discussed in detail about the utility of these services in farm operations under changing climate scenario. Dr Satish Kumar Shastri, progressive farmer from Laksar Block and Hindi Lecturer at GIC Bhogpur addressed the program. He shared his experiences about the Agromet Advisory Services with farmers and urged farmers to follow these services for the benefits in their farming. Ravi Kiran Saini, Chairman, Bhu-Amrit FPO discussed about the benefits of natural farming and FPO. Gurvinder Singh, Director, Bhu-Amrti FPO and a progressive farmer apprised about the beneficial insects and pests for the crop. He said that farmers should not make hurry in the application of insecticide/pesticide unless it is necessary. Dr Arvind Kumar, Technical Officer, GKMS Project apprised the farmers that how they can join with these services. Rohit Giri, Agromet Observer and Sumit Vishwakarma, JRF, FASAL Scheme collected the feedback from farmers. Youth farmer Sukhwinder Singh created a WhatsApp group of Jhabrawala village and took responsibility to share the weather information voluntarily as a ‘Mausam Mitra’. The Chupal was also addressed by progressive farmers Om Prakash Kamboj and Pratap Singh. Dehradun: Snowfall and rain hit the Char Dham Yatra on Tuesday with thousands of pilgrims halted en route to Kedarnath and Yamunotri temples in the Garhwal Himalayas as a precautionary measure. Kedarnath began receiving snow early on Tuesday while the lower areas were lashed by rains prompting the authorities to stop the pilgrims for their safety in Gaurikund and Sonprayag.Pilgrims going to Yamunotri were also halted in Janakichatti, the last stopover on way to the famous shrine, as the weather turned worse in the afternoon.The peaks around Badrinath also received snow. Badkot subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Shalini Negi said Yamunotri-bound pilgrims were stopped in Janakichatti as a precautionary measure. They will be allowed to proceed on their onward journey after the weather clears, she said.Pilgrims halted on way to the shrine on Monday due to bad weather were permitted to go to the temple on Tuesday morning, she said, adding they have already returned after offering prayers there.Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit also said the pilgrims on way to Kedarnath were halted in Sonprayag and Gaurikund as the weather is bad and it is not safe for pilgrims to go beyond these points for the time being.Once the weather improves they will be allowed to visit the temple, he said. An unprecedented number of pilgrims are visiting the Himalayan temples this year with the Covid-induced restrictions no longer in place. More than nine lakh pilgrims have already paid obeisance at the Himalayan temples in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand since the start of the pilgrimage on May 3.—PTI

Dehradun: The Kedarnath yatra was suspended amid heavy rains on Monday with devotees en route to the shrine halted at various places between Gaurikund and Kedarnath, an official said.Conscious of the 2013 Kedarnath deluge tragedy, the Rudraprayag district administration appealed to pilgrims to stay put at their respective stations till the weather improves, he said.The Rudraprayag district magistrate said the people who had already worshipped at the Lord Shiva's temple in Kedarnath by Monday morning were stopped from undertaking their return journey.Similarly, the people readying themselves to proceed to Kedarnath from its base camp Gaurikund were stopped from undertaking the onward journey to the shrine, he said.The district administration is taking all possible precautions to ensure that no untoward incident takes place, he added.—PTI

Dehradun: With a rush of pilgrims for the Char Dham Yatra, the daily limit imposed on the number of people visiting each of the shrines -- Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri -- in Uttarakhand has been increased by 1,000 for the first 45 days of the yatra season.An earlier government order in this regard had been partially modified, increasing the limit to 16,000 for Badrinath, 13,000 for Kedarnath, 80,000 for Gangotri and 5,000 for Yamunotri, officials said on Wednesday.The daily limit for the Himalayan shrines, according to the previous order, was 15,000 for Badrinath, 12,000 for Kedarnath, 7,000 for Gangotri and 4,000 for Yamunotri.The decision has been taken on the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for the convenience of pilgrims whose number this year is unusually high with Covid-induced restrictions no longer in force, the officials said.The number of pilgrims visiting the revered temples had crossed the daily limit of 38,000 imposed by the earlier order.—PTI
