Gorakhpur, Sep 16 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress of adopting an "incompetent" and "careless" approach towards the law-and-order and healthcare infrastructure in the Gorakhpur district, during their tenures.
CM Yogi Adityanath was in the city for inauguration and foundation stone laying of various development projects and inauguration of 'Kalyan Mandapam'.
Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister said: "Today we all are witnessing the development that has been made possible with the change of those in power."
Emphasising on the importance of proper law-and-order, CM Adityanath said: "Will people be able to attend events if criminals roam freely on the streets? That is why after (BJP government) coming to power in 2017, we have ensured the safety of the public, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership."
"Today there is rule of law in Uttar Pradesh and the state is free of riots and curfews. Criminals are either in jail or have passed away. Now no one can openly threat anyone, kidnap any daughter or extort money from traders," he added.
He asserted that the required infrastructure has also been provided for safety purposes so that people can travel without any hesitation.
He also added: "The fertiliser factory that was shut down during the regimes of the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, has been made functional by the BJP's double-engine government."
"Due to the incompetence and careless approach of the previous governments, many children lost their lives to Encephalitis during this season. No Chief Minister or Cabinet Minister from the Samajwadi Party or the Congress came to meet any of the poor and affected people admitted at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. Back then, I had to undertake protests in my capacity as an MP," CM Adityanath said.
The Chief Minister stressed, saying: "When Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed me the responsibility of the Chief Minister, within two years, we abolished the disease that people have been suffering from since the past 40 years."
He asserted that today, Encephalitis, along with 'Mafias', "have been eradicated" from the state.
"Ramgarh Tal is today attracting people from across the country and the world, which used to be marred with garbage and crimes earlier. But this dirt and disease was not a part of Gorakhpur, in fact it was the result of the poor mindset of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party," CM Adityanath remarked.
Sharpening his attack against the SP, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said: "Earlier, whenever job vacancies were announced, SP syndicates used to roam around for extortion due to which youth were rendered jobless."
"Due to poor law-and-order, no proper work took place during the previous regime. The government then did not have a proper vision. There was anarchy as a result of their misgovernance... and the state was reduced to an identity crisis," he alleged.
"However, today Uttar Pradesh is contributing towards India's economic growth," CM Adityanath said while adding that more than 500 industries have been set up in Gorakhpur alone.
