New Delhi:&nbsp;Amid widespread anger and protest over Centre’s Agnipath scheme, the Indian Army on Monday issued notification for the first round of recruitment through the scheme.As per the notification, the registration for the recruitment rallies will start from July. “The registrations will be opened from July onwards by the respective Army Recruitment Offices (ARO) for Agniveer General Duty, Agniveer Technical, Agniveer Technical (aviation/ammunition examiner), Agniveer clerk/store keeper technical, Agniveer tradesman (10th pass) and Agniveer Tradesman (8th pass) as per the ARO rally schedule”, the Army notification reads.The notification released by the Indian Army broadly outlines terms and conditions of service, eligibility, discharge and other important information related to the scheme. “Agniveers enrolled under the scheme will not be eligible for any kind of Pension and Gratuity”, said the notification issued on Monday. The service of the ‘Agniveers’ will commence from the date of enrolment. They would form a distinct rank in the Army, different from other existing ranks, it said further. The personnel enrolled under this scheme will be required to undergo periodical medical checkups along with physical/written/field tests as per orders, said the notification.The notification has come on a day when several groups called ‘Bharat Bandh’. The national capital also witnessed traffic jams as the police have tightened security across the city and its bordering areas.—IANS

"Srinagar Authorities and Army (2RR) captured three hybrid terrorists from the outskirts of Srinagar together with a big consignment of weaponry and ammunition, comprising three AK rifles, two pistols, nine magazines, 200 rounds, and other incriminating documents," according to police.

Srinagar: The Army said on Sunday that a huge consignment of arms and ammunition was recovered during multiple searches in J&amp;K's Baramulla district.
Addressing a media conference at the headquarters of the Army's 19 infantry division in Baramulla town, GOC major general, Ajay Chandpuria, said that following multiple searches based on intelligence inputs from military intelligence and central agencies, a search operation was launched in the Masjid Nallah area of Hathlanga village close to the Line of Control (LoC) where a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.&nbsp;
"The area is very close to the LoC and there is a huge Nallah with large boulders. There is foliage and thick cuttings on both sides of the Nallah.
"There are houses in the area. Our operation was assisted by optical intelligence," the GOC said.
The search operation yielded recovery of heavy quantity of war-like stores, which included eight AK series rifles along with 24 magazines and 560 live rounds, 12 Chinese hand grenades along with 24 magazines and 244 live rounds, nine Chinese hand grenades and five Pakistani hand grenades.
Interestingly, the recovery also included 81 balloons with markings of "I love Pakistan" with Pakistani flag marked on them. Five gunny bags with Pakistani markings were also found.
SSP Baramulla, Rayees Muhammad Bhat said during the press briefing that this recovery is among the largest interception of war-like stories which has been executed close to the LoC in recent years.
"Balloons, which are typically sent more frequently to the Jammu side, have been sent to the Valley side for the first time. It perhaps points to a kind of attempt to instigate certain propaganda again," the SSP said.&nbsp;

Ranchi News: Five Maoists, including a commander carrying a reward of Rs 25 lakh, were killed in an encounter in the Lawalong police station area in Jharkhand's Chatra district on Monday.

The slain Maoist commander has been identified as Gautam Paswan.

Police are conducting extensive search operations in the area after recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition, including several AK-47 and INSAS rifles.

Confirming the incident, SP Rakesh Ranjan said that the number of Maoists killed could be more and complete information will be revealed after the search operation concludes.

According to sources, Chatra district police and paramilitary troops were conducting a search operation in the forests of the area adjoining Palamu district when the Maoists ambushed the security forces.

The security forces retaliated and the crossfire continued for at least three hours. While five deaths have been confirmed, some Maoists managed to escape.

Locals identified the eliminated extremists as Ajit Oraon aka Charlies, Amar Ganjhu aka Dhiru, Ajay Yadav aka Nandu, Sanjit Bhuiyan aka Sagar and Gautam Paswan.

Squads of CRPF CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and police from Palamu and Chatra were involved in the operation. IANS

Jammu: The security forces recovered a Pakistani drone with arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

A Defence ministry spokesman said in a statement on Thursday, "On the intervening night of 12-13 April 2023, the alert troops of Indian Army in coordination with J&amp;K Police recovered a Drone crossing the Line of Control (LoC) from Pakistan into Indian territory in Beri Pattan area of Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district."

The spokesman said that 131 rounds of AK-47, five magazines and Rs two Lakh in cash was also recovered.

"The search operations are currently under progress," said the ministry official. IANS

Imphal: At least 175 people were killed, 1108 others injured and 32 were missing in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the state four months ago, Inspector General of Police (Operations) I.K. Muivaa said here on Friday.
The official said that 4,786 houses were set on fire and 386 religious structures were destroyed or vandalised.
IGP Muivah said that of the 386 religious structures destroyed or vandalised, 254 are churches and 132 temples.
Of the weapons that have been “lost”, 1359 firearms and 15,050 various types of ammunition were recovered, the IGP told the media.
Various reports, political parties claimed that during the ethnic riots, which broke out on May 3, over 4,000 different types of sophisticated arms and lakhs of different kinds of ammunition were looted from the police stations and police outposts by the mobs, attackers and militants.
Reassuring the people of Manipur, the IPS officer said that the police, central forces and the civil administration are trying round the clock to bring normalcy.
“Security barricades from Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district to Kangvai in Churachandpur district have been removed while security has been provided on the national highways,” he stated.
The police official claimed that the latest action of the state force would go down well with the public which had wanted the security barricades removed and the internally displaced allowed to return to their places of origin.
He said that since the ethnic violence broke out on May 3, as many as 5,172 arson cases were reported with 4,786 houses set on fire.
Inspector General of Police (administration) K. Jayanta said that of the 175 people who died, nine are still unidentified.
He said, 79 of the bodies have been claimed while 96 remain unclaimed.
Jayanta said that 28 bodies were kept at the Regional Institute of Medical Science, 26 bodies in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences and 42 bodies at the Churachandpur district hospital.
He said that 9,332 cases have been registered in connection with the violence and breaching of law and order and 325 people were arrested from across the state.
Inspector General of Police (Zone-3) Nishit Ujjwal said that Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2) and Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) are functioning normally.
The ethnic violence between the non-tribals Meiteis and tribal Kukis broke out in the northeastern state after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Jalpaiguri (West Bengal): A seven-year-old child died and five others were injured after a mortar shell exploded in the Chhapadanga area of Jalpaiguri district, police said. The incident took place barely hours after the Sikkim government issued an advisory urging people not to pick up any explosives or ammunition found in the Teesta basin.
According to police, the shell exploded at Chhapadanga in the Kranti block of Jalpaiguri district on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as 7-year-old Sahinur Alam. Sharing details of the incident, a police officer said, "A few children had gone to collect firewood near the Teesta River when they came upon a mortar shell floating in the waters. They picked it up and brought it home. It is believed that the shell belonged to the Indian Army and got swept away by the river after the cloudburst on Wednesday night." "The five injured persons in the incident were shifted to the Jalpaiguri Hospital and North Bengal Hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment," the officer informed. Further details are awaited. The Sikkim government had earlier warned people that explosives and ammunition may be found along the banks of the Teesta River after an ammunition depot of the army in north Sikkim was affected by the flash floods. "The local population is hereby warned that explosives or ammunition may be found along the Teesta basin. These ammunitions should not be handled or picked up since they may explode and cause grievous injuries," read an advisory issued by the state land revenue and disaster management department on Thursday. Earlier, on Friday, the State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that at least 19 people, including six army personnel, have perished in the flash floods in Sikkim. The search for the missing people is ongoing in areas downstream of Teesta River. Efforts are also underway to locate 16 missing soldiers in Sikkim, officials informed. Sikkim Chief Secretary Vijay Bhushan Pathak informed on Friday, "As per the checkpost data available, around 3,000 people are stranded in Lachen and Lachung. They include 700-800 drivers and about 150 people, who had visited these places on two-wheelers. We are in the process of evacuating all stranded people using choppers of the Army and the Indian Air Force." South Lhonak Lake, situated in North West Sikkim, experienced a cloudburst and rainfall, triggering flash floods on Wednesday morning. The flash floods gobbled up the Indreni bridge in Singtam town, some 30 kilometers from Gangtok, the district administration in Gangtok informed. Another connecting bridge of Balutar hamlet was also swept away around 4 am.

Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Ammunition Manufacturing Complex of Adani Group in Kanpur on Monday and said that the state's defence industrial corridors are contributing to India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing. According to an official release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Chief Minister Yogi said, "Today, all six nodes of the state's defence industrial corridors are actively contributing to India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing." Reflecting on the significant transformation in the state, Chief Minister Yogi also said that before 2017, 'tamanchas' were brandished in UP. The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating the Ammunition Manufacturing Complex of Adani Group in the Defence Corridor located in Sadh. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the country's Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pandey. Karan Adani, CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited welcomed the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, presenting him with a bouquet and an 'angvastra'. Earlier, the Chief Minister inspected the Ammunition Manufacturing Complex. Describing the moment as 'joyful', Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "When we organized our first Investors Summit in 2018, Prime Minister Modi announced two defence manufacturing corridors in the country. 'UP Contributing To India Becoming Self-Reliant In Defence Manufacturing': CM Yogi

A huge blast at Iraq's Kalso military base used by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Saturday was the result of an explosion in ammunition and rocket storage, state media reported on Tuesday citing the investigators' report.
No warplanes or drones were spotted in the sky above Iraq's Babil province at the time of the explosion, according to the final report of the Iraqi military technical committee which investigated the explosion.  The blast killed a member of the PMF security force that includes Iran-backed groups.
Highly explosive material used in manufacturing ammunition was identified and the remnants of rockets were found 150 meters away from the explosion site, the report said.  State media did not say explicitly whether the explosion was believed to be an accident.  The blast occurred nearly a week after Iran fired a barrage of missiles and drones at Israel in response to a presumed Israeli airstrike that destroyed part of Iran's embassy in Damascus on April 1, killing seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards officers.  The PMF includes Iran-backed groups which, operating under the banner of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, have attacked US troops in the region and targeted Israel since the eruption of the Gaza war, declaring support for the Palestinians.
