Guwahati: Indian Air Force on Sunday continued its relief efforts in flood-affected areas of Assam with the help of airlift rescue teams (choppers) and provided relief materials to the people. "#FloodReliefInAssam Efforts are continuing to evacuate citizens and airlift rescue teams and relief material to areas cut off due to floods in Assam. #IAF has deployed its transport aircraft and helicopters for the task," IAF tweeted. The IAF deployed An-32 transport aircraft, two Mi-17 helicopters, a Chinook helicopter and a ALH Dhruv and evacuated 119 passengers stranded at Ditokchera railway station with the help of Mi-17 helicopters on Saturday.It had positioned 20 NDRF personnel in the flood-affected areas while working closely with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the state government. According to reports of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 499 relief camps and 519 relief distribution centres are opened in all affected areas, in which a total of 92,124 inmates are currently staying in the camps. The ASDMA reports also suggested that a total of 8,39,691 people from 3,246 villages in 32 districts have been affected by the flood, of which six have been affected by landslides in Assam.As per the data, there has been a loss of 14 human lives (9 in Flood and 5 in Landslide) in the first phase of the flood and 100,732.43 hectares of cropland have also been affected by the natural calamity in the state. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already predicted a wet spell over Northwest and East India from May 21 to May 24 with its peak intensity on Monday (May 23).—ANI

Guwahati: The situation in Assam, where the pre-monsoon floods have affected large parts of the state for the past 12 days, continue to improve for the third day on Tuesday but still 5.80 lakh people in 18 districts affected and with two more deaths during the past 24 hours, the overall death toll has risen to 27.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted more rains in the next few days in the northeastern states including Assam. Officials of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that at least 5,80,145 people, including 1,15,208 children, of 1,374 villages have been affected in 18 of the state’s 34 districts.Of the 27 deaths, 21 died in floods and remaining in landslides in different districts. An ASDMA release said that 64,098 hectares crop areas remained affected in flood-hit areas. In all, 81,712 people are staying in the 346 relief camps, while the district administrations have also opened 182 relief distribution centres in all the affected areas.Of the 18 flood affected districts, the worst-hit were three – 3,46,291 people were affected in Nagaon alone followed by 1,77,954 people in Cachar and 40,941 in Morigaon district. The Army, the Assam Rifles, the National Disaster Response Force, and the State Disaster Response Force, along with the district administrations, continue to work round the clock to rescue the stranded people and to provide relief to the marooned men, women and children. The water of Kopili river was flowing above the danger level in several places. The ASDMA release said that various food items, cooking oil and diesel have been air transported in the remote areas on Tuesday.Officials said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited landslide areas at Sarkari Bagan in Haflong which witnessed heavy mudslides triggered by incessant rain on Tuesday. He also visited relief camps and interacted with the camp inmates at Lower Haflong.He also visited the homes of those persons killed in landslides at Hokai Pungchi Village in Haflong. Sarma, in a meeting at Haflong Circuit House, reviewed the situation and took stock of the extent of damages caused by rain-induced landslides in the mountainous Dima Hasao district. Several Ministers, including Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, and Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, are camping in the flood-ravaged areas to supervise the rescue and relief operations.The situation in the hill section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Dima Hasao district remained serious on Tuesday as inclement weather continued to batter the area, affecting the Lumding-Badarpur single line railway route, which connects Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and the southern part of Assam with the rest of the country. According to NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Sabyasachi De, in the Lumding Division, train services have been either cancelled till June end.—IANS

On their return they got stuck on the other side of the river as the water level of the river suddenly rose to a great extent," said the officials.Upon receiving information, a rescue team under the leadership of Inspector Karan Singh from SDRF Post Sonprayag was dispatched to the spot.The SDRF team reached the spot and acted swiftly to rescue the youth by using a life buoy, life jacket and rope, the police added.Earlier this week, five injured women of Uttarkashi were airlifted and admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh."Five women who went to the forest in Naugaon of Uttarkashi district were buried under debris due to mudslide, when the information of this incident reached the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he without delay, sent his government helicopter to Uttarkashi," the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's office stated on Thursday.The injured women have been airlifted from this helicopter and admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh.Of the five women, one woman who died succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, while the others are being treated at AIIMS.The Chief Minister has wished for a speedy recovery of the injured. —ANI

According to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), all the passengers travelling in the bus are residents of Maharashtra and were coming to Haridwar from Kedarnath. On receiving the information, a rescue team from SDRF Post Kaudiyala immediately reached the spot."The bus carrying passengers going from Kedarnath to Haridwar crashed after overturning near Kodiala," said SDRF Inspector Kavindra Sajwan."There were 31 passengers and two children in the bus, 21 injured passengers were taken to Rishikesh by private vehicle, 12 persons are general injured who are being given first aid at the spot," he added.All the passengers are residents of Maharashtra.&nbsp;—ANI

Dehradun: SDRF rushed a team to a resort in Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand's Mohanchatti after they received inputs of a family trapped amid heavy rains in the state, informed an SDRF spokesperson.
"The resort is very close to a hill and the water of the rainy drain is also increasing continuously, due to which there is an estimate of the hill's cracking. All connectivity has been broken, we are feeling extremely threatened," the spokesperson said.
Upon receiving the information, the rescue team has immediately reached the spot and the rescue work is currently underway, the spokesperson added.
"Rescue work is going on by SDRF, which reached the information of some people being trapped in Aranyam Resort in Mohanchatti of Pauri Garhwal district. People are being rescued from the middle of the strong flow of water," informed the SDRF.
Meanwhile, the state is experiencing severe rainfall and landslides.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday visited some disaster-prone areas near Dehradun and also took stock of the overall situation arising due to heavy rainfall and inclement weather. He directed the officers to trace the missing people, and rescue those trapped on the roads, besides providing food, drinking water and medical facilities to the affected. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, Wadia Institute and Hesco along with their team also inspected the disaster-prone areas. The Chief Minister directed that the supply of essential commodities like food grains, medicines, fuel etc. should be checked once again. Continuous coordination should be maintained with the mobile operator companies so that there is no problem in the communication network. —ANI

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has urged the Central government for an airport at Chaukhatia near Bharadisen of the state, State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami informed.
His remarks came during a conversation with ANI after the 23rd Central Zonal Council Meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Bhopal concluded.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for increasing the capacity of Dehradun airport. "Apart from the expansion of Pantnagar and Pithoragarh airports in the state, the airport is to be expanded at Gauchar and Chinyalisaud so that Chardham Yatra can be facilitated," he said.
The Chief Minister has also requested cooperation in Uttarakhand for a strong weather forecasting system and infrastructure with Doppler radar.
In the meeting, CM Dhami also said that Him Prahari Yojana is proposed to be implemented in the snow-covered areas of the marginal districts of the State. Information, relief and rescue work, border security training, awareness, and self-defence training will be done by the Him Prahari team at the time of divine calamities and requested the Centre for financial assistance for this.
Further talking about the recent conditions of the calamity in the state, Dhami said, "the relief work is underway" and assured that he himself was monitoring it.
He said that the teams of Wadia Institute and a non-government organization Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO) are also assessing the disaster. He also said that the administration of public representatives are making arrangements in the respective area and said, "We are trying our best that rescue and relief work gets completed as soon as possible."
The state has been experiencing severe rainfall and landslides for the past few days.

Due to the flood in the Kali river in Dharchula last night, there has been a lot of damage in Dharchula and its adjoining areas. Many houses have been washed away, and some houses are severally affected due to floods. A building was also collapsed and got submerged in water owing to a strong current in the river this morning.
The DM said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams are engaged in the relief work on the spot.
The damage caused by the floods in the Kali river has occurred in the villages of both India and Nepal.&nbsp;

Earlier on August 20, a similar incident of cloud burst in Dehradun had intense repercussions as reports of heavy water flow damaging various roads came to the fore.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami then inspected the affected areas in Sarkhet village in Dehradun's Raipur. The water washed out multiple properties and entered several buildings disrupting the everyday lives of the commoners.
Dhami ordered the State Disaster Management Department and other administration officials to be on alert regarding the devastation following heavy rainfall in the Garhwal division including Dehradun.
The Chief Minister also directed all the concerned departments to reach the affected areas.

Dehradun: One person died while another was rescued after two people from a group of 10 who had gone on the Kedarnath-Ransi trek were stuck on the track, according to an official on Monday.
The 10-member team was from West Bengal and had gone on the trek. Two of them were stuck due to severe health conditions, while the other eight people along with porters informed about them on their return. On receipt of the information, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescue team immediately rushed to the spot with the necessary rescue equipment.
A search operation was conducted on the said track by the rescue team. Both tourists were found amidst the icy rocks near Mahapanth, 6 km from Kedarnath while conducting extensive searches on foot in the high-altitude area in extreme conditions.
One of the two tourists had died while the other was in poor health. After giving first aid to the sick person by the SDRF team personnel, he was immediately rescued and admitted to the hospital after reaching Kedarnath. "One dead, another rescued after two people from a group of 10 who had gone on the Kedarnath-Ransi trek were stuck on track due to health issues. Tourists were found almost 6 km from Kedarnath, under heavy snowfall and harsh conditions," said the SDRF spokesperson.
Meanwhile, five more bodies were airlifted to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp in Uttarkashi's Matli on Monday from Droupadi's Danda II mountain peak which was hit by a huge avalanche on the morning of October 4.
According to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), as many as 29 persons including two instructors and 27 trainees went missing when the avalanche hit Draupadi ka Danda mountain peak in Uttarakhand. Mountaineers from the NIM participating in a training course were trapped in a glacier crevice on Tuesday morning after an avalanche hit the peak. The team was returning after summiting.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lucknow: The 30-year-old advocate from Lucknow, who jumped into the Gomti river, remains untraced so far.The State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) teams searched the body till late Thursday evening but failed to find it.
The man was identified as Nasir Mansoor, a resident of Vibhuti Khand, and an advocate practicing in the High Court. His family was clueless as to why he took such a step as he was to get married next month.
Station House Officer (SHO) Gomti Nagar, Dinesh Chandra Mishra said that the police got a call informing that a man jumped in the river from the bridge near riverfront and scores of commuters had gathered at the spot, leading to a massive traffic jam.
"When we reached the spot, witnesses informed us that a man in white shirt and black trousers parked his vehicle on the side of the bridge and jumped into the river. From the bike's registration number, we traced the man's address and informed his family. Simultaneously, SDRF teams started a search operation," he said.
Mishra said that police showed Mansoor's photograph to witnesses who said that appearance matched with the one who jumped into the river.
Mansoor's mobile phone has been switched off since then and his family informed that he did not know how to swim.
Meanwhile, a friend of the advocate who did not wish to be named, said that Mansoor had been very upset because his social media account had been hacked and his post were being made public.

The two — Vansh Kaushal, a resident of Delhi’s Prashant Vihar area, and Kumar Gaurav, a resident of Chhatarpur area, got down into the Ganga after rafting at Neem Beach area and were swept away by the strong current on Saturday, the police said.
After receiving information about the incident, a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation. Divers were also pressed into service but the two men could not be traced, they said. The families of the two men have been informed about the incident, the police said. —PTI

Dehradun: Five trekkers stranded in the forest of the Koti slope in Uttarakhand were rescued by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel late on Monday night.
The SDRF team rescued them late at night after an intensive search operation.
"The SDRF was informed by Disaster Control Room (DCR) Dehradun that five people who had gone trekking in Koti Dhulhi-Bhadraraj under Sahaspur Police Station, lost their way somewhere in the forest. By running an intensive search operation by SDRF Rescue Team and District Police, after hard efforts, five people were found safe late at night," said SDRF Spokesperson.
Later, all the trekkers were safely taken to Sahaspur police station.
Earlier in October, 41 trainees and instructors of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering were hit by an avalanche near the Dokrani Bamak glacier when they were returning from high-altitude navigation from Mount Draupadi ka Danda-2 peak (5,670 m).

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inspected a bridge being built on the Saung river that was affected by the disaster in October 2022.
He also inspected the roads and pillars damaged by the disaster in Khairi Mansingh of the Dehradun district, officials said.
In August 2022, a cloudburst occurred in Raipur block in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand.
The cloudburst was reported by locals in Sarkhet village in Raipur block following which State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team rushed to the spot after getting information.
"All the people stuck in the village were rescued while some took shelter in a resort nearby," SDRF had said then.
Meanwhile, on March 15, the Uttarakhand government proposed a monetary allocation worth Rs 1,000 crore for any rescue operations in Joshimath and other land subsistence-prone areas.
The Uttarakhand government has sought an economic package of Rs 2000 crore from the central government for subsidence-affected areas in Joshimath and rehabilitation of the affected people, Secretary to Chief Minister R Meenakshi Sundaram had said.
Earlier on January 28, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) informed that the number of buildings with cracks has not increased and till now 863 buildings with cracks have been noticed due to the disaster.
Hundreds of residents were shifted to relief centres in safe places after cracks appeared at several homes in Joshimath, suggesting subsidence.
The Uttarakhand government has already announced relief packages worth crores for the affected families of Joshimath. In January, Chief Minister Dhami said that the relief package has been released for nearly 3,000 families affected by gradual land subsidence in the Himalayan state. —ANI

Dehradun: Two girls have been killed in a fire in a building in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district while a search is underway for two others, officials said on Friday, putting the age of the children between two and a half years and 12 years.
Two families were living in the 3-4 storey building, largely made of wood, Dehradun District Magistrate (DM) Sonika told PTI.
The adult members of the families escaped to safety but the girls were left behind, she said, adding that it is suspected that the fire broke out after a cooking gas cylinder exploded.
Charred bodies of two girls have been recovered, while the search for the other two is being carried out by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, the DM said.
She said a magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident at Chakrata’s Tyuni area.
The chances of survival of the two girls is very slim, Sub Divisional Magistrate Chakrata Yukta Mishra said. It was a massive fire and it took fire-fighters more than five hours to extinguish it, she said. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rudraprayag: The registration of pilgrims for the Kedarnath yatra has been stopped till May 8, due to the possibility of bad weather in Kedarghati for the next three to four days, the officials said on Friday. "Registration for the visit to Kedarnath Dham will be banned till May 8. There is a possibility of bad weather in Kedarghati for the next three to four days. In view of this, the government has taken this decision," stated an official release. According to the records of the tourism department, 1.26 lakh pilgrims have already registered for the yatra on May 10. Till May 4, 1.23 lakh devotees had visited Kedarnath Dham. As per an official release, the Kedarnath Dham Yatra route which was closed on Thursday after a fragment of a glacier broke at Bhairon in the afternoon has been made smooth for the pilgrims travelling on foot. "The personnel of DDMA, SDRF, DDRF, NDRF, YMF and police have done the work of removing snow from a glacier and the Kedarnath Yatra route has been made smooth for the pilgrims travelling on foot. The travel route for horses and mules has not been opened yet, the snow removal work is being done by the labourers at a fast pace," read the release. The route between Bhairav and Kuber Gadere was closed after a glacier broke in the region. SDRF, DDRF, NDRF and police personnel are deployed on the glaciers for the safety of the passengers and to help them cross the glacier so that no unusual incident takes place. District Magistrate Mayur Dixit encouraged the SDRF, DDRF, NDRF, YMF, police personnel and officers and employees to engage in travel arrangements for the safety of workers. According to the release, he instructed the DDRF, SDRF, NDRF and police personnel deployed on the glaciers on the Yatra route to take special care of their own safety and the safety of the pilgrims. Dehradun: As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government completes nine years on May 30, the Bharatiya Janata Party has planned a "Vikas Teerth Program" across Uttarakhand at Lok Sabha constituency level from June 10 to 12, said a party source.
Under this party's campaign in the state, tiffin meetings will be held at the developmental project sites detailing about the ongoing projects. During the campaign, BJP will highlight the ongoing dream projects of PM Modi across the state.
On the other hand, in the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh as well the BJP plans something similar and will start a massive 'Mahajanajagaran campaign' across the state on May 30.
Bharatiya Janata Party's State General Secretary (Organization) Dharampal Singh said that through public relations campaign, the achievements of the Central Government have to be reached the doorstep of every household.
"In the recently concluded civic body elections, there were historic results in favour of the BJP in the entire state. The credit for this goes to the people of the state and the loyal workers of the party," Singh said.
He further said that public meetings will be organized at the Lok Sabha level from May 30 to June 30 under the Maha Sampark Abhiyan organized on the completion of 9 years of the central government.
"Businessmen conferences will also be organized under the campaign," he added. He further said that a senior workers' meeting will be organized in which MPs, MLAs, national office bearers, former office bearers, and state office bearers up to the divisional level will hold a meeting with Tiffin.
"A joint conference of all the seven fronts will also be organized. Along with this, a conference of the beneficiaries of the central and state government has also been planned at the assembly level. Beneficiaries will be invited to this. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the Yoga Day program is also to be organized at every Shakti Kendra on June 21," he detailed.
A mass contact campaign will be launched by the organization at the booth level under which public representatives and senior leaders are going to do door-to-door public relations and distribute leaflets of historical achievements of the central and state government.
"For the success of the Mahasampark Abhiyan, before May 30, a complete road map has to be prepared for planning and implementation of the plan. For this, district working committee meetings have to be organized in each district on 20 and 21 May and divisional working committee meetings on 22, 23 and 24 May," he said. —ANI
