Chandigarh: Opposition parties in Punjab slammed the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday over reports that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had summoned senior officials from the state for a meeting in the capital.While Congress legislative party leader Partap Singh Bajwa claimed that people of the state did not vote for the government which was to be "remote controlled" from Delhi, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal dubbed "Kejriwal's meeting" as "unconstitutional and unacceptable".The opposition party leaders were referring to some reports which said Kejriwal held a meeting with Punjab chief secretary, secretary (power) and chairman of the state power utility on Monday in Delhi over the electricity-related issue and chief minister Bhagwant Mann was not present in it.When asked about the meeting, Punjab transport minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Tuesday said Kejriwal is the party's national convener and even if he has held a meeting, then it should not be a big issue. AAP spokesperson in Punjab Malwinder Kang, "People come from far and wide to see the Kejriwal model of governance. Jammu: With terror groups misusing Aadhaar to camouflage the identity of their Pakistani cadres, the Jammu and Kashmir police will request the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to strengthen safety features of the biometric ID, officials have said.The police force will also pitch for devising a mechanism for getting real-time information on an Aadhaar card being misused by terrorists.The misuse of the biometric ID came to light following the recent killing of two Pakistani terrorists in Bishembhar Nagar, adjacent to the Dal Lake, in Srinagar.The terrorists, who had been involved in the killing of CRPF jawans earlier this month, were identified as Mohammed Bhai alias Abu Qasim, who had been active in Kashmir Valley since 2019, and Abu Arsalan alias Khalid, who was present since 2021.However, the recoveries from the encounter site included two Aadhaar cards bearing an address in Jammu.Subsequently, the police carried out a thorough search and found that the Aadhaar numbers were genuine but the cards had their passport-sized pictures superimposed on them, an official said. A genuine Aadhaar card contains a picture clicked on webcam, he added.Such camouflaging attempts by the Pakistan-based terror groups and their masters in the ISI are aimed at painting the terrorism in Kashmir Valley as an indigenous movement, the officials said.Alarmed by the blatant misuse of Aadhaar cards, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has decided to write to UIDAI requesting it to include more safety features, the officials said.Privacy guidelines of Aadhaar are very stringent, thereby preventing the law enforcement agencies from verifying any particular card. A basic check can only provide the age bracket of the card holder without revealing the exact identity. The police will also cite the case of Mohammed Ismal Alvi alias Lambu, one of the masterminds of the 2019 attack on the CRPF convoy that left 40 personnel dead. A forged Aadhaar card was also recovered from the site of the encounter in which he was killed.Several forged Aadhaar cards have also been found from various hideouts of terror groups in the past few months, the officials said.—PTI

Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday said the process of setting up a single planning authority for Mumbai is underway.Speaking at an international conference "Climate crisis 2.0: Mobilising Finance for Coastal Cities", the state minister for environment and tourism said a single planning agency for the city will provide ease of administration for the state government and ease of living for citizens."In a city like Mumbai, 16 agencies should come together with a single authority. Implementing agencies can be different, but if there is a single planning authority, there will be less trouble," said Thackeray, who was a chief guest at the conference.At present, there are 16 different agencies in the city that handle 42 utilities, making things difficult, he said."Even for constructing a footpath in Mumbai, we need to work with 16 agencies, planning and permission authorities," Thackeray said, adding that it is tough while coordinating with all these agencies.He further said that instead of appointing a CEO for the city, the government is thinking of giving more power to mayors for the effective implementation of the plan.Mumbai First founder Narinder Nayar in his welcome address had proposed a CEO or administrator for Mumbai.Highlighting the need for climate action, the minister said the biggest problem or challenge at present is climate change and the biggest hope is climate action."I firmly believe that climate action is no longer just the job for environmentalists. It's not just the work of the forest ministry. New Delhi: The government has withdrawn a UIDAI advisory that cautioned the general public against sharing photocopies of their Aadhaar with any organization. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) said it is withdrawing the press release as it can lead to misinterpretation. ''The release advised the people not to share photocopies of their Aadhaar with any organization because it can be misused. Alternatively, a masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number, can be used.''However, given the possibility of the misinterpretation of the Press Release, the same stands withdrawn with immediate effect,'' the statement said.A press release issued by the Bengaluru Regional Office of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) asked the general public not to share photocopy of one's Aadhaar with any organization because it can be misused. Alternatively, a masked Aadhaar that displays only the last 4 digits of the biometric ID can be used for the purpose, it had added. MeitY, in the withdrawal statement, said the UIDAI-issued Aadhaar cardholders are only advised to exercise normal prudence in using and sharing their Aadhaar numbers. ''Aadhaar Identity Authentication ecosystem has provided adequate features for protecting and safeguarding the identity and privacy of the Aadhaar holder,'' the statement added.—PTI

New Delhi: Indian Railways on Monday said it has decided to double the number of online tickets that can be booked per user ID through the IRCTC website and app. To facilitate passengers, Indian Railways has decided to increase the limit of booking a maximum of six tickets in a month to 12 tickets by a user ID, which is not Aadhaar linked.For the user ID which is Aadhaar linked, the limit for booking the number of tickets per user ID has been increased to 24 tickets in a month from the earlier 12 tickets in a month. The condition for this category is that the user ID should be Aadhaar linked and one of the passengers on the ticket to be booked should be verifiable through Aadhaar. At present, maximum of six tickets in a month can be booked online on the IRCTC website/app by a user ID, which is not Aadhaar linked and maximum 12 tickets in a month can be booked by a user ID which is Aadhaar linked and that one of the passengers in the ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Railways.—ANI

New Delhi (The Hawk): A child's Aadhaar card is not mandatory for availing the benefits under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme of the Anganwadi Services Scheme. The benefits under the scheme can be accessed using the mother's Aadhaar card. Anganwadi Services scheme is being digitized by the Ministry through the POSHAN Tracker App to enable the Ministry to identify the beneficiaries as part of the programme as a whole and to ensure uninterrupted supply of nutrition to the children, Pregnant Women and Lactating mothers and adolescents girl beneficiaries, who move within the State or outside the state due to any reason. A migration module for shifting from one AWC to another has been provided in POSHAN Tracker to facilitate nutrition to migrant beneficiaries.So far approximately 10.63 crore beneficiaries have been registered under the scheme as per Poshan Tracker and approximately 53% have been Aadhar verified covering around 5.61 crore beneficiaries. However, all beneficiaries registered are benefited under the Scheme.

New Delhi: With an eye on 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday formally unveiled his Aam Aadmi Party's national ambition with the launch of 'Make India No 1' campaign, saying the country cannot be left to those who have been ruling till now if it has to be developed.
At an event organised at Talkatora stadium here, he proposed a five-point vision for good governance and said he would travel across the country to rally support for the cause.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor termed the campaign a "national mission" and appealed to the masses to join it to realise the long-cherished dream of India becoming the best in the world and figuring in the list of the developed countries.
He said those from the BJP, Congress and any other political party can also join it as it is apolitical in nature, even as he blamed the parties in power, without taking names, for the slow progress of India since Independence.
In the past 75 years, they did nothing other than filling their homes and that of their friends with wealth, he charged.
"If we leave this country with these parties and leaders, we will go back by another seventy-five years. Some of them (leaders) live for their family while others for friends. Someone has to indulge in corruption while some others have to plunder the country," he said.
In his address, Kejriwal said to make India number one in the world, public funds will have to be utilised in ensuring free and quality education for every child, free and good medical treatment for every citizen, employment for youth, equal rights and dignity to women and fair price to farmers for their produce.
Riding high on its stupendous victory in Punjab polls, the AAP has reorganised and activated its units in most of the states seeking to expand its foothold.
The party, which has launched a membership drive across the country, is preparing to contest the assembly elections to be held in the next two years, with a focus on the upcoming polls in BJP-ruled Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
Though the AAP failed to make an impact in Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarkhand in the last round of assembly polls, it has been projecting itself as the next principal opponent to the BJP in many states after the weakening of the Congress.
The AAP national convenor said he will travel across the country as part of the mission -- 'Make India No.1' -- to encourage people to join the initiative and contribute in realising its objectives.
"To make India number one in the world, the first thing that we have to do is provide free and quality education to every child of this country. We will have to open schools in every nook and corner of this country to ensure no child is left without education," he said.
After getting educated, every child would make their family rich from poor and then India will be listed in the list of rich countries, he added.
To make India number one in the world objective, the second measure that we will have to take is to provide free and best medical treatment along with free medicines and test facilities to every citizen of the country, he said.
"Third, we will have to provide employment to every youth which is possible with the right intention and management. Fourth, every woman should get respect, equal rights and security. Fifth, we will have to ensure farmers get fair prices for their produce and get respect so that children can say with pride that they also want to become farmers," Kejriwal added.
"I appeal to 130 people of this country to join this national mission and make India number one," he added.
Kejriwal said India achieved many milestones in the last 75 years since Independence, but many countries like Singapore, which got independence after India, managed to leave India behind in terms of development.
"Why are we still lagging despite Indians being the most intelligent and hardworking people in the world? He asked, adding, "God has given everything to India, rivers, mountains, herbs, crops, sea, yet we are lagging behind others," Kejriwal said India can lead the world but it is possible when 130 crore people of this country come together and join the 'Make India No 1' national mission.
"This is not the mission of a political party, it's a national mission. Hence, I call upon those from the BJP, Congress and all other parties to come forward and join this initiative to make India the number one country in the world," Kejriwal said.
In BJP-ruled Gujarat, the Kejriwal-led party is hoping to win a sizeable number of seats as the Congress appears to be in disarray and AAP sources claimed they have developed a strong base in the state, especially Saurashtra region.&nbsp;

Chandigarh: Amid allegations of BJP attempting to bring down the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, the AAP on Wednesday said it has filed a formal complaint along with all proofs to Director General of Punjab Gaurav Yadav for a fair probe into threats and money offers to its legislators.
It lashed out at the saffron party, calling it a “serial killer” of democracy and condemned “Operation Lotus” for the “dubious manner” in which elected governments in the country are being brought down.
State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema told media that the BJP has “murdered democracy” by toppling elected governments in various states after “using” central investigation agencies and through money lures.
It tried the same in Punjab, but the staunch soldiers of AAP foiled the BJP’s “nefarious agenda”.
He alleged BJP agents and workers from Delhi and Punjab have “tried to break” 35 MLAs of AAP to topple the government in Punjab.
Cheema said a complaint against BJP leaders and agents has been submitted before the DGP for “offering Rs 25 crore each to at least 10 MLAs in the state and also giving life threat to Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural and others for exposing their wicked agendas before the public”.
Stating that the BJP is baffled with “growing popularity” of AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal, he said the BJP is now afraid of Kejriwal and is trying to stop him by any means.
“The work of horse-trading adopted by the BJP has been going on in different states of the country. The BJP under its Operation Lotus had earlier changed governments in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh.
“In latest target under Operation Lotus, eight MLAs of Congress have shifted to the BJP in Goa today. It is a testament that BJP is killing democracy and forming their government in non-BJP ruled states by breaking MLAs with help of the CBI and the ED,” Cheema said.
He said the BJP will never succeed in its “wicked” plans in Punjab even if they offer Rs 2,200 crore because the loyal soldiers of AAP under the leadership of Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are standing like a rock.—IANS

New Delhi (The Hawk): The Anti-Corruption Branch on Friday arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan after conducting raids at premises linked to him in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board recruitment, officials said.
They said that during the searches, the ACB team was allegedly attacked by the relatives and other persons known to the Okhla MLA outside his residence.
The anti-corruption agency seized Rs 24 lakh in cash as well as two unlicensed weapons during the operation, the officials said.
The AAP backed the MLA, calling his arrest 'a new conspiracy' of the Bharatiya Janata Party to implicate him in 'a fake case and defame' the Arvind Kejriwal-led party.
'AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been arrested in a fake and completely baseless case. Nothing was recovered from either his residence or office,' the party said in statement.
According to a communication released by the ACB, it had summoned Khan in a case pertaining to alleged financial misappropriation and other irregularities in the functioning of Delhi Waqf Board, which Khan heads as its chairman.
A first information report (FIR) was already registered in connection with the alleged wrongdoings in the board.
As alleged in the FIR, the ACB's Friday statement said, Khan while working as chairman of Delhi Waqf Board illegally recruited 32 people violating all norms and government guidelines and amid allegations of corruption and favouritism.
The then CEO of Delhi Waqf Board had clearly given statement and issued memorandum against such illegal recruitment, the statement said.
"Further, it was alleged that as chairman of Delhi Waqf Board, Khan has rented out a number of properties of the Waqf Board illegally with allegations of corruption and favouritism. Further, it has been alleged that he has misappropriated the funds of the Waqf Board comprising grants in aid from Delhi government," Additional Commissioner of Police, who heads the ACB, Madhur Verma said.
Her said that from the inputs received while questioning and on the basis of information developed by ACB, four locations were searched.
"From these locations, around Rs 24 lakh cash and two illegal and unlicensed weapons and cartridges and ammunition were recovered."
Outside the residence of Khan, the search team was attacked by the relatives and other persons known to the MLA and they also caused obstruction in discharge of government duty to ACB officers, the ACB statement said.
Two FIRs have been registered by ACB in southeast district pertaining to recovery of illegal weapons and one FIR relating to manhandling of police party by relatives of Khan, the statement said.
"Also, from the questioning of Khan and on the basis of incriminating material and evidences against him and from the recovery during the searches conducted on Friday, he has been arrested in the case of 2020," Verma added.
The ACB had issued a notice to Khan on Thursday for questioning in connection with the Prevention of Corruption Act case registered in 2020.
The Okhla MLA was called for questioning at 12 pm on Friday.
Khan, the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board, had tweeted about the notice, claiming he has been summoned as he built a new Waqf board office.
Earlier, the ACB had written to the Lieutenant Governor's Secretariat demanding that Khan be removed as the Delhi Waqf Board chairman for allegedly hampering a probe by 'bullying' witnesses in a case against him.

Amroha (UP): In a seemingly bizarre incident, guests at a wedding in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district were asked to show their Aadhaar cards before they were allowed to pick up dinner plates. The incident took place in Hasanpur where two sisters were getting married at the same venue. Their family began panicking when they saw a huge turnout of guests, many of whom seemed strangers, and then decided to ask the guests to show their Aadhaar cards before they were allowed to enter the dining area. While a number of genuine guests who had come without their Aadhaar cards, saw this as an insult and left the venue without eating, several others who had their Aadhaar cards went in and enjoyed the meal. Some of the guests made a video of the incident and have uploaded it on the social media.&nbsp;

Kanpur (UP): The driver of the ill-fated tractor-trolley that overturned into a pond killing 26 persons in Saad village of this Uttar Pradesh district, has been arrested, sources said on Thursday.
Raju Nishad was allegedly in an inebriated condition when the accident took place on the night of October 1.
The vehicle was carrying the now-deceased victims to attend the ‘mundan’ ceremony of Raju’s son in a temple. Raju and his son had been missing after the accident.
One of the injured passengers, Preeti, had lodged an FIR, naming Raju Nishad.
He has been booked for culpable homicide, not amounting to murder.&nbsp;

New Delhi (The Hawk): According to data released by the Ministry of Electronics and IT on Tuesday, the number of e-KYC transactions carried out using Aadhaar increased to 25.25 crore in September, representing a growth of 7.7% compared to August.
By the end of September, according to government data, there had been a total of 1297.93 crore e-KYC transactions made through Aadhaar.
These electronic KYC transactions do away with the need for paper documents and in-person KYC verification and are only carried out with the explicit consent of Aadhaar holders.
Aadhaar was used for 175.41 crore authentication transactions in September.
Following demographic and OTP authentications, the majority of these monthly transactions used fingerprint biometric authentication.
By the end of September, 8250.36 crore Aadhaar authentications had been successfully completed overall, compared to 8074.95 crore by the end of August.
The ministry added that the network of micro-ATMS and Aadhaar Enabled Payment Systems (AEPS) have made it possible for 1549.84 crore last mile banking transactions to date, with 21.03 crore of those AEPS transactions taking place in India alone in September. According to the press release, it has made financial inclusion possible at the base of the pyramid.
The adult population of India is now almost entirely Aadhaar-enabled.
By the end of September, Aadhaar saturation was 93.92% across all age groups, according to the ministry.
More than 1.62 crore Aadhaar cards were successfully updated by residents in September, compared to 1.46 crore updates in August, and as of the end of September, 66.63 crore Aadhaar numbers had been successfully updated in response to requests from residents. These requests for updates relate to demographic and biometric updates carried out at Aadhaar centres both physically and online.

Agra (The Hawk): Two women, both citizens of Uzbekistan, were detained by the Agra police after they were unable to provide their passports and visas.
The two women were staying at a hotel in Tajganj and were reportedly in possession of bogus Aadhaar cards with a south Delhi address, according to the police.
Two cell phones and Rs 33,000 in cash were taken from their possession.
Under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using a forged document as real), and section 16 of the Foreigners Act of 1946, a FIR has been filed against them.
Bhupendra Baliyan, the Tajganj SHO, said: "The bogus Aadhaar cards were carried by the two foreign individuals. They were identified as Uzbeks by a passport photo discovered in their cell phones. To thoroughly investigate the situation, we are collaborating with the neighbourhood intelligence team. The address listed in the Aadhaar has been verified by the Delhi Police. We also got in touch with the Uzbek embassy."
The two women checked into the hotel on Saturday, according to the FIR that was filed in response to a complaint made by sub-inspector Yogesh Kumar. At the hotel front desk, they presented their Aadhaar to reserve a room.
