Srinagar, Sep 17 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha announced the month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' initiative on Thursday on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
L-G Sinha announced the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan running from September 17 to October 17, 2026, marking 25 years of the Prime Minister's public service.
The initiative includes 12 service programmes like cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, and medical camps across Jammu and Kashmir.
Manoj Sinha said that it is the good fortune of the country that we have the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
L-G Sinha celebrated the Prime Minister's birthday with children at the 'Palaash' and 'Pareesha' homes in Srinagar, where he distributed school bags, sports kits, and sweets.
He also visited the Children's hospital in Bemina and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital to meet young patients and distribute fruits.
The L-G said, "Today marks the birthday of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. As the head of the government and the leader of the country, he has completed 25 years in public service. The Union government has planned a month-long programme to mark the occasion, and various programmes will be organised throughout the month."
"It is indeed the good fortune of the country that we have received the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. India's journey from being among the fragile five economies to becoming one of the top five economies certainly tells a positive story," he added.
"India's economic growth rate is currently around 7.8 per cent, and the country has emerged as the world's fastest growing major economy."
"In the field of infrastructure, the work carried out across the country over the past 12 years, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, has been significant. I believe the credit for this goes to the Prime Minister."
"In terms of welfare programmes for the poor, around 25 crore people have moved out of poverty. Around 80 crore people are being provided free foodgrains, while nearly 11 crore people have benefited from LPG connections," the L-G said.
"Around four crore houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Jammu and Kashmir has also achieved considerable success in implementing these programmes on the ground."
L-G Sinha said that in Jammu and Kashmir, discrimination has ended.
"In terms of road infrastructure and tunnels, projects worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore are currently underway," the L-G added.
"There was a long standing dream of connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, and with the completion of major connectivity projects, that dream has been fulfilled."
L-G Sinha said, "I believe there is an atmosphere of celebration across the country. In Jammu and Kashmir too, the younger generation is witnessing these changes, and it is encouraging to see their enthusiasm."
"I would appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to increase their participation in the month-long programmes and celebrate them with enthusiasm."
