Mumbai: Indian Revenue Service officer Sameer Wankhede, who headed the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai when the NCB arrested several persons, including superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan in the controversial drugs-on-cruise case last year, was on Monday transferred to the DG Taxpayer Service Directorate in Chennai, an official said. The NCB, which recently filed a charge-sheet in the drugs-on-cruise case, gave a clean chit to Aryan Khan, while an SIT set up by the anti-drug agency claimed the probe led by Wankhede had lapses. After the end of his tenure at the NCB, the 2008-batch IRS officer was shifted to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Mumbai earlier this year. Wankhede is likely to take up his Chennai posting on June 10, the official said.The controversial officer was also in the news during his tenure as Mumbai NCB zonal director for his probe into the alleged drug case linked to actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.—PTI

Srinagar: Amid unabated targeted killings in Kashmir, hundreds of government employees posted in the valley took out a march in Jammu on Thursday to demand their immediate transfer to their respective home districts. The protesters were carrying placards in support of their demand and pictures of their colleague Rajni Bala, a school teacher who was shot dead by terrorists at a school in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday, and chanted slogans demanding relocation.The march was carried out from Press Club to Ambedkar Chowk. Assembled under the banner of ‘All&nbsp;Jammu-based reserved categories employees association', the protesters said they will not resume their duties as the government has ”failed” to stop targeted killings and provide a secure atmosphere to them. ”Nearly 8,000 employees from different districts of Jammu are working in Kashmir under inter-district transfer policy and we are not going to return and resume our duties in the present atmosphere. We are serving there for the last 15 years but are feeling insecure and tense in view of the spurt in the targeted killings,” Ramesh Chand, a teacher posted in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, told reporters.He said they have also come to pay homage to Bala and demand the government to ensure free education to her minor daughter and secure a government job for her.”We are frustrated by the deteriorating security situation as nobody, including Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs are safe there. (NSIL), a wholly owned Public Sector Enterprise of GOI under the administrative control of the Department of Space.The Union Cabinet has also approved increasing the authorized share capital of NSIL from Rs.1000 crore to Rs.7500 crore.Transfer of these assets to NSIL will further provide the desired financial autonomy to the company to realize capital intensive programmes/ projects and thereby offering huge employment potential and technology spin-off to other sectors of the economy. This approval is expected to trigger domestic economic activity in space sector and increase India's share in the global space market.The Space Sector reforms mandated NSIL to undertake end-to-end commercial space activities and function as a full-fledged satellite operator. NSIL functioning as a single-window operator will also facilitate the ease of doing business in space sector. NSIL Board will now be empowered to price the transponders as per the market dynamics and global trends in the Satellite Communication sector. NSIL is also authorized to offer and allocate capacity as per its internal policies and guidelines.

Washington: Male spiders have evolved behavioural mating strategies to improve their chances of mating despite the risk of being cannibalised by their mates.
Researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have discovered that male spiders make choices on maximising their mating success when they are at risk of being cannibalised by their female mates. They published their findings in Communications Biology.
Led by Associate Professor Li Daiqin from the NUS Department of Biological Sciences, the researchers found that a male chooses one of its paired sexual organs with more sperm for the first copulation with a cannibalistic female. Also, a male transfers significantly more sperm if a female is cannibalistic or when the female is of a much larger physical size.
Increasing sperm transfer in the face of sexual cannibalism
The theory of the male mating syndrome posits that male spiders are under sexual conflict pressure in sexually cannibalistic situations, as they may only have a single chance to mate. In this study, the researchers explored whether male spiders use additional cannibalism countering strategies by focusing on two male mating tactics. One of which is the "better-charged palp" hypothesis which predicts that male spiders selectively make use of one of their paired sexual organs, known as pedipalps or palps, containing more sperm for their first copulation. The other, referred to as the "fast sperm transfer" hypothesis, predicts accelerated insemination when the risk of female cannibalism is high.
The researchers performed comparative tests on five species of orb-web spiders from Singapore with varying levels of female sexual cannibalism and sexual size dimorphism. They found that male spiders choose one of the paired sexual organs with more sperm for the first copulation with a cannibalistic female. Also, a male transfers significantly more sperm if a female is cannibalistic or when the female is of a much larger physical size. Their results support both the predictions from the better-charged palp and the fast sperm transfer hypotheses, providing credibility for the male mating syndrome.
The outcome also opens new research questions on the ability of a male spider to differentiate the sperm quantities between his palps and on the mechanisms involved in the palp selection after assessing his cannibalistic partner. By further studying Nephilengys malabarensis, a spider species exhibiting sexual cannibalism, the researchers have revealed that it is sperm volume detection, rather than left-right palp dominance, that plays a prominent role in the selection of the male palp.
Assoc Prof Li said, "This study sheds light on how male mating syndrome relates to the levels of sexual cannibalism and suggests that evolutionary arms races do take place, and that animal biology and diversity are importantly shaped by sexual conflict."
Future research
The researchers are looking into future research to better understand the rationale behind male palp choice. Assuming that volume detection is the fundamental mechanism for palp selection in orb-weaving spiders, the anatomical, neuronal and hormonal aspects of male palp choice may be explored to further understand how a male spider distinguishes relatively minute differences in sperm volumes. "The large diversity of extant spiders globally indicates that these findings may not apply to all sexually dimorphic and cannibalistic spiders. Due to sexual selection, the palpal anatomy can undergo rapid changes, such that mechanisms behind sperm transfer of various species may differ," added Assoc Prof Li. —ANI

Varanasi Development Authority's Vice-Chairman Isha Duhan has been made the new DM of Chandauli.
Pilibhit DM Pulkit Khare has been transferred as the DM of Mathura while the Mirzapur DM Praveen Kumar has been made the new DM of Pilibhit.

"The strategy represents an intriguing potential for advertisers," said Greg Peters, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer, in a statement.
Ads will run for 15 or 30 seconds before and throughout performances and films at the start.
"Advertisers will also be able to block their ads from appearing on content that is inconsistent with their brand," according to the business.

New Delhi: Popular streaming platform Netflix, which recently announced the 'Profile Transfer' feature to prevent password sharing, is now available in India.
It is fully enabled and available to users.
The "much requested" feature allows users to transfer their personalised recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other preferences to a new account when they start their own membership, said the company.
The customers have started receiving emails to upgrade to the new feature.
"We will never transfer your payment information, and Children profiles cannot be transferred. All saved games and game progress connected to a profile will move to the new account," it added.&nbsp;
The streaming platform also mentioned that the users will always be in control of their account. They can turn off Profile Transfer on the app and web by signing in to their account.
Meanwhile, in a bid to introduce an ad-supported tier for its users, the company had announced that it will roll out the 'Basic With Ads' streaming plan on November 3 in several countries.
Also, Netflix recently announced that it is planning to crack down on password sharing beginning in 2023.&nbsp;

New Delhi (The Hawk): Sukesh Chandrashekar, an inmate con artist, has sent another letter to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena requesting that he and his wife be transferred to any jail outside of Delhi due to "serious threats" from the jail staff.
He even claimed that on August 31, CRPF members beat him up inside the jail, causing him to suffer serious genital injuries.
The Mandoli jail inmate wrote to L-G on November 7 and stated, "Since last one week, after my complaint to L-G office in regards to AAP and its leaders Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Kailash Ghelot, and Satyender Jain, I have been receiving severe threats of all forms from Jail administration which is directed by Mr. Jain and Mr. Kejriwal."
The Jail Superintendent and other officials have been putting a lot of pressure on me and harassing me for the past 24 hours, and Mr. Satyender Jain is sending me offers for compromise, which if I fail to accept my wife and I will suffer the consequences. As the investigation will start now, I have very important evidence against them, and they are very well aware of it and will go to any length to cause harm to me and my wife Leena paulose who is lodged in Jail No.
As multiple jail staff are being investigated as well as arrested in my case, all of them are targeting me, primarily the Delhi Government controlled by AAP as the jail works on their instructions, and Deputy Superintendent of jail-16 Ms. Dinesh is threatening my wife to ask me to withdraw all charges against AAP. Ms. Dinesh previously received Rs. 5 lakhs as protection in money.
According to his letter, "Kindly transfer me and my wife to any nearby jail which is not controlled by AAP until the completion of investigation, urgently as Delhi Jail administration is completely controlled by AAP. The jail staff work as puppets of Mr. Jain and Mr. Kejriwal, due to which a few days ago I was physically assaulted for not accepting their demands despite a Supreme Court order."
We are in grave danger because of AAP, Mr. Jain, Mr. Kejriwal, and the Delhi Jail administration of Tihar and Mandoli Jails. They are so brazen that despite my Supreme Court order August 23, 2022, I was again assaulted, the letter continued. "Kindly transfer us to UP or Haryana or Uttarakhand Jail until all the enquiry is completed, please consider this on utmost emergency as we are under grave danger," it said.

Ahmedabad (The Hawk): The Gujarat High Court Advocates Association (GHCAA) decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from work on Thursday in protest against the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation to move Justice Nikhil S Kariel from Gujarat to Patna High Court. Three judges in two High Courts should be transferred for administrative purposes, according to a recommendation made on Wednesday by the Supreme Court Collegium, which is led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud.
Justices Nikhil S. Kariel from Gujarat, Justice A. Abhishek Reddy from Telangana, and acting Chief Justice T. Raja from the Madras High Court were all recommended for transfer by the Collegium to the Patna High Court.
The GHCAA has hastily called an extraordinary general body meeting of the association for Thursday at 2 pm "to discuss and pass an appropriate resolution on the Hon'ble Supreme Court Collegium recommendation transferring Justice Nikhil Kariel from Gujarat High Court to Patna High Court," according to the message it sent out in advance of the meeting. In order to express their suffering to the Supreme Court Collegium, the association decided to send letters to Justice Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, and the Supreme Court judges who are also from the Gujarat High Court.
After learning of the transfer, hundreds of attorneys and senior attorneys gathered in the Gujarat High Court Chief Justice's courtroom.
"We're here to oppose the death knell, death to the independence of judiciary because of the transfer of Justice Kariel," senior attorneys Mihir Thakore and Asim Pandya said on behalf of the protesting judges. The supporters also stated that they wanted to observe a two-minute moment of silence. After asking why they had suddenly gathered in court, Chief Justice Aravind Kumar made the statement. Another lawyer in the room made the point that the Chief Justice of the High Court is consulted before such transfers are made.
The online news reports were also shown to the chief justice. However, the court stopped the live broadcast of the proceedings in the middle of it.

Insiders say that party leaders are worried and concerned about the development, despite the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai's attempts to put on a brave face by announcing an investigation and dismissing Congress charges as absurd.
According to sources, Tushar Girinath had already been invited to the Vidhana Soudha after an urgent press conference by Congress leaders regarding the scam in Bengaluru.
The ID cards given to BJP employees by the government have been collected by the Congress. The party is also attempting to get in touch with Higher Education Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan and the Chilume institution that was awarded the contract to conduct voter list revision.
The party had published images of Ashwath Narayan studying at the Chilume institution's Krishnappa Ravikumar. According to Congress, it took more than three months to uncover the scandal with the help of the media.
Tushar Girinath was criticised by Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, who said he had high regard for the officer and wondered how he could descend to the level of allowing voter data to be stolen through impersonation.
According to insiders, the governing BJP has decided to transfer the BBMP Chief Commissioner in order to facilitate a quicker resolution of the issues. The development, according to BJP leaders, has proven to be a setback for them as they approach the assembly elections.
In Karnataka, the elections would take place in less than six months.
Congress has publicly disputed the claim that the BJP is tampering with the voter list because it will undoubtedly lose the next election. It is removing the names of voters who identify as minorities, SC/ST, or OBC. Additionally, the Congress claimed that voters were positioned in empty homes to support BJP candidates.

New Delhi: A man was arrested for cheating innocent people by projecting himself as a rich bachelor on a matrimonial site, and used expensive cars to impress his victims, a Delhi Police official said on Friday.

The accused identified as Vishal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, further duped the victims by offering iPhones at cheaper rates and got the money transferred.

According to police, the complainant, a 26-year-old woman, reported to the police that her parents made her profile on a matrimony site, and she came across Vishal's profile.

"He projected himself as a HR professional having an income of Rs 50-70 lakh per annum. He won over her trust and convinced her to purchase iPhones at cheaper rates for her relatives and friends. She transferred a total of Rs 3,05,799 in eight transactions," said Jitendra Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west).

"After blocking her on social media platforms, he informed her that he met with an accident and was admitted to a hospital in Jaipur, and stopped attending her calls," said the DCP.

"After some days of incident, posing as a decoy a request on the same matrimonial site was sent to the alleged man. He accepted the request and started influencing her in a similar manner, by projecting himself as a HR professional and rich bachelor. The decoy female asked him for a meeting and when he came to meet her, he was nabbed," said the official.

During interrogation, Vishal confessed to his involvement in this cheating and disclosed that after completion of his studies of BCA and MBA from Delhi, he worked as a HR professional in a MNC in Gurugram in 2018.

"Vishal left his job in 2021 and started his business by opening a restaurant in Gurugram, which was not successful. He made a profile on a matrimonial site -- Jeevnasathi.com -- and projected himself as a rich bachelor," said the official.

In order to create an impression, he hired an expensive car for 15 days through an app and paid Rs 2500 per day. He showed some villas and farmhouses as his properties in Gurugram and also projected his well-off business of a food chain in Gurugram, in order to win over the trust of families looking for suitable matches.

"He offered iPhone-14 pro max at a cheaper rate and convinced the victim to buy it, in order to earn profit," said the official, adding that further efforts are being made to trace his possible involvement in other similar complaints also and his bank account details are further being scrutinised. We had said that when Congress party and its leaders say something, they do it. Today, when we click on the tablet, crores of women receive Rs 2000 directly into their bank accounts," Rahul Gandhi said. "Like today, Crores of women will be getting Rs 2000 monthly in their bank accounts through direct transfer method," he said. "We had told you that after elections women in Karnataka will not have to make any payment for travelling on buses. The scheme was called 'Shakti' and we fulfilled it," Rahul Gandhi said. Drawing attention to Karnataka's five poll promises, Rahul Gandhi said out of the five, four schemes were formed for women." Mysuru: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that the five guarantee schemes implemented by the Congress government in Karnataka are not mere schemes but are models of governance.  The five guarantee schemes include free travel for women across the state, free 10 kilograms of rice for all BPL card holders' family members, free power up to 200 units for all households, Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for women heads and monthly allowances for fresh unemployed graduates, diploma holders. Barring the last one, the Congress government has implemented all the schemes.
Addressing a massive rally at the launch event of the Griha Laxmi scheme in Mysuru city, Rahul Gandhi said: "We know the governments are for the poor and exploited. No one should remain backward. They may belong to any caste or religion we decided to take them along. The schemes implemented by us are role models for the whole country."  He said that few leaders in Delhi claim that the guarantee schemes won't be implemented at all.  "We had decided to provide Rs 2,000 for every woman heads of family, to provide free power to all households. We thought our women should travel freely across the state without fear. When the announcement was made, the opposition claimed that it's impossible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said that the assurances can't be fulfilled. But, today, the truth is before the people," Rahul Gandhi said.
He said that the scheme launched today for providing Rs 2,000 cash every month through direct transfer to the accounts of women heads of families is the biggest scheme ever implemented in the world.  "You can use the given allowance for any purpose. It can be used for daily expenditure, children's education, it is up to you. The proud feeling of keeping the promised words is enough for us."  "I proudly tell you that you are responsible for the development of this state. You can speak to any leader of Congress. We will never make false promises. If it is not possible, we will openly share it. If it is possible, then we will take up any ordeal to fulfill the promise," he said.  The guarantees are not the idea of Congress leaders or think tanks. It is also not a corporate concept. These are the ideas that emerged when people shared their hardships during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi said.
Rahul Gandhi said that, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra he had interacted with thousands of women. "I had walked 600 kilometres in Karnataka state. I found that people are suffering from inflation. The women are most affected after the rise in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders. The women shared that they can't bear the rising prices. I understood that women are the primary foundation of the state. Just like the tree is unable to stand without roots, the society can't stand without women. Your (women) empowerment is our primary objective," Rahul Gandhi said.  Rahul Gandhi said that among the five guarantee schemes, four were conceptualised keeping women in consideration.  "Like Rs 2,000 was deposited into your accounts today, likewise every month this amount will be credited. This is our guarantee," Rahul Gandhi said.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lodged an FIR against the Branch Manager of Punjab National Bank in Lucknow for allegedly demanding a bribe from a businessman for transferring money from his account.&nbsp;
A senior CBI official said that a complaint in this respect was received from Pradeep Kumar Kushwaha, a resident of KushiNagar, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) regarding a bribe demand by Saurabh Kumar Rajvanshi, the Branch Manager of Punjab National Bank, Chhitouni
"My loan application was already approved. After the loan was approved, I approached Rajvanshi to transfer the sanctioned amount to a businessman from whom I purchased goods and asked him to transfer it to his bank account. However, he insisted that he would only process the transfer if I give him a bribe," read the complaint lodged by the victim.&nbsp;
The CBI said that after verifying the complaint, they lodged an FIR against the accused under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.&nbsp;
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.&nbsp;
