Ongole: Telugu Desam Party's annual conclave Mahanadu began here on Friday with the party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu giving a call "Quit Jagan, save Andhra Pradesh". Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day conclave, the former chief minister termed Y. S. Jaga Mohan Reddy-led government a "curse" and called upon people to throw it out of power.Setting the tone for deliberations, Naidu launched a bitter attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for its "misrule" and the "havoc" it created by letting loose "repression" during the last three years.He called the YSRCP government a rule by "maniacs, liars and corrupt criminals". The TDP chief said with maniacs in power, the state has lost its honour and dignity.He described Jagan Mohan Reddy as an "inefficient leader" who has been presiding over a rule by maniacs, liars and hardcore corrupt criminals.The TDP chief asserted that if Jagan Reddy would not quit politics, AP would not see good and happy days again. All sections should unitedly raise the slogan of "Quit Jagan" so as to save Andhra Pradesh from future destruction, he said. He alleged that the Jagan government is crushing people with its betrayal in the name of welfare, all-round looting and unbearable taxes. He said the YSRCP government made the state bankrupt with Rs 8 lakh crore debts. Naidu alleged that YSRCP is inefficient to rule the state and hence it was using police to book false cases against those questioning its misrule. He appealed to all police personnel from constable to Director General of Police not to become tools in the hands of maniacs. With the party holding its Mahanadu after a gap of three years, Naidu through his speech tried to lift the spirits of the party cadres.Naidu urged party cadres to continue working the same spirit for next two years and go to people with the slogan of "Quit Jagan, save Andhra Pradesh". Stating that TDP has a glorious history of 40 years, Naidu vowed to build young leadership to take the party forward over the next 40 years. The TDP chief said the chief minister signed "fake MoUs" at Davos with the same companies that worked under the TDP rule. The agreement with Adani Data Centre was signed during the TDP rule but Jagan Reddy cancelled the same and signed a more or less similar MoU with that company at Davos now. Over 12,000 TDP leaders from across the state are attending the conclave which will pass 17 resolutions on various subjects. The TDP organises "Mahanadu" every year in May, coinciding with the birth anniversary of party founder and former chief minister N. T. Rama Rao. After the TDP debacle in the 2019 elections, Mahanadu was not conducted. The annual conclave was conducted in a virtual mode in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The TDP completed its 40 years in March this year. It was on March 29, 1982 that N. T. Rama Rao, a popular Telugu actor, formed the TDP on the slogan of Telugu self-respect.NTR, as he was popularly called, created a record of sorts by coming to power within nine months of forming the party. He died in January 1996, a few months after his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu led a revolt against him to become the chief minister of then undivided Andhra Pradesh. Naidu-led TDP to power in 1999 and remained chief minister till 2004, when Congress wrested the power. After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, TDP formed the first government in the residuary state. It had in the past supported K R Narayanan and A P J Abdul Kalam for the President’s post,” Naidu said. In the same spirit they were extending support to Murmu, the first Adivasi woman chosen for the highest constitutional post.The TDP has one member in the Rajya Sabha, three members in Lok Sabha and 23 members in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Vijayawada:&nbsp;Tension prevailed here on Tuesday during Dalit Garjana dharna by main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP). When the police denied permission for the protest, some TDP leaders climbed on a water tank near Dharna Chowk. The protest was called by Scheduled Caste cell of the TDP to demand implementation of welfare schemes for the Dalits. A group of TDP leaders led by SC cell president M. S. Raju climbed on the water tank to register their protest. Police arrested the TDP leaders and shifted them to police station. The TDP leaders alleged that the police withdrew permission after granting the same for the dharna. They termed the YSRCP government as 'anti-Dalit'. Several TDP leaders were placed under house arrest by the police since early morning in view of the dharna. Police erected barricades at various places to stop the protestors from gathering at Dharna Chowk. Former minister Diveneni Uma, Varla Ramaiah, Buddha Venkanna, G. Rammohan Rao and Ashok Babu were among the leaders placed under house arrest. Meanwhile, TDP politburo member and former minister Nakka Anand Babu alleged that the state government was not providing funs for the welfare schemes for Dalits. He was stopped by police when he was heading to Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada to participate in the protest. Anand Babu had heated arguments with police officers who stopped him. He took strong objection to the attitude of police. He alleged that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government was using undemocratic means to stop peaceful and democratic protests. —IANS

Amaravati (The Hawk): Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, a senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, claimed on Sunday that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had damaged Andhra Pradesh, which was previously on the path to progress.
According to the former finance minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy is using deceitful marketing and inciting religious and regional divisions among the people of the state to shift public attention away from his failures. In three and a half years, he has utterly ruined the state that was constructed with much hard work by the visionary N. Chandrabbau Naidu, Ramakrishnudu stated.
The TDP politburo member stated that halting the Polavaram project, which is the lifeline of the people of Andhra Pradesh, is a textbook example of Jagan Reddy's awful dictatorship.
He asserted that the masses are anxiously awaiting the end of the YSRCP regime. He stated that no matter when the elections are held, the YSRCP candidates will not receive even their deposits.
According to the TDP leader, farmers in the state are feeling uneasy because initiatives such as zero interest and crop loans are not being effectively executed, leading farmers to seek private loans. Metres are being set aside for agricultural pump sets, which he believes have become a significant burden on farmers.
Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, who recalls that over 12 lakh farmers received farm loans during the TDP era, claims that just two lakh farmers are receiving loans presently. The state has reported the highest incidence of farmer suicides, which speaks volumes about the help provided to the farming industry, he said.
The TDP leader claimed Jagan had utterly ignored critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture. He observed that the Chief Minister is more concerned with altering the titles of organisations than with promoting these sectors.
Andhra Pradesh, which was ranked fourth on the NITI Aayog's National Health Index in 2017-18, has suddenly dropped to tenth place, and major hospitals in the state are refusing to accept Arogyasri cards, he said.
The YSRCP government is openly spreading lies about loans and progress, Ramakrishnudu stated, adding that the ongoing irrigation project has come to a halt.
Though the TDP government had assured that there were no lines in front of ration shops in any region of the state, he added that the situation is now completely different. He stated that, except from rice, the ration shops no longer supply any other commodity.

Visakhapatnam (The Hawk): Ayyanna Patrudu, a top TDP figure and former minister, was detained by the Andhra Pradesh police on Thursday on charges of illegal encroachment and fraud.
Early on Thursday morning, officers from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) detained him at his home in Narsipatnam Town, Anakapalli District. Rajesh, his son, was also detained. They were moved to the Visakhapatnam CID office.
Around 200 police officers, according to the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)family, ,'s arrived at the residence at 3 a.m. After sticking the arrest notice on the gate, some of them scaled the wall to enter the residence. As the TDP leader and his family argued with the police officers and questioned their action in breaking into the residence, there was tension.
Many TDP leaders and workers went to the party leader's house after hearing about the arrest to voice their anger. They shouted insults towards the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) administration.
The police's treatment of the former minister and his son like thieves was questioned by the TDP leaders.
The former minister and his son were detained on suspicion of presenting a fictitious document to the high court over the demolition of the former minister's home by the Narsipatnam municipal authorities.
The police had filed a case against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for forgery and trespass (IPC).
Padmavati, the wife of Ayyanna Patrudu, claimed that the policemen were overbearing because they wouldn't even let him change clothes. She said that for the previous three years, the YSRCP government had targeted the family. She said that the government would be liable if anything happened to her husband and son.
In the meantime, police detained a number of party leaders as a precautionary measure because they expected TDP protests in Visakhapatnam. They included V. Ramakrishna Babu, an MLA from Visakhapatnam East.
The municipal authorities in Narsipatnam allegedly removed an unauthorised boundary wall from the TDP leader's home in June of this year.
Patrudu, a TDP politburo member, has been a harsh opponent of Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for a long time. He was arrested in February for making slanderous remarks about the chief minister.
The CID charged Patrudu's other son Vijay last month for allegedly spreading false information against Y. S. Bharathi, the wife of the chief minister.

Khammam (The Hawk): Nara Chandarbabu Naidu, the national head of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), expressed confidence on Wednesday that the party would return its old form in Telangana.
In his remarks at a sizable public gathering held here, he claimed that the large turnout is proof that the party will recapture its former prominence in the state.
On Wednesday, the TDP held a show of force—its first in Telangana following the humiliating loss it had in the 2018 Assembly elections.
The former chief minister informed the audience that he never desired power but instead always desired to be among the people in order to win their favour. He recalled that the TDP had put forth a number of welfare initiatives for various social groups.
Naidu claimed that he always approached his work with the goal of improving the lives of the citizens of the two Telugu states. The TDP leader outlined the development projects he started in Hyderabad and other areas of both Telugu states to demonstrate how his efforts are now beginning to pay off.
"I have worked hard to establish Hyderabad as an information technology (IT) corridor so that the young people there can find better jobs and make more money. Now that you all are aware of it, I'll tell you how young people in the Telugu states are finding work not just nationally but even internationally.
In claiming that the TDP was the driving force behind the Backward Classes' (BCs') entry into politics, Naidu said that N.T. Rama Rao, the party's founder, was completely to blame for the political ascent of various individuals who are now well-known figures in both Telugu states.
According to Naidu, "the late N.T. Rama Rao had adopted numerous welfare measures like the Rs 2 per kag rice, subsidised power supplies, and homes for the needy for the elevation of the disadvantaged sections of the community that helped them grow well."
The former Chief Minister urged the people of Telangana and the party leaders to work hard to restore the TDP's former grandeur, saying that the party is approaching its 40th anniversary and will create a new beginning for a better future.
People want the state to advance, thus we need to restore the TDP's fame and prestige, Naidu added.
The TDP was founded in Hyderabad, the heartland of Telangana, according to the party chairman, who said that only the TDP will endure forever in the hearts of the populace. He asserted that Genome Valley, Cyberabad, and the Hitech City in Hyderabad were all founded with his vision and recalled how he was able to meet the Microsoft founder, which gave rise to the Hitech City.
Naidu claimed that although he had previously made multiple trips to Khammam, this is his first visit there in a very long time.
When he asked if they wanted the TDP to lead the state once more, there was a resounding "yes" from the crowd.
The large attendance at the meeting, according to the former chief minister, is a fitting rebuttal to those who claim that the TDP is no longer active in Telangana.
Naidu claimed that even though he is getting on in years, his vision is still that of a young man.
Naidu stated, "I want to see both Telugu states leading the nation.

Son of TDP leader and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh, would travel 400 days and 4,000 kilometres from Kuppam to Ichchapuram.
It will be a cutting-edge platform for youth with the name "Yuva Galam." It's a campaign to get young people involved in setting the agenda and to speak up for what they believe in and what they want changed.
Many young people have been participating in the TDP's ongoing Idhem Kharma Mana Rashtraniki campaign and bringing up issues in the state that they otherwise would not have.
With this walkathon serving as a forum for our young and others to unite, speak out, and fight for what they deserve, the TDP had now charged Nara Lokesh with organising it.
Lokesh would connect with individuals from various societal groups during the padyatra, according to TDP's Andhra Pradesh unit president K. Acchannaidu, in order to learn about their issues.
The march will start at Kuppam, the Chittoor Assembly district that Chandrababu Naidu represents.

Amaravati: Nara Lokesh, the party's national general secretary, said on Sunday that he was confident the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) would form the government again in Andhra Pradesh. He also said that the party would lower the prices of diesel and petrol.
It was in the Gangadhara Nellore Assembly segment when Lokesh, on his padayatra 'Yuva Galam,' spoke with an autorickshaw driver. The TDP leader asked the cab driver how much diesel cost and was told Rs 95.39 a litre. To Lokesh's question of "how come you are getting it for a lesser price," the driver responded that he fills the fuel in Tamil Nadu because of his proximity to the border
"It is certain that the TDP is going to come to power again and the taxes on fuel will be reduced to control the prices and there will be no need for you to cross the state border to fill uel to your vehicle," Lokesh told him.
Later, at Eedigapalle, representatives from the Gouda community met with Lokesh and presented him with a memorandum detailing the issues they'd been having. In response, Lokesh assured them that his party, the TDP, is dedicated to the well-being of the toddy-tapper community and that all necessary actions would be taken once the TDP returned to power.
He also promised to take measures for construction of roads and also extend financial assistance and subsidies to them through the BC Welfare Corporation. "Our sole aim is this psycho should go and cycle should come back," Lokesh said.
"My mike may be grabbed from me but my voice can not be choked. The people are my strength. I always raise my voice against this atrocious rule," he said while addressing people at KM Puram of Karvetinagaram.
Lokesh pointed out that other leaders had gone on padyatras in the State before him. He asked why problems were only being made for him when he started his journey. "My campaign vehicle and sound system have been seized while my mike was grabbed from me by the police. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday alleged that a TDP MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly was attacked by ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLAs at the behest of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.  The former chief minister alleged that the attack on Dalit MLA, Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, was pre-planned and carried out with the encouragement from the chief minister.  Strongly condemning the attack on TDP MLA inside the Assembly, he termed it the darkest day in the history of Assembly.  Never in the history of Andhra Pradesh, a MLA was attacked inside the House and today is the darkest day in the Assembly's history, Chandrababu Naidu said.  He stated that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will remain as a tainted chief minister who spoiled the image of the legislative bodies. "With the physical attack on the MLA right on the floor of the Assembly, the people clearly understood the policies of the YSRCP," he said.  Terming the ongoing session of the Assembly as a "Kaurava Sabha", Chandrababu Naidu felt that Jagan has gone "totally mad" with the latest results of the elections to the Legislative Council.  The state Assembly on Monday witnessed unprecedented scenes when the TDP members were staging a protest by surrounding Speaker Tammineni Seetharam. They were demanding the government to withdraw an order imposing restrictions on public meetings on roads.  Amid the ruckus, an MLA of the ruling party rushed to the Podium and pulled back Swamy, who fell down. Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national President Nara Chandarbabu Naidu on Tuesday exuded confidence that his party will regain full glory in Telangana.
Addressing TDP leaders and workers at the party's Telangana headquarters here, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh said that he has no doubt that the party will regain its glory.&nbsp;
He asked the party cadres to work hard to once again develop the TDP into a major political force in Telangana.
Naidu, who was Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh between 1995 and 2004, claimed that if Telangana has achieved huge progress and today emerged as the number one state in the country, it was because of the foundation laid by the TDP.
"If you see Hitec City, Cyberabad, Airport, Metro and Genome Valley, the effort made by the TDP is clearly visible," he said.
Naidu also stated that after bifurcation Telangana's economy improved and it marched ahead as the Chief Ministers who came after that did not stop development and did not resort to destruction. "When it comes to Andhra Pradesh, there was destruction, development was stopped and people's lives thrown into darkness," he said exuding confidence that the TDP will return to power in Andhra Pradesh.
This was Naidu's first visit to Hyderabad after he was recently re-elected as the President of the TDP at the party's annual conclave at Rajahmundry.
Naidu's visit and meeting with Telangana TDP leaders also assume significance in the wake of his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President J.P. Nadda in Delhi on June 3.
The TDP President's meeting with Amit Shah, the first since 2018, came amid reports that TDP and BJP are keen to revive their alliance in Telugu states.
Assembly elections in Telangana are scheduled towards the end of 2023 while elections to Andhra Pradesh Assembly are due along with Lok Sabha polls next year.
"I have no doubt that after these two elections, the TDP will emerge as the most powerful party of Telugus," said Naidu at the meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
The TDP had pulled out of the BJP-led NDA in 2018 over the issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The party had fought 2018 Assembly elections in alliance with Congress and smaller parties but had to bite the dust.
The TDP went alone in Andhra Pradesh but lost power to the YSR Congress Party. After the crushing defeat, Naidu softened his stand towards the BJP and is now keen to join hands with it in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

TDP will regain glory in Telangana: Chandrababu Naidu

Amaravati: Though actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, an ally of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh, appears desperate to bring the TDP on board to defeat the ruling YSRCP in the next year’s elections, the saffron party is not likely to take an early decision.
Pawan Kalyan, the leader of Jana Sena Party (JSP), attended the meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held in Delhi on Tuesday. Before participation in the meeting, he reiterated his stand that the BJP, the TDP, and the JSP should join hands for the sake of the stability of Andhra Pradesh.
The actor wants the alliance to ensure defeat of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy by avoiding a split of anti-incumbency votes.
A day after the NDA meeting, the BJP's newly-appointed BJP President, D. Purandeswari said she would meet Pawan Kalyan soon. She, however, made it clear that it is the central leadership of the party which will decide electoral alliances in the state.
Though TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J. P. Nadda last month in Delhi last month, the saffron party has not given any indication whether it would welcome the TDP back into the NDA fold.
The TDP had snapped ties with the BJP in 2018 but ever since losing power to the YSRCP in 2019, Naidu had been trying to warm up to the saffron party. However, the BJP leadership remained cold to his moves.
Political analysts say BJP may not trust Chandrababu Naidu easily this time. Naidu twice walked out of alliance with the BJP and this time, the latter seems to be treading cautiously.
“Naidu has never been straight in his politics and considering its past experience, the BJP may not easily trust him,” said analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy.
The JSP had not contested 2014 elections but had backed the TDP-BJP alliance. Pawan Kalyan had shared dais with both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu during the campaign. Later, the actor-politician distanced from both parties. He had turned a bitter critic of the BJP for not keeping its promise to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
In the 2019 elections, Pawan Kalyan joined hands with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Left parties. However, the alliance came a cropper.
The actor, younger brother of megastar Chiranjeevi, himself lost from the Assembly seats he contested. The JSP bagged a single seat in the 175-member Assembly and the lone MLA also defected to the YSRCP a few months later. Pawan Kalyan later revived alliance with the BJP and has since been struggling to ensure that his political career does not end like that of his elder brother.
A bitter critic of Jagan Mohan Reddy, he wants to see the YSRCP’s defeat at any cost and for this, he is trying to forge a TDP-BJP-JSP alliance.
“He can’t leave the BJP but at the same time, he needs the TDP’s support. He needs their support for his political survival after the bitter result of 2019,” said Raghavendra Reddy.
The BJP, like the Congress, does not have much presence in Andhra Pradesh. It wants to keep Pawan Kalyan on its side to remain afloat. The saffron party still hopes to cash in on the actor’s popularity and at the same time, it is eyeing votes of Kapus, the caste to which he belongs.
Naidu, who has already declared that coming elections will be his last, is keen to see consolidation of opposition to ensure Jagan’s defeat. But the question remains whether BJP will trust him again. Since the YSRCP extended support to the BJP in passing key Bills in the Parliament and stayed away from opposition parties, the BJP may not like to disturb the equation especially when some surveys are projecting 22-24 Lok Sabha seats for Jagan’s party.
In 2019, the YSRCP had bagged 22 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats and won 151 seats in state Assembly. The TDP had won three Lok Sabha and 23 Assembly seats. The BJP, which had contested alone, had drawn a blank.

Amaravati: Violence broke out in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor and Annamayya districts on Friday after the police denied permission for Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Punganur town.
Police reportedly opened fire in the air after a baton charge and tear gas shells failed to bring the situation under control.
Some TDP workers and policemen were injured while two vehicles were set afire.
Police used the force after TDP workers staged a protest demanding the police to allow Naidu to visit the town and allegedly indulged in violence.
The former Chief Minister’s convoy was stopped by police at Beemaganipalli on the outskirts of Punganur as the permission was denied for his visit to the town. Police even parked a truck in the middle of the road to stop the TDP leader.
TDP workers accompanying Naidu demanded that police remove the hurdle and allow him to visit the town. There was a heated argument between the protestors and police officials. Some protestors allegedly indulged in stone pelting.
Police undertook a baton charge and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. When this failed, the police opened fire in the air.
Earlier, there was a clash between supporters of TDP and ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) at Angallu in Annamayya district. Trouble broke out when YSRCP workers tried to remove banners put up for Naidu’s visit. TDP activists tried to stop them, leading to a clash between the two sides. The groups fought pitched battles with stones and sticks.
More violence was reported after Naidu’s convoy passed through Angallu. Some YSRCP workers allegedly attacked TDP men. Few people were injured and about 20 vehicles were damaged in the violence. The TDP alleged that police acted in a biased manner.
Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu blamed state minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and police for the violence. He appealed to police personnel not to allow themselves to be used by the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
Addressing people from an open-top jeep at bypass road on the outskirts of Punganur, he demanded an inquiry into the incidents and action against the guilty.
The Leader of the Opposition said he would never forget these incidents. YSRCP leaders had threatened to disrupt Naidu’s visit to the town. Apprehending the law and order problem, the police had denied permission.
The TDP President is on a state-wide visit to "expose the YSRCP government’s failure in handling and completing various irrigation projects". He is visiting key irrigation projects during his 10-day tour covering a distance of 2,500 km.

A notice served to the TDP chief reads: "It is to inform you that you have been arrested...U/s (under section) 120(B), 166, 167, 418, 420, 465, 468, 471, 409, 201, 109 r/w 34 &amp; 37 IPC and Sec 12, 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (c) and (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998 of CID."
According to the notice, Naidu cannot be released on bail as "it is a non-bailable offence". However, the notice added that he can seek bail through court only.&nbsp;

Amaravati, (Andhra Pradesh): TDP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh was taken into custody for staging a protest against the arrest of his father on Saturday.
TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh who is holding “Yuvagalam Padayatra” sat in protest after his father was arrested.
Several MLAs, who were protesting with him in the East Godavari district, were also detained.&nbsp;
The TDP has alleged that the police stopped Nara Lokesh to prevent him from meeting his father. Naidu's counsel maintained that they are approaching the High Court for a bail.
According to sources, Naidu was diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes.
TDP charged the ruling YSRCP government with illegally arresting Naidu while he was resting in a bus.
Party Spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhiram alleged that the state police and CID had begun the process of illegally arresting Naidu from Friday night.
Hundreds of police personnel surrounded the campsite where Naidu was resting and also illegally detained all leaders with him. Naidu asked the police on which grounds he was arrested and the police could not answer him, he stated.
He further charged that people knew it was Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy behind the arrest and termed him the most corrupt chief minister in the country.
In a series of posts on social media, TDP condemned the arrest of its supremo. "Will you arrest a former CM without telling why he is being arrested? We are with you sir..The people are your fortress. We will fight. We will win," one of the posts stated.
The party also alleged that the authorities did not answer the questions of leaders and advocates while arresting Naidu.
The police knocked on the door of the bus and even as Naidu was asking questions, they arrested him. Chaotic scenes
and tension prevailed at the time of the arrest of Naidu, the party claimed.

Nandyal: High drama followed the arrest of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Nandyal town in the early hours of Saturday.
Police surrounded the RK Function Hall at around 2.30 a.m. when the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo was resting in a bus after addressing a public meeting in the town on Friday night.
When a police team led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Raghurami Reddy reached there, he wanted NSG officials to allow them to meet Naidu.&nbsp;
However, the TDP leaders questioned the police action and purpose of their late night visit and an argument ensued between the two sides.
The TDP leaders told the DIG that their leader is not going to escape and suggested that he return in the morning.
When the police official reached closer to the bus door, the party leaders raised strong objections and wanted him to explain what was the case.
“He is a 73-year-old leader and taking rest. Why do you want to disturb him now?" asked TDP leader Kalva Srinivasulu
The DIG said they have the information that the convoy is moving,but TDP leaders clarified that the bus is meant only for Naidu’s rest.
Police later arrested the TDP leaders who had gathered around the bus.
When Naidu got off the bus at around 6 a.m., the police officials took him into custody.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials said they have arrested Naidu in connection with the Skill Development Corporation corruption case.
After a medical examination, the former Chief Minister was taken to Vijayawada.
The TDP chief is likely to be produced before ACB Court in Vijayawada.

High drama followed Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest

Amaravati: Police arrested scores of TDP workers at Chilakaluripet when they tried to block the police vehicle carrying their leader and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is being brought to Vijayawada from Nandyal where he was arrested  early Saturday.
Police resorted to lathi charge resulting in injuries to some TDP men. Few media persons covering the protest were also injured.
There was tension in Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district when a large number of TDP supporters including women sat on the highway to protest against Naidu’s arrest. The protest led to a huge traffic jam and the police vehicle carrying Naidu was held up for more than half-an-hour.
Naidu himself got down from the vehicle and requested his supporters to clear the way for the convoy.
The TDP leader’s arrest has triggered huge protests by the party cadres. As Naidu is being brought by road from Nandyal, TDP workers gathered at several places enroute to stage the protest. At a few places they tried to stop the convoy but were dispersed by police.
At Chilakaluripet, the protest was led by former minister P. Pulla Rao. Large number of women joined the protest on the highway.
Naidu was arrested by the CID in the early hours of Saturday in Nandyal. The CID officials said he was arrested in the Skill Development Corporation scam, which took place when he was the chief minister.
The former chief minister was taken into custody from a bus in which he was taking rest in Nandyal after addressing a public meeting in the town last night.
After the medical examination in Nandyal, police were bringing him to Vijayawada by road. He is likely to be taken to SIT office in Kanchanapalli where the CID officials may question him. He is likely to be produced before the ACB court later in the day.&nbsp;

Vijayawada: Officials of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday night continued questioning former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation scam.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo was being questioned for more than four hours at SIT office at Kunchanapalli, a suburb of Vijayawada.&nbsp;
There was no clarity as to how long the questioning will continue and when he will be produced before a magistrate.It was also not clear if Naidu’s medical examination will be conducted at SIT office or at a government hospital in the city before taking him to the court.
Amid tension and protests by hundreds of his supporters, Naidu was brought here from Nandyal, where he was arrested by the CID.
Naidu’s wife Bhuvaneswari and son Nara Lokesh reached SIT office to meet him. However, the CID officials have not yet allowed them to meet him.
Naidu’s brother-in-law N. Balakrishna and daughter-in-law Brahmini also rushed to Vijayawada from Hyderabad by a chartered flight. They also reached the SIT office to meet Naidu.
The former chief minister submitted a hand written letter to the CID, requesting that he be allowed to consult four legal counsels. TDP sources said the lawyers were not yet allowed to meet Naidu.
Naidu, who was arrested by the CID in Nandyal early Saturday, was brought to Vijayawada by road. His supporters tried to block the police convoy at several places along the 300-km route.
At a few places, police had to resort to lathi charge to clear the road blocks.

Vijaywada: A court in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada on Sunday sent TDP supremo and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to judicial custody, till September 22, in the Skill Development Corporation scam case.
The ACB Court pronounced the order after lengthy arguments and day-long tension.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo, who was arrested by the CID on Saturday morning, is likely to be shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail.&nbsp;
The court order came as a big setback to the TDP, whose leaders were expecting a favourable judgment.
Immediately after the court order, Naidu’s lawyers filed a bail petition.
It was immediately not clear if the petition will be taken up for hearing immediately.
The arguments, which began around 6 a.m., continued for nearly six hours.
While the prosecution sought 15 day judicial custody of Naidu, the TDP leader’s counsel opposed the same.
The hearing of arguments were completed around 3 p.m. and since then Naidu, his battery of lawyers, family members and TDP leaders were anxiously waiting for the judgment.
The TDP chief himself had made submissions before the judge. He called his arrest illegal and an act of political vendetta by the YSR Congress Party government.
Naidu alleged that there is no rule of law in the state as the government is violating the fundamental rights of the citizens. The former Chief Minister also submitted to the court that the funds for skill development projects were provided in the state budget for 2015-16 and argued that the budget passed by the Assembly can’t be called a criminal act.
Appearing on behalf of Naidu, senior Supreme Court lawyer Sidharth Luthra argued that the CID did not take permission from the Governor before arresting the Leader of the Opposition.
Additional Advocate General P. Sudhakar Reddy, who argued the case on behalf of the CID, submitted to the court that there is prima facie evidence against Naidu.&nbsp;

Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh): Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail in the wee hours of Monday after a court in Vijayawada sent him to a 14-day judicial custody in alleged Skill Development scam case.
Amid tight security, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) brought the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo to Rajahmundry from Vijayawada by road.&nbsp;
The convoy reached the jail around 1:15 a.m. Police had made elaborate security arrangements around the prison.
Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh was allowed inside the jail and after completing the paperwork he left the jail.
NSG commandos guarding Naidu were not allowed inside the jail. On the direction of the Vijayawada ACB Court, Naidu has been allotted a special room. The court has also directed the jail authorities to allow home food and medicines.
The convoy of police vehicles left Vijayawada Court Complex after 10 p.m. Police did not allow any other vehicle to follow the convoy.
There was tight security to prevent any protest along the 200-km route.
TDP workers had staged protests at several places on Saturday when the 73-year-old leader was being brought to Vijayawada from Nandyal, where he was arrested by the CID early Saturday.
As a precautionary measure, police have imposed section 144 of CrPC across the state.
The ACB Court remanded Naidu to judicial custody in the evening, after lengthy arguments and day-long suspense.
TDP leaders alleged that the CID deliberately delayed producing Naidu before the court and shifted him to jail to deny him sleep for nearly 48 hours.
Naidu’s lawyers are likely to file a bail petition in the High Court on Monday.

Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh): Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is remand prisoner number 7691 at the Rajahmundry Central Jail.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo was brought to the jail in the early hours of Monday after a court in Vijayawada sent him to judicial custody for 14 days in alleged skill development scam.
The 73-year-old is lodged in a special room in ‘Sneha’ block in the central prison.
On the direction of the court, the jail authorities were providing him special amenities, including a special room, home-cooked food, medicines and sufficient security in view of threat perception.
Naidu enjoys Z plus category security. However, the NSG commandos were not allowed inside the jail.
The TDP leader’s lawyers have moved a petition in Vijayawada ACB court to permit house arrest in view of Z plus security. This petition along with the plea of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for Naidu’s police custody is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.&nbsp;
