Shimla: Four tourists were killed and three others injured when their vehicle fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Monday, police said. The accident took place near the Ghiagi area on Banjar-Jalori-Jot road, they added.The three injured passengers -- two women and a man -- were admitted to a hospital, police said. Identities of the deceased tourists have not been ascertained yet, they said. The vehicle, an SUV, involved in the accident was bearing a Delhi registration number, police said.—PTI

Uttarkashi: Twenty-five pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh died and three were critically injured on Sunday evening when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a deep gorge en route to the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi district.The accident took place near Rikhavu khadd on the way to the Himalayan shrine around two kilometres from Damta on NH-94, Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said.The pilgrims were from Panna district in Madhya Pradesh, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi said.Besides the driver and the helper, there were 28 passengers on the bus.Seventeen bodies have been recovered so far, and a search is on for the rest, Patwal said.Three people injured in the accident have been admitted to the Community Health Centre in Damta.Police and SDRF teams have been rushed to the spot, besides ambulances from Badkot, Nagaon and Nainbagh.Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster control room at the secretariat immediately after being informed about the accident. He asked the district magistrate of Uttarkashi to speed up relief and rescue operations."Officials concerned have been instructed to investigate the accident. May God grant the departed souls a place at his feet and strength to their family members to bear the pain. Also, I pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured," Dhami said in a tweet in Hindi.Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also spoke to Dhami for an update on the situation.Chouhan said he along with state minister Bijendra Pratap Singh, DGP Sudhir Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora and other officials were leaving for Dehradun from Bhopal."I have talked to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Dhami ji over the phone and requested him to ensure adequate arrangements for the treatment of the injured," he said in a tweet."I and my team are in constant touch with the Uttarakhand government and local district administration. The arrangements are being made to treat the injured and bring the bodies to Madhya Pradesh," Chouhan said.Chouhan said a team of his government from Delhi has already left for Uttarakhand to oversee the arrangements to shift the bodies to Madhya Pradesh and ensure the medical treatment of the injured.He announced that Rs 5 lakh each would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured persons. "Medical treatment of the injured is our priority," Chouhan added.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident."The news of the bus accident in Uttarakhand is very painful. I express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in all possible assistance on the spot," the Prime Minister's Office said, quoting Modi."The prime minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Uttarakhand. The injured would be given Rs 50,000 each," it added.President Kovind expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased."I feel pained by the sad news of the death of people in a bus accident in Uttarakhand," he said in a tweet in Hindi.Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Dhami after the accident and said local rescue teams were engaged in the rescue operation, while National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel would also reach the spot shortly."It is very sad to hear about the bus of devotees falling into a gorge in Uttarakhand. I have spoken to Chief Minister @pushkardhami on this. Local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in rescue work and the injured are being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Earlier on Sunday, as many as 26 people were killed and four were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims from Panna district in Madhya Pradesh fell into a deep gorge en route to the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi.According to the officials, the bus carried 28 passengers including the driver and helper.After the incident, Uttarakhand governor Gurmit Singh on Monday assured of adopting a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to avoid such kinds of road accidents in the state."Lesson will be taken from the accident. We will check minutely about the reason behind the incident and a robust SOP will be prepared. This will define our responsibility so that similar incidents do not occur in future as the safety of pilgrims is the most important part for us. Shimla: Twelve people, six of them women, were killed and three others injured on Monday when a private bus rolled into a gorge in the interiors of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh, police said.Most of the victims were locals and the bus was on its way from Shainshar to Kullu. The accident occurred close to Shainshar in the Sainj valley. Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg said the Sainj-bound bus fell into the gorge at around 9.15 a.m. The injured have been admitted to Regional Hospital in Kullu town. Eyewitnesses said the administration has been facing a tough time extricating the victims from the badly-mangled bus. People in the area began the rescue operation even before the local authorities reached the spot. Expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he bus accident in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu is heart-rending and announced Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who lost their lives. "The bus accident in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh is heart-rending. In this tragic hour my thoughts are with the bereaved families," Modi was quoted as saying in a tweet by his office."I hope those injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected," he said.Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announced Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased, whereas Rs 15,000 as immediate relief for the injured. He said free treatment would be provided to the injured. Chief Secretary Ram Subhag Singh had directed the Financial Commissioner, Revenue, and the Divisional Commissioner of Mandi to reach the accident spot to supervise the rescue operation.—IANS

The bus was headed towards Mussoorie and was departing from DehradunMussoorie: On August 7 afternoon, a bus carrying 39 passengers crashed into a narrow canyon not far from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Academy in Mussoorie, injuring several people. No fatalities have been recorded as yet. According to ITBP, staff from the ITBP Academy arrived quickly and evacuated the injured.The bus was headed towards Mussoorie and was departing from Dehradun. Near the ITBP Academy, the bus lost control and plunged into a gorge. The police-administration team immediately departed for the rescue after receiving the information. The injured passengers were saved, and they were then brought to the Civil Hospital. The rescue team is now having trouble due to the constant rain.A section of the Badrinath National Highway-7 (NH-7) washed away earlier on July 30 due to the increasing water in the Khichda drain in the Lambagad area of the northern state of Uttarakhand, which is still under an orange alert. Pilgrims were left stuck on both sides of the road after the event.Another incident had teachers helping pupils cross an overflowing sewer after a heavy downpour in Uttarkashi. The teachers and pupils connected in a human chain to cross the moving water. A landslide was reported at Nainital Bhowali road earlier on Friday."The road is completely damaged. It will take at least a week to restore it" said Dheeraj Singh Garbyal, DM, Nainital.The Dehradun Meteorological Centre issued an orange signal for the following four days beginning on July 29 due to the likelihood of significant rainfall in the area. Dehradun, Nainital, Tehri, Pauri, Champawat, and Bageshwar are all included in the alert. —ANI

Six people traveling in the vehicle were killed and six were injured in the accident. Voting for the House of Representatives and the Legislative Assembly took place in Nepal on Sunday. After the voting, the ballot boxes were taken to the strong room. The vehicle was returning to Patan from the Police Training Center at Dipayal in Doti district after depositing the ballot boxes. The police vehicle went uncontrolled and fell into a ditch about three hundred meters deep at a place called Ward number four Thum of Patan municipality. Six people died on the spot in the accident and six were injured in the accident. As soon as the information was received, police from District Police Office and Area Police Office, Patan reached the spot. The injured were taken out of the ditch and taken to the health center in Patan. Lifted the injured by helicopter.
The injured are Asha Dhami, Bhanu Bisht, Gopal Kumar Pal, Arjun Kathayat, Tikendra Singh and Lokendra Bahadur Kathayat. After first aid at Patan Health Center, four seriously injured have been sent by helicopter to Higher Center at Nepal Ganj. The names of the dead are yet to be known.

The deceased, identified as bank manager Ravikant Mehta (27), and cashier Triveni Madhav Palaria (40), were posted at Didihat branch of Gramin Bank, they said.
The matter came to light after Palaria’s brother informed police that his brother, who had left for office on Monday, had gone missing.
Following this, a search operation was launched and the bodies were recovered from a deep gorge near Khirchana bridge, SHO (Kanalichina) Javed Hasan said.
The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem, he said. —PTI

Dehradun: A woman and her daughter were killed and 38 injured on Sunday when an Uttarakhand Roadways bus in which they were travelling from Mussoorie to Dehradun fell into a deep gorge, police said. The accident occurred on a turning near the ITBP camp when the driver lost control of the vehicle, plunging the bus into a 70-metre-deep gorge, Mussoorie police station SHO D S Kohli said. There were 40 passengers — 16 women, 19 men and five children — in the bus at the time of the accident, he said. A mother-daughter duo from Mussoorie died in the accident while 38 others were injured. The injured were rushed to a hospital and 26 of them were referred to the Doon and Max hospitals in Dehradun. Rash driving apparently led to the accident as the driver could not control the vehicle while negotiating the turn, he said. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief at the loss of lives in the accident and asked officials to make all arrangements for the treatment of the injured. —PTI
