Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has scored the highest in business environment, that is 40.80 and has improved its performance by two places in India Innovation Index 2021 - a&nbsp;comprehensive tool for the evaluation and development of the country's innovation ecosystem.The State has been ranked 'seventh' amongst the major states as compared to ninth rank in the year 2020. The India Innovation Index 2021 report was released by NITI Ayog.It is due to improvement in overall business environment, high cluster strength and significant share of manufacturing and service sector as a percentage of GSDP.According to the official spokesman , the state has emerged in the top five states under the knowledge-output pillar. This high score is an outcome of a rise in start-ups&nbsp;and new businesses.Chief Executive Officer of Invest UP, Abhishek Prakash said: "Innovation led entrepreneurship is key to 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' programmes and we are determined&nbsp;to create an innovation-friendly environment to give further impetus to start-ups, manufacturing and services."With the score of 6.18, Uttar Pradesh has scored above the national average of 5.81 in Knowledge Diffusion due to a high share of ICT exports, high-tech exports and citations.Knowledge Diffusion indicates knowledge absorption capacity of the state. It has two sub pillars -- knowledge dissemination, and creative goods and services.Knowledge Dissemination includes indicators linked to sectors that are key to innovation, such as- software exports, high-tech exports, high and medium-high-tech manufacturing&nbsp;entities.India Innovation Index, prepared by NITI Aayog and the Institute for Competitiveness, is an assessment framework which ranks the states and the union territories on their&nbsp;innovation performance.The third edition of the index released by NITI Ayog highlights the scope of innovation analysis in the country by drawing on the framework of the Global Innovation Index.The number of indicators has increased from 36 (in the India Innovation Index 2020) to 66 (in the India Innovation Index 2021) which are distributed across key pillars like&nbsp;human capital, investment, knowledge workers, business environment, safety and legal environment, knowledge output, and knowledge diffusion. —IANS

New Delhi [India]: As the report of the Ethics Committee in the alleged "cash-for-query" case will be tabled in Lok Sabha today, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra said that now the people will see the battle of Mahabharata. Speaking to the media, Mahua said "Mother Durga has arrived, we will see. These people who have started snatching clothes will now see the battle of Mahabharata."
She also quoted a quote from famous poet and former Rajya Sabha Member, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar which said "Destruction befalls a person, conscience dies first," (Jab Naash Manuj par chaata hai, pehle vivek mar jaata hai). "Chairperson Vinod Kumar Sonkar and Aparajita Sarangi to lay on the Table the First Report (Hindi and English versions) of the Committee on Ethics," the agenda released by Lok Sabha read. The report was mentioned in the agenda of the list of business of Lok Sabha for the opening day of the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament. However, it could not be taken up. The Ethics Committee, which investigated the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, adopted its 500-page report on November 9 recommending Moitra's expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha in view of her "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct.
The draft report was adopted by a 6:4 majority in the panel last month. As per the sources, the draft report on Mahua Moitra's cash-for-questions case reveals that she visited the UAE four times from 2019 to 2023 while her login was accessed several times. "On 47 occasions, her member portal login credentials were accessed from Dubai," sources said citing the draft report of the ethics committee. The TMC has demanded that the MP Mahua Moitra be given a chance to put forth her defence. TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, "I spoke with the Speaker, and he said that this committee report along with other reports will be tabled. I said that TMC MP Mahua Moitra should be given a chance to speak..." Earlier, MP Aparajita Sarangi who is part of the Ethics Committee said, " The Committee has already submitted its comprehensive report to Lok Sabha Speaker. Once it is tabled, we wouldn't mind any kind of discussion. We are always open to any kind of discussion...I think the report is very comprehensive and everything has to be taken into account, including the content of the affidavit of Darshan Hiranandani. So, I think the Speaker has to take a call on that."
Congress MP K Suresh on Friday said that his party will oppose the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha if the report of the Ethics committee which is set to be tabled in the Parliament today recommends the same. Speaking to ANI, Congress Lok Sabha Chief Whip K Suresh said, "Today, the Ethics Committee report is being tabled. It is already included in the List of Business in Lok Sabha. Let us see what report are they going to table in the House. If the report states the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra, we will oppose it tooth and nail."

Centurion: South Africa pacers made full use of extra bounce on offer to leave India precariously placed at 91 for 3 at lunch on the opening day of the first Test, here on Tuesday.
Kagiso Rabada (1/15) bowled a probing opening spell to get rival captain Rohit Sharma (5) and allowed debutant left-arm pacer Nandre Burger (2/23) to go flat out and get Yashasvi Jaiswal (17) and Shubman Gill (2) in quick succession.  India were tottering at 24 for 3 within the first hour.  Virat Kohli (33 batting) got a massive reprieve when he was on four as Tony de Zorzi dropped a dolly at square leg off Burger. India's premier batter then carried on the repair work with Shreyas Iyer (31 batting), who hung on gamely despite being troubled by deliveries that took off slightly from back of length.  Iyer was also dropped on his individual score of 4 by Marco Jansen at point off Rabada.  The duo added 67 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket on a track where no batter would feel settled as there would always be a delivery that will kick-up and have one's 'number' written on it.  Kohli had four boundaries to his credit while Iyer had three hits to the&nbsp;
At the toss, home skipper Temba Bavuma took the expected decision of bowling first and his bowlers made the best use of the conditions in the first hour of the match.  The compulsive puller that Indian captain is, his opposite number Bavuma had to station a long leg like all international skippers deploy across formats.  Having bowled in and around off-stump, Rabada dug one short but the height was just above waist which allowed Rohit to take the bait as he went for the pull.  Burger standing at least 10 metres from the long-leg boundary rope had to just complete the formality.  Young Jaiswal initially played close to his body. He clipped Rabada through mid-wicket and also square cut Burger on the rise.
Bowling slightly on the fourth stump channel, the left-arm paceman slightly altered his line and pitched one full on the off-stump. The ball held its line and enticed Jaiswal to go for a drive and the nick was taken by keeper Kyle Verreynne.  But the delivery that Burger bowled to dismiss Gill was a classic set-up as he kept the stylish right-hander quiet with slightly back-of-length deliveries on the middle-leg line, not giving him any room to play on the off-side.  Just like New Zealand left-armer Neil Wagner relentlessly bowls the rib-cage line to right-handers, Burger changed his tactic and kept one right below Gill's arm-pit and the batter didn't have enough reaction time to prevent it from brushing his gloves and go into the keeper's gloves.  While Kohli and Iyer both led charmed lives, India still are very much in the woods after the first session.

Centurion: The Indian team on Saturday received an injury scare after seam bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur suffered a blow on his shoulder at nets while batting.
There is the possibility of him missing the second Test in Cape Town beginning on January 3, but the extent of the hit could be ascertained through scanning if required.  At this moment, it couldn't be confirmed if his injury warrants scans.

But Thakur was in considerable discomfort and couldn't bowl during the net session.  Thakur, who was the first player to enter the throwdown nets, was hit on the left shoulder while facing throwdowns from fielding coach T Dilip.  It happened around 15 minutes into the net session when Rathour delivered a throwdown that kicked up from length.  It had Thakur in a tangle like it happened in the second innings of the first Test when pacer Kagiso Rabada generated an edge for David Bedingham to complete a catch.  Here too, Thakur couldn't fend the short ball that hit his leading shoulder (left) and he immediately shrieked in pain.  But the Mumbai all-rounder continued batting in the nets.  Once he finished batting, the physio put an ice pack sling around his shoulder and he didn't take any further part in the nets.  This might be a simple bruise but it will be interesting to see how quickly the injury subsides.  Thakur was a big disappointment in the first Test having given away over 100 runs in just 19 overs and was below par with the bat as well.

Kolkata: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to a private hospital here on Saturday after he complained of severe chest pain, officials of the health facility where he is undergoing treatment said.
The 73-year old actor underwent an MRI and other tests are currently being conducted, he said.
"Chakraborty has been admitted this morning and is undergoing medical evaluation. We will be able to provide further details later," the hospital spokesperson said.  The actor-turned-BJP leader was brought to the hospital around 10.30 am.  "The reports of the MRI are awaited. He is currently in the ITU under the supervision of a neuromedicine specialist," a doctor at the hospital told PTI.

New Delhi (The Hawk): A state-of-the-art Submersible Platform for Acoustic Characterisation and Evaluation (SPACE) was inaugurated by Secretary, Department of Defence (R&amp;D) and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat at Underwater Acoustic Research Facility, Kulamavu in Idukki, Kerala on April 17, 2024. The SPACE, set up by the Naval Physical &amp; Oceanographic Laboratory of DRDO, has been designed as a premier testing and evaluation hub for sonar systems destined for Indian Navy onboard various platforms including ships, submarines and helicopters. The SPACE marks a milestone in naval technology advancement. It will consist of two distinct assemblages - a platform which floats on the water surface, and a submersible platform which can be lowered to any depth upto 100 m using winch systems. Upon completion of operations, the submersible platform can be winched up and docked with the floating platform. The SPACE will mainly be utilised for evaluation of complete sonar system, allowing for quick deployment and easy recovery of scientific packages such as sensors and transducers. It will be suitable for survey, sampling, and data collection of air, surface, mid-water, and reservoir floor parameters using modern scientific instrumentation. It will cater to the needs of data processing and sample analyses in modern, well equipped scientific laboratories heralding a new era of Anti-Submarine Warfare research capabilities.

Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council declared the class 10 and 12 results on Saturday. The results revealed 89.55 pass percentage for high school and 82.60 pass percentage for intermediate candidates. Sitapur candidates dominated the state rankings this year in both high school and intermediate exams. Prachi Nigam from Sitapur secured the first position in high school with 98.50%, followed by Deepika Sonkar from Fatehpur with 98.33%, and Navya Singh from Sitapur with 98% marks. In the intermediate exams, Shubham Verma from Sitapur topped with 97.80%, followed by Vishu Chaudhary from Baghpat and Kajal Singh from Amroha, both scoring 97.60%. In the high school results, out of the total passed candidates, 12,38,422 are boys and 12,23,604 are girls. The passing percentage of boys and girls is 86.05% and 93.40, respectively. The passing rate of girls is 7.35% higher than that of boys. In Intermediate, the passed out candidates comprise 10,43,289 boys and 9,82,778 girls. Girls have recorded a 10.64% higher passing percentage than boys, with 88.42% compared to boys' 77.78%. Director of Education (Secondary) Dr. Mahendra Dev and Secretary of Secondary Education Council Dibyakant Shukla, while declaring the results, said that with the board examination of the year 2024, the Secondary Education Council has also set new records. "This year, the UP Board achieved a significant milestone by completing the examinations within a record 12 working days. Simultaneously, the evaluation of answer sheets was also efficiently conducted within the same timeframe. This marks the second consecutive year, following 2023, where the board has released results in record time, a first in its 100-year history."* He further detailed that the high school and intermediate exams were held from February 22 to March 09, 2024, across 8,265 examination centres. The evaluation of answer sheets for both levels was accomplished between March 16 and March 30, 2024, at 259 evaluation centres scattered across various districts of Madhya Pradesh. A total of 29,47,335 candidates registered for the high school examination, comprising 29,36,353 institutional candidates and 11,982 individual candidates. Of these, 27,38,999 institutional and 10,365 individual candidates, totaling 27,49,384 candidates, appeared for the exam. The gender distribution among the candidates was 14,39,243 boys and 13,10,121 girls. Out of these, 24,62,026 candidates, including 24,55,041 institutional and 6,985 individual candidates, passed the exam. Institutional candidates achieved a passing percentage of 89.63%, while individual candidates had a passing percentage of 67.39%. The passing percentage for institutional candidates was 22.24% higher than that of individual candidates. The evaluation was conducted by 94,802 examiners. Compared to 2023, there was a slight decrease of 0.59% in the passing percentage for boys, while the passing percentage for girls increased by 0.06%. Overall, there was a marginal decrease of 0.23% in the overall passing rate. A total of 25,78,007 candidates registered for the intermediate examination, consisting of 24,25,426 institutional and 1,52,581 individual candidates. Of these, 24,52,830 candidates, including 23,16,910 institutional and 1,35,920 individual candidates, took the exam. Among these candidates, 13,41,356 were boys and 11,11,474 were girls. A total of 20,26,067 candidates passed the exam, with 19,08,647 being institutional and 1,17,420 being individual candidates. The passing percentage was 82.38% for institutional candidates and 86.39% for individual candidates. The passing percentage for institutional candidates was 4.01% lower than that of individual candidates. The evaluation involved 52,295 examiners. Compared to 2023, there was a decrease of 1,90,173 candidates appearing for the intermediate exams. There was a notable increase of 2.54% in the number of candidates achieving honours in the first division, along with a rise of 2.83% in candidates passing in the first division. Boys' passing rate increased by 8.44%, and girls' passing rate saw a rise of 5.42%. Overall, there was an impressive increase of 7.08% in the overall passing percentage. —ANI

However, stakeholders must recognize that these scores are not the ultimate determinants of a student’s capabilities or future. Education systems also offer supplementary exams, providing multiple opportunities for students to improve their scores and learn from their mistakes. This flexibility highlights the importance of resilience and continuous effort over mere immediate success in examinations. As society moves forward, the call for an education system that appreciates diverse intelligences and learning styles grows louder. Both educators and parents are encouraged to shift their focus from scores to fostering an environment where creativity and imagination are nurtured, helping students to understand that an exam, much like the evaluation it entails, is not definitive of their entire educational journey or life potential.
