Aligarh (The Hawk): Two Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students have been arrested for making "objectionable" comments while participating in a black day on December 6 to protest the Babri Masjid demolition.
Under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or beliefs), 298 (uttering words, etc. to wound religious feelings), and 505, a FIR has been filed against the two students and a few unnamed individuals (statements causing public mischief).
Following an investigation into the situation after a supposed video of the demonstration recently appeared, sub-inspector Azhar Hussain filed a report at the Civil Lines police station, according to the police.
"Some AMU students held a protest on the university campus and raised undesirable chants while carrying a poster with offensive remarks scrawled on it," said Aligarh ASP Kuldeep Singh Gunawat. The rally was held despite the district being subject to prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC.
Wasim Ali, the proctor for AMU, continued, "No authorization was given for any event on December 6, and there was no protest at the school. There has been no notification of any dark days. We learned about a small group of students who gathered on campus, shared some private feelings, and then dispersed. There is no connection to the university.
