Gandhinagar, April 3 (IANS) Two men were arrested with nearly 12 kilograms of narcotic substance (ganja) during a targeted operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Gujarat CID (Crime) in the Mota Chiloda area of Gandhinagar, officials said on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence during routine patrolling, a team from the ANTF’s Gandhinagar zone intercepted a government bus at Chiloda Circle and apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in the illegal trafficking of ganja.

Police identified the accused as Viraj Solanki, 26, a resident of Moti Bhagor in Dabhoda, and Aditya alias Adi Baraiya, 22, of Chanakyapuri in Gandhinagar.

According to officials, a total of 11.94 kg of ganja valued at Rs 5.97 lakh was seized, along with two mobile phones worth Rs 10,000, taking the total value of the recovered property to Rs 6.07 lakh.

"The operation was executed by a team led by Inspector N.R. Patel, with officers including K.M. Vadnagara, P.S. Zala and P.M. Chavda, along with other personnel and a technical expert," officials said.

A case has been registered under Sections 8(C), 20(B)(2)(B) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Further investigation has been handed over to the Chiloda police station.

The seizure adds to a series of recent crackdowns on narcotics in Gujarat and elsewhere.

In February, authorities uncovered a large illegal narcotics plantation in Bhavnagar district, seizing drugs valued at over Rs 10.9 crore, including cannabis and opium, in one of the state’s biggest hauls.

Earlier in March, enforcement agencies also detected a high-value urban distribution setup in GIFT City, recovering hybrid ganja worth more than Rs 26 lakh from a rented apartment.

In another recent action, the ANTF seized 5.177 kg of ganja in Sabarkantha district’s Prantij area and arrested one accused, while further investigations were launched to trace the wider network linked to the supply.
