Uttarkashi (The Hawk): Heavy snowfall on Friday over the avalanche-hit site near the 'Draupadi ka Danda' peak hampered search efforts for the three missing mountaineers.
According to the NIM, 29 members of a team from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering went missing after an avalanche hit them on their way back from the summit.
Twenty-six bodies have since been recovered, with three still unaccounted for.
Four of the twenty-six bodies recovered thus far have already been returned to their families. Efforts are being made to bring the rest down.
With weather conditions impeding search efforts, relatives who have travelled to Uttarkashi from all over the country are growing impatient.
Aerial rescue operations will resume only when the weather improves, according to District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal.

Pithoragarh: Heavy snowfall lashed several areas in Dharchula town in Pithoragarh district, leaving up to two feet of snow in the upper areas and blocking key roads near the Nepal border on Sunday, officials said.
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officials said that some roads have been blocked following the continuous snowfall because of which locals and security personnel have been facing problems. They said the Lipulekh road has been closed near Malla Ghat.
Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan said they are continuously monitoring the situation.
Higher reaches of the state have been receiving snowfall intermittently for the past week. In Darma valley, the last outpost near the China border, last week received more than four feet of snowfall in the mountains at an altitude of 17,500 feet. Security personnel had to patrol the area under extreme circumstances. Last month, a woman died and about 30 houses were damaged in a cloudburst in the district. The cloudburst flooded the Kali river. Several houses were washed away by the strong current. There were also reports of damage in villages in Nepal.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams had to be deployed to carry out rescue and relief work. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the cloudburst-hit villages and took stock of the rescue work. —ANI

Chamoli: The pilgrimage to the Hemkunt Sahib in Uttarakhand's Chamoli has stopped just a day before the closing of its doors due to heavy snowfall here.
As the Chamoli district has received fresh snowfall today, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shweta Choubey informed that the region has received snow coverage of more than 2 ft.
"More than two feet of snowfall has covered the area so far, due to which the pilgrimage at Govindghat and Ghangariya has stopped," said SP Shweta Choubey said. Shri Hemkunt Sahib Trust Vice President Narendra Jeet Bindra on September 7 had informed that the portals of Gurudwara will be closed at 1 pm on October 10.
Situated at an altitude of 15,225 feet, the Gurudwara has been thronged with over 2 lakh devotees, ever since its doors were opened on May 22.
Hemkund Sahib is considered to be the fifth Dham of Uttarakhand.
Hemkunt Sahib (also known as Hemkund Sahib) is visited by thousands of devotees from all over the globe every summer. The Gurudwara is situated beside a lake and it is believed that the 10th Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh had meditated at the site.
Meanwhile, Darma Valley, which is the last outpost near the China border in Uttarakhand also received snowfall of the season on Tuesday.
As there has been more than one foot of snow here, the cold increased in 14 villages of Darma valley and seven villages of Vyas valley in the high Himalayan region.
It had received about 1 foot of snow in the low-lying area and more than four feet of snowfall in the mountains at an altitude of 17,500 feet. In extreme circumstances, security force personnel remain engaged in protecting the border from the last checkpoints.
More than one foot of snowfall was also received in Dhaka and Bidang Chowki located at an altitude of more than 10,000 feet of Darma Valley.
In both the valleys (Darma and Vyas), people have started harvesting palti, paffar and other crops and they will come to the lower valley from the first week of November.
There was snowfall in the Jyolicang, Nabhidhang, Om Parvat, Adi Kailash and the famous Panchachuli peak of the Beas Valley on October 2 as it rained in the lower valley. —ANI

Trees and houses in Mandhol were covered in white, while locals preferred to remain in the warm confines of their homes amid the heavy snowfall.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum and minimum temperatures in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday were recorded at 6 degrees Celsius and -4 degrees Celsius.
In the state's higher reaches, Narkanda, Manali and the Malana villages in the Kullu district also received snowfall. Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district also received a fresh round of snow and temperature in the region dipped significantly after the snowfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in its weather report stated that with the fresh snowfall on higher reaches and rains in the plains the graph of temperature has once again descended across the Doda region. "The entire region has been gripped by a cold wave forcing people to wear warm clothes and stay indoors. The rush of people in Doda markets disappeared as people preferred to stay indoors due to the cold wave," the Regional Meteorological Centre stated.

Tourists and hotel owners in the hill resort were overjoyed by the fresh spell as a white blanket covered the farms, gardens, Surkanda Devi in Kanatal, Kaddu khal, Batwaldhar in Tehri, besides Tapovan and several other areas. Heavy snowfall was also recorded in Shimla district of adjoining Himachal Pradesh. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum and minimum temperatures in Uttarakhand on Saturday were recorded at 6 degrees Celsius and minus 4 degrees Celsius. Officials said that in addition to Joshimath, which is at a height of about 6,000 feet, snow fell in many famous places in the higher altitudes of Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts, such as Badrinath, Auli, Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib, Nanda Devi National Park, and the Valley of Flowers.
The District Disaster Management office reported that snowfall had affected 47 villages in the Chamoli district, 19 of which were located in the Ghat sub-division, 13 in the Joshimath sub-division, 8 in the Gairsain sub-division, and 7 in the Chamoli sub-division. Dehradun residents awoke to drizzle on the same day that Mussoorie, a major tourist destination, saw its first snowfall of the season. It was foggy all throughout the state's plains, which included the districts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.
According to reports, the high mountains are still seeing snowfall and the lowlands remain mostly cloudy. Dismantling of unsafe hotels and houses in Joshimath has been temporarily halted due to bad weather, Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said.  Following land subsidence, as many as 849 homes in Joshimath have developed cracks, and 258 residents have been relocated to temporary relief centres, according to officials.—Inputs from Agencies

Shimla: While several other areas of the state were battered by heavy rains on Wednesday, 265 roads in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur, Shimla, and Kullu districts were blocked by a fresh round of snowfall.
Minimum temperatures in the state went up by three to five notches. At night, Keylong was the coldest, with a low temperature of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius.
Another western disturbance is expected to strike the region starting Friday night, and the local weather service has predicted a wet spell in the region until January 30. There were 139 roads closed in Lahaul and Spiti, 92 in Chamba, 13 in Shimla and Kullu combined, 3 in Mandi, and 2 in Kangra district. These are National Highway 3 near Rohtang Pass, National Highway 305 near Jalori Pass, and National Highway 505 from Gramphu to Lossar. Gondla saw the most snowfall with 50.5 cm, followed by Salooni with 46 cm, Kukumseri with 32 cm, Bharmaur with 30 cm, Keylong with 23 cm, Hansa with 20 cm, Kothi with 10 cm, Khadrala and Sangla with 8 cm each, Kalpa and Shillaroo with 5 cm, Chopal, Narkanda, and Pooh with 3 cm, and Kufri with 1 cm.—Inputs from Agencies

"Places located 2,500 metres and above received snow. The lower areas received showers," Singh said. Tyuni in Dehradun district received 43.6 mm of rain, Chakrata 40.2 mm, Purola in Uttarkashi 40 mm and Dhanolti in Tehri district 22 mm of rain, he said.The weather is likely to clear from Tuesday, Singh added. —PTI

The sporting event was to be held from February 24 toThe event was originally scheduled to be held from February 2 to 8 but it was postponed in the wake of the land subsidence in Joshimath.
Speaking to ANI, the secretary of the Ski and Snow Board Association of Uttarakhand, Praveen Sharma, said, "All preparations had been made to conduct the National Skiing Competition. However, because of the sudden change in weather, it will not be possible to hold the event this year."
A popular tourist destination situated 12 kms above Joshimath, Auli is visited by people from all over the world. However, all tourist destinations in Joshimath area currently wear a forlorn look, with visitors keeping away in the wake of recent landslides and subsidence, which opened up cracks in hotels.
Since the collapse of several structures in Joshimath on January 2 owing to landslip and subsidence, several hundred houses and hotels in the holy site suffered big cracks. After assessing the condition of the structures, the administration had vacated all hotels and houses on priiority.
While visitors, especially adventure-seekers flock to Auli for skiing every year, this time there is not much snow. Even in places that have received snowfall, visitors are few and far between owing to fear over the prevailing situation in Joshimath. With visitors turning away from Joshimath, there are livelihood concerns for locals many of whom make a living in the peak tourist season. —ANI

The doors of Lord Badrinath are to be opened on 27th April. Due to repeated bad weather and severe cold, the work of travel preparations and master plan is being affected. Reportedly, the temperature is falling low with heavy snow ongoing on other peaks including Nar Narayan, Neelkanth and Mana. Earlier on March 11, the Rudraprayag district administration had started preparations for the Chardham Yatra which is set to begin on April 22. The Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand is one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimages in India. This pilgrimage is a tour of four holy sites - Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri - nestled high up in the Himalayas. The high-altitude shrines remain shut for around six months every year, opening in summer (April or May) and closing with the onset of winter (October or November). Kedarnath: Continuous heavy snowfall and rain in Kedarnath for the past few days has hampered the preparations for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, an official said on Thursday.
Kedarnath Dham is scheduled to be reopened for pilgrims on April 25, for which various departments, under the direction of District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, are making preparations for the travel arrangements.
Due to bad weather, there are problems in the preparations for the yatra and labourers engaged in construction work are also facing difficulties.
Disaster Management Authority official Surendra Singh Rawat said: “The trek route to the temple has been blocked for traffic due to rain and heavy snowfall near Bhairav glacier.” Snow clearing operations will be resumed by the labourers as soon as the snowfall stops, he said.&nbsp;

All the devotees coming to Kedarnath Dham from the country and abroad have been informed by the government to check the weather forecast before going to Kedarnath Dham and have been asked to carry enough warm clothes," the government stated. "There was heavy snowfall in Kedarnath Dham yesterday. Pilgrims are requested to be alert and begin their yatra by looking at the weather," said Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar. It has been said by the government that adequate health arrangements have been made on all the travel routes. Passengers can also visit the nearest health centre immediately after starting the journey or if their health deteriorates during the journey and consult a doctor. The state government is determined to make the journey smooth, safe and uninterrupted. The travel arrangements are being regularly monitored from a higher level. On the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya on Saturday the Char Dham Yatra began. This time the state government is making every possible effort to make the Char Dham Yatra smooth and safe for the devotees. Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in view of heavy snowfall in the Kedarnath pedestrian route and the warning of the Meteorological Department.
Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the heavy snowfall in the Kedarnath Dham route and Dham.
The weather is expected to remain bad in Kedarghati for the next week, according to an official statement. "The weather is expected to remain bad in Kedarghati for the next one week. On the alert of the Meteorological Department, the state government has stopped the registration of the visit to Kedarnath Dham. The heavy snowfall in Kedarnath has created difficulties for the administration," the statement said.
"Registration of pilgrims for Kedarnath has been stopped in view of the snowfall of three to four feet in the Kedarnath pedestrian route and Dham and the warning of the Meteorological Department," it added.
Earlier on Sunday, Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar asked the district in-charges of the Garhwal zone to be prepared after the Meteorological Department predicted the possibility of snowfall in Kedarnath Dham in the next six to seven days.
"According to the forecast received from the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of snowfall in Kedarnath Dham for the next 6-7 days, in view of which the Superintendent of Police, Rudraprayag has been coordinated with the district administration and officials of the concerned department to take further necessary action," the press release said.
During the meeting, Uttarakhand DGP Kumar said that wide publicity should be given across media platforms regarding the continuous snowfall in Kedarnath Dham.
"Wide publicity should be given through social media platforms, news channels, newspapers, etc. regarding continuous snowfall in Kedarnath Dham. Also, in view of rain and snowfall, urge the devotees to be careful in view of the weather and start the yatra when the weather clears up as per the weather forecast," it said. "Regarding Avalanche warning, necessary action should be ensured by establishing coordination with district administration and concerned department officials," it added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The Uttarakhand government has stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in view of heavy snowfall in the Kedarnath pedestrian route and the warning of the Meteorological Department.

Rudraprayag: Following the continuous snowfall in Kedarnath Dham, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for hailstorms and thunderstorms in the state for the next four days from Sunday, according to an official release.
"The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for bad weather in the state for the next four days from today. An alert has been issued for hailstorm and thunderstorm with a speed of 70 km per hour and heavy snowfall in areas above 3500 meters," read the release.
Informing about the unclear and bad weather in the state, the release said, "It has been snowing intermittently for the last thirteen days in Kedarnath Dham. The snowfall process started in Dham on April 18 and the snowfall which started in the afternoon on Saturday also continued till night."
"The weather is not clear in Kedarnath even from this morning. Due to snowfall, it is getting cold in Kedarnath," added the release. Earlier, owing to the problems caused due to snowfall in Kedarnath and Badrinath and the rains in the low-lying areas, the late-night Char Dham Yatris were stopped by police in Srinagar itself. Along with this, an announcement is being made to appeal to the passengers to stay in nearby cities. "In Srinagar Garhwal police have made checking points near NIT Uttarakhand and near Badrinath bus stand where Char Dham Yatris are being stopped and those who have online bookings for a night stay will be allowed to go towards Rudraprayag. But the passengers who have not booked the passes are being appealed to stay in Srinagar only," said SHO Srinagar, Ravi Saini.
Ravi Saini said that there are adequate arrangements for staying in Srinagar, and the passengers will not face any kind of problem. "Passengers are being appealed to continue their journey when the weather clears up," he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Uttarakhand Police Urges Pilgrims To Be Extra Cautious In View Of Snowfall

Rudraprayag: In view of the possibility of rain and snowfall in the high Himalayan regions, an alert has been issued for the next 2-3 days by the Meteorological Department. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that an appeal has been made for the safety of the pilgrims coming to visit Kedarnath Dham. "Till the weather is fine, the passengers should stay at the same place and travel intermittently," he said. He said that at present there is continuous snowfall in Kedarnath Dham and the yatra is being controlled. Passengers are not allowed to go to Kedarnath after 10:30 am from Sonprayag. Appealing to all the passengers, he said, "All the passengers should take special care of their safety and cooperate with the district administration by following the guidelines issued by the state government and the district administration." He expected all the pilgrims to start their journey to Kedarnath only when the weather is fine. Earlier on April 25 the day the doors of Kedarnath Dham opened, the Uttarakhand government stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in view of heavy snowfall on the pilgrimage route and a warning of inclement weather by the Met Department. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the heavy snowfall on the Kedarnath Dham route. The weather is expected to remain inclement in Kedarghati over this week, according to an official statement. "The weather is expected to remain bad in Kedarghati for the next one week. On the alert of the Meteorological Department, the state government has stopped the registration of the visit to Kedarnath Dham. The heavy snowfall in Kedarnath has created difficulties for the administration," read the statement. "Registration of pilgrims for the Kedarnath pilgrimage has been stopped in view of the snowfall of three to four feet on the Kedarnath pedestrian route and Dham and the warning by the Mete Department," it added. The Yatra began from Yamunotri Dham on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. —ANI

Rudraprayag : After two weeks of rainfall and snowfall, Kedarnath Yatra in Uttarkhand, which was halted due to inclement weather resumed on Thursday.
Following continuous snowfall and bad weather, the registration of pilgrims for Kedarnath had got suspended on Wednesday.
"Due to bad weather and snowfall in Kedarnath, the registration of pilgrims for Kedarnath has been stopped till tomorrow May 3. The decision regarding registration will be taken keeping in view the weather conditions," Mayur Dixit, Rudraprayag District Magistrate (DM) said.
On Monday, the Meteorological Department had issued an alert of rain and snowfall in the high Himalayan regions for the next two to three days.
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that an appeal has been made for the safety of the pilgrims coming to visit Kedarnath Dham. The Kedarnath temple is one of the most revered temples in the country dedicated to Lord Shiva and people from across the country visit the temple during the six months when the temple is open.
