Delhi (The Hawk): India has been unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-2024 at the recently held meeting of the Executive board and General Assembly at Manila, Philippines on May 7, 2022. Commission on Elections, Manila was the current chair of AAEA. The new member in the Executive Board now includes Russia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Taiwan and Philippines.The Election Commission of India 3-member delegation headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Shri Nitesh Vyas, along with CEO Manipur Shri Rajesh Agrawl and CEO Rajasthan Shri Praveen Gupta, attended the Executive Board meeting at Manila and presented the work plan for 2022-23 as also futuristic activities for 2023-24 to the Executive Board. A presentation on ‘Gender Issues in Elections’ was also given, highlighting various concerted and targeted interventions by India to break socio-political barriers in electoral and political processes for inclusive and participative elections.The mission of the Association of Asian Election Authorities is to provide a non-partisan forum in the Asian region for sharing experiences and best practices among election authorities to discuss and act upon ways to promote open and transparent elections with the objective of supporting good governance and democracy.Officials from many AAEA member countries have been regularly attending International Training Programmes conducted by India International Institute for Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) from time to time. Since 2019, more than 250 officials from AAEA member countries have attended these programmes. IIIDEM also conducts customised capacity development training programs for specific AAEA member countries. 50 officials of Bangladesh Election Commission were trained during 2021-22.Delegates from AAEA have also been regularly participating in the International Election Visitors Programme organised by Election Commission of India. 62 officials from 12 AAEA members participated in the 3rd International Virtual Election Visitors Programme (IEVP) hosted by ECI during Assembly Elections in 2022. Chennai: After the Madras High Court restricted Internet Service Providers (ISP) and over 1000 websites from unauthorised screening or copying of the Kamal Haasan starrer 'Vikram', releasing on June 3, the superstar's production house Raaj Kamal Films International is on high alert. The production house has communicated to all the Internet Service Providers and sites that stringent legal action would be taken if the movie is copied or transmitted.Madras High Court judge, Justice Saravanan had on a petition filed by R. Murali Krishnan of Raaj Kamal Films International, restrained 29 ISPs including BSNL, Vodafone idea, Airtel, and Reliance Jio and 1308 websites from unauthorised copying or transmission of "Vikram", the complete movie or in parts. The movie produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj with Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahad Fazil playing major characters is all set for a worldwide release on 1000 screens on June 3.The advocate of the petitioner, Vijayan Subramanian submitted to the court that when the film is released on June 3, the websites would illegally copy, record, download, reproduce, transmit, and communicate the copyright-protected movie. The applicant also said that the 1308 websites have the potential to upload and enable third parties to copy, reproduce, distribute and display the film through 29 ISPs which amounts to infringement of the applicant's copyright. "Vikram" is one of the most awaited movies of 2022 and Raaj Kamal Films International is worried that if the movie is copied or reproduced, it would amount to major financial losses including to those with whom the producers had entered into agreements for the purpose of marketing, promotion, communication, etc.—IANS

Preliminary probe has found that a gang operating on the border of Bihar and Jharkhand is conducting such frauds. “We are even receiving complaints from other states,” he added.According to one such victim, she paid a sum of Rs 50,000 for a trip to the shrines but she and her family members were not allowed to board the helicopter in Dehradun. The reason, she was told, was that the tickets that she had ‘booked’ were fake. As per the complaint, the victim got a call from a man claiming himself to be an agent of Pawan Hans Ltd, based in Dehradun. On making the payment, the helicopter tickets were sent on WhatsApp after the fraudster took their Aadhar card, passport and Covid-19 vaccination details. It was only at the time of boarding that it was found that all such tickets were fake. Police officials have advised people not to opt for private companies and to ensure that a government authorised heli-service website for the Char Dham Yatra is being used and confirm the same from the tourism department. Moscow: The website of Russia's Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities appeared to have been hacked, with an internet search for the site leading to a "Glory to Ukraine" sign in Ukrainian. Russia's state news agency RIA late on Sunday quoted a ministry representative as saying that the site was down but users' personal data were protected.RIA said that other media had reported that hackers were demanding a ransom to prevent the public disclosure of users' data. Reuters was not able to ascertain which media outlets were being cited by the RIA. Many Russian state-owned companies and news organisations have suffered sporadic hacking attempts since Russia sent its armed forces into Ukraine on Feb. 24.Hacking attacks in early May kept video-hosting site RuTube offline for three days and altered satellite television menus in Moscow on Victory Day, when Russia celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. Separately, Ukraine’s UNIAN news agency reported on Sunday that the broadcast of the Ukraine-Wales soccer match by OLL.TV online was temporarily hacked. Reuters was not able to verify that report. Washington: The powerful next-generation James Webb Space Telescope has released a treasure trove of full-colour images from deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date to cosmic cliffs, birthplace of stars, blackhole, dying star's final "performance", as well as the atmosphere of distant planet.The $10 billion Webb telescope, is an international programme led by NASA, European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency.The images, taken by Webb's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI), marks the climax of nearly seven months of carefully orchestrated space operations since the telescope launched on December 25, 2021The first image shows the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 as it appeared 4.6 billion years ago. The combined mass of this galaxy cluster acts as a gravitational lens, magnifying much more distant galaxies behind it.Another is a landscape of "mountains" and "valleys" speckled with glittering stars. It is actually the edge of a nearby, young, star-forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina Nebula. Captured in infrared light by Webb, this image reveals for the first time previously invisible areas of star birth.Called the Cosmic Cliffs, Webb's seemingly three-dimensional picture looks like craggy mountains on a moonlit evening. In reality, it is the edge of the giant, gaseous cavity within NGC 3324, and the tallest "peaks" in this image are about 7 light-years high. It also sheds light on the process of star formation.In another enormous new image, the telescope reveals never-before-seen details of a group of five galaxies called "Stephan's Quintet".The close proximity of Stephan's Quintet gives astronomers a ringside seat to galactic mergers, interactions"This enormous mosaic is Webb's largest image to date, covering about one-fifth of the Moon's diameter. It contains over 150 million pixels and is constructed from almost 1,000 separate image files. The information from Webb provides new insights into how galactic interactions may have driven galaxy evolution in the early universe," NASA said.Webb's new image shows in rare detail how interacting galaxies trigger star formation in each other and how gas in galaxies is being disturbed.The image also shows outflows driven by a black hole in Stephan's Quintet in a level of detail never seen before.Tight galaxy groups like this may have been more common in the early universe when superheated, infalling material may have fueled very energetic black holes.The telescope also revealed details of the Southern Ring planetary nebula that were previously hidden from astronomers. Planetary nebulae are the shells of gas and dust ejected from dying stars.Webb's powerful infrared view brings this nebula's second star into full view, along with exceptional structures created as the stars shape the gas and dust around them."New details like these, from the late stages of a star's life, will help us better understand how stars evolve and transform their environments," NASA said.The images also reveal a cache of distant galaxies in the background. Most of the multi-coloured points of light seen here are galaxies - not stars. Further Webb's enormous mirror, precise instruments joined forces to capture most detailed measurements of starlight filtering through the atmosphere of a planet outside our solar system to date. The spectrum of light measured by Webb's Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) contains information about the makeup of a planetary atmosphere 1,150 light-years away. It revealed a distinct signature of water.The strength of the signal that Webb detected hints at the significant role the telescope will play in the search for potentially habitable planets in coming years.Webb's powerful new view also shows evidence of haze and clouds that previous studies of this planet did not detect.The telescope's first full-colour images and spectroscopic data culminates Webb's commissioning process, and marks the official beginning of its science mission, NASA said. About 13 per cent say it has been a bad investment. New Delhi (The Hawk): Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur today said that in 2021-22 the Ministry has taken strong action against YouTube channels working against the interest of the country. Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha, Shri Thakur said the Ministry has acted against 94 YouTube channels, 19 social media accounts and 747 URLs and got them blocked. These actions have been taken under the Section 69A Information Technology Act 2000.The Minister further said that the Government has strongly acted against agencies working against the sovereignty of the country by spreading fake news and spreading propaganda on internet.

Washington: The powerful next-generation James Webb Space Telescope may have likely spotted its first supernova, according to astronomers.According to Mike Engesser of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), the object is extremely bright compared to the rest of the galaxy.And Webb observed the galaxy, called SDSS.J141930.11+5251593, twice, five days apart; the object dimmed, just slightly, over those five days -- classic supernova behaviour, Inverse reported."We suspect it's a supernova," Engesser was quoted as saying."We would need more time series data to make a determination, but the data we do have does match that of a supernova, so it's a very good candidate," he added.The $10 billion Webb telescope, is an international programme led by NASA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency. The telescope's actual aim is to solve mysteries in our solar system, look beyond distant worlds around other stars, and probe the mysterious structures and origins of our universe and our place in it. "Primarily, it's exciting because we have shown that we're able to find and detect new transients with Webb, which was something that JWST is not designed to do. But it's one of the things we're showing we're able to do in sort of an ad hoc way," he noted.Webb is designed to look much, much deeper into smaller patches of sky. The telescope's first deep-field image, released on July 12, covers an area of sky that one could cover with a grain of sand held at arm's length."So the actual likelihood that you'll find a transient in the field you're looking at is fairly small -- or at least we thought it would be small," Engesser said. Srinagar: Amid reports that its student data base was spotted on 'dark web' officials of the Kashmir University said on Wednesday that University's data base was 'unmodified' and the reported breach was being analysed.
It was reported by an independent media outlet that the data base of Kashmir University has been put on sale for $250 on a hacking forum by "ViktorLusting".
The media report said that the threat actor has shared a database index to show the data he has in his possession.
"It claims to include student information, registration number, phone number, email address, password, employee data and more.
"The database is listed on Breached Forums, the famous hacking forum that gained international attention earlier this month with a data breach exposing over 1 billion Chinese residents", the report said.
Meanwhile Kashmir University in a statement said that the students data base is "unmodified and that further analysis is going on in the matter.
"We are analysing the alleged breach. Our preliminary analysis shows that the data base is unmodified. Further analysis is going on. The university will take further courses of action and take an appropriate legal recourse accordingly.
"Any breach in data read, which is accessible in public domain, has been found unmodified as per preliminary analysis," the spokesman of the University said. —IANS

She elaborated that Venetoclax acts by inducing the apoptotic pathways in the myeloma cells. Dr. Richa concluded her talk by highlighting that an assay based on estimating the Succinate ubiquitin dehydrogenase (SQR) enzyme activity, could come up as a potential tool for examining the efficacy of venetocalx in the treatment of blood cancer patients, before subjecting them to high doses of the drug.

New Delhi: In the era, when so many authentic/branded outlets are available, both digitally and physically to buy things, netizens are still falling prey to the web of ‘fake clothing websites’ and losing their hard-earned money.
With each passing day, as more people use the Internet, digital fraud has become a dangerous trend.
Time and again, the police across the country alert and make the people aware about these online frauds. But every time, the thugs manage to trap people with new techniques. The latest one is fake clothing websites, which are duping customers in the name of providing less expensive products.
Notably, the Mumbai Police had last year informed people about these websites and even named a few. But the cheats acted smart and changed old with new domain!&nbsp;
Netizens get robbed from the websites, which pop up on social media. On those clothing selling platforms, people are shown branded clothes at very low prices from the market rate.&nbsp;
Having the option of buying branded clothes at low prices, people get tempted. They start shopping on those websites without thinking about any fraud.
Money transactions take place through debit or credit cards. As soon as the payment is done, a message is also sent to the buyer’s phone that ‘your goods will reach your home in 2-3 days’. This makes the buyer feel that the website is authentic.
However, the delivery never comes. After waiting for three-four days, buyers go to the link shared on message, and face the reality. The website doesn’t open and this is when people realise that they have been cheated.&nbsp;
Next to impossible or rather no, says a Delhi Police official on the condition of anonymity.
Speaking to IANS, the officer said that people must buy only from the reputed, authentic websites.
“And moreover, if there is no Cash on Delivery option, better avoid them. These frauds keep changing their locations and website names which make it difficult for the police to nab them. We have made a few arrests too. People sometimes avoid filing reports (FIR). But I would suggest that they file complaints so that police get alert and also alert the people," the officer pointed out.&nbsp;
“Sasta lalach adami ko fasa deta hai. Police had arrested an IT expert in this regard earlier. Using fake websites selling household items, the accused duped more than 22,000 people for more than Rs 70-80 lakh," he added.
Police repeatedly make netizens cautious about fake shopping websites and ask netizens to remain aware, but cheaters act smart, remain one step ahead and take hard-earned money from the people.

New Delhi: NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has captured new stunning images of Jupiter that will give scientists even more clues to the planet's inner life.
With giant storms, powerful winds, auroras, and extreme temperature and pressure conditions, Jupiter has a lot going on.
In the standalone view of Jupiter, created from a composite of several images from Webb, auroras extend to high altitudes above both the northern and southern poles of Jupiter.
The auroras shine in a filter that is mapped to redder colours, which also highlights light reflected from lower clouds and upper hazes, NASA said in a statement. A different filter, mapped to yellows and greens, shows hazes swirling around the northern and southern poles. A third filter, mapped to blues, showcases light that is reflected from a deeper main cloud.
"We hadn't really expected it to be this good, to be honest. It's really remarkable that we can see details on Jupiter together with its rings, tiny satellites, and even galaxies in one image," said planetary astronomer Imke de Pater, professor emerita of the University of California, Berkeley.
The Great Red Spot, a famous storm so big it could swallow Earth, appears white in these views, as do other clouds, because they are reflecting a lot of sunlight.
"The brightness here indicates high altitude - so the Great Red Spot has high-altitude hazes, as does the equatorial region," said Heidi Hammel, Webb interdisciplinary scientist for solar system observations.
In a wide-field view, Webb sees Jupiter with its faint rings, which are a million times fainter than the planet, and two tiny moons called Amalthea and Adrastea. "This one image sums up the science of our Jupiter system program, which studies the dynamics and chemistry of Jupiter itself, its rings, and its satellite system," said Thierry Fouchet, a professor at the Paris Observatory.
The $10 billion Webb telescope is an international programme led by NASA, European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency.
The telescope's aim is to solve mysteries in our solar system, look beyond distant worlds around other stars, and probe the mysterious structures and origins of our universe and our place in it. —IANS

San Francisco: Google-owned streaming platform YouTube is rolling out a new video page that tweaks several elements and, most notably, unifies the design across Android, iOS, and the web. According to 9To5Google, the highlight of this redesign is the use of pill-shaped buttons for key elements. For example, instead of being two distinct buttons, thumbs up/down and the like count are housed in one container. Share, Create (Shorts), Download, and other things users frequently interact with get the same treatment, the report said. Meanwhile, that carousel (on mobile) is now underneath channel details, with that information coming after the video title, view count, publish date, and hashtags. This new design might also coincide with "Ambient Mode" that allows the bottom of a video to bleed into the description section and system status bar for a more immersive experience. However, this can be optionally enabled/disabled from the overflow menu. Another key change with this revamps places the top comment in a more prominent container that stands out on the screen. This technique might ultimately prove successful in getting people to engage more. Things are slightly different on the desktop, with the video description getting the visual call out, something that Creators should benefit from, as per the report. This revamp has been slowly appearing for more users in recent weeks but is not yet widely rolled out.&nbsp;

Washington: NASAs James Webb Space Telescope has captured its first images and spectra of Mars that show a region of the planets eastern hemisphere at two different wavelengths, or colours of infrared light.
Whereas the images show differences in brightness integrated over a large number of wavelengths from place to place across the planet at a particular day and time, the spectrum shows the subtle variations in brightness between hundreds of different wavelengths representative of the planet as a whole.
Astronomers will analyse the features of the spectrum to gather additional information about the surface and atmosphere of the planet, said NASA.
Principal investigator Geronimo Villanueva of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and his team released Webb’s first near-infrared spectrum of Mars, demonstrating Webb’s power to study the Red Planet with spectroscopy.
Since it is so close, the Red Planet is one of the brightest objects in the night sky in terms of both visible light (which human eyes can see) and the infrared light that Webb is designed to detect.
This poses special challenges to the observatory, which was built to detect the extremely faint light of the most distant galaxies in the universe.
Webb’s instruments are so sensitive that without special observing techniques, the bright infrared light from Mars is blinding, causing a phenomenon known as “detector saturation,” said NASA.
Astronomers adjusted for Mars’ extreme brightness by using very short exposures, measuring only some of the light that hit the detectors, and applying special data analysis techniques. In the future, the Mars team will use this imaging and spectroscopic data to explore regional differences across the planet, and to search for trace gases in the atmosphere, including methane and hydrogen chloride. —IANS

New York: US-based space agency NASA has announced that its James Webb Space Telescope has captured the clearest view of Neptune's rings in more than 30 years.
Most striking in Webb's new image is the crisp view of the planet's rings -- some of which have not been detected since NASA's Voyager 2 became the first spacecraft to observe Neptune during its flyby in 1989. In addition to several bright, narrow rings, the Webb image clearly shows Neptune's fainter dust bands.
"It has been three decades since we last saw these faint, dusty rings, and this is the first time we've seen them in the infrared," Heidi Hammel, a Neptune system expert and interdisciplinary scientist for Webb, said in a statement.
According to NASA, Webb's extremely stable and precise image quality permits these very faint rings to be detected so close to Neptune.
Webb also captured seven of Neptune's 14 known moons. Dominating this Webb portrait of Neptune is a very bright point of light sporting the signature diffraction spikes seen in many of Webb's images, but this is not a star. Rather, this is Neptune's large and unusual moon, Triton.
Covered in a frozen sheen of condensed nitrogen, Triton reflects an average of 70 per cent of the sunlight that hits it. It far outshines Neptune in this image because the planet's atmosphere is darkened by methane absorption at these near-infrared wavelengths. Neptune has fascinated researchers since its discovery in 1846. It is 30 times farther from the Sun than Earth, and it orbits in the remote, dark region of the outer solar system. This planet is characterised as an ice giant due to the chemical make-up of its interior. —IANS
