Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held discussions on Friday with the Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation, Vimlendra Sharan, and United Nations Development Program Deputy Country Representative, Malin Herwig, regarding the current food situation in the country, according to Prime Minister's Media Division. In the meeting, Sri Lanka Prime Minister explained that in the view of the food shortage, a food security programme was being compiled by the agriculture department officials. This program is due to be unveiled next month, with the UNDP expressing their support for the initiative.According to the release, "He (Ranil Wickremesinghe) stated that the biggest issue currently facing the agriculture sector is the fertiliser and fuel shortage." The Press release further stated that the Prime Minister also elaborated on the urban agriculture initiative that he had established to try and overcome a potential food shortage."The UNDP explained that they were compiling an innovative farming assistance program which would help the farming community overcome the fertiliser shortage," the release said. During the meeting, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations explained that the donors had taken a step forward to assist the country in the urban agriculture program. The organization was hopeful that successful implementation would see more financial support provided.According to the release, "The FAO also stated they were drafting a food crisis response plan that can be enacted in Sri Lanka." Sri Lanka's Prime Minister explained that within 5-6 months the current agriculture shortages could be salvaged if swift action was taken to address the shortages faced by the farmers.Meanwhile, PM Wickremesinghe, in a meeting with representatives from the Joint Chambers on Thursday, explained that the Government was targeting USD 5 billion for repayments and USD 1 billion to bolster the country's reserves. During the meeting, Wickremesinghe elaborated that discussions with the International Monetary Fund are proceeding and was hopeful that the negotiations would end this month. He further explained that the debt restructuring has already begun, following the appointment of financial and legal advisors. Sri Lanka's Prime Minister said that any bridging finance to help in alleviating the crisis is dependent on an agreement with the IMF being reached. Dehradun (The Hawk):&nbsp;RCPSDC joins hands with Government of Uttarakhand (UKSDM) and UNDP Government of Uttarakhand (UKSDM) and Rubber, Chemical &amp; Petrochemical Skill Development Council (RCPSDC) organised a Skill Meet cum Workshop in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for a large number of Rubber &amp; Plastic industries present in the state.&nbsp;The meet was aimed at fostering an ecosystem of skill development in the Rubber, Chemical and Petrochemical sectors. The highlight of the day was the inauguration of RCPSDC’s Project Utthaan - Uplifting lives of Plastic Waste Management Workforce. A Mobile Skill Van under the project Utthaan was inaugurated and flagged off by honourable Shri Vijay Kumar Yadav IAS, Secretary, Skill Development and Employment, Government of Uttarakhand and other dignitaries on the occasion.&nbsp;The skill van, under the Utthaan project will roam around the state of Uttarakhand and provide skill training to plastic rag pickers, segregators, and other labourers at plastic recyclers in the unorganised sector and help them perform their job roles more efficiently. Initially RCPSDC has been mandated by UKSDM to undertake skill training of 200 rag pickers in Dehradun under the job role of Plastic Waste Segregator. Mr Kishore P Sampat, President, All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA) graced the occasion as the Guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vijay Kumar Yadav IAS exhorted the industry to come forward with requirements of skilled manpower which are placement linked. Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission (UKSDM) will be keen to organise such trainings that matches the requirements of the industry, he said. “Rubber &amp; Plastic industries have a significant presence in Uttarakhand holding immense potential for growth resulting in employment opportunities for a large number of youth. However formal skilling of the youth and reskilling of existing workforce is a must to increase competitiveness of the sector. We are thankful to Government of Uttarakhand (UKSM) for mentoring this one-of-its-kind conclave with the industry”, said Mr Vinod Patkotwar, Chairman RCPSDC. Shri Prakash is an Officer of the Indian Information Service, Batch of 1988. New Delhi [India]: Judges from different countries on Tuesday joined the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Judges from overseas including Ivory Coast, South Sudan, Cameroon, Botswana and Ghana, among others, were present at the apex court on Tuesday and attended court proceedings. CJI Chandrachud welcomed the judges from overseas to the Supreme Court saying, "I have very great pleasure in welcoming all of you to our court."  The judges from the offices of justice overseas are in the national capital to attend the first regional conference on Access to Legal Aid.
The National Legal Services Authority, India (NALSA), together with the International Legal Foundation (ILF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), is hosting the first regional conference on Access to Legal Aid in Delhi. The event kicked off on November 27, Monday, and will give over on Tuesday. The objective behind hosting this event is to address the challenges in ensuring access to quality legal aid services in the countries that comprise the Global South.  The conference has brought together Chief Justices, Ministers of Justice, legal aid officers, policymakers, and civil society experts from 70 Africa-Asia-Pacific countries of the Global South to discuss the challenges and opportunities in ensuring access to quality legal aid services for the poor and vulnerable. The conference provides a platform for sharing best practices and identifying innovative solutions to improve access to justice in the participating countries. More than 200 delegates are taking part in the two-day conference.
