New Delhi:&nbsp;A 23-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his friend near the Ramlila Ground in the national capital, an official said on Sunday.The deceased, identified as Abhishek alias Chhanga (23), a resident of Shalimar Bagh, was found lying in an injured condition around 2.00 a.m. by an Emergency Response Vehicle of the police during patrolling near Ramlila Ground in northwest Delhi."The injured man was immediately rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial hospital where he was declared brought dead with a gunshot injury in the chest," Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Usha Rangnani said. During inquiry, it was revealed that the deceased Abhishek had gone to meet one of his friends near Ramleela Ground, Azadpur. "There they had some heated arguments over some issue and during this heated conversation, his friend got agitated and allegedly shot the deceased Abhishek on his chest," the DCP said.Accordingly, the police registered an FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Adarsh Nagar police station and began probing the matter."Witnesses are being examined. We have identified the assailant and raids are being conducted to nab him," the senior official added. —IANS

New Delhi: Cabinet ministers and TV actors will try to bring to life the aeons-old story of Lord Ram at the 10-day-long Ramlila in New Delhi, which has been promised to be bigger than ever by its organisers. The Ramlila, arguably the grandest in the city, will be held at the Red Fort ground from September 26. It will culminate on Dussehra day next month.
The Luv Kush Ramlila will also see Baahubali-fame actor Prabhas burning the effigy of Raavan on Dussehra.
Arjun Kumar, president of Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, said the committee will put up a model of the ’Kartavya Path' at the Ramlila venue, complete with a green carpet and flower pots along the length of it.&nbsp;
The ground will also be decorated with 75 flags to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's independence.
The main entrance gate of the Ramlila will have Lord Ram's picture adorning it. It has been christened as’Ram Dwar' and will welcome those coming from the Daryaganj side.&nbsp;
The other gate will be called the ‘Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dwar' and will have his idol, carved in imitation of the one on Kartavya Path, at the entrance.&nbsp;
Kumar said that the committee has invited President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Dussehra and their confirmation is awaited.
"Luv Kush Ramlila Committee will make a 180X60 feet three-storey stage at the Red Fort ground. A big Ram Mandir will be constructed atop the stage and the ’leela' will happen inside the Ram Mandir.
”This will be the biggest stage ever used for Ramlila. Until now, it used to be 120X48 feet," he told PTI.
Kumar said three cabinet ministers will also be a part of the Ramlila.&nbsp;
Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, who holds several portfolios, will play the role of Rishi Vashishth, while Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste will essay the role of Rishi Agastya. Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal will be singing bhajans, he added.
Northeast Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari will play the role of Kewat.
Veteran actor Asrani will play the role of Naarad while TV actor Nirbhay Wadhwa, who has played Hanuman in the show Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman, will reprise that role.
Akhilendra Mishra, known for his varied roles in Bollywood and TV, and remembered for his portrayal of Kroor Singh in the cult series Chandrakanta, will play the role of demon god Raavan. Mumbai-based makeup artist Vishnu Patil will be stationed in Delhi for the duration of Ramlila. The actors' clothes also will be designed by a Bollywood fashion designer, Kumar added.

Fatehpur: In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old man, playing the role of Hanuman in a Ramlila, died on stage during his performance in Salempur village of Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district.
Ram Swaroop, suffered a heart attack during his performance and died on Saturday night. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
"During Ramlila's presentation, soon after the tail of Hanuman was set afire, Ram Swaroop, who was playing the character, slumped to the ground and died within a minute. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead," an official said.&nbsp;
Ram Swaroop's wife Anusuiya and other family members were present when the incident took place.
Village head Gulab said Ram Swaroop used to ferry a cart to make his living.
"He is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter, Roopa," he said.
The family performed the last rites of the body on Sunday evening without informing the police.
Station house officer, Dhata, Praveen Kumar said the incident had come to his notice and a police team would visit the village to investigate the matter.&nbsp;

New Delhi: A heavy contingent of police has been deployed at Delhi's Ramlila ground ahead of Kisan Mahapanchayat being organised by Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Monday, an official said here.  The rally is scheduled to start around 11 a.m.  According to a senior police official, more than 2,000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure that the event goes peacefully and law and order is maintained.  Meanwhile, in view of Kisan Mahapanchayat, the Delhi Traffic Police has also issued an advisory and said that around 20,000 to 25,000 participants are likely to attend and commuters are hereby advised to avoid roads around Ramlila Ground specially JLN Marg from Delhi Gate to Ajmeri Gate Chowk.  "Since 9 a.m, traffic restrictions/regulation/diversion have been imposed on Ranjeet Singh flyover from Barakhamba Road to Guru Nanak Chowk, from Minto Road to Kamla Market ,Vivekanand Marg, JLN Marg ( Delhi gate to Guru Nanak Chowk), Kamla Market to Guru Nanak Chowk," stated the advisory. New Delhi: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien has written to the Delhi Police seeking permission to set up pandals and also arrange the night stay for over 50,000 people at Ramlila ground in the central Delhi for the MGNREGA workers coming from West Bengal to hold a protest at several locations in the national capital.
In a letter to the DCP of the Delhi Police, O’Brien, who is also the Rajya Sabha MP said, “With reference to my letter dated August 30 and August 31, 2023 requesting for permission for the All India Trinamool Congress to set up pandals or tents and arrange accommodation or night stay for about 50,000 people at Ramlila Maidan from September 30 to October 4, 2023 for MGNREGA workers from Bengal who will be holding dharna at different locations in Delhi.”
“We are yet to receive a response regarding the same. Request for an update at the earliest,” he added.
Earlier this month, the Trinamool Congress leader wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Parliament Street Police Station, and claimed that workers from West Bengal have been denied wages under the MGNREGA scheme.

New Delhi [India]: Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena will organise a memorial service for slain chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan at 11 am on Sunday. Gogamedi was shot dead by three assailants on December 5 at his residence in the Shyam Nagar area of Jaipur.
Two of the shooters, who fled the scene in the wake of the killing, were identified as Nitin Fauji and Rohit Rathod while the third, Naveen Shekhawat, was shot dead in an exchange of fire with the police. One of Gogamedi's security guards was injured in the crossfire, as per the police. Earlier, on Sunday, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, in a joint operation with Rajasthan Police, detained three persons, including two absconding accused, from Chandigarh in connection with the murder of the Karni Sena chief. The police confirmed that Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji were among those arrested during the joint operation. All three accused were brought to Delhi, the officials informed.  Earlier, on Saturday, December 9, Jaipur police arrested Ramveer Singh, a resident of Mahendragarh, Haryana, in connection to Gogamedi's murder. During the investigation, it came to light that Ramveer had been a facilitator for Nitin Fauji, one of the assailants, the commissioner of Jaipur Police said in an official statement. He added on November 9, Fauji and his associates opened fire on the police of Mahendragarh Police Station Sadar and fled. During this period, Fauji sent his friend Ramveer to Jaipur on November 19.

New Delhi [India]: All the parties of the Opposition bloc INDIA will hold a joint mega rally on March 31 to register their protest against Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the alleged Liquor policy money laundering case, party MP Raghav Chadha said on Sunday. The AAP leader in a post on X, said that the rally will be held to "save the country's democracy" and stand in solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal.
"INDIA that is Bharat, will unitedly protest against Arvind Kejriwal Ji's illegal and outrightly political arrest. All INDIA parties to hold a joint mega rally on 31st March," Chadha said. He further said that the mega rally will take place at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital. "Historic Ramlila Maidan in Delhi will witness lacs of people coming together to save India's democracy and stand in solidarity with #ArvindKejriwal," he added. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier in the week on charges of corruption in the Delhi excise policy case. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in formulating and implementing the Delhi excise policy 2021-22, which was later scrapped. While Kejriwal was not named in the FIRs registered by the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Delhi excise policy case, his name first found a mention in the ED's chargesheet wherein the agency claimed that he allegedly spoke to one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, in a video call and asked him to continue working with co-accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair. Nair was among the first people to be arrested by CBI in the case, in 2022. Subsequently, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh were arrested in connection with the case. Several leaders of the INDIA bloc have come out in support of Arvind Kejriwal and accused the BJP and the Union government of arm-twisting the opposition. However, the BJP has denied all the allegations. INDIA bloc is a coalition of over 20 opposition parties formed last year to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in the general elections, dates for which were announced earlier in the month. Meanwhile, in response to the protests held by the AAP workers in Delhi against the arrest of Kejriwal, Bhartiya Janata Party workers, in the presence of Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, staged a demonstration and burned effigies of the Delhi CM.
 Speaking to ANI, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said, "Holi is a festival of goodness over evil. Today we have done the Holika dahan of corruption.
