Fatehpur (UP) : &nbsp;A man was arrested here on Sunday for allegedly killing his brother's wife by hitting her on the head with a shovel following an argument, police said. Around 8.30 pm on Saturday, Balram Nishad (55) visited the house of his brother's wife, Rani Devi (56), in Majra Joga village here and the two had an argument over working in fields, the police said. During the argument, the accused hit Rani on the head with a shovel, leaving her seriously injured. She was rushed to a government hospital by her relatives and was declared brought dead by doctors, they said. Nishad was arrested from the village this morning, the police said. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, they said. --- (PTI)

Balrampur (The Hawk): In the Balrampur area of Uttar Pradesh, three women have been detained after police booked seven people for allegedly pressuring a Nishad community family to convert to another religion.
According to authorities, the accused allegedly threatened the family, telling them to cooperate or leave the area.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the seven accused under a number of laws, including the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
According to a police spokesman, the incident happened in the predominantly minority Jafrabad neighbourhood where the complainant's family, Deepa Nishad, resides.
The neighbours are accused of harassing the family.
He claimed that four men, Amirzade, Irfan, Sonu, and Afreed, as well as three women, Sahajadi, Moharma, and Sahiba, were named in the FIR.
Rajesh Kumar Saxena, the superintendent of police in Balrampur, stated that additional arrests would be made while the case was being probed after the three women were taken into custody.
The complainant said that the seven individuals frequently put pressure on her to sell her home in the predominantly Muslim neighbourhood. Additionally, the neighbours allegedly made death threats against her and her family.
According to a different police source, the complainant also claimed that the three arrested ladies once broke into her home and spat on the family's May temple, an incident that she had videotaped.
He claimed that once she publicised the footage, the police took action against the culprits. He stated that the culprits had been arrested on suspicion of conversion to another religion and temple desecration.
According to the police source, there may have been a disagreement about a drain before things got out of hand.
He stated that they had a similar altercation on December 20 that resulted in stone-pelting.
He continued that after the police intervened, the situation was resolved amicably.

Bengaluru: US Treasury Secretary Janet L Yellen on Saturday held a meeting with the chief of various IT companies like Infosys Technologies Limited Nandan Nilekani, Wipro's head Nishad Premji and others in Bengaluru.
Yellen, who arrived in India for the G20 Finance Ministers meet, had addressed the roundtable with US and Indian tech business leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in southern Bengaluru city on Saturday.
Yellen, in the roundtable meeting, said that under the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and investment (PGII), the US announced investments in agri-tech to enable climate-smart agricultural production, and in digital payments systems for microentrepre-neurs. Yellen said going forward, "I am eager to deepen our ties in the technology sector." She said the US was advancing an approach called "friend-shoring" to bolster the resilience of its supply chains.
The treasury secretary said, "We are doing this by strengthening integration with our many trusted trading partners -- including India. We are seeing progress; as an example; technology companies like Apple and Google have expanded their phone production in India."
Yellen said through the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII), the US is investing in digital technologies that will drive inclusive and resilient growth in India.
She said these stand alongside investments in renewable energy, health and other infrastructure sectors in India. Overall, the United States aims to mobilise USD 200 billion through 2027 for PGII, and we look forward to partnering with India to continue investing in its future, the US treasury secretary said in a statement released on Saturday morning.
Yellen said one of the most rewarding parts of my job is meeting with innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders across the globe and this is especially true in India, which has one of the most dynamic economies in the world.
Yellen said the US is India's biggest trading partner. She said in 2021, bilateral trade between the two countries was over USD 150 billion.
"Our people-to-people ties affirm the closeness of our relationship. 200,000 Indians are studying in America and enriching our schools and universities," she said. Yellen said, "We depend on each other on a daily basis: Indians use WhatsApp to communicate and many American companies rely on Infosys to operate."

Lucknow: Voting for the byelection to two vacant seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council for which both the BJP and the Samajwadi Party have fielded candidates began here on Monday.
The polling began at 9 am and will continue till 4 pm. The counting of votes will begin at 5 pm. The results are likely to be declared by the evening.
Based on its numerical strength in the legislative assembly, the BJP is comfortably placed to secure victory for both its candidates. An Assembly Secretariat official said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Finance Minister Suresh Khanna were among those who cast their votes in the morning. The bypolls to the two seats were necessitated by the resignation of Laxman Acharya and the death of Banwari Lal Dohre. The tenure of Acharya, who was made the governor of Sikkim, was to last till January 2027 while Dohre’s term was to expire in July 2028.
The BJP has fielded Manvendra Singh and Padamsen Chowdhary while Ram Jatan Rajbhar and Ramkaran Nirmal are contesting for the Samajwadi Party. The notification for the bypolls was issued on May 11 with May 18 the last day to file nominations.
Only members of the assembly are eligible to vote in the legislative council elections. The BJP has 255 MLAs in the 403-member assembly while allies Apna Dal (Sonelal) has 13 and the NISHAD Party six. The Samajwadi Party has 109 MLAs and its ally the Rashtriya Lok Dal has nine. The Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party has six MLAs, the Congress and the Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) have two each and the Bahujan Samaj Party has one. —PTI

Lucknow: The Nishad Party in Uttar Pradesh is strengthening its presence on the social media.
To develop a direct connection with its supporters and create better coordination between party workers, the Nishad Party has launched a mobile app, Nishad Party Official.
It will be managed by the party's IT cell headquartered in Lucknow.
The app has every information about the party's upcoming and ongoing programmes, news related to the party appearing in different media and messages from national president, Sanjay Nishad.
State president of the party, Ravindra Mani Nishad said that the app can be downloaded by everyone who wants to follow the party.
On April 15, the party had conducted a three-day state-wide training of its IT cell heads. The training focussed on ways to amplify party's presence on social media.
It motivated cadres to join social media platforms to establish a direct communication with the target audience.
Later, the party launched an exclusive mobile app that can be downloaded for free from google play store.
By now, it has got more than 5,000 downloads. The party leaders and workers can use the app to mobilise cadre, send push notifications and collect donations, he said.
Similarly, the app will help the party to reach out to the target audience, like minorities, swing voters and youth.
In addition to the app, the party has asked its IT cell heads and party in charge of every district and division to have a firm presence on Facebook, which has the widest reach.
The efforts were staggered before the party put in place a strategy to take up one social media platform at a time.
In the April training, the IT cell heads and in charge of districts and divisions were told that Facebook is a more common platform while Twitter may be meant more for an educated opinion.
They were given a separate PowerPoint presentation on Facebook, twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, reddit and YouTube. —IANS

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Minister and president of Nishad Party, Dr Sanjay Nishad, has written a letter to the central and state government seeking a CBI probe into the murder of Phoolan Devi.
He has also demanded that Phoolan Devi's property should be freed from encroachment and given to her mother Mula Devi.
Phoolan Devi, a former 'Bandit Queen' who became an MP, was assassinated in July 2001.
Sanjay Nishad has written in his letter, "Former MP sister heroine Phoolan Devi has been a role model for the women of the world, not only of the fisherman society. She fought against injustice to make the society aware. Phoolan Devi has fought from the road to Parliament to protect the dignity of women against oppression, exploitation and for their rights."
The Nishad party chief further wrote in his letter, "Nishad Party is a party following the ideals and footsteps of Veerangana Phoolan Devi. Following the path laid down by her, Nishad Party has always raised its voice in the interest of the oppressed, the underprivileged and the backward. On her death anniversary on Tuesday, a memorandum has been submitted to concerned officials to free the property of former MP Phoolan Devi from Samajwadi Party-backed mafias and transfer it to her mother.”&nbsp;

Lucknow: After an unsuccessful attempt in the assembly elections last year, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), another Nishad-centric political party from Bihar, has started efforts to make inroads into the Nishad-dominated Purvanchal region, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The party is taking out ‘sankalp yatra’ in regions with considerable Nishad population where people from the community are administered oath with ‘Gangajal’ in their hands to support the VIP and its mission to get the Scheduled caste status for Nishads.
VIP had made its political foray in the state in the 2022 assembly elections and it will contest Lok Sabha elections in UP for the first time. Though the party did not win any seat, it claimed that on a few seats it performed better than the Congress.&nbsp;
“The yatra is on in UP, Bihar and Jharkhand. We are fighting for SC reservation for Nishads in every state,” said VIP national spokesperson, Dev Jyoti.
The next leg of the ‘yatra’ has been planned in Jaunpur on September 9, in which the national president and party founder, Mukesh Sahani, will be present. The campaign was launched on July 25, the death anniversary of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi.
The yatra, which will continue till November, has already covered Ayodhya, Sultanpur and Ambedkar Nagar districts.
Dev Jyoti said the yatra was getting a positive response from the people. In UP, the BJP has tied up with the Nishad party and its president, Sanjay Nishad, is a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government.
Like VIP, Nishad party’s core agenda is to get SC reservation for Nishads.
UP has several sub-castes of Nishads who live along rivers and make their living out of riverine resources.&nbsp;

Paris: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that the BJP and RSS have nothing to do with Hinduism and they will do anything to get power.
“I have read the Gita. I have read the number of Upanishads and I have read many Hindu books. There is nothing Hindu about what the BJP does. There is absolutely nothing,” he said in response to a question during his interaction with the students and faculty at Sciences PO University in Paris, France.
Gandhi, who represents the Wayanad parliamentary constituency from Kerala, said, “I have not read anywhere in any Hindu book, heard from any learned Hindu person that you should terrorise or harm people who are weaker than you.
“The BJP and RSS have nothing to do with Hinduism. They are out to get power at any cost and they will do anything to get power.”
“What the BJP and RSS are trying to do, I think it needs to be countered. It requires a political imagination. It is very important that it is done. The BJP and the RSS is trying to stop the expression and participation of lower castes, other backwards OBCs, tribals and minority communities. For me, in India where a Dalit or a Muslim, or anybody is being mistreated or attacked, is not the India I want.”
Taking a swipe at the ruling dispensation, Gandhi said, “I don’t think the type of political imagination that is required is currently there. We need to reconstruct the political imagination that will solve the problem.”
The MP said for him this is the central problem in India which is bigger than any other problem.
“The word Hindu nationalists, this is a wrong word, they are not Hindu nationalists, they have nothing to do with Hinduism,” he said.

Nishad party’s national president and UP fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad said that the PMO has sought details of the programme.
The statues of Nishad king Guha and Lord Ram, who are mentioned as close friends in various religious scriptures, will be installed at Shringverpur fort in Prayagraj where the Nishadraj ruled. Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had promised to the Nishad community that it would renovate the fort and install the statue.&nbsp;
The party had sent out an invite to the PMO on the occasion of Nishadraj Jayanti in March, for the unveiling of the statue but things did not work out.
Sanjay Nishad said that he was hopeful that the Prime Minister would accept the invitation this time. Nishadraj Jayanti was celebrated by the state government for the first time in the state in which a light and sound show was organised to showcase the legacy of the Nishad king. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also addressed Sankalp Diwas programme of the party in Gorakhpur in January.

Patna: Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Saturday claimed that leaders of INDIA failed to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence they are trying to mow down ‘Sanatan Dharma’.
Jyoti, ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally, came to Patna and was on the way to Jhanjharpur claiming that the leaders of INDIA were repeatedly giving statements against ‘Sanatan Dhamma’.
“Some of them are comparing ‘Sanartan Dharma’ with dengue, Malaria, and Corona while the education minister of Bihar is repeatedly giving statements against Ramcharitmanas. Objecting to Ramcharitmanas is similar to objecting to poor people in the country. I want to appeal to the people of Nishad community to object to the statements of leaders of INDIA,” Jyoti said.
Amit Shah is coming to Bihar’s Mithilanchal region with an aim to lure voters of six Lok Sabha seats. A large number of Nishad (Fishermen) communities is residing here.
While attacking former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, Jyoti said that his father Balasaheb Thackeray (Bal Thackeray) did the politics of Hindutva lifelong but he is sitting in the lap of an anti-Hindu group.
“PM Narendra Modi has lifted the position of Bharat in the world. Powerful global leaders of the world came here and appreciated the successful event of G20 but leaders of INDIA are giving the name of ‘Maut Ke Saudagar’, ‘Jahar Ki Pudia’, and others. In politics, anyone can object to anyone’s ideology but one should not use derogatory remarks,” Jyoti said.

We work together for NDA. NDA's first list is our list. We will all work together," he said. Nishad Party is an ally of the NDA. Notably, the BJP has fielded party leader Praveen Kumar Nishad (son of Sanjay Nishad) from the Sant Kabir Nagar seat in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, he is also an MP from this seat. BJP on Saturday announced its first list of 195 candidates, which included PM Modi from Varanasi again. This is the third time PM Modi will be contesting from the Varanasi seat. In 2014, he defeated AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and in 2019, won against Samajwadi Party's Shalini Yadav.
