New Delhi:After rallying in two consecutive sessions in a row, equity benchmark indices traded lower on Friday.At 9.47 a.m., Sensex was at 57,392 points, down 520 points or 0.90 per cent, whereas Nifty at 17,230 points was down 162 points or 0.93 per cent.Among the stocks, Hindalco, Eicher Motors, Dr Reddy's, SBI, and HDFC Life were the top five losers among the Nifty 50 companies, declining 3.6 per cent, 2.3 per cent, 2.2 per cent, 2.1 per cent, and 2.1 per cent, respectively.On the contrary, Adani Ports, HCL Technologies, ONGC, Tech Mahindra, and Coal India were the top five gainers.

New Delhi: Though the indices narrowed their losses as the day progressed, domestic equity benchmark indices declined marginally in red on Monday as the three-day monetary policy committee meeting of the RBI began for a macro-economic situation review. The central bank raising policy rates in the meeting is a "no brainer" as said by its Governor Shaktikanta Das. The investors, however, await the actual degree of percentage hike before taking fresh positions in the markets. Investors also eye other macro economic forward looking guidance from the central bank.The Sensex on Monday closed at 55,675 points, down 94 points or 0.17 per cent, whereas Nifty closed at 16,570 points, down 15 points or 0.08 per cent."The volatility is likely to continue in both global and domestic markets as investors await monetary policy decisions from major central banks, including the RBI," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. "During the afternoon session, markets trimmed their losses and traded in neutral to marginally in green. The markets continued to trade indecisively ahead of RBI's monetary policy meeting this week," said Narendra Solanki, Head of Equity Research (Fundamental) at Anand Rathi Shares &amp; Stock Brokers. Besides, European and Asian stocks rose on Monday after China relaxed some Covid-19 restrictions, calming the markets that have been unsettled by concerns over global central bank rate rises to tackle persistently high inflation, said HDFC Securities in a note.—IANS

With Friday's slump, the indices have declined for the five out of the past six sessions.Sensex closed at 54,303 points, down 1,017 points, or 1.84 per cent, whereas Nifty, at 16,202 points, was down 276 points, or 1.68 per cent. Besides, the Indian rupee touched a new low of Rs 77.87 per US dollar on Friday, after a prolonged phase of consolidation as inflationary risks have started souring. "The US Fed's meeting on June 14-15 will be the next big event affecting the (market) sentiments," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research at HDFC Securities.—IANS

Mumbai: India's benchmark indices ended up on Monday with Sensex rising more than 300 points and Nifty ending over 90 points. At close, Sensex ended 300.44 points, or 0.51 per cent, up at 59,141.23, and Nifty closed up 91.40 points, or 0.52 per cent, at 17,622.45. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever, State Bank of India, and Nestle were major gainers on the Sensex. Nifty FMCG ended 1.07 per cent up, BSE Auto up 0.78 per cent and BSE IT O.30 per cent up, respectively. "Markets managed to gain over half a percent in a volatile trading session, taking a breather after the recent slide. The Nifty index witnessed a swift rebound in the first hour after the initial fall and remained range bound thereafter. Meanwhile, the sectoral trend was mixed wherein banking, FMCG and auto witnessed buying interest while realty, energy, and metal were on the back foot," said Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, Religare Broking Ltd. Asian stocks had a mixed day as traders remained cautious awaiting a slew of interest rate decisions in the days ahead and after global equities notched their worst week since hitting this year's low in June. Going forward, as per Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Retail Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, markets are likely to remain range-bound ahead of US Fed interest rate decision to be announced September 21 (Wednesday). While it is widely expected that Fed will go for at least 75 basis points hike, however given the stubbornness of US inflation and robust numbers from US data points like retail sales and a strong labour market, there is a high chance that the aggressive stance towards rate hike is likely to continue for a prolonged time. Even the Bank of England is likely to announce a 50bps rate hike to combat inflation and could keep global markets under pressure. US 2-Year bond have spiked to 15-year high at 3.9 per cent while 10-year bond is hovering at 3.4 per cent, thus implying that the short term pain could continue in the global markets. "Back home, Indian markets is better placed compare to the other global markets due to its strong macro factors, strong government policy implementation and oil price falling to 7-month. This well reflected in today's Nifty outperformance to global market as well," said Khemka.&nbsp;

New Delhi: Indian stock indices extended their gains from the previous week and opened on a positive note Monday, with all sectoral indices tracking in the green. Markets finally ended a five-week losing streak and gained nearly a per cent last week, according to Ajit Mishra, SVP - Technical Research, Religare Broking.
Benchmark Sensex and Nifty were at 65,603.39 and 19,509.95 points, up 0.33 per cent and 0.38 per cent, respectively. Nifty Metal, Nifty IT, and Nifty PSU bank indices were the top movers this morning. Indian economy witnessing a firm GDP growth rate of 7.8 per cent in the first quarter (April-June) of 2023-24 is likely to have improved investors’ sentiment lately. With a GDP growth of 7.8 per cent, India continues to be the fastest-growing major economy. Against this backdrop, Morgan Stanley has upwardly revised their economic growth forecast for India for fiscal year 2024 after April-June quarter data showed it grew at its quickest pace in a year. The multinational investment bank raised growth forecast to 6.4 per cent from its earlier estimate of 6.2 per cent. Notably, Sensex recently breached the 67,000 mark for the first time in mid-July. Firm economic outlook, firm global markets, and a relative moderation in inflation then contributed to the bull run in Indian stocks. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have remained net buyers in Indian stock markets for the sixth straight month till August, according to data from the National Securities Depository (NSDL). The benchmark Sensex is now hovering at its off-high, with June and July inflation figures relatively having depressed the market sentiments. Retail inflation in India rose sharply in July to 7.44 per cent, in the process breached RBI's 6 per cent upper tolerance target, largely due to a sharp spurt in vegetable, fruit, and pulses prices. “In India a large number of small caps, particularly the micro caps, are rising, mainly driven by market momentum. Many newbie investors are chasing such stocks for quick gains. Many of these stocks don’t have strong fundamentals and investment in these stocks can be very risky,” said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. “At this juncture, long-term investors should prefer the safety of high quality large-caps,” Vijayakumar added. Conversely, a decline from current levels might prompt a retest of support around 21,900.
Varun Aggarwal, founder and managing director, Profit Idea, said, "Analysis of Open Interest (OI) data revealed significant OI on the call side at 22,400 and 22,500 strike prices, suggesting potential resistance levels. Conversely, the highest OI on the put side was observed at the 22,000 strike price, indicating a crucial support level." He added, "Market sentiment remained buoyant on Thursday, with Nifty 50 poised to potentially advance towards the 22,300 mark in the short term, providing investors with opportunities for gains in the current market environment."

Bullish sentiment reigns as stock market soars at opening bell, Sensex-Nifty gain momentum

Mumbai: Benchmark equity indices continued their record-breaking rally on Tuesday, with the BSE Sensex breaching the historic 75,000-mark for the first time ever in early trade and the Nifty climbing to its fresh new record peak.
Buying in IT stocks contributed the most to the markets rally in early trade.  The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 381.78 points to reach its all-time peak of 75,124.28. The NSE Nifty advanced 99 points to hit its record peak of 22,765.30.  From the Sensex basket, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, Tata Motors, Wipro, ICICI Bank and Nestle were the major gainers.  JSW Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Industries and Larsen &amp; Toubro were among the laggards.  In Asian markets, Tokyo and Hong Kong were trading in the positive territory while Seoul and Shanghai quoted lower.
Wall Street ended on a mixed note on Monday.  Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 684.68 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.  Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.19 per cent to $90.55 a barrel.  "The new records set by the market yesterday confirm the bullish market undertone. A healthy and desirable trend in the market movement yesterday was the outperformance of the largecaps. This trend is likely to continue," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.  The BSE benchmark jumped 494.28 points or 0.67 per cent to settle at a new closing peak of 74,742.50 on Monday. The NSE Nifty climbed 152.60 points or 0.68 per cent to 22,666.30.
