Mandya: Karnataka’s historical town Srirangapatna has turned into a police fortress on Saturday against the backdrop of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) “Srirangapatna Chalo” call to chant Hanuman Chalisa in Jamia Masjid. The district administration has clamped curfew from Friday evening till Sunday morning in the town. District Superintendent of Police Yathish. N stated that action will be initiated against those who violate the prohibitory orders.The police have sealed off roads leading to Jamia Masjid and 400 police personnel have been deployed around the mosque. The police have conducted the flag march in the Srirangapatna town. SP Yathish, who led the flag march, said all necessary measures are undertaken to maintain peace in the town. State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has given directions to the police to take appropriate measures to maintain law and order situation. He has also stated that Hindu activists can voice out their rights and demands in a democratic way. Bajrang Dal leader Kallahalli Balu stated that they are all set to enter Srirangapatna town. “We will voice out our demands that a survey of Jamia Masjid should be conducted on lines of Gyanvapi masjid in Uttar Pradesh. As the Home Minister has stated, we will voice out our demand peacefully,” he said. “If the police will use force, we will not be bogged down with lathi charge,” Balu said.Sri Rama Sena Founder Pramod Muthalik slammed the ruling BJP government, stating that measures should have been taken to prevent Muslims from running madrassas inside the masjid instead of stopping Hindus from conducting prayers in the masjid. “I condemn the ruling BJP government. The masjid is an Archaeological department building,” he said. However, Waqf Board secretary Irfan said: “There will be a reaction for every action. If someone tries to come to Jamia Masjid and pray, we will not sit quietly. Our people are also ready. We have told them that the police have taken care of security. There is no dispute here and it can’t be seen on the lines of Gyanvapi masjid controversy. Outsiders are trying to create trouble here.”ADGP Alokkumar (Law and Order) stated that the police will not let anyone violate the law and order situation.Jamia Mosque was built by erstwhile ruler of Mysuru Tipu Sultan. Hindutva groups have also sought nod from authorities to conduct prayers in the mosque. The issue has become a hot topic in the state. Jamia masjid also called as Masjid-i-Ala, is located inside the Srirangapatna fort. It was built in 1786-87, during the rule of Tipu. The hardest hit was the services sector, which fell into contraction territory, from 4 per cent YoY growth in the first quarter to 0.4 per cent in the second quarter," said senior analyst Ivan Lam."Weak consumer sentiment combined with the high smartphone penetration rate in China resulted in poor Q2 performance of smartphone sales," Lam added.During the quarter, vivo maintained its leadership."The mid-to-high-end S12 series helped vivo grab a good share in the $250-$399 segment. Sub-brand iQOO also received positive market feedback, especially from younger customers," said research analyst Mengmeng Zhang.Honor continues its great comeback by expanding its offline presence."Honor managed to take share from all the leading Chinese brands, including Huawei, during the quarter. Reintroduction of wild species particularly the Cheetah is being undertaken as per the IUCN guidelines and the processes like disease screening, quarantine of release candidates as well as transportation of live wild animals across continents requires careful planning and execution.
The date for Cheetah introduction/ translocation has not been decided as yet. Seized of the sensitivity of the entire process, MoEFCC is taking all precautions to ensure success of the project. Upon arrival, the Cheetahs will be kept under quarantine and observed before release. Reports in certain sections of the media that African Cheetahs are still stuck in transit are completely unfounded.
While the agreement has been signed with the Republic of Namibia, the process of signing of MoU with South Africa is underway.

Lucknow: Shia religious leaders will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking restoration of the original names of Muslim historical and heritage sites in Lucknow.
Shia cleric Mohammad Mirza Yasoob Abbas made the announcement after the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) put up a signboard mentioning the name of Imambara Shahnajaf as the tomb of Ghazi-ud-Din-Haider.&nbsp;
While the cleric termed the act as an attempt to "destroy Muslim history and heritage", the ASI authorities in Lucknow claimed that Shahnajaf Imambara was mentioned as Ghazi-ud-Din Haider's tomb in the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, 1920, and they had only put up the signboard with the correct name.
Maulana Yasoob Abbas, who is also the general secretary of the All-India Shia Personal Law Board, said: "There is a continuous attempt to destroy our (Muslim) history and heritage. Heritage sites such as Bara Imambara, Hussainabad Imambara, Imambara Shahnajaf, Picture Gallery, Safed Baradari and other monuments are generating crores of rupees in revenue for the government every year from tourism. ASI has failed to maintain or restore dilapidated structures. Now, they have started changing names of Muslim religious sites.
"Imambara Shahnajaf was built by Nawab Ghaziud-Din-Haider for offering of prayers. When the person who constructed the monument did not name it as a tomb, how can ASI call it a tomb?"
The Shahnajaf Imambara, located at Rana Pratap Marg, was constructed by Nawab Ghazi-ud-Din Haider, the last nawab wazir and the first king of Awadh in 1816-1817.
The Imambara served as his mausoleum and is a replica of Ali's tomb in Najaf in Iraq.
Besides Nawab Ghazi-ud-Din, his three wives, Sarfaraz Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and Mumtaz Mahal, are also buried here.
Superintendent ASI, Lucknow, Aftab Hussain, said: "In the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, 1920, the name of Shahnajaf Imambara has been mentioned as Ghazi-ud-Din-Haider's tomb. As part of heritage site restoration, we have put up a signboard with its correct name.
"We have undertaken several measures to restore heritage sites. Inside the Shahnajaf Imambara, there is the tomb of Ghazi-ud-Din-Haider. Similarly, Bara Imambara (Asafi Imambara) has the tomb of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, and Chhota Imambara (Imambara Hussainabad Mubarak) is the tomb of Muhammad Ali Shah. If there is objection to the names of sites, we will take appropriate measure."
Responding to the ASI contention, Maulana Yasoob Abbas said: "The names given by ASI remain on papers only. For centuries, heritage sites have been known by their original names. It is a place of worship and ASI wants to designate it as a tomb.
"In December, Shia clerics will participate in a session of the All-India Shia Personal Law Board. We plan to launch a campaign to restore the original names of Muslim heritage sites. We will also write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard."&nbsp;

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for handing over the Ram Katha Sangrahalaya (museum) in Ayodhya to it.  Principal Secretary (Tourism) Mukesh Meshram said: “The MoU is ready and soon it will be signed. The Ram Katha Sangrahalaya will be handed over to the Trust for which terms and conditions have been laid down.”  The Ram Katha Sangrahalaya was constructed in 2015 with a budget of Rs 12.31 crore. Located on a three-acre campus, the single-storey building has 18 rooms.
At present, the state Tourism Department runs the Ram Katha Sangrahalaya.  Experts from the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library, New Delhi, which was earlier known as Nehru Museum, will help the Trust in maintenance of the museum, its archaeology and iconography.  Four experts of the museum attended a meeting of the Ram Mandir construction committee in Ayodhya last week.  Earlier this year, Nripendra Misra, chairman of the Ram temple construction committee, wrote a letter to the state government requesting to hand over the Ram Katha Sangrahalaya to the Trust.  Initially, the Trust had planned a museum on the Ram Janmabhoomi campus along with the Ram Mandir, but the museum plan was dropped due to security reasons.  According to the Trust, artefacts recovered when the foundation of the temple was being laid in August 2020 will be displayed in the museum.  “Experts from the Prime Ministers’ Museum will also guide the Trust on what could be displayed in the Ayodhya Museum,” said a member of the Trust.  The Trust has also identified 11 historic structures inside the Ram Janmabhoomi campus that will be preserved and restored in their original form.  Kuber Tila, Sita Koop, Sita Rasoi and Nal, Neel, Angad, and Sugreev Tilas are among them.

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has given her approval for renaming the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) as the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library (PMML).  “In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (3) of Article 77 of the Constitution, the President here by makes the following rules further to amend the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961. These rules may be called the Government of India (Allocation of Business) (373rd Amendment) Rules, 2023.
“In the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, under the heading ‘Ministry of Culture’ in entry 9 in the Second Schedule, for the words 'Nehru Memorial Museum and Library’, the following words shall be substituted, namely: Prime Ministers' Museum and Library,” read the gazette notification issued by the Centre.  Earlier, the opposition Congress had slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre for removing the name of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru from the Museum and Library, calling it a part of “vendetta politics’’.  “It is not going to cause any problems for us. It is going to only create problems for them only. These people, what they are doing, it will definitely boomerang upon them. They have to be answerable to the country’ ’senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal had said.

New Delhi: There have been occasional debates and discussions related to the use of these two names -- India and Bharat -- in official documents and discourse. 
The term "India" is often associated with the country's colonial past and is the internationally recognised name. On the other hand, "Bharat" has deep cultural and historical roots in India's ancient texts and traditions.
The recent decision by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre to prioritise the use of "Bharat" over "India" has sparked debate over the nation's identity and history.&nbsp;
The opposition has alleged that invitations to the G20 Summit dinner, sent by Rashtrapati Bhavan, featured the term 'President of Bharat' rather than the usual 'President of India.'
This has sparked speculation that the government might introduce a resolution to officially rename India as Bharat during the upcoming special session of Parliament, which is being convened on September 18.
September has consistently been a month of debates for many years, and this can be traced back to September 1949 when there was intense discussion regarding the phrase 'India, that is Bharat...'. This debate followed the establishment of a committee on August 29, 1947, by the Constituent Assembly, with BR Ambedkar as its chairman, to draft the Constitution.
In 1948, the Draft Constitution of India began with Article 1, stating 'India shall be a Union of States.'
During the Constituent Assembly discussion, some members suggested alternatives like 'Bharat,' 'Bharat Varsha,' and 'Hindustan' for 'India.'
A year later, in September 1949, the Assembly revisited the issue to decide on the Union's name.
Ambedkar, on behalf of the Drafting Committee, moved an amendment proposing to change Article 1 of the Draft Constitution to ‘India, that is, Bharat shall be a Union of States.’
It appears that the Drafting Committee took onboard demands to include ‘Bharat’ in the clause. Interestingly, the Committee retained ‘India’.
However, the members found the overall phrase – ‘India, that is, Bharat’ – undesirable.
But at the end of the debate, Assembly members accepted Ambedkar’s amendment. And the Constitution of India 1950 opened with ‘India, that is Bharat, is a Union of States’.
The debate over "India" vs. "Bharat" is not just a linguistic quibble; it reflects the larger struggle to define India's identity in a rapidly changing world.
As the nation evolves, it's essential to recognise that both "India" and "Bharat" have their place in the mosaic of this diverse and vibrant republic.
We refer to our country as India in English and as Bharat in other Indian languages. Even in Dravidian languages it is Bharata in Tamil, Bharatam in Malayalam and Bharat Desam in Telugu.
In Hindi, the Constitution is referred to as ‘Bharat ka Samvidhan’. And Article 1 is, ‘Bharata arthat India, rajyon ka sangha hoga’.
The term "Bharat" has ancient origins, found in Hindu texts like the Mahabharata and Manusmriti. Advocates of 'Bharat' argue it represents the region's rich history and culture.
"India" isn't a recent term either; it was derived from the Indus River, crucial in early regional civilisations, popularised by Greek historians, and later adopted during British colonial rule.
For decades, India and Bharat have both stirred deep emotions among patriots, symbolising the diverse and rich tapestry of a nation. These labels of pride, however, have increasingly become tools for narrow political objectives.
To understand the "India vs. Bharat" debate, one must delve into the historical context of pre-independence India. It was a land of stark contrasts, where urban centres epitomised modernity and progress, while rural areas remained deeply rooted in traditional values and agrarian lifestyles.
This divide was not just economic but also cultural and linguistic, giving rise to two distinct, yet interconnected, ideas of the nation.
The proponents of "India" argued for an identity that represented the urban and modern face of the country. For them, India was about embracing science and technology, industrialisation, and global engagement.
On the other hand, the champions of "Bharat" saw the nation through a different lens. They celebrated the deep-rooted cultural values, traditions, and spirituality that thrived in the countryside. To them, Bharat represented the soul of India, embodying timeless wisdom and a connection to the land.
The Preamble, which begins with "We, the people of India," ultimately struck a balance by acknowledging both India's modern aspirations and its traditional roots. It incorporated the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, encapsulating the ideals of a pluralistic and progressive nation.
The BJP has already renamed cities and places that were linked to the Mughal and colonial periods. Last year, for instance, the Mughal Garden at the presidential palace in New Delhi was renamed Amrit Udyan.
Critics say that the new names are an attempt to erase the Mughals, who were Muslims and ruled the subcontinent for almost 300 years, from Indian history.
The Congress is leading a new opposition alliance that was recently formed with the aim of unseating Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 general election. The 26-party Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, or INDIA, has made the potential name change an issue.&nbsp;

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy give great importance to Hindi and their children have learned the language.
Sarma attended the G20 dinner on Saturday night where he had a discussion with Sunak.&nbsp;
While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the BJP’s women wing program in Guwahati on Sunday evening, Sarma said: “I met British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife for some discussions. They said that despite being in Britain, they insisted on teaching their children Hindi.
“Prime Minister Sunak mentioned this in front of some Chief Ministers at that dinner. I was thinking that even in India I could not give importance to teaching Hindi to my children. But they have done the same thing in England. This is incredible."
Besides Sunak, Sarma also spoke with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the dinner.
The Chief Minister said that Lee is interested in skill development and nursing training in Assam.
“In the atmosphere of the Russia-Ukraine war, it is rare today for America, Russia and China to agree on anything. But those countries have signed India's declaration at G20. This is a historic moment and this declaration will remain as a document of history," he added.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim protection against arrest to a retired colonel of the Indian Army who was booked by Manipur Police for authoring a book allegedly twisting the state’s history.
A bench, comprising Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, ordered that no coercive step will be taken against the petitioner till the next date of listing.
“This book was published a year before…. There is not a word about communities… It is all about military tactics,” submitted senior advocate Anand Grover before the bench.
The bench asked: “Why does everyone come under (Article) 32?”
“In Manipur, houses and offices of lawyers are ransacked and two of them are now in a camp of CRPF,” Grover said.
“Your lordships may protect him if your lordship’s conscience so permits,” said Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, who was present in the courtroom, adding that a report may be called from the Registrar General whether the Manipur High Court is functioning regularly or not.
“One section is bringing everything here (in the Supreme Court) and creating a picture that the courts (in Manipur) are closed…(In Manipur HC) lawyers are appearing physically and virtually. There is something more going on. There is a ‘pattern’ from a particular section, not this individual,” SG Mehta said.
The top court had also directed the petitioner to file averments through an affidavit stating that it is not possible or difficult for him to engage a lawyer to institute proceedings before the High Court in Imphal.
On Monday, it asked Solicitor General Tushra Mehta to obtain instructions from the Manipur government by September 15 on transferring the plea filed by the members of the Editors Guild of India seeking quashing of FIRs to the Delhi High Court.
The matter is likely to be taken up for further hearing on September 22.
The plea said that the FIR registered against Colonel Vijay Chenji (retd) is “nothing but aimed at harassing and persecuting the petitioner at a time when the State of Manipur, has been besieged by sectarian strife.”
Further, it said that to bring criminal action against the author for merely writing a book not only puts his life and liberty in peril, but puts a chilling effect on the artistic and academic freedom which is part of Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India.
Earlier on September 6, the top court had shielded two editors, Professor Jangkhomang Guite from Manipur University and Assistant Professor Thongkholal Haokip from Jawaharlal Nehru University, for a period of three weeks from any coercive action of the Manipur Police in relation to the same book.
The FIR against the author and editors was lodged based on the complaint of the Federation of Haomee, an Imphal-based civil society organisation, which claimed that no Anglo-Kuki war had taken place in Manipur and the book incorrectly depicted a Kuki rebellion from 1917 to 1919.
It demanded that the book titled “The Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919: Victory in Defeat” be banned “for the ends of justice and peace in the country”.

Chennai: UNESCO declares certain properties as World Heritage Sites based on their cultural and natural heritage that is considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (UNESCO) tag line for World Heritage Sites is, “Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage, are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.” A World Heritage Site must be a unique landmark which is geographically and historically identifiable and has special cultural or physical significance. In order to be categorised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the property must be an exceptionally good example of a traditional human settlement, land-use or sea-use that is representative of a culture or an interaction between humans and the environment. Being listed as a World Heritage Site can positively affect the site, its environment and the interactions between them. A listed site gains international recognition, legal protection and can even obtain funds which include grants from the World Heritage Fund, to facilitate its conservation. The three Chola temples, namely the Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, the Brihadisvara Temple at Gangaikondacholisvaram and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram form a unique group and demonstrate a progressive development of Chola architecture and Dravidian art at its best. They also encapsulate a very distinctive period of Chola history and Tamil culture. The Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur marks the greatest achievements of the Chola architects. The foundation stone of this temple was laid bythe Chola king, Rajaraja 1 (985-1012CE). The temple inauguration is likely to have taken place in the 19th regal year. The massive temple which is considered as an architectural beauty and marvel has a main entrance with gopura (a largepyramid shaped tower over the entrance gate) and sub shrines dedicated to Asthadikpalakar. The sanctum itself occupies the centre of the rear half of the rectangular court and there is a circumambulatory path all around the sanctum housing a massive linga. The temple walls are adorned with expensive and exquisite murals. The fort walls enclose and protect the temple complex within and form part of the protected area by the Archeological Survey of India. The Brihadisvara Temple at Gangaikondacholisvaram in Perambalur districtwas built by Rajendra 1 for Lord Shiva and its sculptures are of unique quality. The bronzes of Bhogasakti and Subrahmanya are considered masterpieces of Chola metal icons and the solar altar with eight deities is considered auspicious. The third among the three Chola temples with the World Heritage Tag is the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram that was built by Chola king Rajaraja II. The temple is much smaller in size compared to the first and second Chola temples. UNESCO declared these three temples World Heritage Sites as they represent and outstanding creative achievement in the architectural conception of the pure form of the Dravida type of temples unique to South India. These three temples are also an outstanding testimony to the development of architecture of the Chola empire and of the Tamil civilisation. KR Krishnakumar, architect and a researcher on World Heritage Sites while speaking to IANS from Madurai said, “These three temples representthe development of Dravida architecture from the Chola to the Maratha period.” He said that these three properties pass the test of authenticity in relation to their conception, material and execution. The temples are still usedand the tradition of temple worships and rituals established and practiced over a thousand years ago based on old Agamic texts are continuing on a daily basis there. After getting the World Heritage Site tag, the three temples are being well-maintained and preserved and no major threats affect the monuments. While the status of World Heritage Site improves the recognition of sites globally and increases the interest and curiosity of tourists, the UNESCO is facing criticism regarding “lobbying” as World Heritage Site status can significantly increase tourist footfall. However, the Chola temples have all the right to be included in the list of World Heritage Sites due to their immense architectural beauty and majestic presence. Ullas Kumar, social scientist and researcher based out of Chennai told IANS, “Even though UNESCO is facing criticism in its selection of World Heritage Sites, including racial discrimination and lobbying, the inclusion of the Chola temples in its has lifted the status of the World Heritage Sites as by any standard these temples have to be included in it.” —IANS

Rota was responding to condemnation from Jewish groups and others, stemming from a moment during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to the Parliament on Friday. During the visit, Rota said Yaroslav Hunka was "a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service." Those gathered in the House responded with applause and a standing ovation. Rota has now apologized for the same. "I have subsequently become aware of more information which causes me to regret my decision to [honour Hunka]. I wish to make clear that no one, including fellow parliamentarians and the Ukraine delegation, was aware of my intention or of my remarks before I delivered them.” "I particularly want to extend my deepest apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world," he added. Rota said he accepted "full responsibility" for his actions, as per CBC News. Hunka, 98, was part of the First Ukrainian Division, also known as the Waffen-SS Galicia Division or the SS 14th Waffen Division, a voluntary unit that was under the command of the Nazis. CBC News has attempted to contact Hunka and his family for comment, but have not been successful. In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office said the decision to invite and honour Hunka was made by the Speaker's office alone. "The independent Speaker of the House has apologized and accepted full responsibility for issuing the invitation and for the recognition in Parliament. This was the right thing to do," said a PMO spokesperson. The event was broadcast internationally, including by CBC. Government House Leader Karina Gould also said on Sunday that the government did not know about Hunka's presence. "The PM did not meet him. I am deeply troubled this happened. I urge MPs to avoid politicizing this incident," she said in a statement on social media. Jewish groups and others had raised the alarm about Hunka's past actions. "The fact that this individual, and by proxy the organization he was a member of, was given a standing ovation in the House of Commons is deeply troubling," Dan Panneton, a director with the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, told CBC News on Sunday. "I think association with this unit makes you a Nazi collaborator. To be part of this unit, you swore allegiance to Hitler and you were involved with the massacre of civilians. So it doesn't matter if you try and claim that you were defending against communism, you were still involved with the Nazi war machine. That makes you complicit," he said.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday set October 3 to hear the petition relating to challenge to Allahabad High Court order which transferred to itself all the pleas relating to Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute from District Court Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Appearing for Bhagwan Shri kishna Virajman, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain sought an early hearing on the pending plea filed by the opposite side the Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah. Advocate Vishnu Jain apprised the court that after its order of July 21, the matter has not been taken for hearing. A bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul sought to know the urgency in the matter. Replying to court's query, Jain said that various civil suits are pending and due to the matter is pending before the top court, no bench was constituted yet by the Allahabad High Court. The top court also noted that it has not passed any stay order on the High Court decision and said that it will be the matter on October 3. Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah has filed in appeal in the top court challenging Allahabad High Court order which transfer to itself all the petitions relating to Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute from District Court Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. In the early hearing, the Supreme Court asked the registrar of Allahabad High Court to give details of the suits which are being dealt with in the court relating to Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia listed the matter after three weeks. The top court was hearing the Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah appeal challenging Allahabad High Court order, which transferred to itself all the petitions relating to Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute from the District Court in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. During the hearing, the top court noted that multiple suits had been filed in the matter. Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah moved the Supreme Court challenging Allahabad High Court order, which transferred to itself all the petitions relating to Mathura's Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute from Mathura district court. The plea was moved by the Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah through advocate RHA Sikander. Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah challenged the order dated May 26 passed by the Allahabad High Court whereby it transferred all such cases relating to the Krishna Janambhoomi dispute from the District Court Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, to itself. The Transfer Application was allowed by the high court despite the fact that the proceedings in the Suit from which the Transfer Application emanated, were stayed by a Coordinate Bench of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad vide Order dated August 3, 2022. The impugned Judgment takes away two appellate stages and also transfers other suits to the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad for which no transfer applications were filed. "The impugned Judgment is passed on a mere ipse dixit by indulging in the prophecy of the Respondents No. 1 to 8 that ‘in case the trial court itself decides the suit, it will take a long time without even considering that the Suit was registered only on May 26, 2022, and the proceedings therein were subsequently stayed by a Coordinate Bench of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad vide Order dated August 3, 2022, which remained in force till May 1, 2023," read the petition. So far, nine cases have been filed in Mathura court in the case of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah Masjid. Ranjana Agnihotri, a resident of Lucknow, had filed a suit demanding the ownership of 13.37 acres of land of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. In her legal suit, Agnihotri demanded removal of the Shahi Idgah mosque built in Krishna Janmabhoomi. The suit filed in the Mathura court sought the removal of a mosque said to have been built in 1669-70 on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in the 13.37-acre premises of Katra Keshav Dev temple, near the birthplace of Lord Krishna. —ANI

I urge all of you … whenever you plan to travel somewhere, try to observe the diversity of India" the Prime Minister had said.  The popular program on All India Radio, Prime Minister Mann Ki Baat was started on 3rd October 2014 and is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month at 11 am. The 30–minute program completed its 100 episodes on 30th April 2023.  Through the program, the Prime Minister aims to have a dialogue with the citizens and also highlight inspirational ideas and initiatives in an effort to promote citizen-centric governance.

London [UK]: The National Army Museum is currently highlighting the critical contribution of the British Indian Army during the First World War through a temporary exhibition titled “British Indian Army: Soldiers of the First World War.”
Created together with the United Service Institution of India, the display “Looks at the history of the British Indian Army and its Indian soldiers in the First World War,” explained Julian Farrance, Liaison Officer at the museum. It highlights their “absolutely vital” role across multiple fronts and campaigns, he emphasized. “The history of the British Indian Army is very key to the National Army Museum,” Farrance stated, noting that some of the museum’s first collections were of Indian soldiers. “We wanted to look at that specifically in this temporary exhibition and particularly at the history of the First World War,” he said.
Nearly 1.4 million Indian men served in the Great War (World War I), making up the largest volunteer force ever assembled at the time. The exhibition brings to life their indispensable service from 1914 to 1918 in major theatres like the Western Front, Gallipoli, and Mesopotamia as well as lesser-known Asian fronts. Featuring photographs, artwork reproductions, documents and medals of Indian soldiers, the exhibition shows that “We (Great Britain) would not be able to prosecute the war the way that we do without their contribution,” Farrance emphasized.
Though the role of Indian troops is “a subject that tends to be overlooked” in the UK’s popular memory of the war, Farrance said: “Looking at that contribution and putting it into these kinds of exhibitions is something that we do very regularly at the museum to provide a more complete historical picture.” “There are so many different contributing countries that put soldiers into the British Army throughout its long history. But one of the most important ones is the contribution of Indian soldiers,” Farrance said, stating that the museum continually highlights the role of the British Indian Army.
The exhibition opened in August and will run through till November 5, spotlighting a vital part of the museum’s origins and collections.

Agra: A tourist hailing from West Bengal was restrained from performing 'namaz' in the garden of the Taj Mahal, police said on Friday. The incident took place on Saturday when Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on duty observed the tourist laying out his prayer mat, which prompted intervention to prevent the religious ritual. Senior conservation assistant for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Prince Vajpayee, said, "A video surfaced on Thursday and upon verification, it was confirmed that a tourist from West Bengal had unfurled his prayer mat in the Taj Mahal garden, preparing for 'namaz'. The Central Industrial Security Force personnel promptly intervened in the matter. "The tourist was escorted to the control room, where he expressed ignorance about the prohibition on offering 'namaz' at the Taj Mahal. Subsequently, he submitted a written apology and was allowed to proceed with his visit. Prince Vajpayee clarified that the actual prayer was not performed, and the tourist complied with the regulations upon being informed. —IANS
