Lucknow (The Hawk): Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has frequently praised the police for "cracking the whip and reining in offenders." The Uttar Pradesh Police has reportedly killed up to 168 listed offenders in gunfights, the majority of whom had financial rewards of between Rs 75,000 and Rs five lakh on their heads.
From a total of 22,234 criminals detained between March 20, 2017, and November 20, 2022, the police have detained 4,557 people in confrontations. According to Prashant Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) (law and order) for Uttar Pradesh, 13 police officers were also killed during the exchange of gunfire, while 1,375 more were wounded.
He did, however, add that Uttar Pradesh Police adhered to Supreme Court directives when conducting encounters, adding that as of this writing, not even a single encounter conducted by the Police since 2017 has come under the court's scrutiny. In addition, he said that in the last five years, police shot and killed two criminals carrying financial prizes of Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 2.5 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh, Rs. 1.5 lakh, Rs. 1 lakh, and Rs. 75,000, as well as other individuals carrying rewards of Rs. 75,000.
"The Uttar Pradesh Police began extensive operations against gang leaders and mafias in 2017 as part of its zero-tolerance approach to crime and offenders. In addition to the Special Task Force (STF), campaigns against gangsters are also being carried out by the District Police and the Commissionerate Police "Kumar said. According to the UP ADG, a maximum of 64 criminals were put to death in the Meerut zone, which also had the most arrests among the eight police zones (6,494). "Criminals who attempt to interact with the police were all dealt with harshly. The mafias and criminals who attacked police officers on purpose have been dealt with harshly by the Uttar Pradesh Police "Added he. Srinagar (The Hawk): On Saturday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that a total of 172 terrorists, including 42 foreigners, had been killed in 93 encounters with security forces in Kashmir so far this year.
According to Vijay Kumar, ADGP (Kashmir), "108 militants were killed from the LeT/TRF group this year, followed by 35 from JeM, 22 from HM, four from Al-Badr, and three from AGuH. Hundred new recruits were reported into terrorist ranks in 2022, representing a reduction of 37% over the previous year. 74 of them joined the LeT. Of these recent recruits, 65 were killed in confrontations, 17 were detained, and 18 are still in the field. "In addition, massive numbers of weaponry, 360 were recovered during engagements and modules' breaking which comprise 121 AK series rifles, 8 M4 carbines, and 231 handguns. Out of the freshly recruited militants, 65 were slain within the first month of joining militant ranks. Major terror occurrences in 2022 were prevented by prompt IED, sticky bomb, and grenade seizures, according to the ADGP.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath on Thursday informed that more than 10,000 encounters have taken place between police and criminals in the state in the past six years during which 63 criminals had been killed while a brave cop had also been martyred, according to the data released by the goverment.
"In terms of number of encounters, Meerut is at the top in the state with the highest number of 3152 encounters taking place since 2017, in which 63 criminals were killed and 1708 criminals were injured," it said.
During the same period, besides, a brave policeman was also martyred while 401 cops were injured during the police encounters. A total of 5,967 criminals were nabbed during the action of the UP Police.
"The UP Police has conducted 10713 encounters since 2017 of which the highest 3152 were conducted by the Meerut police, followed by the Agra Police, which carried out 1844 encounters in which 4654 criminals were arrested while 14 dreaded criminals were killed and 55 cops were injured, and Bareilly where as many as 1497 encounters were conducted in which 3410 criminals were arrested while 7 died. During the encounters in Bareilly, 437 criminals were injured. In these operations, 296 brave police personnel were injured while 1 was martyred," the statement informed.
"As soon as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of the state, improving the law and order situation in the state became his priority. His government adopted zero tolerance policy against mafia and criminals and intensified crackdown on such elements to strengthen the state's law and order," it added.
According to the available statistics, in the last six years more than 10,000 encounters of criminals took place in the state. Reminding that due to this action of the police, the state which was once known for poor law and order situation and atrocities of mafias on innocent people, today is being known not only in the country but abroad as a "crime and fear-free state".
It is noteworthy that during GIS-23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and veteran leaders and investors praised the law and order situation of UP. The UP Police worked in a planned and phased manner to curb crime and crack down on criminals and encounter was the biggest strategy, which created fear among the criminals, after which they started fleeing from the state.&nbsp;&nbsp;

U'khand CM Dhami Releases Book On Cybercrime Titled 'Cyber Encounters'

Lucknow: As many as 16 gangsters and their gang members have been gunned down in separate police encounters in Uttar Pradesh while 55 others, including 19 mafiosi, have been convicted and awarded death penalty and life term or sentenced with different periods of imprisonment in 42 different cases. The state police had initiated stern action against 69 mafiosi and 1,153 of their gang members in nearly three-and-a-half-years since January 2020. UP Police Special Director General (SDG), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar informed that the state police had been acting tough on criminals and mafia and properties worth Rs 3,516 crore procured and occupied by them, were seized and demolished or freed from illegal possession since January 2020. Besides, the involvement of criminals and mafiosi in different government contracts and other occupations was curbed that led to the loss of over Rs 1,424 crore to them, he said. Prashant Kumar said as many as 650 criminal cases were lodged against these elements while acting against them and at least 549 of them were arrested. He said 239 were booked under the Goonda Act, 704 under Gangsters Act and 18 under the National Security Act. Preventive measures were taken against 336 people under provisions of 110G Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The Special DG said similarly, 92 new criminal gangs were registered in the police records and vigilance was intensified on gang leaders and members. He said history sheets of 404 criminals were opened and action of 'Zila Badar' (expulsion of regular offenders from a certain district for a certain period) was taken against 83 of them while bail of 25 criminals was cancelled and they were sent back to jail. —IANS

Bijnor (The Hawk): A 35-year-old woman, Jagiro Kaur, was attacked by a leopard in the Champatpur village of Bijnor's Afjalgarh block in Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Thursday.  The attack took place on Wednesday.  She has been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.
SDFO Gyan Singh said, "We have put over 30 cages at different locations.  "We managed to cage two more leopards on Tuesday night from Mehsanpur village under the Rehar area and Beeruwala village under the Najibabad area.”  More details were awaited.

Jammu: Heavy gunfire rattled a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district where an over 20-hour-long operation to neutralise a holed up terrorist entered second day on Tuesday, officials said. While one terrorist was killed and two security personnel injured in the initial gunfight on Monday, efforts are on to neutralise the second terrorist who had taken shelter inside a house at Gali Sohab village in Tuli area, they said. They said the intermittent firing continued throughout the night as security forces further tightened the cordon around the target house. Intense firing was reported from the scene when security forces attempted to storm the house this morning, the officials said, adding there was no report of any fresh casualty.
The encounter broke out around 2 pm on Monday when the joint troops of police, Army and CRPF zeroed in on the house where the terrorists had taken shelter at gun-point during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. After getting information about the presence of the terrorists, security forces after trekking for over four hours reached the village and cornered the terrorists who opened indiscriminate firing in a vain bid to escape the security dragnet, the officials said. The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists would be known once the operation is over, the officials said. The border district of Poonch along with nearby Rajouri has witnessed several encounters this year, resulting in the killing of around 20 terrorists and 10 security personnel.
Most of the terrorists were killed while attempting to sneak into this side from across the border, the officials said.&nbsp;
