Jakarta: Rising to the occasion, the Indian men's hockey team slammed six goals in the final quarter for a crushing 16-0 victory against Indonesia, a result that took the holders into the knockout stage of the Asia Cup but shut the World Cup door on Pakistan, in Jakarta on Thursday. India needed to win the Pool A contest by at least a 15-0 margin to qualify and the young players delivered under pressure. Both India and Pakistan finished on four points each in Pool A behind Japan but the defending champions qualified for the Super 4s due to better goal difference. Pakistan had lost 2-3 to Japan earlier in the day. The result not only pushed Pakistan out of the tournament but also dashed their hopes of World Cup qualification since only the top three teams at the Asia Cup will be given tickets for the big event. India, being the hosts, gained an automatic place in the World Cup and hence Hockey India decided to send young players to this tournament for exposure. Thrikkakara: A little over a year after it retained power in Kerala with a massive victory, the CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front suffered a huge setback on Friday in a bypoll held to Thrikkakara assembly constituency, with Congress candidate Uma Thomas winning with a historic margin of 25,016 votes, giving a boost to the morale of the party-led United Democratic Front in the southern state. With the highest ever majority attained in the history of Thrikkakara seat in the fiercely fought electoral battle, Uma, wife of late Congress leader and MLA P T Thomas, became the lone woman legislator of the Congress party in the state assembly. His untimely demise necessitated the bypoll in the urban constituency. While Uma won a total of 72,770 votes and managed to maintain a steady lead in all the 12 rounds of counting since the beginning, her nearest rival and Left candidate Jo Joseph, a reputed cardiologist, could never come anywhere near her tally and had to be satisfied with 47,754 votes.The Bharatiya Janata Party also suffered a blow in the election as its candidate A N Radhakrishnan could garner only 12,957 votes.P T Thomas, Uma's husband and former legislator, had won the constituency with 59,839 votes and secured a margin of 14,329 during the 2021 assembly polls.The defeat also shattered the LDF's dream of concluding the first anniversary celebrations of the second Pinarayi Vijayan-led government by smashing a century in the 140-member Kerala assembly in which the CPM-led alliance has 99 members.It is also seen as a setback for Chief Minister Vijayan who is vigorously pushing the K-Rail project despite massive protests by the affected people. A heartbroken CPI-M, which conducted an unparalleled grassroot-level campaign under the lead of the Chief Minister to wrest the traditional Congress bastion, termed the result as "unexpected" and admitted its failure much before the counting of votes was over and the Election Commission announced the results officially."Unbelievable and unexpected", CPI-M Ernakulam district secretary C N Mohanan said reacting to the bypoll result.Rejecting the claim that the campaign was led by chief minister himself, Mohanan said it was conducted by the district unit of the party and Vijayan joined the campaign considering the request of the district unit of the party.The huge victory, however, turned out to be a real lifeline for the opposition Congress, which desperately needed a poll victory to come out of the rude shock of its massive drubbing in the Assembly polls held last year.State Congress Chief K Sudhakaran even urged Vijayan to quit as chief minister, shouldering responsibility for the party-led front's failure. New Delhi (The Hawk): As Hanmant Shivankar stood stoically near the victory podium, his mind raced to the day, several years back, when he had learnt that his daughter had sneaked away to compete in a running event.“A wave of panic gripped me,” he told as he watched his daughter soak in the adulation at a Khelo India Youth Games victory ceremony, disclosing in an emotional voice that she had been diagnosed with childhood asthma and the family had done everything to keep her away from smoke and dust to avoid inflaming her lungs and her airways. “Her school physical education teacher had called to seek my consent for taking Sudeshna to the athletics meet. I had flatly refused,” he revealed. But the teacher and Sudeshna had still conspired to go for the event.“I somehow got to know about their trip and raced to the event, hoping to stop her. But, by the time I reached the venue, Sudeshna had already won the race,” Hanmant laughed.More importantly, she had caught the eye of athletics coach Balwant Babar, who was also the Taluka Sports Officer then, too.All these years later, Maharashtra’s Sudeshna not only emerged as the fastest woman at the KIYG but also as the standout performer in track and field, having completed an eye-catching hat-trick in sprints, winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m gold.<img src="https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteReadData/userfiles/image/image0028VT3.jpg">Recalling that incident, Sudeshna said, “Thankfully, my parents were at our native place in Kharshi, about 20km from Satara. It was her speed that caught the eye of the teacher.“During those days, if I suffered an asthma attack, I would just take rest and start playing against after a while. It never bothered me,” she declared triumphantly.As her condition improved with regular training and advancing age, Sudeshna started to make a mark on the track, making it to the reserves list of the 4x100 relay team for the School Nationals in Bhopal two years later.A year later, she qualified for the Pune Khelo India Youth Games in the U-17 category and went on to win the 100m gold.But the competition in Pune also taught her the difference between running on a mud and a synthetic track, as until then, she had only trained on a mud track back home in Satara. The nearest synthetic was in Kolhapur, which was about 120kms away.Though Sudeshna and her coach tried to go to Kolhapur for training at least once a month it wasn’t always feasible. So coach Babar changed strategies.“My coach started building my technique needed for a synthetic track. You need to lean forward and have a good knee lift. In the last few years, he has worked a lot on these and it is bringing in the results now,” she conceded.Sudeshna was hoping tocrack the qualifying time for the U20 World Championships to be played in Cali, Colombia from August 1 at the National Federation Cup Juniors Meet in Nadiad, Gujarat. But the heat didn’t allow her to perform at her best and she finished fourth in both the 100m and 200m races, failing to attain the qualification mark.“But by the time I came here, I had acclimatised to the heat. Also, the blue track here is slightly faster than the red one and I was confident of a good showing here,” she said.Sudeshna not only dominated the sprint events in Panchkula, her timings – 11.79 secs in 100m and 24.29 sec in 200m – were better than the qualification standard set by the Athletics Federation of India for the World U20 Championships.She has now petitioned the AFI to consider her performance here for the World U20 selection and was hopeful that she would be on the flight to Cali next month.And if that happens, Hanmant Shivankar would be glad he hadn’t stopped his child from running due to a measly asthma.

Galle:&nbsp; Opener Abdullah Shafique starred with a sensational knock of 160 not out off 408 balls, his best-ever knock in the longest format of the game, in helping Pakistan to a famous four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle on Wednesday.Shafique's efforts meant that Pakistan successfully chased down 342, which is a record for the highest successful run chase in Tests at Galle International Stadium.Resuming day five from 222/3 and requiring 120 runs to win, the first 30 minutes were filled with a few close calls, beautiful bowling from Sri Lanka despite losing both of their remaining reviews.A slider from spinner Prabath Jayasuriya struck Shafique on the back-pad, with umpire Kumar Dharmasena signalling the bowler about the height. However, with the game at a crucial stage and Shafique's prized wicket at stake, Sri Lanka went for the review. Alok Awasthi, a spokesman for the BJP, claimed that the SP leaders emotionally engaged the electorate by bringing up memories of Mulayam Singh during the campaign.
Former state minister Mohsin Raza claimed that "parivarwad" is to blame for the Mainpuri outcome.
He declared, "This family comes together when it suits them, then falls apart again."
Shivpal Yadav was previously referred to as a "chunavi chacha" by deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who also predicted that he would be removed from office once more after the elections.

Chennai News: After a tense 12-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni gave a polite warning to his fast bowlers to stop bowling no-balls and wides or else they will have to play under a new captain.

Notably, the pace duo of Deepak Chahar (0/55) and Tushar Deshpande (2/45), who came in for Ambati Rayudu as Impact Player, bowled three wides and two no-balls during LSG's run-chase at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Monday night.
The 41-year old CSK skipper pointed out that his side's pacers need to improve and bowl according to the conditions.

"It's the fast bowling that will need to improve slightly and bowl according to the conditions. Even if it's on the flatter side, force batters to hit over the fielders. They'll have to bowl no no balls and less wides. We are bowling too many extra deliveries and need to cut them out otherwise they'll be playing under a new captain," Dhoni said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Though most of the CSK pacers didn't have a great game, the trio of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, and Moeen Ali guided Chennai Super Kings to victory over Lucknow Super Giants at their fortress.

Gaikwad hit his second successive fifty and stitched a 110-run opening stand with Conway (47 off 29) as CSK posted a commanding 217 for 7 after being sent into bat. Then Moeen Ali came back with a brilliant spell of 4 for 26 from his four overs to help CSK restrict LSG to 205 for seven, securing a thrilling win at the homecoming.

"Terrific high-scoring game. All of us were thinking how the wicket would be. It was the perfect first game that could happen. I thought it would be much slower. But it was a wicket where you could score runs," Dhoni said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Derby: Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the way yet again as Sri Lanka’s women’s team created history by recording their first-ever series triumph over England in any format.
The historic 2-1 series triumph came courtesy of a dominant seven-wicket victory over Heather Knight’s side in the third T20I and it was no surprise to see Athapaththu dominate proceedings, reports ICC.
Athapaththu picked up three valuable wickets to help skittle England for just 116 and then contributed an excellent 44 from just 28 deliveries to ensure Sri Lanka chased down the winning target with three overs to spare.
It was no surprise that Athapaththu was adjudged Player of the Match and Player of the Series for her superb all-round performances, with the Sri Lanka captain totalling 114 runs and five wickets over the three matches.
While Athapaththu is sure to win the majority of the plaudits for her fine all-round efforts, she received plenty of support from her teammates during the series decider as Sri Lanka bowled out England cheaply to gain the upper hand.

Thiruvananthapuram: As counting of votes polled in the Puthuppally by-election crossed the halfway mark, Congress candidate Chandy Oommen breached the highest victory margin which his father Oommen Chandy got in 2011.
While Oommen Chandy got a margin of 33,255 in 2011 the highest in his 12 outings from 1970, his son crossed that margin when half the votes were counted and is now leading by a margin of 34,036 votes.
Chandy Oommen, who was missing from the celebrations, emerged from his house amidst a thunderous applause when his margin breached his father's record margin.&nbsp;
Finding his way among the milling crowd of his supporters, a teary-eyed Chandy Oommen walked towards the graveyard of Oommen Chandy where knelt and prayed.
An overwhelmed Achu Oommen Chandy, youngest daughter of Oommen Chandy, said this victory is a reflection of the love and reverence the people of Puthuppally had for her father.
“It’s a big slap that the electorate has given to all those who haunted him for no reason. We humbly accept this gratitude the people of Puthuppally have given to our father by voting for Chandy Oommen,” said Achu.
Voting for the Puthuppally bypoll took place on September 5, in which 72.86 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise.
Of the 1,76 412 electorate, as many as 1,28,535 cast their votes.
The election became necessary after the passing away of sitting Congress legislator- Oommen Chandy, a two-time former Chief Minister who represented the constituency from 1970 for a record-breaking 53 years.
In the fray are Chandy's son Chandy Oommen for the Congress, CPI(M)'s Jaick C.Thomas in his third outing in the constituency, BJP's Lijin Lal and four others.
In the 2021 Assembly polls, Chandy defeated Thomas by 9,044 votes.&nbsp;

Agartala: The ruling BJP, which on Friday won both Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly constituencies thrashing its CPI (M) rivals with a massive margins of votes, created history in Tripura as for the first time a minority Muslim candidate won as a saffron party nominee.
The BJP wrested the Boxanagar seat from the CPI-M and retained the Dhanpur seat even as the two assembly constituencies were once strongholds of the Left parties.
Election officials said that BJP candidate Taffajal Hossain, with 34,146 votes, won in Boxanagar by a margin of 30,237 votes defeating his CPI (M) opponent Mizan Hossain, who bagged 3,909 votes only.&nbsp;
BJP nominee Bindu Debnath (30,017 votes) won the Dhanpur constituency beating his CPI-M challenger Kaushik Chanda (11146 votes) by a margin of 18871 votes.
The 51-years-old Muslim leader Taffajal Hossain, first Muslim nominee elected to Tripura assembly as BJP nominee, unsuccessfully contested the February 16 assembly polls from the same Muslim-dominated Boxanagar constituency.
He lost to CPI-M’s Samsul Haque, who died on July 19 following a cardiac attack necessitating the bypolls, by a margin of 4631 votes.
The by-election to the Dhanpur seat was necessitated after Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik resigned from the Assembly, days after she was elected from the seat as a BJP nominee in the February Assembly elections.
The bypolls were held on Tuesday, and the voter turnout stood at 86.56 per cent, with 93,495 eligible voters casting their ballots.
The Congress and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), the other two main opposition parties in the state, had earlier announced not to field candidates in the two seats to prevent division of vote share.
The leaders of TMP headed by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman, however, two days before the by-elections, had declared not to support the CPI-M or the BJP in the by-elections, leaving the choice to the voters and party workers.
Congress leaders, led by state party President Ashish Kumar Saha campaigned for the CPI-M candidates.
"To defeat the BJP and to ensure victory for the INDIA alliance, we have campaigned in both the Assembly segments," Saha told IANS.
After the formation of the opposition alliance -- Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) – September 5 by-elections was its first electoral battle.
Alleging large-scale intimidation, rigging and irregularities by members and workers of the state's ruling BJP on the polling day and the Election Commission’s "inactiveness" to deal with the “terror and misdeeds”, the CPI (M)-led Left Front has boycotted the counting.
With this victory in the two assembly seats, the BJP’s tally increased to 33 in the 60-member assembly while CPI-M’s strength went down from 11 to 10.
In the February 16 assembly polls, the ruling BJP won 32 seats while its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) secured one.
On the other hand the tribal based Tipra Motha Party (TMP) became the second single largest party after BJP securing 13 seats while CPI-M managed 11 seats and the Congress three.
The CPI-M and the Congress contested the February assembly polls in a seat sharing arrangement.
Though the CPI-M, Congress and the TMP initially decided to fight against the BJP and try to prevent vote division of opposition parties but subsequently TMP was out of the electoral scene.
The latest development took place after the meeting between TMP supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on August 26.
In other setbacks for the opposition parties in the two assembly segments, one of the prominent Muslim CPI-M leader and former Minister Shahid Chowdhury’s brother Farooq Chowdhury and top Congress leader and former Minister Billal Mia joined the BJP just before the by-elections boosting the ruling party.
Many top BJP leaders and Central Ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J.P.Nadda and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the party candidates for their success.&nbsp;

BJP wins 2 Tripura assembly seats, scripts electoral history as 1st Muslim nominee succeeds 

Dehradun: The ruling BJP on Friday retained the Bageshwar assembly seat in Uttarakhand with its candidate Parwati Dass defeating Congress' Basant Kumar by more than 2,400 votes in a closely contested bypoll. Dass got 33,247 votes while Kumar polled 30,842 votes, Bageshwar District Magistrate and returning officer Anuradha Pal said. The BJP won by 2,405 votes, she said. The three other candidates in the fray -- Uttarakhand Kranti Dal's Arjun Kumar Dev, Samajwadi Party's Bhagwati Prasad and Uttarakhand Parivartan Party's Bhagwat Kohli -- lost their deposits getting 857, 637 and 268 votes, respectively. The bypoll was held on September 5 with 55.44 per cent of the nearly 1.2 lakh voters exercising their franchise. Parwati Dass, who won the seat on Friday, is wife of the late Chandan Ram Dass whose death in April this year had necessitated the bypoll. Chandan Dass, who was a cabinet minister, had been winning the seat consecutively since 2007. The victory of Parwati Dass comes as a big morale booster for the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in which the party faces the challenge of retaining all the five parliamentary seats in the state for a consecutive third term. Celebrations began in the BJP camp as the news of the party's win from the seat broke with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand BJP president Mahendra Bhatt and Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik offering sweets to each other. Dhami thanked the people of Bageshwar for reposing their trust once again in the BJP. "The bypoll verdict in Bageshwar is a tribute to our late MLA Chandan Ram Dass who worked tirelessly for the development of the constituency. His wife will carry forward his unfinished work," Dhami said. "It is also a stamp of approval by the people on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and the development-oriented programmes and policies of the state government," he said. This is the fifth time in a row that the BJP has bagged the seat. The one and only time the Congress won from the Bageshwar assembly constituency was in 2002 when its candidate Ram Prasad Tamta had defeated Narayan Das of the BJP by more than 2,000 votes. The BJP had fielded Chandan Ram Dass' wife from the seat eying sympathy votes as he was a popular leader. The strategy worked. However, the fight was close as the BJP's victory margin was much narrower than last time. Parwati Dass' husband had won the seat in the 2022 assembly polls by 12,141 votes. The thinner victory margin for the BJP this time may have something to do with its candidate's relative inexperience in comparison to her closest rival. Unlike Dass who had to take the plunge after her husband's untimely demise, her closest opponent Basant Kumar is a full time politician who contested the last assembly election from the seat on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket and garnered more than 16,000 votes to finish third behind the BJP and Congress. The bypoll verdict is being seen by poll observers as a reassertion of people's faith in the programmes and policies being pursued by the BJP governments both in the state and at the Centre. It is also a shot in the arm for Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami who has completed more than a year of his second term in office. It is being interpreted as a mandate in favour of the state government's priorities like constituting a committee to draft a Uniform Civil Code which was a major pre-poll promise in the 2022 assembly elections and the framing of stricter anti-copying and anti-conversion laws in the state besides the government crackdown on illegal land encroachments. Both Congress and BJP had thrown all their might into the nearly fortnight-long campaign holding a slew of roadshows, public meetings and door-to-door campaigns in the run up to the bypoll. Chief Minister Dhami and state BJP president Bhatt vigorously campaigned in the constituency for Dass holding several roadshows and public meetings while cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna was constantly camping in the constituency. While the BJP sought votes for Parwati Dass to help her carry forward the unfinished work of her husband, the Congress raised the issues of growing unemployment, uncontrolled inflation and insecurity of women to woo the electorate. —PTI

BJP Retains Bageshwar Assembly Seat In Uttarakhand

Ranchi: In the first battle between the NDA and 'I.N.D.I.A' in Jharkhand, the opposition alliance has emerged victorious and along with it, the political scoreboard in the state has also seen the rising prominence of the state's Chief Minister Hemant Soren. 
In the recent by-election held for the Dumri Assembly constituency in the state, I.N.D.I.A's candidate Bebi Devi of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has given them new confidence.
Amid opposition attacks, ongoing court cases, confrontations with the Central government on several issues, and action by the ED, Hemant Soren, who has been repeatedly entangled in difficulties, is now full of renewed enthusiasm.&nbsp;
Although Soren is apprehensive that the increasing ED and CBI scrutiny around him might lead to his imprisonment, he wants to raise his profile on the political stage before that happens so that the opposition parties do not gain any advantage from it.
At the time when the results of the Dumri Assembly by-election were announced, Soren was addressing a public gathering in Gua, Chaibasa.
The Chief Minister said: "Ever since our government came to power, conspiracies are being hatched against us. Attempts are being made to send me to jail by misusing constitutional institutions. But until they send me to jail, I will make Jharkhand strong."
Soren knows that as long as the public supports a politician, it doesn't matter whether they are in jail or out. This political lesson has been inherited by him, primarily from his father, Shibu Soren, who has been in jail several times on charges ranging from corruption to murder, but it has had no adverse impact on him or his party, JMM. Every time the BJP leaders attack him by saying that Hemant Soren is prepared to go to jail, he responds emphatically in public gatherings, "Is any Jharkhandi afraid of going to jail?"
Soren is once again on the radar of the ED. Last year, the ED interrogated him for nearly 10 hours in connection with the mining scam.
In its charge sheet, the ED has identified him as a protector of those accused of money laundering through illegal mining. Now, as part of the ongoing investigation into land scams in the state, the ED wants to question him.
The ED has sent him summons three times since August, but instead of appearing before the ED, he has challenged its actions in the Supreme Court, suggesting that the actions are politically motivated.
The ED had sent him a summons to appear on September 9, but he chose to travel to Delhi by a chartered plane to attend the G-20 summit dinner hosted by the President, rather than comply.
Soren's supporters chant a slogan for him - "Hemant hai toh himmat hai!" (If Hemant is here, there is courage!). It is safe to say that I.N.D.I.A's victory in the direct battle between I.N.D.I.A and NDA in Dumri has added to the "courage of Hemant."
The Dumri seat fell vacant following the death of Jagarnath Mahato, who was a minister in Hemant Soren's government. Even before the announcement of the by-election, Soren made a big move by inducting Bebi Devi, the widow of Jagarnath Mahato, into his cabinet without becoming a MLA and declared her as the party's candidate for the Dumri seat.
He had also started extensive development work and welfare schemes for the area. Getting Bebi Devi sworn in as a minister, even before the announcement of the election, was part of his political strategy.
During the election campaign, Soren organised several public meetings and roadshows in the area.
On the other hand, the NDA announced its candidate after the announcement of the by-election.
In the 2019 assembly elections, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Yashoda Devi was the runner-up in this seat. At that time, the BJP also fielded its candidate, who was in the third position.
This time, the AJSU Party and the BJP contested under the NDA alliance's banner. The AJSU Party's Yashoda Devi was declared the NDA candidate.
In 2019, the combined votes of the AJSU Party and BJP candidates were close to 72,000, while the winning JMM candidate Jagarnath Mahato received nearly 71,000 votes. The NDA assumed that this time, the AJSU-BJP's unity would lead to a transfer of the BJP's votes to the AJSU candidate, ensuring her victory.
Soren foiled this strategy of the NDA. In fact, he systematically wooed the minority i.e. Muslim voters to ensure the victory of his party's candidate Bebi Devi.
In 2019, the candidate of Asaduddin Owaisi's party had secured more than 24,000 votes. This time too, Owaisi fielded his candidate, but due to the strategy of Soren, 90 per cent votes of Muslims were transferred to his candidate. Owaisi's candidate got only 3,472 votes this time, which is about 20,000 less than the votes received in 2019.
However, after this victory, Soren's political aggression has intensified. Despite all the controversies, he has continued to score points against his opponents since becoming the Chief Minister after winning the 2019 elections.
After 2019, six assembly seats in the state -- Dumka, Madhupur, Mandar, Ramgarh, Bermo, and Dumri -- witnessed by-elections for various reasons, and the ruling alliance led by Hemant Soren won five of these seats.
It is clear that in the upcoming 2024 elections, whether it's for the Lok Sabha or the assembly, the NDA will face a tough challenge from Hemant Soren's I.N.D.I.A alliance in Jharkhand.&nbsp;

New York: Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic levelled with the Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles after securing the US Open title, beating Russia's Daniil Medvedev in an extremely fatiguing final at New York on Sunday night. Djokovic beat Medvedev by 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3.&nbsp;
With this win, the 36-year old legend has won his third Grand Slam of the year after the Australian Open and French Open.&nbsp;
Also, Djokovic has avenged the loss to Medvedev in the title clash of US Open 2021.&nbsp;
Despite fatigue, Djokovic captured his fourth US Open title after winning it in 2011, 2015 and 2018. The tennis star will return to the top of ATP Rankings on Monday after a tough 104-minute second set, which saw him save a set point and surge to a win. He is also at the top of ATP Live Rankings right now.&nbsp;
He has won three Major titles in a three times before as well, in 2011, 2015 and 2021.
For atleast set and a half, Djokovic dominated the match but Medvedev was not going down without a fight. There was a 31-shot rally in the second set, causing Djokovic to fall from fatigue. There was a change in the tone of the game from 3-3 in second set, but Djokovic pulled out a set winning volley.
The final set was more easier for Djokovic and he won the match.
Following the match, Djokovic was quoted as saying by WTA, “To make history of this sport is just something truly remarkable and special,”&nbsp;
“Obviously in every in every possible way, in every possible meaning of the word special. It is hard to describe in words. I had the childhood dream when I was seven, eight. I wanted to become the best player in the world and win the Wimbledon trophy. That was the only thing I wanted."
“But then when I realised that, obviously I started to dream new dreams and set new objectives, new goals. I never imagined that I would be here standing with you talking about 24 Slams," he added.

Thiruvananthapuram: On Monday at 10 a.m., Chandy Oommen walked into Kerala Legislative Assembly amid claps and took his oath as a legislator.  He took the oath in the name of God and after signing in the register, he walked up to the Speaker A.N.Shamseer and then shook hands with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and all those seated in the front row of the house.
Voting to Puthuppally election took place on September 5 after his father Oommen Chandy, who represented the constituency for a record 53 years starting from 1970, passed away on July 18.  And when votes was counted on September 8 Chandy Oommen won with a record breaking majority of 37,719 votes.  On Monday morning, he visited the local church and a temple, and then prayed before Chandy’s picture at his house and took blessings of his mother.  Now, all eyes are on his first speech and in all likelihood, it will come on Monday when the assembly decided to take up the adjournment motion moved by the Congress-led opposition, the explosive Solar scam case accused complaint that she was sexually exploited by Chandy, was dismissed by the CBI and Chandy has been exonerated.  CBI’s closure report in the case surfaced on Sunday giving the Congress a huge ammunition to take on the Vijayan government, which Congress feels was used to politically target him.
