Srinagar:&nbsp;A Border Security Force (BSF) constable allegedly shot himself dead at a camp in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials said. N Hazarika, 43, shot himself fatally from his service rifle at his deployment post in a school in the said district around 11:30 am, they said. The deceased was posted to the F company of the 108th battalion. The constable joined the BSF in 2004 and hailed from Jorhat district in Assam.—PTI

Jammu: An Army personnel allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle inside a camp here, officials said on Wednesday. Rifleman Yogesh Kumar was on guard duty at Kullian camp in Miran Sahib area on the outskirts of the city when he shot himself in the head, the officials said. Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, died on the spot and later his body was taken to hospital by police for postmortem. Police have started inquest proceedings. —PTI

Chandigarh: A drone from Pakistan was shot down by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab's Ajnala sector close to the Indo-Pakistan border on Friday, officials said. It was carrying a consignment from Pakistan to India. Senior BSF officials, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police, reached the spot. A search operation has been launched in the area.

Agra: 'Insulted' by his wife on several occasions, a retired Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan fired seven bullets into his wife's head with his licensed rifle while she was washing clothes in the bathroom. The incident happened on Wednesday. The accused, Mahendra Singh fled after committing the murder, but was arrested later in the night. Sources said he was apparently furious at his wife for "continuously insulting him on trivial matters". His daughter-in-law, Puja Singh, tried to intervene and was also targeted but she managed to escape and informed police. Based on a complaint filed by Puja, police registered an FIR against the accused under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC. Singh's eldest son was in another room when the incident took place while his younger brother had gone out to get his mobike repaired. "The accused has confessed to the crime. In a fit of rage following an argument, Mahendra fatally shot his wife, Neeta Singh (48)," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vikas Kumar. —IANS

Lakhimpur Kheri: A man allegedly shot himself in the head inside a moving car while driving on the state highway in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri in a suspected suicide attempt, police said. Ankit Srivastava was driving his Baleno car from Lakhimpur to Lucknow when he shot himself in the head. As a result of the fatal gunshot, the Baleno car lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch. Police officials said that the bullet fired by Ankit caused the vehicle to veer off the road. Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the local police along with the forensic team rushed to the spot. The police managed to retrieve Ankit's body from the car and have sent it to the district headquarters for a post-mortem examination. With the help of a crane, the car was successfully pulled out of the ditch. After the vehicle and the body were secured, the police launched a probe into the incident. —IANS
