New Delhi :&nbsp;The Samyukta Kisan Morcha on Tuesday said it will hold a panchayat on August 22 to protest against the government over the issues of MSP, Agnipath scheme and Lakhimpur violence. A meeting of the SKM, which had spearheaded the agitation against the now-scrapped farm laws, was held here and it was decided that the farmers' collective will not allow any political outfit to associate with it and will remain completely apolitical. The SKM claimed that some people had written to the Centre over the MSP issue without taking the other SKM members into confidence. "After this came out, we decided to have no relation with them. They tried to sell out the movement. Today, the whole SKM is here," an SKM leader told reporters here. A panchayat will be held at the Jantar Mantar here on August 22 over the issues of MSP, Agnipath scheme and Lakhimpur violence, he said. (PTI)

Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh): The Bhartiya Kisan Union-Tikait (BKU-Tikait) and several other constituents of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organisation of farmers, will hold a 75-hour sit-in at Rajapur Krishi-Utpadan Mandi Samiti in Lakhimpur Kheri from Thursday to press their pending demands.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha will hold the protest from August 18 to 20 to seek “justice” in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri during the violence that erupted in the Tikunia area of the district on October 3 last year.
Farmers are also demanding the withdrawal of cases registered against them during the stir against the Centre’s now-withdrawn farm laws, compensation to families of farmers who died during the year-long protest and legal guarantee for the minimum support price of crops.
“The 75-hour dharna has been organised to press for their pending demands,” said Dilbagh Singh, BKU-Tikait district president.
Bhudev Sharma, national organisation secretary of BKU-Tikait, said the farmers would demand dismissal of Union minister of state for home Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’ in connection with Tikunia violence of October 3, 2021, in which his son Ashish Mishra is the key accused.
He added their demands also included withdrawal of cases against the four farmers, who are in jail in connection with their alleged involvement in the Tikunia violence case.
Meanwhile, farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and various other parts of Uttar Pradesh have started arriving in Lakhimpur to participate in the demonstration.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in view of the farmers’ agitation.
Apart from BKU national president Naresh Tikait and national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait, Darshan Singh Pal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Yogendra Yadav and other prominent leaders of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha will also take part in the sit-in.&nbsp;

New Delhi (The Hawk): On Thursday, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) urged farmers to participate in the national "March to Raj Bhawans" campaigns and deliver a memorandum to the President on November 26 through their respective Governors.
The SKM National Council met earlier on November 14 at Gurudwara Rakabganj and strongly denounced the Modi government for betraying the farmers by failing to carry out the written promises made on December 9, 2021, including the withdrawal of the Electricity Bill and a legally guaranteed MSP, among other demands.
The gathering decided to advise all participating organisations to be ready to step up the fight nationwide.
The farmers' protest has entered its next phase with the "March to Raj Bhawans."
Additionally, it urged farmers all over the nation to participate in ongoing, committed national struggles until the government complies with all demands, including "Karz Mukti - Poora Daam" (Freedom from Indebtedness and Full Remunerative Price).
Since the implementation of neo-liberal policies that exacerbated the agrarian crisis and peasant suicides, farmers have been fighting for two major demands: legally guaranteed MSP for all crops and freedom from debt.
In India, more than 4 lakh farmers have committed suicide since 1995, and 68% of peasant households are in debt or other financial difficulty. These demands, along with those for the repeal of three farm laws that favoured corporations and the Electricity Bill 2020, sparked a year-long historic farmers' movement at the Delhi borders beginning on November 26, 2020, which received active support from almost all groups of Indian workers.
The withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022, legal action against the accused Lakhimpur Kheri farmer and journalist Ajay Mishra Teni, dismissal from his position as Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, and a comprehensive and efficient crop insurance programme are among the other demands made by farmers.
This afternoon, the morcha held a press conference at which Darshan Pal, Hannan Mollah, Yudhvir Singh, Avik Saha, and Ashok Dhawale spoke. The following meeting, where the movement's next phase will be decided and announced, is scheduled for December 8 in Karnal.

SKM exhorts farmers to continue their fight until all demands are satisfied

Kolkata (The Hawk): On Thursday night, a fire was reported at the public SSKM Medical College &amp; Hospital in central Kolkata, but it was in an area with no patients or staff present.
Sources claim that the fire was discovered at the CT scan building next to the hospital's emergency department at about 10.15 p.m.
According to hospital sources, no patients or their loved ones were in the area when the fire was discovered. There were some hospital employees present who could be quickly and safely evacuated.
Nine fire fighters arrived on the scene right away and got to work putting out the fire. The building where the fire was discovered had its electricity cut off. The fire was started by a short circuit in a CT scan machine, according to the preliminary investigation.
Aroop Biswas, the state's minister of power, sports, and youth affairs, hurried right away to the scene. Although the firemen are attempting to find the concealed pocket fires, he told the media that the fire is largely under control.
"The fire has completely destroyed a CT scan machine. There had not been a single death or injury. Actually, there was tension because the area where the fire was discovered is close to the emergency department, where patients and their loved ones swarm constantly "said he.

New Delhi: Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) will hold a protest on June 1 in several parts of the country, demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
On Monday, IANS had reported that the protest is likely to be shifted to Delhi borders like how farmers' agitation was held as wrestlers were in talks with farmers' unions and khaps. The move came after the Delhi Police cleared all signs of the wrestlers' month-long protest, taking away all items that the grapplers had brought to Jantar Mantar to protest against the WFI chief over sexual misconduct allegations.
On Tuesday a statement from Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) further strengthened the report, and it stated that Bajrang Punia attended the meeting organised by SKM.
"Bajrang Punia, representative of the Wrestlers' Action Committee, was a special invitee in the meeting organised by SKM. Bajrang said that the working committee of wrestlers will fully support the decisions of SKM in support of their struggle and will make all efforts to continue their fight for justice till the arrest of WFI chief, accused of sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
"It was assured in the meeting that SKM would support and actively participate in the struggle of the wrestlers till their victory. After discussion in the meeting, further course of action was decided."
SKM will coordinate with all other sections including trade unions, women, youth, students and businessmen, intellectuals and social movements to make this action massive and successful, it said.
"On June 5, SKM plans to expose Brij Bhushan criminal conduct so far and burn his effigy at village and town level across India. SKM will call a meeting of the National Council in New Delhi immediately after that and decide the future course of action to continue the struggle," the statement read.
The protesting wrestlers have now reached their respective homes and are in talks with each other through phones and discussing further plans.

Security officers are on high alert at all border crossings, and additional pickets have been erected, according to the Delhi Police.
We have increased security at Delhi's borders with the deployment of additional police officers and the installation of additional pickets. We need to make sure everything stays in order and nothing bad happens. According to a senior police official, "this has been done as a precaution."
He stated that border checks are being conducted on vehicles coming into Delhi from adjoining states.
Wrestlers have been demanding Singh's arrest for allegedly sexually abusing female grapplers, including a minor. On Tuesday, the SKM, an umbrella organisation of farmers' unions, called for nationwide rallies on June 1.
The SKM issued a statement justifying its protest calls, saying they were directed towards protecting Indian wrestlers' and other groups' "democratic right to protest" and seeking the arrest of Singh, a BJP MP.
It pledged to work with other groups to organise rallies, including labour unions, women's groups, youth groups, students, and intellectuals.
As they attempted to march to the newly inaugurated Parliament building on Sunday, the Delhi Police withdrew the protesting wrestlers from Jantar Mantar, where they had been camped out since April 23 demanding Singh's arrest.

New Delhi: Delhi Police have tightened security measures along the city's borders, including Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur, in the wake of a nationwide demonstration call by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) in support of the country's top grapplers protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
"Additional police personnel have been deployed, and extra checkpoints were set up to prevent any undesirable occurrences," a senior police official said on Thursday.
"Security has been heightened, and we have increased the presence of police personnel while setting up additional checkpoints at Delhi's borders. Our objective is to ensure the maintenance of law and order and prevent any untoward incidents," said another officer. The officer also mentioned that vehicles entering Delhi from neighbouring states are being subjected to thorough inspections at the borders. On Tuesday, the SKM had announced demonstrations and effigy burning of the WFI chief at villages and town centres on June 5, the day RSS workers and Mahants have called a rally in support of Brij Bhushan in Ayodhya.
The SKM also condemned the brutal repression of wrestlers protest on May 28, the day women wrestlers had called mahila mahapanchayat. "Modi Government's action against the wrestlers protesting against sexual harassment proves it's anti-woman and anti-people agenda. The crackdown against the protest infringes the citizens right to protest which has been repeatedly upheld by the Supreme Court," it said.
The SKM also demanded withdrawal of FIR against protestors and arrest of Brij Bhushan.

Chandigarh: Farmer leaders will meet the Punjab Governor on Tuesday in connection with their various demands as the three-day protest under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha continued for the second day on Monday.
Scores of farmers gathered at the Mohali-Chandigarh border on Sunday to press the Centre to accept their various demands, including a legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP).  Farmers are demanding the withdrawal of cases filed against them during the 2020-21 stir against the now-repealed farm laws, compensation and jobs for any one of the family members of farmers who died during the stir, debt waiver, and pension. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is an umbrella body of various farmer unions.
&nbsp;Addressing the media here, farmer leader Harmeet Singh Kadian said their leaders will meet the governor on Tuesday.  “We will give our memorandum to the governor on Tuesday at 11 am,” said Kadian.  Farmer leaders further said the next course of action of the SKM will be decided on Tuesday.  Various farmers' bodies, including the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), BKU (Lakhowal), BKU (Dakunda), which are part of the SKM, are participating in the protest.  Heavy security arrangements were made because of the protest and the traffic was diverted to alternative routes on some roads.  Farmers from Haryana also converged at Sector 5 in Panchkula, where policemen were deployed in large numbers.  Farmers from many parts of Punjab on Sunday began gathering at the Mohali-Chandigarh border near Phase-11 in Mohali.  They came on tractor trolleys, cars and other vehicles with a cargo of essential items such as ration, bedding, utensils, cooking gas, and cylinders for the three-day protest. Farmers have erected tents and set up a stage in the middle of the road, while farmer leaders are addressing the protesters.  The Punjab and Chandigarh Police have beefed up security near the Mohali-Chandigarh border, erecting barricades and stationing water cannons. The Chandigarh and the Mohali police have already issued traffic advisories.

New Delhi: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) condemned the Central Government for resorting to what it termed was the excessive use of state power and mass arrests to prevent the Delhi Chalo March of farmers organisations on Tuesday. In a statement, the SKM said that it was shocking that drones were used to drop tear gas shells on the farmers by the administration. SKM also called on all its member organisations and their units across India to strongly protest against the attack on farmers in Punjab on February 16, in all the villages across India and make the Grameen Bandh and Industrial/Sectoral Strike across India even more massive, extensive and successful. The SKM in its statement said that unleashing the police and armed security forces to attack the peaceful struggle of farmers reveals that the Centre has lost the confidence of the people. In a democratic society, every citizen has the right to protest peacefully. "The government has the responsibility to resolve the burning issues of every section of the people and address their concrete demands to protect their livelihood," the statement added. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha further warned the Centre not to treat the people who are forced to come to the street on their genuine demands as the enemies of the government or the country. "The main demand of the farmers MSP@C2+50% had been the promise of the BJP and the present Prime Minister in the election manifesto of 2014. Even after 10 years, the promise has not been implemented," the statement added. The SKM has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to immediately withdraw the forces and protect the rights of farmers to organise the Delhi Chalo protest and resolve the farmers' and workers' struggle through discussions. SKM has also issued an appeal to all like-minded organisations to come forward to build a united issue-based struggle on common demands. Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee General Secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said, "...There are reports in the media that the MSP guaranteeing law cannot be formed so soon...All, we are saying is to give us a legal guarantee on that (MSP) so that we don't sell crops below that MSP. So, there is no question of a Committee...We would want the PM to step forward and speak with the farmers..." Meanwhile, the Haryana police, detained several protesting farmers. The police deployed concrete slabs, iron nails, barricades, barbed wires, and police and paramilitary personnel at Kurukshetra in Haryana in view of the 'Delhi Chalo' march by the farmers. To ensure law and order, Delhi police enforced Section 144, restricting the entry of tractor trolleys and large assemblies. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, reacted to the protest, asserting that the party, if voted to power, will give a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) to every farmer as per the Swaminathan Commission. In a post on X, Rahul said "Farmer brothers, today is a historic day! Congress has decided to give a legal guarantee of MSP to every farmer on crops as per the Swaminathan Commission. This step will change the lives of 15 crore farmer families by ensuring their prosperity. This is the first guarantee of Congress on the path of justice." The farmers have put forth 12 demands before the central government for which they're marching to Delhi. The protest this time has been called by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha and Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee led by farmer union leaders Jagjeet Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher.

Kisan Morcha condemns police action on farmers; calls for protest on Feb 16 across India

Chandigarh: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which spearheaded an agitation in 2020-21 against three farm laws that have since been repealed, will hold a meeting here on Thursday to discuss the situation at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana where thousands of farmers are camping as part of the 'Dilli Chalo' call given by their organisations.
Several SKM leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and other states have assembled here for the meeting.  Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) general secretary Harinder Singh Lakhowal said the SKM will discuss what happened at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points on Wednesday.
Besides, the farmers' body will also take a decision on how to support the ongoing agitation, Lakhowal added.  The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) are spearheading the 'Dilli Chalo' march to press the BJP-led Centre to accept their demands, including a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farm loan waiver.
However, the SKM is not a part of the 'Dilli Chalo' march.  Farmer leaders put the march on hold for two days on Wednesday after a protester was killed and about 12 police personnel were injured in clashes at Khanauri.  The deceased farmer was identified as Shubhkaran Singh (21), a resident of Ballo village in Bathinda district of Punjab.  Police fired tear-gas shells at the two border points multiple times to disperse the protesters when they attempted to move towards the layers of barricades stalling their march to the national capital.  Thousands of farmers are camping at Khanauri and Shambhu with their tractor-trolleys and trucks.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said on Wednesday that they will decide the next course of action on Friday evening.  The Punjab farmers are also demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pension for farmers and farm labourers, no hike in the electricity tariff, withdrawal of police cases and 'justice' for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence in Uttar Pradesh, reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 and compensation to the families of the farmers who died during the agitation against the three farm laws in 2020-21.

Amritsar/Hoshiarpur/Hisar: Farmers under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of several farm unions on Monday parked their tractors along the highways at many places in Punjab and Haryana demanding that the agriculture sector be taken out of the WTO agreement.
This comes amid thousands of farmers staying put at Khanauri and Shambhu points on Punjab's border with Haryana after their 'Delhi Chalo' march, spearheaded by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) to press the Centre for various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops, was stopped by security forces.  Farmers under the banner of SKM, which spearheaded the 2020-21 farmers' stir, had announced to hold their 'Quit WTO Day' demonstration from 12 noon till 3 pm on Monday wherein they would park their tractors along the state and national highways without obstructing vehicular traffic.
In Punjab's Hoshiarpur, farmers parked their tractors at several locations including the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway. Led by Doaba Kisan Committee's state president Jangveer Singh Chauhan, farmers also parked their tractors on a road at Bijli Ghar Chowk in Tanda.  Addressing a gathering, Chauhan criticised World Trade Organization (WTO) policies, calling those 'anti-farmers'.  Members of several other farm outfits such as Bharti Kisan Union (Rajewal), BKU (Qadian), BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) also held demonstrations and parked their tractors on Hoshiarpur-Phagwara Road, Nasrala-Taragarh Road, Dosarka-Fatehpur Road, Bullowal-Allowal Road and Bhunga-Hariana Road.  The protesters also demanded legal guarantees for MSP, debt waiver, implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations and pension for farmers.  In Amritsar, farmers parked their vehicles along the highways in Ajnala, Jandiala Guru, Rayya and Beas. In Ludhiana, farmers owing allegiance to the SKM, parked their tractors along the highway on Ludhiana-Chandigarh road to register their protest against the WTO.  In Haryana's Hisar, farmers held protests at 50 locations by parking their tractors along the state and national highways.  All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) state vice president Shamsher Singh Nambardar said the demonstrations were held at places including Surewala Chowk, Mayyar Toll, Chaudhariwas, Bagla Mor, Badopatti and Bas Toll.  He claimed that the government was not giving MSP on all crops because of WTO policies.

New Delhi: Farmers in large numbers were gathered at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan to hold 'Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat' today. Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader also called the Bharatiya Janata Party an "anti-farmer". Samyukt Kisan Morcha has called for a one-day Delhi Chalo, in which all the organizations related to the front are gathering at Ramlila Ground in Delhi. Thousands of farmers have arrived.
Farmers taking part in the Mahapanchayat said that the stage proceedings will start from noonon Thursday.

Darshan Pal, SKM leader said that ever since they first came to Delhi (in 2020 Kisan Andolan), they have expanded their network. "We have made laws for how we have to work," he said.
"Today's Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat is being organized because we want to tell the people of the country that the BJP government has betrayed us. Today we are trying to show the anti-farmer face of BJP in the entire country. Till now people are facing problems in reaching here. We were also given permission two days ago and many conditions were imposed. we condemn this. We want to tell you that 'Delhi ab Door nahi hai," he added. On security arrangements, DCP Central M Harsha Vardhan told ANI that the police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure that law and order are maintained.
"The organising group has also given a written undertaking in which there are various points relating to maintaining law and order. A lot of farmers have come and it is an ongoing process. But we are hopeful that it will be under the limit of what the SKM leaders have told us. Sufficient forces are available with us. We are trying that without any law and order disturbance and with minimal traffic disturbance everything happens," he said. Notably, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has appealed to farmers and workers to make the 'Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat' on March 14 massive and peaceful. As per the report, preparations are in full swing to ensure massive participation and make the event politically significant and successful, the SKM said in a press release. The Mahapanchayat will adopt Sankalp Patra or Letter of Resolution to intensify the fight against the pro-corporate, communal, dictatorial policies of the Modi Government, to fight to save farming, food security, livelihood and the people from corporate loot. "In the context of the forthcoming general election to the Lok Sabha, the Maha Panchayat will declare the future plan of action of how to intensify the ongoing struggle to achieve the genuine demands of the farmers as well as the workers," the press release stated. SKM appealed to all the Mass and class organisations and unions of workers, students, youth and women to join the Mahapanchayat. The Delhi Police had issued the NOC for conducting the Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan on March 14 and arranging parking space and other basic amenities like water, toilets, and ambulance with the support of the Municipal Administration of Delhi. SKM expressed its pleasure and welcomed the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Chaduni group of farmers to join the Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat. The efforts of the six-member committee to coordinate with the Kisan organisations for greater issue-based unity and rally maximum farmers against the anti-farmer, anti-worker policies are continuing. "SKM strongly protests against the surrender of the Modi Government before the Developed European Countries and signed the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement," the press release said. The SKM alleged that this agreement would destroy the home market and the people's livelihood massively.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's health condition is 'stable', a senior official of the state administration said on Friday.
The 69-year-old Banerjee, who suffered a major injury on her forehead and nose during a fall inside her Kalighat residence in South Kolkata on Thursday evening, also 'slept well', he said. "The CM's health condition is stable. She had a good sleep in the night as senior doctors kept a close watch on her throughout the period. This morning there will be another assessment of her condition," the official told PTI on Friday morning.

"She had a cerebral concussion and had a sharp cut on her forehead and nose which was bleeding profusely. Initially, she was assessed by senior doctors of the neurosurgery, medicine, and cardiology departments of our institute and her vitals were stabilised. Three stitches were applied on her forehead, and one on her nose and the required dressing was done. Investigations like ECG, echocardiogram, CT-Scan, and Doppler were done," SSKM hospital director Manimoy Bandyopadhyay said. Meanwhile, police are yet to lodge a complaint in connection with the fall of the chief minister though they have upped the security arrangements in and around Banerjee's residence in the Kalighat area, an officer said. Referring to SSKM Hospital's bulletin that the CM had a fall 'due to some push', the police officer, however, declined to comment on whether they were planning to record the CM's statement or lodge any suo moto complaint in this regard. "As of now, there has been no complaint lodged in connection with the fall of the CM. We have increased the security around the CM's residence," he told PTI, adding that they were looking whether there was any security lapse or not. Banerjee gets a 'Z+ category' cover and has a special team of officers looking after her security and even at her residence. The TMC on Thursday evening posted pictures of Banerjee bleeding from her forehead. Party national general secretary and Banerjee's nephew Abhishek took her to the hospital in his vehicle and got her admitted to the hospital.
