Lucknow: The Mankameshwar temple, the oldest Shiva temple in the state capital, has announced a dress code for those performing 'Rudrabhishek' in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.For Rudrabhishek in the sanctum sanctorum, the rules of Ujjain Mahakal temple will have to be followed. It will be mandatory for men to wear dhoti and women to wear sari.Mahant Divyagiri said that if the dress code is followed in every institution, then it should be the same at religious places as well.This temple, situated on the banks of Gomti, belongs to the Ramayana period. It is believed that after leaving Mother Sita in exile, King Lakshman of Lakhanpur stayed here and worshiped Lord Shiva, which helped him get inner peace. After that, the Mankameshwar temple was established here later on. —IANS

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday offered prayers and performed 'Rudrabhishek' in Shri Gorakhnath Temple here on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
Taking to Twitter, UP CM said, "Today on the auspicious occasion of 'Mahashivratri'
@Gorakhnathmndr, I performed Rudrabhishek according to the rules and regulations. May the blessings of Devadhidev Mahadev always be with all of us. Har Har Mahadev."
Today on the occasion of Mahashivratri, devotees thronged temples across India from Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi to the Shree Lingaraj temple in Odisha's Bhubaneswar.
'Bhasma Aarti' was also performed at the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, this morning.
Aarti was also performed at Kashi Vishwanath Temple, devotees thronged Jharkhandi Mahadev Temple in Gorakhpur to offer prayers today.
Apart from this, Babulnath Temple in Maharashtra's Mumbai also witnessed devotees' presence. Everyone offered prayers to Shiva Linga through water, shower petals, fruits etc.
"We have gathered here at the temple of Lord Shankar on the occasion of Mahashivratri to seek his blessings, I come every year," Paresh from Malad said.
"We worship God here with Veda Mantras. This is the glory of Shiva. On the day of Mahashivaratri, the Lord appeared in the form of a Linga and as per the order of the Lord we worship the Linga," a Hindu seer of Babulnath Temple told ANI.
Maha Shivratri is one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals which is celebrated across India. Chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' are heard in all parts of the country on this day. A day ahead of the auspicious occasion, 1,100-year-old Shree Lingaraj Temple in Odisha's Bhubaneswar was decorated with luminous and decorative lights.
Maha Shivratri, meaning "The Great Night of Shiva", is celebrated with the belief that Lord Shiva performs "Tandava Nrutya" on this very day. The grand festival marks the convergence of the forces of Shiva and Shakti. The duo of Shiva and Shakti is considered to be the epitome of love, power, and togetherness.
Among the famous Lord Shiva shrines of Odisha, Lord Loknath Temple in Puri, Lord Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, Lord Dhabaleshwar Temple in Cuttack, Lord Kapileswar Temple in Dhenkanal, Lord Panchalingeswar Temple in Balasore, Baba Akhandalmani Temple in Bhadrak, Ladukeswar Temple in Nayagarh, Gupteswar Temple in Koraput are about thousand years old and attract lakhs of devotees on the auspicious occasion every year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Haridwar: In Haridwar, the anniversary of Gupteshwar Mahadev Temple was celebrated with pomp in the park located in Shivlok Colony. Dignitaries of the city and people of surrounding areas were present.
 Rudrabhishek was performed at Gupteshwar Mahadev Temple located in Shiv Lok Colony and Bhajan evening was organized.
 The chief convenor of the program, Mrs. Krishna Aggarwal told that like every year, this year also the anniversary of the temple was celebrated with pomp. Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed Rudrabhishek at Groakhnath temple in Gorakhpur on the first day of Shrawan month on Tuesday. The CM also prayed for the happiness and prosperity of the people of the state. CM Yogi offered bilva patra, lotus flower etc to Lord Shiva and performed Rudrabhishek with milk and seasonal fruit juice at the Shakti Peeth located on the first floor of his residence at Gorakhnath temple. The chief priest of the Math, Acharya Ramanuja Tripathi and other Acharyas completed the ritual of Rudrabhishek by chanting the mahamantras. After Rudrabhishek, CM Yogi performed Havan and Aarti amidst chanting of Vedic mantras and wished the people of the state a healthy, happy, prosperous and peaceful life. In the Hindu calendar, 'Sawan', also known as 'Shravan, is the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar and one of the holiest months of the year. This year, the Shravan period stretches for two months instead of the usual one-month period. Previously, an almost two-month-long Shravan period was observed approximately 19 years ago. July 10 marks the first fasting Monday of the period this year, while August 28 marks the last Monday fast of the period. According to the Hindu Calendar, an extra month is added every three years when the Sun changes its zodiac sign or transits from one zodiac to another. This transit is also known as Sankranti. As a result, there are 12 Sankranti in a solar year, and the month with no Sankranti is termed Malmas or Adhikmas. Typically, no auspicious or new tasks or rituals are performed during this month. Malmas will begin on July 18, 2023, and end on August 16, 2023, this year. This year, Sawan commenced on July 4 and will continue till August 31. —ANI

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday visited Piteshwarnath Shiv Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur and offered prayers on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. During the occasion, the Chief Minister performed 'Rudrabhishek' at Gorakhnath Temple. He performed 'Jalabhishek' on his arrival at the temple.He also prayed for the welfare and prosperity of the people of the state. CM Yogi performed Lord Shiva's 'Rudrabhishek' with cow milk and sugarcane juice in Shakti Mandir at the Gorakhnath Temple. The chief minister also performed 'havan' and 'aarti' there. The CM also offered prayers at the Shiva temple located in the Gorakhnath temple complex. He then offered prayers to Lord Nandi here and performed 'Jalabhishek' of Lord Shiv. After completing the Maha Shivaratri rituals at Gorakhnath temple, CM Yogi proceeded to the Mansarovar temple, where he performed another 'Jalabhishek'. Following this, Chief Minister Adityanath interacted with local representatives and people at Guru Gorakhnath Vidyapeeth, expressing concern for their well-being and blessing the children. Addressing developmental issues, the Chief Minister urged officials to ensure unhindered progress at the local level. As per religious beliefs, deep ties exist between Gorakshpeeth and the Piteshwarnath temple. It is believed that every Maha Shivratri, 'Gorakshpeethadhishwar' visits this place to perform 'Jalabhishek.' Earlier in the day, in a display of devotion and religious fervour, hundreds of devotees gathered at the iconic Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi to celebrate Maha Shivaratri. Maha Shivratri is considered auspicious for spiritual growth. The festival, also known as 'the great night of Shiva', celebrates the overcoming of darkness and ignorance. It also celebrates the grand marriage of the lord of destruction, Shiva -- with the goddess of fertility, love, and beauty -- Parvati, who is also known as Shakti (power). According to Hindu mythology, on the night of the marriage, Lord Shiva had a very diverse group of acquaintances including Hindu gods, goddesses, animals, and demons escorting him to the house of the goddess. The duo of Shiv and Shakti is considered to be the epitome of love, power, and togetherness. The festival marking the initiation of their bond - 'Maha Shivratri' - is celebrated with great fervour across India. —ANI
