Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police have issued an alert to all district police chiefs to intensify security around mosques for Friday prayers. The directive comes after the violence in Kanpur on June 3. According to the official spokesman, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been imposed in Kanpur and Lucknow to prevent public gathering on roads and public places.Additional Director General (ADG) of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said police deployment has been done strategically at sensitive and mixed population localities and places of worship across different districts. The Police officials are in touch with clerics and other group leaders for maintaining peace and communal harmony, he added. The ADG said special deployment has been made in sensitive districts, including Firozabad, Shamli, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Agra, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, and Lucknow. He added that the police personnel carried out a riot control drill in some districts, including Firozabad. Kumar said there was extra alertness in Ayodhya, taking note of the rumours of a ‘Bharat Bandh’ appeal on June 10 circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. The ADG said 12 companies of provincial armed constabulary (PAC) are already camping in Kanpur while a few companies have been sent to sensitive districts.In Kanpur, tight security arrangements were in place with the deployment of 12 companies of the PAC, three additional IPS officers and two companies of the Rapid Action Force. The Police have constituted a committee to look into cases of alleged false arrests after the June 3 violence in Kanpur.The committee headed by Joint Commissioner of Police, Anand Prakash Tiwari has three other members — DCPs Pramod Kumar, BBTGS Murthy and ACP Mohd Akmal Khan. In the last four days, the police arrested 54 people and were making efforts to establish the identity of at least 600 others allegedly involved in the Kanpur clashes. A Special Investigation Team had also been formed to examine video and CCTV footages of the violence. Kanpur Shahar Qazi, Saqib Adeeb Misbahi has appealed to the people saying, “Communal harmony and peace are paramount. If the community members have any grievances, they should come to me and I would take it up with the authorities.” The Sunni Ulema Council has also appealed to the Muslims to go home straight away after the Friday prayers and cross-check information in case of any rumours. “A lot of wrong information is in circulation, do not believe until you have cross-checked it,” said Haji Salees, Convener of the Council. In Lucknow, leaders of some Hindu right-wing groups were placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure.—IANS

He said Friday prayers were held peacefully in most places across the state. This comes following clashes last week in Kanpur over the remarks on the Prophet at a TV debate some days earlier. Lucknow: Islamic institutions and clerics have urged the community members to maintain peace during Friday prayers.The Islamic Centre of India (ICI) has issued a six-point advisory, which says that no sloganeering, protests and demonstrations should be held, before or after Friday prayers. "ICI appeals to all Muslims not to resort to any sloganeering, protests or demonstrations before or after Friday prayers in or outside the mosque. Various individuals and associations, including those representing the community, have taken up the recent issues at the right forum through right channels and the community should not involve itself in taking up the cause individually or as a crowd," said chairman of ICI, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali.He asserted that the Muslims should peacefully gather at the mosque for prayers, listen to the mandatory Khutba (sermon) delivered by the priest, offer special prayers for peace, communal harmony in the society and peacefully disperse from the mosque. The advisory says mosques are meant for offering prayers and must be used for offering prayers. "Prophet Mohammed always carried the message of peace, love, compassion and humility and we should take his message forward," he said. Several other clerics including Maulana Kalbe Jawad has also asked members of the community to refrain from any kind of protest and return to their homes after offering Friday prayers. —IANS

Flag marches had been held in Saharanpur and Deoband the past couple of days as a precautionary measure.Aligarh too, reportedly, witnessed no confrontation or protests after the prayers, where they were observed amid tight security.According to reports, the district authorities had conferred with the prominent people of both communities and top officials, including the district magistrate Inder Vir Singh, to discuss ways of restoring the peace. "We have made elaborate arrangements for the Friday prayers. Meetings with religious gurus, civil society and members of peace committees were held in different districts. These meetings were attended by senior officials of range and zone and also by concerned SHOs and outposts in-charge," Prashant Kumar had said on Thursday. "Help of civil defence and digital volunteers (of UP police) is also taken to maintain peace in the state," he had said.In Prayagraj, a mob had set on fire a few motorcycles and carts, and also attempted to set ablaze a police vehicle last Friday. Bareilly (The Hawk): After right-wing organisations allegedly complained to the police about a prayer song sung by the students, the state's Education department reportedly suspended the principal of a government school in the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh.
No arrests have been made despite the police having developed a case.
The suspension happened following a widely shared video of the kids reciting the well-known Urdu prayer "lab pe aati hai dua banke tamanna meri" at the morning assembly.
The portion of the video that is heard during the children's singing of "mere allah burai se bachaana mujhko" is shown.
The prayer, according to the police, has to do "with one faith" and is not included in the government schools' daily prayer routine.
The prayer "related to a community and was not on the approved list," according to a senior police official in the region.
According to the Education Department, the principal has been suspended based on the available facts, and an investigation will be carried out.
Mohammad Iqbal, an Urdu poet who also wrote the well-known words "Sare jahan se achcha Hindustan hamara," wrote the song in question in 1902.
2019 saw the suspension of another headteacher in the state's Pilibhit district after the children were overheard singing the song. The authorities had acted after receiving a complaint from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad chapter in the area.
The headmaster was allegedly suspended because he did not require the kids to sing the national anthem, according to the Pilibhit District Magistrate.

Lucknow: Elaborate police deployment has been made at mosques across Uttar Pradesh for ‘Alvida’ prayers on the last Friday of Ramzan.
Special Director General (SDG), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, said: “In addition to the routine deployment of over 1.25 civil police personnel in different districts, the state police have provided extra police force of around 7,000 under training sub-inspectors, 249 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary, three companies of State Disaster Response Force and five companies of central armed police force. Moreover, cops in civvies will be deployed with body worn cameras and binoculars to keep vigil during the prayers.”
He said drone cameras and high-resolution CCTV cameras would be installed at sensitive spots during the prayers.
As many as 4,800 two-wheeler and four-wheeler police response vehicles have been deployed for continuous patrolling during the festival while 1,785 quick response teams equipped with riot control equipment have been deployed at sensitive spots identified across the state, he added. The SDG said 2,933 sensitive spots or hot spots have been identified across the state, adding that these areas have been distributed under 849 zones and 2,460 sectors and the force deployment has been done accordingly.
“All the social media platforms are under strict vigil and stern action will be taken against those involved in posting objectionable content that may disturb law and order or incite communal sentiments,” said Kumar.
He said the ‘Alvida’ prayers would be offered at 29,439 mosques, while Eid prayers will take place at 33,304 places, including 29,439 mosques and 3,865 Eidgahs across the state.
The police and district administration has held 2,669 meetings with civil defence, clerics, peace committees and other responsible citizens to maintain coordination during the festival.
Senior police officials held 1871 meetings with the managers and organisers of the religious gatherings to ensure peace and communal harmony during the prayers.
Besides, 1,561 meetings had been conducted with municipal corporations, health and power departments to make all necessary arrangements for the festival, he added.&nbsp;

Kanpur: Prominent Muslim clerics in Kanpur have strongly opposed the FIRs registered against hundreds of people for offering prayers on roads on the last Friday of Ramzan and Eid.
Terming the police action 'unjustifiable', the clerics, who demanded that the cases be withdrawn, asked if the government or the district administration had decided that no religious event be held in public.
Citing their displeasure, the clerics, who met the Kanpur police commissioner, said in a memorandum: "All of us are guilty of the crime. Arrest not only the 1,700 people booked, but thousands of others also for the crimes mentioned in the FIRs."
The delegation that met the police chief included Shahr Qazi (Bareli) Mushtaq Mushahidi, Shahr Qazi (Deobandi) Qari Mamoor Ahmed and a dozen other clerics under the banner of Ulema Ahle Sunnat Mushwarati Board.
Last week, the Kanpur police had lodged three FIRs in Bajaria, Jajmau and Babupurwa against over 1,700 people for offering prayers on roads and defying the IPC section 144 that was in force.
The charges were IPC sections 186 (obstructing a public servant in discharging duties), 188 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant), 283 (causing danger, obstruction or injury to any person in any public way), 341 (wrongful restraint, and 353 (criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty). "Such an incident has never happened during festivals that are observed with peace and harmony. The FIRs are aimed at tearing apart the social fabric. Either they be withdrawn or thousands of us who prayed that day will offer their arrest," Mushahidi said. The Kanpur police, however, did not respond to the demands put forth by the clerics before the police commissioner. —IANS

Eid Al-Adha is observed on the 70th day of Eid Ul-Fitr or Ramadan. On this day, the Muslims visit the nearest mosque after a morning bath and attend a mass prayer to read the Namaz. After reading the Namaj, they exchange greetings by hugging one another. "On Eid Al-Adha, we take a bath in the early morning and then come to the mosque for Namaz. We already have performed the Namaz ceremony. After this, back in our home we sacrifice various animals and divide them into three halves- one is given to the poor people another half to the relatives and the third is consumed by ourselves. Roza is not required during Eid Al-Adha and it is observed after about two and half months after the Ramzan," Taushin Ansari told ANI. Meanwhile, the Government of Nepal has announced a public holiday on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. Agra: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind is planning to hold 'yaum-e- dua' (prayer day) on Friday peace and unity over the UCC issue. Local community groups, clerics and imams of mosques have been asked to hold the "special prayers" in their respective areas. “We are going to hold 'yaum-e-dua' to pray for peace and unity," said Hakimuddin Qasmi, general secretary of Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind. Jamiat's Uttar Pradesh secretary Qari Zakir Husain Qasmi said: "We will not accept UCC. On Friday, imams before the namaz in mosques all over the country will address the community and speak about UCC.” A local imam said on Wednesday: “Clerics have directed us to mention UCC before the Friday prayers and we are making our preparations for it.” The Jamiat is also considering taking up the UCC matter with President Droupadi Murmu and also plans to write to all the Chief Ministers and leaders of opposition parties. Qasmi further said that their working committee meeting took place where several decisions regarding UCC have been taken. "At the meeting, it was also decided that public demonstrations should be avoided. Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday offered prayers at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. CM Yogi performed a sacred consecration ritual for Mahakal with cow's milk, ghee, curd, honey, sugar, and fruit juice. He reached Mahakal Lok by helicopter from Indore airport and posted on social media - "Jai Mahakal". He said that he worshipped Baba Mahakal and wished for the good health and prosperity of the people of Uttar Pradesh. The ceremony included the worship of Mahakal with Panchamrit, Rudraksh garlands, Bilva leaves, ‘Makhana garlands,’ saffron, sandalwood, and fragrant perfumes. During the worship of Mahakaleshwar, Umesh Nath Maharaj of Valmiki Dham, Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav, and MLA Paras Jain were also present with him. Priests Rupam Guru and Navneet Guru conducted the puja. Following this ceremony, CM Yogi proceeded to the Bhartrihari Cave. As per tradition, he was welcomed with garlands of Rudraksha and pearls amidst chanting of mantras. Additionally, he was presented with a brass trident. Inside the cave, he visited the sacred meditation sites of Guru Gorakhnath, King Bhartrihari, and Gopichand Maharaj. Thiruvananthapuram: Elizabeth Antony, wife of A.K Antony, has said that it was due to her prayers which paved way for Antony’s health to recover and was able to again become a CWC member.
She said that it was again because of her prayers that her son Anil Antony was able to join the BJP.
Elizabeth Antony was addressing a Catholic prayer congregation - Kreupasanam Marian Shrine.
“My husband is an atheist and doesn’t go to Church, but he gave me the freedom to pray. I started to regularly pray, especially for my husband who had serious health issues,” said Elizabeth.
“It was after eight months of intense prayers things started to change. I got relief and so did my husband. Then came his recent nomination to the CWC,” said Elizabeth.
She said that with the Congress leadership taking a decision at their Chintan Shibiram that children of leaders will not be allowed to join politics.
“It dawned to me that both our sons will find it difficult to enter mainstream politics and moreover my husband is one person who will never go out of his way to do anything.
“It was around this time Anil Antony told me that he got a call from the Prime Minister’s Office to join the BJP. I went to prayer before the Catholic prayer congregation - Kreupasanam Marian Shrine.
“I told the priest, at the shrine about Anil, as we all along have been die hard Congress supporters. But the priest after placing my request before the deity, he came back and said do not ask for Anil to return. Anil will be having a good future also,” Elizabeth said.
She also pointed out that what will happen when Anil comes home.
“Here too, my prayers got answered as when Anil came home, my husband said we will not discuss politics at home and there has be no issues at all. I am very happy that my prayers got answered,” said Elizabeth in her 19 minutes of speech.

Guwahati: The historic Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Assam’s Dhubri district observed the 554th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev's birth on Monday, officials said.  As they commemorated the birth anniversary of the first Sikh guru, devoted Sikhs assembled in great numbers and offered traditional prayers.  Three days have been dedicated to the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti at the historic gurudwara, where kirtan path and akhand path are being held.  In addition, those who attend the Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations are given free meals at the community kitchen.  “We are commemorating in the Gurudwara Sri Tegh Bahadur Sahab the 554th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji's birth. The Akhand Path ended on Sunday at 10 am, having started two days before,” Gurbindar Singh, the gurudwara's manager said.  “The akhand path was held this morning at 11 a.m. Kirtans are now held constantly. The community kitchen also continues without interruption. Kirtan will conclude at 1pm. The langar will then go until five o'clock in the evening,” he added.  Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Dhubri town is on the bank of the Brahmaputra River in Assam. The first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Dev, visited the place in 1505 AD and met Srimanta Sankardeva on his way when he traveled from Dhaka to Assam.  Later, the 9th Guru Teg Bahadur also visited the place and established the Gurdwara in the 17th century.  Former Indian President Gyani Zail Singh visited the Gurdwara in 1983.

New Delhi [India]: The counting of votes in elections to the 40-member Mizoram assembly began Monday morning. The counting process began at 8 am and postal ballots will be counted for the first half of an hour, a senior official with the election commission said.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram, the counting will be conducted in 13 centres across the state and 40 counting halls. There will be 399 EVM tables and 56 postal ballot tables in 40 counting halls across the state. Nearly 4000 personnel will be involved in the counting of votes, as per the state election commission. After a saffron wave swept the Hindi heartland, taking the BJP to decisive mandates in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, and the Congress wrested Telangana from the BRS, all eyes have now shifted to the Northeast as Mizoram is to reveal its mandate on Monday.  The counting in the tiny Northeast state, which was initially scheduled for December 3, Sunday, along with four other states, was pushed back by a day following representations to the Election Commission by civil society, citing an important day in the religious calendar in the Christian-majority state. Considering appeals by political parties and civil society organisations, citing the special significance of Sunday for the people of Mizoram, the Election Commission on November 29 officially announced the deferment of the counting of votes in the state to Monday. Four major contenders are in fray in the northeastern state, which voted to elect its 40-member legislative assembly on November 7. These include the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), the Congress and the BJP. Earlier, on Sunday, the chief ministerial face of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and party candidate of Serchhip constituency, Lalduhoma, voiced confidence in the party forming a 'stable' government in the state.  He said the exit poll predictions, released on Thursday, were based on scientific methodology and were 'most reliable'. "All the exit poll results point towards us. We do not need any other political party," he said. Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Nazuk Kumar said on Sunday that all arrangements and preparations for the counting of votes in Mizoram on December 4 have been completed. According to exit-poll projections, the two regional players--MNF and ZPM--are in the race to form government in Mizoram, with most predictions stating that the ruling party, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, has an advantage in the Northeast state, while there is also a possibility of a hung assembly. The elections to the 40-member Mizoram assembly were held on November 7, with the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) facing a stout challenge from the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), Congress, and the BJP.  Following the deferment of the counting of votes for Mizoram, the state's Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas said the Election Commission agreed to the request of social organisations and political parties as "Sunday was devoted to church duties and prayers". Meanwhile, a day ahead of the counting of votes for the Mizoram Assembly Elections, Chief Minister Zoramthanga offered prayers at the Zarkawt Presbyterian Church. The chief ministerial face of ZPM, Lalduhoma, also attended special prayers at a church in the Aizawl district on Sunday.
