Washington: According to a study, the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in healthcare, as well as voice-control smart devices like Alexa, Siri, and Google Home, may be harmful to children's social and emotional development.
The findings of the study were published online in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.
These devices might have long-term effects by impeding children's critical thinking, capacity for empathy and compassion, and their learning skills, says Anmol Arora of the University of Cambridge.
While voice-control devices may act as 'friends' and help to improve children's reading and communication skills, their advanced AI and 'human' sounding voices have prompted concerns about the potential long-term effects on children's brains at a crucial stage of development.
There are three broad areas of concern, explains the author. These comprise inappropriate responses; impeding social development; and hindering learning.
He cites some well publicised examples of inappropriate responses, including a device suggesting that a 10-year old should try touching a live plug with a coin.
"It is difficult to enforce robust parental controls on such devices without severely affecting their functionality," he suggests, adding that privacy issues have also arisen in respect of the recording of private conversations.
These devices can't teach children how to behave politely, because there's no expectation of a "please" or "thank you", and no need to consider the tone of voice, he points out. "The lack of ability to engage in non-verbal communication makes use of the devices a poor method of learning social interaction," he writes. "While in normal human interactions, a child would usually receive constructive feedback if they were to behave inappropriately, this is beyond the scope of a smart device."
Preliminary research on the use of voice assistants as social companions for lonely adults is encouraging. But it's not at all clear if this also applies to children, he notes.
"This is particularly important at a time when children might already have had social development impaired as a result of COVID-19 restrictions and when [they] might have been spending more time isolated with smart devices at home," he emphasises.
Devices are designed to search for requested information and provide a concise, specific answer, but this may hinder traditional processes by which children learn and absorb information, the author suggests.
When children ask adults questions, the adult can request contextual information, explain the limitations of their knowledge and probe the child's reasoning--a process that these devices can't replicate, he says.
Searching for information is also an important learning experience, which teaches critical thinking and logical reasoning, he explains.
"The rise of voice devices has provided great benefit to the population. Their abilities to provide information rapidly, assist with daily activities, and act as a social companion to lonely adults are both important and useful, the author acknowledges. "However, urgent research is required into the long-term consequences for children interacting with such devices," he insists. "Interacting with the devices at a crucial stage in social and emotional development might have long-term consequences on empathy, compassion, and critical thinking," he concludes. —ANI

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines Special Education as Specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability.
The second definition is more applicable in the U.S.A., the first one is a universal one because not everywhere facilities for special education are offered free of cost.
To elaborate and understand in detail: Special education is the education which meets the need of those children who are different from average children either mentally, physically and or socially. The children may suffer from emotional disturbance, mental retardation, deafness, dumbness, blindness and any other ailments which hamper the intellect growth of the individual. The teaching methods in special education schools also differ from standard schools and are more individual-oriented to adapt to the individual’s needs. Depending upon the condition of the individual, education policies and educational laws, the students may or may not be admitted to a standard academic school. There are separate schools or separate classrooms for students with special needs but some students with mild impairments are allowed in a regular school or classrooms for a limited or full period of time. As the students require more care and attention, special education is also referred to as ‘Special Needs Education’ or ‘Exceptional Children Education’. Just, like a standard school, special school teachers receive specialised education training from educational institutes skilled in this area. Special education schools have certain norms and infrastructure which facilitates the development of children with special needs. But all this wasn’t available earlier, there were very few schools and people were largely unaware of them. Nobody knew how to take care of them. That brings us to the origins of special education.

Special education was not prevalent before mid-1500’s. People with disabilities were looked down upon. There was a certain amount of acceptance towards the physically handicapped but those with mental disabilities were largely avoided or considered unwanted. Between 27 BC-AD 476/1453, there were certain people who took care of handicapped and disabled people. Whether they were educated and returned to normalcy is unknown? During 5th and 15th Century (Middle Ages) the church provided care for the same but the modern methodology of special education was still amiss. The development of advanced special education is mentioned below:

Mid 1500’s
Pedro Ponce de León, a Spanish Benedictine Monk was able to teach deaf children to speak, read and write Spanish. He had opened a school at San Salvador Monastery in Madrid for such individuals.

Juan Pablo Bonet, a Spanish Priest developed the use of sign language to teach speech to the deaf. His system of signs and manual alphabet were depicted in his book titled Reducción de las Letras y arte para enseñar a hablar a los mudos in Madrid. It means ‘Summary of the letters and the art of teaching speech to the mute’. It was published in 1620. Bonet's system influenced American Sign Language, French Sign Language, Spanish Sign Language and others.

<h3>During 1640 and 1653.</h3>

John Bulwer, an English physician and philosopher wrote five works exploring the Body and human communication, particularly by the gesture. In his book ‘Chirologia: or the natural language of the hand (1644)’, he depicts ‘Hand Gestures’ for communication. He also proposed the education of deaf people through an academy mentioned in his works ‘Philocophus’ and ‘The Dumbe mans academia.’

Charles-Michel, abbé de l’Epée, a French Philanthropic Educator established ‘The Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles’ in Paris during the 1760’s. It was a free public school for the deaf. He also developed the natural sign language in French.

Thomas Braidwood, a Scottish Writing Instructor established 'Braidwood's Academy for the Deaf and Dumb' in 1760 at Edinburgh. It was the first school for the Deaf in Britain.

<h3>During 1770’s</h3>

Samuel Heinicke, a German Advocate and Teacher established the first German public school for the education of the deaf in 1778 at Leipzig. He promoted the oral method (phonetic method) of teaching and reading.

Valentin Haüy, a French Professor founded the first school for the blind in 1784. It was named as ‘Royal Institution for the Young Blind’ in Paris (now the National Institute for the Young Blind, INJA -Institution Nationale des Jeunes Aveugles.

Roch-Ambroise Cucurron Sicard, a French Abbot and Instructor of the deaf, developed the manual system, or silent method, of teaching people with hearing impairments. His works include - Eléments de grammaire générale (1799), Cours d'instruction d'un sourd-muet de naissance (1800) and Traité des signes pour l'instruction des sourds-muets (1808).

<h3>During 1800’s</h3>

Jean Marc Gaspard Itard, a French Physician made first attempt towards the instruction of mentally retarded children on scientific basis. In his book – Reports on the Savage of Aveyron (Rapports sur le sauvage de l’Aveyron -1807), he explained these attempted methods to train and educate an unsocialized 11-year-old boy who had been found in a forest in Aveyron, south of Paris. His other work includes Treatise on the Maladies of the Ear and of Hearing (Traité des maladies de l’oreille et de l’audition) which advocated the combination of sign and oral communication in the education of persons with hearing impairments.

Friedrich Moritz Hill, a German Deaf and Dumb Teacher developed the German System of teaching deaf and dumb during the mid-1800’s. His work includes ‘Teaching guide for deaf and dumb children of clergymen and teachers’ (1840), ‘The clergy and teachers in the service of the deaf’(1882) and ‘Full instructions for teaching deaf-mute children’ (1840).

Édouard Séguin, a French Physician and Educationist established the first private school in Paris around 1840. It was meant for the education of the mentally handicapped. In 1846, he published The Moral Treatment, Hygiene, and Education of Idiots and Other Backward Children (Traitement Moral, Hygiène, et Education des Idiots). This work is considered to be the earliest systematic textbook dealing with the special needs of children with mental disabilities.

<h3>During 1900’s</h3>

Maria Montessori, an Italian Physician and Educator developed effective teaching methods. Her methodology was named the Montessori Method. She opened ‘Casa dei Bambini’ (Children's House) on January 6, 1907. She taught normal children here and the success of Casa soon spread. Montessori education became international spreading all over the globe.

In 1975, USA passes an act - The Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA). It is also known as P.L. 94-142. In modern times this law is known as ‘Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)’.

In the UK, during 1978, The Warnock Report and subsequently, the 1981 Education Act, radically changed the conceptualisation of special educational needs. It introduced the idea of special educational needs (SEN), “statements” of SEN, and an “integrative” - which later became known as “inclusive” - approach, based on common educational goals for all children regardless of their abilities or disabilities: namely independence, enjoyment, and understanding.
By the end of 1900’s, developed nations had created facilities for special education.

<h2>In 2001</h2>
The USA passes an act ‘No Child Left Behind’ according to which all students, including students with disabilities, will have to be to be proficient in math and reading by the year 2014.

<h3>In 2004</h3>
IDEA was reauthorized. There were several changes like - call for more accountability at the state and local levels. School districts were told to provide adequate instruction and intervention for students.
Today, there are many special education institutes throughout the world. Some of the countries which have special education institutes are – Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and many more.

Every educational institute has a philosophy towards achieving their objectives, so do the special education institutes. This philosophy forms the basis of course curriculum and requires the provision of providing a secure, caring and stimulating environment which stimulates emotional, intellectual, physical and social growth. Below are mentioned some of the essential philosophies that any special education institution should consider.

Each individual is unique, sociological and psychological techniques need to be varied to get the best out of them. At the same time, certain principles for instruction are important and universally applicable to most learning situations in the field of special education.
Varied individuals will have specific abilities and achievement levels. They will have individual goals apart from academic ones and teachers need to understand that the individual goals are also important. Teachers need to gauge both the goals and help in honing them and not ignore the individual ones.
The same opportunity for education, regardless of the state of disability.
Evaluate the student abilities and disabilities on a non-discriminate basis, keeping in mind the unique individual circumstance.
The needs of the special students can change overnight. It is important to understand and modify the education process in tandem with the possible fluctuating needs of each and every student. 
Encourage social interaction between all students and develop teaching methods suited to such an environment.
Techniques and strategies may not show instantaneous results. Some will require modifications and refinements over a period of time to show results.
To provide, not only provide formal education to the students but also develop their intellectual abilities by improving their social, emotional and behavioural skills.
To remain motivated and passionate towards the welfare of special students through education, a strong mind, body and any tool which enhances the abilities.
Be educated and informed to utilize all tools available to create the best possible learning environment for each child and be motivated and passionate so that the teaching is meaningful, flexible and in tune with the student's educational needs.
Share your evaluations, insights and observations with parents, educators, special education teachers and other professionals involved in the field to facilitate a cooperative and beneficial learning environment.
Protect the confidentiality rights of special education students. Be respectful of their emotional needs and of their privacy.
To encourage and foster parental involvement by communicating them of the student’s performance, achievements, illness and whenever a disability requires individualized education.

Washington: According to a recent UTHealth Houston study, children and teenagers who volunteer tend to flourish both mentally and physically. The study, led by Kevin Lanza, PhD, assistant professor of epidemiology, human genetics, and environmental sciences at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, was published recently in JAMA Network Open. Overall, the research team found that youths who had volunteered in the past year were in better physical health, had a more positive outlook on life, and were less likely to have anxiety, depression, or behavioral problems compared to their peers who did not volunteer. "These study results bring optimism that youth volunteering could be a win-win, where youth are serving society to their own benefit," said Lanza, who is based in Austin, adding, "Further, youths may be joined by household members and others while volunteering, strengthening social bonds while building community." The positive effects of volunteering on the health and well-being of adult volunteers is well-established, and two past studies with small sample sizes have shown that teen volunteers may be in better health, and more engaged at school, than their peers. However, Lanza said the effect of volunteering on youths remained largely unknown, inspiring him to launch the study. Lanza's team analyzed parent-reported data from a long-running national survey tracking the health and well-being of U.S. children and teenagers, focusing on nearly 52,000 children and teens ages 6 to 17 who were surveyed from 2019-2020. Of those respondents, one-third of children and just over half of teens had done volunteer work in the past year. Parents whose kids volunteered were 33% more likely to say their child was in "very good" to "excellent" health compared to parents whose kids did not volunteer. Those parents were also between 18% and 35% less likely to say their child had battled depression or anxiety, or had behavioral problems, in the past year. Moreover, children and teens who did volunteer work were 66% more likely to be "flourishing" - defined based on how parents answered questions about their kids' curiosity, willingness to complete tasks, and ability to stay calm when faced with challenges. One limitation of the study is potential response bias from parent-reported data. Furthermore, researchers noted, the study results do not answer the question of whether kids who were already healthy and flourishing were more likely to volunteer. Lanza hopes to explore the cause-and-effect relationship of volunteering on kids' health and well-being more in the future. "There is a wealth of volunteering options for youth in different settings - parks, schools, hospitals - and with different purposes, such as environmental conservation or health promotion," he said, adding, "Volunteer experiences may help shape values and interests in youth that track into adulthood." —ANI

Sydney (Australia): According to current research, even people with a high genetic risk of developing type 2 diabetes can minimise their risk by remaining active. The University of Sydney-led study discovered a robust correlation between higher levels of overall physical activity, mainly moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity and a lower risk of type 2 diabetes. The findings were published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. The researchers say the study demonstrates higher levels of physical activity should be promoted as a major strategy for type 2 diabetes prevention, which affects millions of Australians. The study involved 59,325 adults from the UK Biobank, who wore accelerometers (activity trackers worn on their wrist) at the start of the study and were then followed for up to seven years to track health outcomes. The UK Biobank is a large-scale biomedical database and research resource containing anonymised genetic, lifestyle and health information from half a million UK participants. This included genetic markers associated with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. People with a high genetic risk score had 2.4 times the risk of developing type 2 diabetes when compared with those with a low genetic risk score. The study showed more than an hour of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity per day was associated with a 74 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes when compared with participants who did less than 5 minutes of physical activity. This was even when other factors, including genetic risk, were accounted for. Another compelling finding was that participants with a high genetic risk, but who were in the most physically active category, actually had a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes when compared with those with a low genetic risk but in the least active category. Senior author Associate Professor Melody Ding from the Charles Perkins Centre and the Faculty of Medicine and Health says although the role of genetics and physical activity in the onset of type 2 diabetes is well established, until now most data was self-reported and there was little evidence whether the genetic risk could be counteracted by physical activity. "We are unable to control our genetic risk and family history, but this finding provides promising and positive news that through an active lifestyle, one can 'fight off' much of the excessive risk for type 2 diabetes." Associate Professor Ding says moderate-intensity physical activity describes movements that get you sweating and slightly out of breath, such as brisk walking and general gardening. Examples of vigorous-intensity physical activity include running, aerobic dancing, cycling uphill or at a fast pace and heavy gardening such as digging - all activities that make you out of breath or cause you to breathe heavily. Study to help inform public health guidelines Diabetes is a global public health concern. In 2021, there were 537 million adults living with diabetes worldwide. Almost 1.2 million Australians were recorded as living with type 2 diabetes in 2020. The findings also hold a strong personal meaning for Associate Professor Ding, whose father was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his sixties. "My dad's side of the family has a history of type 2 diabetes, so the result of the study is extremely heartening for my family and myself. As an already active person, I now have extra motivation to keep this active lifestyle," says Associate Professor Ding. "Our hope is that this study will inform public health and clinical guidelines so that it can help chronic disease prevention for health professionals, organisations and the public." "I am so delighted to share our research results with a broad audience to let people know that physical activity is health-enhancing, especially for people with high genetic risk. New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has denied bail to an accused who allegedly conspired with a fellow doctor to carry out an acid attack on a 30-year-old senior resident doctor. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed the gravity of acid attack cases, describing them as crimes marked by extreme brutality and devastating consequences that send shockwaves through communities.
The co-accused, who had proposed marriage to the victim, sought revenge after his advances were rejected.
The court said that the life-altering impact of acid attacks, causes not only severe physical pain but also emotional scars that may never heal.
It stressed that in cases like these, where a heinous crime such as an acid attack disfigures a person’s life, justice must take a central role in the court’s decision-making process.
“A heinous crime such as acid attack on a woman, disfiguring her for life, in broad daylight in a thickly populated area due to a love proposition repelled by the victim, can evoke strong emotions in the society in addition to inflicting grave psychological trauma to the victim. It is in such situations and cases that the court’s role as a guardian of justice needs to come to the fore,” the court said.
The prosecution argued that the applicant accused not only hired juveniles to carry out the attack but also actively participated in planning and executing the crime.
The accused, who had been in judicial custody for the past nine years, sought bail, arguing that the trial would take some time to conclude.
In response, Justice Sharma noted the complexity of the case, particularly the need to weigh the heinousness of the offence against the accused’s extended incarceration.
The court affirmed its commitment to due process, fairness, and justice, even when dealing with the most abhorrent crimes.
It said that while the accused might lament their long incarceration during the trial, the court cannot ignore the unseen psychological pain and lasting trauma suffered by the victim.
“The courts have to remain steadfast in its commitment to following due process of law, fairness of procedure and justice, and upholding individual fundamental rights, even when dealing with the most abhorrent offences,” the court said.
“This court cannot but shudder at the thought of her emotions, whenever she looks into the mirror and is reminded not only of the incident and the pain she has gone through but also the face she has lost forever which she was born with, and the ability to see the world with two beautiful eyes given by the God one of which has been snatched due to the incident in question,” the court said.
The court also expressed displeasure at the nine-year duration of the trial and called for the examination of the remaining witnesses on a day-to-day basis, with the aim of concluding the trial within four months.
The court stressed the importance of ensuring the prompt appearance of witnesses to expedite justice in this case.
“The concerned DCP will ensure that the witnesses appear before the court on the day they are summoned, which is essential since it is an old case and some of the witnesses may have been transferred from one police station to another and some may have retired,” the court said.&nbsp;

At his show at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, he told fans before he launched into a rendition of ‘Hesitate’: “Thank you everyone for the love and support to me and my family – I love you guys.”
He walked around the stage and looked down at the ground while the crowd cheered him on, and video from one cinematographer showed him in close-up singing the lyrics to the song while a single tear rolled from his eye. Hindi has been a democratic language. It has honoured different Indian languages and dialects as well as many global languages and adopted their vocabularies, sentences and grammar rules.”
He said the Hindi language played an unprecedented role in uniting the country during the difficult days of Independence movement, adding it instilled a feeling of unity in a country divided into many languages and dialects.
“Hindi, as a language of communication, played an important role in carrying forward the freedom struggle from East to West and North to South in the country,” Shah added.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on X, “My best wishes on Hindi Diwas. Apart from being a medium to strengthen emotional unity and mutual harmony, Hindi is also a popular communication language.
“The popularity of Hindi has increased not only in India but in many countries of the world,” he said.
BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda also took to X and wrote, “Hearty greetings to all on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. Let us take a pledge for the progress of all the languages.”

Jalaun: A suicide ‘prank’ by a 13-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun turned real when he slipped and the noose tightened around his neck, causing death. His visually challenged mother and three younger siblings made futile attempts to rescue the victim.
The incident took place in Jalaun on Sunday and his mother Sangita, 50, said: “Had God not taken my sight away, I would have saved my child. He died in front of me and I could not do anything.”
The tragedy unfolded while Jas, a Class 5 student, was playing with siblings Yash, 9, Mehak, 7, and Astha, 5, at their home in Kanshi Ram Colony. Sangita had dozed off in another room while her husband Khem Chandra, 54, was out at work in the local grain market.
While playing with his siblings, Jas attempted the mock suicide and the stool he was standing on slid away.
Yash, Mehak, and Astha thought for a while that Jas was still in the act until they saw blood oozing out of his mouth and nose, and his body hung motionless from the rope that had been tied to a window bar, police said.
The children raised the alarm and began screaming, jolting Sangita out of her nap. She rushed to save him but her blindness proved an insurmountable obstacle. She searched desperately for a knife or a sickle to cut the noose but could not find one.
By the time Sangita alerted her neighbours, Jas had died.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
According to Mohammad Arif, in charge of the local Orai police outpost who spoke to the family’s neighbours and others, Jas helped out at home as the eldest child. “When his father was away at work, Jas used to do most of the household chores after coming back from school as his mother could not see,” the officer said.
The family was initially reluctant to allow a post-mortem but agreed after persuasion. “The child’s body has been handed over to the parents after autopsy,” Arif said.

Hangzhou [China]: Indian rower Babu Lal Yadav, who clinched a bronze medal in the ongoing Asian Games on Sunday, said he had goosebumps after seeing the Indian flag going up on the podium in Hangzhou, China.  Lekh Ram and Babu Lal Yadav clinched India's third and second rowing medal today to secure a podium finish.
Babu Lal, who started rowing just two years ago, relived the range of emotions that he went through while standing on the podium to receive his medal.  "I had goosebumps watching the Tricolour go up slowly on the podium," Babu Lal told ANI.  He credited the Indian army as well as others for their success. "We are very happy to have won this medal for the country. The credit for our success goes to the Indian army, our coaches, family members, and the people of our country," Babu Lal added.  Lekh Ram also thanked his coaches after winning the medal.  
"I have no words to express my happiness. Our coaches put us through long hours of practice. The idea was to bring all that we had practised into the main event. I would like to attribute our success to the Indian army, our coaches, and family members," Leh Ram told ANI.  The pair wasn't the only team to clinch a medal for India in rowing as earlier in the day, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh won India's second silver medal in the Asian Games after finishing marginally behind China in the final of the men's rowing lightweight double sculls.  The Indians, who finished 11th in the Tokyo Olympics, upset the odds to seal their place on the podium. The Army men clocked 6:28:18s in Men's Lightweight Doubles Scull Final A to clinch India's second silver medal of the day.  Chinese pair of Fan Junjie and Sun Man secured the top spot, clocking 6:23.16s. With this, China have already assured themselves a second gold in the Asian Games. Uzbekistan settled for a bronze medal, clocking 6:33.42s.  
Throughout the contest, the Indian pair gave the hosts a run for their money as they were breathing down their necks for the entire time.  With 500m to go, China managed to open up a bigger gap by building a lead of 2.73 seconds. Uzbekistan maintained their position in third.

Tirupati: Unable to cope with India's defeat against Australia in the World Cup final on Sunday, a hardcore fan of team India died after suffering a heart attack.  The tragic incident occurred in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district.  Jyothi Kumar Yadav (32), a software engineer, suffered cardiac arrest after watching India lose the final to Australia.  He was reportedly moved after watching Indian captain Rohit Sharma in tears.  According to family members, he collapsed while watching the television at his house in Durgasamudram village in Tirupati rural mandal.  He was rushed to Ruia hospital in Tirupati, where doctors declared him dead.  Son of a retired employee of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, Yadav was going to marry soon.  Meanwhile, Tirupati Urban Development Authority chairman Mohith Reddy visited Yadav's house on Monday and condoled his death.

Mumbai: Director Prashanth Neel, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film ‘Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire’, has shared that the film involves action driven by emotions and presents the story of two childhood friends.  The first song from the film, titled ‘Sooraj Hi Chhahon Banke’ is set to be unveiled on Wednesday, and is based on the friendship angle.  Sharing about the film and the friendship angle, Prashanth said: “ ‘Salaar’ is a completely different world; the action in the film is massive and there are strong characters, but above all, it has an emotional story -- the story of two friends and their journey into the world of the Khansaar. I wanted to make an action-packed drama film with a story driven by emotions and friendship, and Salaar has given me that opportunity.”  ‘Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire’ shows the brotherly bond of two characters played by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran.  Prashanth further mentioned, “We wanted to create Khansaar of Salaar as one of the most violent worlds known to humans, but something that is strongly driven by emotions. I firmly believe that motives are very important in the development of characters in a film like Salaar to make them connect with the audience. Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran have played the character amazingly where you can feel the emotions of two friends and their mutual on-screen bond. In the film, each action sequence comes with an emotion, and we have tried to offer a perfect blend of action and emotion that will appeal to a large section of the audience.”  Produced by Hombale Films, ‘Salaar: Part 1: Ceasefire’ is set to arrive in theatres on December 22 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Prashanth Neel: 'Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire' is action driven emotional story of two friends

Mumbai: While his equation with Shah Rukh Khan has matured with time, actor Sunny Deol says he has developed an emotional connection with Salman Khan and is happy to collaborate with Aamir Khan on an upcoming project.
As per media reports, Sunny had a bad experience while working on the 1993 film Darr, which had Shah Rukh as an antagonist. Directed by Yash Chopra and also starring Juhi Chawla, the movie turned 30 on Sunday.  Sunny and Shah Rukh were photographed posing together and embracing each other at the Gadar 2 success bash in September.  "I'm so thankful to him (Shah Rukh). I remember speaking to him and he was in Dubai for the promotions (of Jawan). I thought he wouldn't come but he came straight from there. He was there for a little while. I didn't get a chance to meet or speak to him after that (party) but whenever I do it would be beautiful."
"We as actors, have certain things (that happen) over a period of time. When we are younger we are a bit different and as time goes by we start maturing and we start understanding what life is in reality. All of us have changed quite a lot. That's the beautiful thing about it. Time is a healer of everything," the 66-year-old actor told PTI in an interview here.  About Salman, Sunny said he recently met his Jeet co-star, who also shares a close bond with his brother Bobby Deol and father Dharmendra.  "We spent nearly two-three hours in Goa. We were laughing and joking about just in general, we were happy with how things are. We also spoke about doing something together. He (Salman) was very happy. I remember he had called me once and how emotional he was and he said how much he loves me. That's the kind of connection we have," he added.  Sunny will next start working on Lahore, 1947, produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The Partition drama will be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.  "Aamir was there at the party too and he said, 'I want to meet you tomorrow'. Then we got down to discussing a film (Lahore, 1947). It was a really emotional and beautiful moment. God has been great," he said.  While Sunny and Aamir haven't co-starred in a film yet, they have worked with Santoshi in separate projects.  "We will be starting it (shoot) very shortly. We are trying to put up a set and then we will take it off. That's a film that Raj and I were going everywhere to do but it was not happening. This is what happens when something works (Gadar 2) then the doors open. That's the reality of life, we can't change that," he added.  According to Sunny, it was his childhood friend Karim's idea that he should host a party for Gadar 2 success.  Besides Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir, celebrities including Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Sanon, Arjun Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, and Aditya Roy Kapoor attended the event.  Sunny expressed happiness about receiving all the love and appreciation from his colleagues for Gadar 2, the sequel to the 2001's film Gadar.  "There were a lot of positive vibes, I had called everyone from younger to senior people from the industry. I called everyone with whom I worked and even those with whom I hadn't worked. They all came with positive thoughts, good feelings and all the happiness. I could feel the vibe. It was very sweet... I remember telling Salman that 'You call me every time and I would never come (to the party) but you came (for my party)'. When there's genuine happiness, it feels good," he added.

Sydney [Australia]: Australian opener David Warner on Monday revealed that he was ready to walk away from Test cricket following the second Ashes Test at Lord's last year had he not scored any runs. Warner will bid farewell to the longest format of the game with the third Test against Pakistan at his home arena of Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
At the start of the tour to the UK ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final against India, Warner had made his intentions clear to retire from whites at his home stadium but also said that form would play a part. During that time, selectors had also named the squad for only the first two Ashes Tests initially, as per ESPNCricinfo. Ahead of the Pakistan Test, Warner talked about how the Lord's Test could have been his farewell had he felt that he was not contributing to the team.

"I said quite clearly in England before the World Test Championship, there was a lot of talk about me and my form, [and] I wanted to nip it in the bud early, I said my ideal preparation to finish would be Sydney. But I actually had Lord's penciled in as my last Test, especially if I did not go as well as I did as a partnership with Uzzie [Usman Khawaja] at the top of the order," said Warner as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.  In that match at Lord's which Australia won, Warner scored 66 and 25 in both innings. He had also made an important 43 in the first innings of the WTC final, setting the tone for centuries by Travis Head and Steve Smith. But the first Ashes Test was mixed, as he could score only nine and 36 at Edgbaston. In the first two Ashes Tests, Warner had three valuable half-century stands with Usman Khawaja and in the final Test at The Oval, he put on a 140-run stand with Khawaja. The big hundred came during the first Pakistan Test at Perth, scoring 164 and silencing all his critics. "Then from there it just followed on that we played some good innings together. I did not have that hundred [in England] that I always wanted but eluded me. But as a team and as a whole we did our bit, so to get this ending is awesome, but it is not about me, it is about us. We have won the series, but to win 3-0 and have a whitewash here at the SCG would be a great thing for the team," he added. 
Warner said that he never doubted his abilities but wanted to make the best decision in the team's interest. "If you are down 2-0, and you go into that third one, and you lose that, I do not think it is the right choice to make [to keep playing]. It is an easy exit. For me, a second [reason] was if I was failing and we had not won, then it would have been an easier decision," said Warner.  "I did not want to put the team or the selectors in a position where they had to think about, 'mate, it is time to push on'. It was more about me just going, 'I am content with that. I am happy with it, I have had a great career'. But if I could still do my best and bat well with Uzzie and put us into a good position...I could do that for the rest of the series," he added. The opener admitted that his emotions around his Test farewell have grown in recent weeks. "When I looked at Lord's as a potential finish, I did not really have many emotions because I was content. I might not have been scoring runs, but I still had the desire to play Test cricket. I love the game of cricket, it does not matter what format I am playing. But definitely, it has been emotional since Perth, since I have been back in Australia and knowing that I am playing [my final Test]," he said. "Getting that 160, putting us into a great position for the team, it hit home when people in the streets were coming up and saying, 'well done, we support you, we back you'. It really means a lot. The emotions probably started then," added the batter. On how he wants to be remembered as a Test player, Warner said as someone "who has given his all". "A boy from housing commission having a dream. I have not always fitted the mould, but I have been authentic and honest...and I think that shows you on the field in Test cricket, I have played the exact same way. I am even playing lap shots like I do in T20 cricket. I am still trying my best to get better even in this last Test. I am hungry to score runs," said Warner. "It is no different to any other game and I just want to leave behind that you can go out and play the way you want to play. You can play with freedom, you can play reverse sweeps like Joe Root if you want. You have got the ability to do that and you have got to trust and believe in yourself," he concluded.
