New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs to relax requisite minimum educational qualification from 10th class pass to eighth class for the recruitment of 400 candidates as constable (general duty) in CRPF from three districts of Chhattisgarh — Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma through recruitment rally. “Four hundred tribal youth from interior areas of three districts namely Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma of Chhattisgarh will get employment opportunities. Appropriate relaxation in physical standards for recruitment will also be given by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” a statement said.The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a statement, the cabinet said that apart from issuing advertisements in local newspapers and adopting all means for wider publicity of this rally in these interior areas of these three districts, CRPF would subsequently impart formal education during the probation period to these newly recruited trainees. The CRPF is one of Central Armed Police Forces, basically meant for duties like maintenance of law and order, tackling counter insurgency and maintaining internal security.In the instant case, CRPF proposes to recruit 400 native tribal youths as constables (general duty), from the relatively backward areas of Chhattisgarh.They will be confirmed in service only after acquiring the prescribed minimum educational qualification of standard 10th pass, thus formal education will be given to these recruits and CRPF would extend all possible support like providing study material, books and coaching assistance during their probation period. The probation period may be extended suitably, if required, to facilitate new recruits to acquire the prescribed education qualification.In order to facilitate them to take the 10th standard exam, these recruits will be registered with the National Institute of Open Schools recognized by the Central or State government. CRPF during 2016-2017 had raised one Bastariya Battalion by recruiting Scheduled Tribe candidates from four districts namely, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur and Sukma of Chhattisgarh. However, it could not yield optimum results as native youths from interior areas could not compete in the recruitment process due to non-fulfilling of requisite educational qualification of 10th pass.—IANS

Toronto: Parents who shout at their kids for their screen addiction have to first control their digital media consumption for relaxation as such people are more likely to engage in lower-quality parenting, a new study has revealed.&nbsp;
The researchers from University of Waterloo found that parents with higher levels of distress engage in more screen-based activities and are more likely to turn to devices for relaxation.&nbsp;
This consumption was correlated with negative parenting practices such as nagging and yelling.
They also found that negative parenting behaviours were more likely when technology interrupted family interactions.
The experiment didn’t focus on specific apps or websites that caregivers use but rather found that parents who spend time on screens were retreating from being present with their family, which is correlated with negative parenting practices.
“All members of the family matter when we try to understand families in a society saturated with technology,” said Jasmine Zhang, lead author of the study published in the journal Computers and Human Behaviour.
“It’s not just children who are often on devices. Parents use digital media for many reasons, and these behaviours can impact their children,” said Zhang.
On average, the study said parents spend three to four hours a day consuming digital media for relaxation.
However, not all media consumption was correlated with negative outcomes.
Maintaining social connections through digital channels was related to lower levels of anxiety and depression and higher levels of positive parenting practices such as listening to their children’s ideas and speaking of the good their children do.
“When we study how parents use digital media, we need to consider caregivers’ motivations for using devices in addition to how much time they spend on them,” Zhang said.
The family media landscape continues to grow and become more prominent.
“Going forward, it’s important to consider the nuances of digital media as some behaviours are related to well-being, and others are related to distress,” said Dillon Browne, professor of psychology at Waterloo.
The researchers plan to build on these findings and hope that their work will aid in creating guidelines that will help caregivers manage their screen-based behaviours.&nbsp;

Nainital: Authorities have temporarily relaxed curfew in Banbhoolpura of Haldwani City, which was imposed following violence, that broke out on February 8 after an "illegal structure" was demolished as part of an anti-encroachment drive. "However, night curfew will continue from 8pm to 6am in Gaujajali, FSI, Godown area. The night curfew will continue in the rest of the areas under Banbhoolpura police station from 5pm to 6am," Nanital Police posted on X. The curfew was imposed and the administration issued shoot-at-sight orders after stone-pelting incidents, torching of vehicles and a mob surrounded the local police station following the anti-encroachment drive. Meanwhile, yesterday, Additional Director General (ADG), Administration, Amit Sinha, reached the site of the violence in Banbhoolpura and took stock of the newly established police post. During his visit, the ADG reviewed security arrangements in the area. The ADG discussed in detail the proposal regarding the prescribed standards required for the new police station and gave the officers concerned the necessary directions to improve the security arrangements. As many as 30 people have been arrested, in connection with the Haldwani violence. Houses of the father-son duo, Abdul Malik and Abdul Moeed, who were wanted in the Banbhoolpura violence, were on Friday attached by the authorities in Haldwani. During the action, police and administration teams including Harbans Singh Superintendant of Police Haldwani City, Sangeeta CO Lalkuan, Sachin Tehsildar Haldwani, DR Verma in-charge Inspector Lalkuan, Nandan Singh Rawat Police Station Head Kaladhungi were present at the spot. Earlier, the Haldwani Civil Court had issued orders to confiscate the property of nine miscreants, including Abdul Malik and his son, the alleged masterminds of the violence. The court has permitted the police to take action against all the accused under sections 82, and 83 of CrPC. On Tuesday, the civil court issued non-bailable warrants against all nine accused. The development came days after the Municipal Corporation in Haldwani issued a recovery notice of Rs 2.44 crore against the key accused Malik asking him to deposit the money to cover damage caused to government property during the violence. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had earlier said that there is no room for 'miscreants' in the state. Uttarakhand Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar also stressed that recent "violent" clashes were not "communal." The clashes and violence left five people dead and dozens injured. Several countrymade weapons and live rounds were recovered from those arrested, police said. The state government had asked the Centre for four additional companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed in the district.

Nagpur: Delighted by the Centre’s move to notify the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), nearly 2,000 Pakistani Hindus living in Nagpur are preparing to seek Indian citizenship.
The migrants from the neighbouring country are figuring out the nitty-gritty of filing online applications that will enable them to live in India without the hassle of seeking visa extensions and other paperwork.  Besides, some of their relatives who entered the country in recent years are seeking relaxation in the cut-off date to accommodate them.  The Centre Monday implemented the CAA, notifying the rules four years after the law was passed by Parliament to fast-track citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014.
Vinod Raheja from Ghotki town in Sindh province of Pakistan said he and seven of his family members crossed over to India through the Wagah-Attari border on a visit visa hours on December 31, 2014.  Raheja said they hadn’t even dreamt about the “life-changing” event that would unfold 10 years later, referring to CAA. He is among those who have already submitted their online applications for Indian citizenship.  A resident of Nagpur’s Jaripatka locality, which has a sizable population of Sindhis, Raheja said he was a cloth merchant in Pakistan when he came to India with his wife, two children, parents and two other relatives.  “We have been staying here on long-term visas. We are thrilled with the implementation of CAA as we will now become the citizens of India,” said Raheja, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for making CAA a reality.  Raheja, who works with a private company, has requested PM Modi to relax the cut-off date for people like his mother-in-law and her family who came to India six months after his entry.  “It will be a huge relief as they have to go through procedures like long-term visa and other paperwork,” he said.  Sagar Wadhva came with his family to India from Quetta in Pakistan’s Balochistan province in 2012, when he was in Class 9th.  The 27-year-old businessman from Nagpur said he is excited that India will now be his permanent home. His online application too has been submitted, said Wadhva.  Rajesh Jhambia, a local social worker who works for the rights of such migrants, told PTI that they have already received 100 applications for online submissions. “The applications will be filed by Sunday. Around 2,000 citizenship applications will be filed from Nagpur,” he said.  Like Raheja, Jambia also requested PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to consider the cases of such migrants who came to India after 2014.
