Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh (The Hawk): Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to establish "naya rivaj" (a new tradition) if the BJP is re-elected as the state's administration as he began his election campaign on Saturday.
He urged them to go door to door in this neighbourhood to deliver "my greetings" to the female voters, who always outnumbered the male voters because elections at this time are so important.
"The people of Himachal are committed to the BJP government's successful comeback. When this nation of soldiers and heroic mothers adopts a position, it only does so by demonstrating it "In his roughly 40-minute speech in this town in Mandi, the district of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Modi, who was wearing a Himachali cap, stated.
Party members and supporters welcomed Modi with a raucous welcome when he arrived; some were dressed in traditional attire. As the Prime Minister arrived, many women who were there on the road waved their hands in greeting.
The Prime Minister stated that this particular election in Himachal is unique. This time, each voter will have one vote, which will be cast on November 12 to determine how Himachal will evolve over the next 25 years.
Modi remarked in an effort to forge an emotional connection: "Sundernagar is a place I've been to countless times. I've also hiked inaccessible regions like Kangra, Siraj, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Chamba. How could anyone forget the roads here, with such a stunning BBMB lake of Sundernagar?"
The Prime Minister made fun of the state's main opposition Congress on the day the party unveiled its election platform, saying that the party's time in power had been likened to ruling former kingdoms.
"The Congress has a history of making misleading claims and promises regarding poll results. The nation has seen firsthand how the Congress has lied in the guise of waiving agricultural loans."
While arguing for a two-engine administration that has built new infrastructure for the state at every turn, Modi underlined that while the BJP was in power in Delhi and Himachal, work was progressing quickly.
But as soon as the Congress reconvenes, all progress stops.
Himachal Pradesh's significance in national politics has always been minimised by the Congress because they believed the state to be minor and only send three to four representatives to Parliament. These were the causes of Himachal's failure to achieve the pinnacles of growth.
The Prime Minister stated emphatically that growth in the state was possible because people had elected the BJP to power both at the Center and in the State, amid cries of "Modi-Modi" from the audience, which was primarily made up of women.
"Today, every household has access to gas cylinders thanks to the double-engine government. Everywhere there is electricity, and there are also roads and water sources."
Invoking religion, Modi declared that the BJP has decided to construct the Ram Temple. "Today, in Ayodhya, such a magnificent Ram temple is being constructed."
Modi paid respect to Shyam Saran Negi, 106, who was the nation's first voter when he cast his 34th ballot in the upcoming Assembly elections three days ago and died on Saturday in Kalpa, his hometown. He claimed he learned of Negi's passing while travelling from Delhi.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Releasing the inaugural episode of his newly launched podcast 'Speaking for India', Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday weighed in on what he claimed was the "destruction of the country under the BJP".  Launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre, the DMK chief said it has destroyed the sense of unity among Indians.&nbsp;
"We are living in times where each and every one of us has to speak up for India. The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to damage the basic structure of India and destroy the sense of unity that Indians have cherished and protected for so long," CM Stalin said in the inaugural podcast episode. Accusing the BJP of failing to fulfill the promises it made to the people ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the DMK chief added, "The Bharatiya Janata Party, which came to power in 2014, has failed to fulfill its pre-election promises, especially with regards to the people's welfare schemes." "There were many other yarns that were spun that just remained tall tales," he added. Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Stalin said the former lied to the people about the "Gujarat model" and would leave the country's highest office with "no significant model to call his own". "The Narendra Modi model, which came to power lying about the Gujarat Model, is now going to end with no significant model to call his own. It has become a rudderless model, and there are no tall claims about the once-famous Gujarat model either, especially after we listed the achievements of the Dravidian Model in Tamil Nadu with statistical proof," he said in his podcast. "This failure being on one hand, on the other it is disheartening to see how India’s strong public sector is being dismantled and destroyed by the Union government. It is clear that they are misusing their power to transfer the public sector to their corporate friends. The welfare of the entire country has been reduced to the welfare of a few. Government-owned Air India has now been privatised," the CM claimed further. "Airports and ports all over India are going into the hands of private organisations. While Prime Minister Modi’s promise to double the income of farmers is far from fulfilled, the living standards of the poor and downtrodden haven't become better either. They have taken religion as their weapon to hide all their shortcomings," he added.  Citing the ethnic violence in Manipur and clashes in Haryana's Nuh district, CM Stalin accused the BJP of stoking the "sectarian fire" saying, "In 2002, BJP sowed the seeds of violence and hatred in the state of Gujarat. In 2023, the sectarian fire ignited in the northeastern state of Manipur and saw the State burn. In Haryana, the fire of religious fanaticism is claiming the lives and property of innocent people. If we don't put an end to this right now, no one can save India and Indians. Whenever India's diversity, federalism, and democracy have been threatened, DMK has always been the vanguard, standing at the frontline." "During the 9-year BJP rule, there have been many harmful scams that have destroyed the States. GST has taken away the financial rights of the States. Tamil Nadu has lost its right to financial autonomy. Despite repeated requests by the states to extend the GST compensation for another two years, the Union government paid no heed to it. Tamil Nadu gives huge amounts of funds annually to the Union Government through taxes. At the same time, for every rupee paid as tax revenue to the Union Government, only 29 paise was returned to the State," the Tamil Nadu CM added.  On the Opposition alliance — Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) — the CM said, "Social justice, Secular politics, Socialism, Equity, Social harmony, State autonomy, Federalism, Unity in diversity- An India where these facets thrive in its full glory is the real India. An unparalleled India. We have formed the INDIA Alliance to restore such an India."  "It is this INDIA alliance that is going to save India. If we want to prevent the whole of India from becoming Manipur and Haryana, which, unfortunately, fell victim to BJP's communal politics, and hate-inciting policies, the INDIA alliance must win. Initial rounds of consultation meetings for the streamlining of the INDIA alliance have been held in Patna, Bangalore, and Mumbai," he said.  The inaugural podcast episode was released amid outrage over a statement by the DMK chief's son and minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, equating 'Sanatan Dharma' with "mosquitoes, Dengue, Malaria, fever, and Corona". Addressing a conference in Chennai, Udhayanidhi said, "Few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can't oppose Dengue, Mosquitoes, Malaria, or Corona, we have to eradicate this that's how we have to eradicate Sanatana. Rather opposing Sanatana it should be eradicated." "The word Sanatana, derived from Sanskrit, is against social justice and equality," he had claimed. The remarks drew saffron ire, with BJP national president JP Nadda on Sunday questioning if the statement of the Tamil Nadu minister was consistent with the position of the INDIA bloc vis-a-vis 'Sanatan Dharma'. Addressing a public rally in Chitrakoot, Nadda said, "Udhayanidhi Stalin says that 'Sanatan Dharma' should be abolished. He says just like dengue and malaria, 'Sanatan Dharma' should be abolished. They have no hesitation in making such statements. Does Udayanidhi's statement reflect the INDIA bloc's political strategy?"

Thiruvananthapuram: All arrangements are now in place at the Maldivian Consulate General’s office here in the heart of the state capital city to enable around 400 Maldivian nationals to cast their votes to elect their new President on September 9.  Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and seven other candidates have registered to run in the Maldives’ presidential elections.  Incidentally, Thiruvananthapuram is home to a good number of Maldivian nationals who arrive here for medical needs and hence the country decided to set up their Consulate General’s office here, a few years ago.
With the elections taking place on Saturday, Maldivian nationals in India settled in Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai have started to arrive in the state capital city to ensure they cast their votes to elect their new president.

Nagpur: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) has re-elected Dattatreya Hosabale as General Secretary of RSS for the term 2024-2027. Hosabale has held this position since 2021.
In a social media post on X, RSS stated, "The RSS Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) re-elected (2024-2027) Shri Dattatreya Hosabale ji for the post of Sarkaryavah. He has been discharging the responsibility of Sarkaryavah since 2021".
Addressing a press conference in Maharashtra's Nagpur, Dattatreya Hosabale said, "Sangh is getting into the hearts of the people and the impact of the Sangh is also increasing in the society. The way people welcomed us across the country during the 'Akshat Vitaran' before the Pran Pratistha of Ram Lalla shows the environment of the country". "Ram temple is the symbol of India's civilization and its culture. In response to queries regarding electoral bonds, Hosabale remarked, "RSS has not thought anything about this subject. It has not even been discussed here in Pratinidhi Sabah because Electoral bonds is an experiment, such experiments keep happening, there should be checks and balances." He emphasized the need for scrutiny and evaluation of such systems, pointing out that the concept of electoral bonds is not entirely new and has been implemented before.

China congratulated Vladimir Putin on Monday on winning Russia's presidential election and said the strategic relationship between the two countries will continue to strengthen.
Putin won a record post-Soviet landslide in Russia's election on Sunday, cementing his already tight grip on power in a victory he said showed Moscow had been right to stand up to the West and send its troops into Ukraine.  China President Xi Jinping sent a message to congratulate Putin on his re-election as president of Russia, Chinese state media reported.  "We firmly believe that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Putin, China-Russia relations will continue to move forward," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters when asked about the vote.
"China and Russia are each other's largest neighbours and comprehensive strategic partners in the new era."  China has strengthened its ties with Russia over the past few years, even as Western criticism of the war in Ukraine intensified.  The two countries declared a "no limits" partnership in February 2022 when Putin visited Beijing just days before he sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine, triggering the deadliest land war in Europe since World War Two.  It has been reported that China and Russia are preparing "several meetings" between Xi and Putin this year.  This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, and Lin said the two heads of state would continue to maintain close exchanges.

New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday rang up Russian President Vladimir Putin, congratulating him again on his re-election to the top office. During their telephonic conversation, both leaders agreed to intensify efforts towards expanding the India-Russia 'Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership'.
Sharing details of his conversation with the Russian President on X, PM Modi posted, "Spoke with President Putin and congratulated him on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation. We agreed to work together to further deepen and expand the India-Russia Special &amp; Privileged Strategic Partnership in the years ahead." Earlier, on Monday, PM Modi congratulated President Putin on his re-election via a post on X, saying he was looking forward to further strengthening the strategic partnership and people-to-people ties between India and Russia. "Warm congratulations to H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation," PM Modi posted from his X handle earlier.
"Look forward to working together to further strengthen the time-tested Special &amp; Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia in the years to come. @KremlinRussia," he added. Putin won the presidential elections on Sunday, receiving 87.17 per cent of the votes based on the result of processing 70 per cent of the electoral protocols, Russia-based TASS reported, citing data from the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation candidate Nikolai Kharitonov secured the second spot with 4.1 per cent of the votes while New People Party candidate Vladislav Davankov stood third with 4.8 per cent votes. The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) candidate, Leonid Slutsky, received a mere 3.15 per cent of the votes counted. Putin received more votes in comparison to the 2018 elections where he bagged 76.69 per cent of the total votes counted. The performance of the other candidates was lower than that of the previous competitors of Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018, according to reports. This was the first time, remote electronic voting was used for the presidential elections in Russia. Residents used the federal platform in 28 regions while people in Moscow cast votes on their own platform. The final turnout for online voting on the federal platform stood at 94 per cent, meaning that 4.4 million people cast their votes online. In Moscow, almost 3.7 million electronic ballots were issued, including voters who used special terminals at polling stations.. Putin has served four terms as Russian President. He was first elected President in 2000 and again in 2004, 2012, and 2018.

Istanbul: Turks began voting on Sunday in municipal elections focused on President Tayyip Erdogan's bid to reclaim control of Istanbul from rival Ekrem Imamoglu, who aims to reassert the opposition as a political force after bitter election defeats last year.
Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu dealt Erdogan and his AK Party the biggest electoral blow of two decades in power with his win in the 2019 vote. The president struck back in 2023 by securing re-election and a parliament majority with his nationalist allies.  Sunday's results could now reinforce Erdogan's control of NATO-member Turkey, or signal change in the major emerging economy's divided political landscape. An Imamoglu win is seen fuelling expectations of him becoming a future national leader.  Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. (0400 GMT) in eastern Turkey and elsewhere at 8 a.m., with more than 61 million people registered to vote. Voting ends at 5 p.m. and initial results are expected by 10 p.m. (1900 GMT).  "The AK Party has completed very important projects for the development of this country," said 28-year-old Faruk Baran after voting in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir. "(It) needs to be strong at the local level in order to continue its services."  In Istanbul, a city of 16 million people that drives Turkey's economy, polls suggest a tight race as Imamoglu faces a challenge from AKP candidate Murat Kurum, a former minister.  The results are likely to be shaped in part by economic woes driven by rampant inflation near 70%, and by Kurdish and Islamist voters weighing up the government's performance and their hopes for political change.  While the main prize for Erdogan is Istanbul, he also seeks to win back the capital Ankara. Both cities were won by the opposition in 2019 after being under the rule of his AKP and Islamist predecessors for the previous 25 years.  Erdogan's prospects have been helped by the collapse of the opposition alliance that he defeated last year, though Imamoglu still appeals to voters beyond his main opposition Republican People's Party.  Voters of the main pro-Kurdish party were crucial to Imamoglu's 2019 success. Their DEM party this time is fielding its own candidate in Istanbul, but many Kurds are expected to put aside party loyalty and vote for him again.
In the mainly Kurdish southeast, DEM is looking to reaffirm its strength after the state replaced pro-Kurdish party mayors with state-appointed 'trustees' following previous elections over alleged ties to militants.  "I wish for an end to the trustee system. This election is important for Turkey's future and for listening to us: Kurds are always decisive," said civil servant Elif Durgun, 32.  One factor working against Erdogan is a rise in support for the Islamist New Welfare Party due to its hardline stance against Israel over the Gaza conflict and dissatisfaction with the Islamist-rooted AKP's handling of the economy.
