Mumbai : Independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA-husband Ravi on Monday said they will approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to raise the issue of their alleged ill-treatment by Maharashtra authorities when the couple was in jail recently.Talking to reporters, Navneet Rana said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, “who back-stabbed the BJP”, should not talk and teach the Ranas about principles.The Ranas also dismissed the allegation that they committed contempt of court by speaking to the media.On May 4, a special court here while granting bail to the couple said the duo shall not commit a similar offence while on bail, and not address the press on any subject related to the case.The couple was arrested on April 23 by the Mumbai police after they announced that they would recite 'Hanuman Chalisa' outside Chief Minister Thackeray's private residence 'Matoshree' here, which had angered workers of the Shiv Sena, Thackeray's party, leading to tension.They walked out of jail on May 5 following which Navneet Rana was admitted to a private hospital here. Her lawyer had then said she had complaints of high blood pressure, body-ache and spondylitis.She was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.“We are going to Delhi today and meet all the leaders who respect women. I am going to meet the prime minister, (Union) home minister and Lok Sabha Speaker and tell them how we were ill-treated from a lockup to jail. I am going to complain about it," said Navneet Rana, who was flanked by her husband.Describing Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut as a “parrot”, Navneet Rana alleged that he had talked about "burying the couple".“We had filed a complaint against it here, but no action was taken. So, I am going to Delhi to raise the issue,” she said.The Ranas also categorically denied having committed any contempt of court by speaking to the press.“We did not talk about the offence, how it was registered against us, reciting 'Hanuman Chalisa' and Matoshree. We spoke about how I was ill-treated from the lockup to jail and how my health issues were avoided (ignored),” she said.The Lok Sabha member from Amravati wondered would be the fate of common people if a public representative like her could be treated “in such a manner” in Maharashtra.“So, it was important for me to speak up and the Constitution has given me the right as a public representative. The bodies have sent them for post-mortem examination, they said.Additional DCP (west) Brajesh Srivastava said that Shivam Tiwari (27), a vendor, and his wife Julie Tiwari (24) were sleeping inside their room while the deceased's father Deepak Kumar and brother Monu slept on the roof. Some tenants also live in the house, he said. On Thursday, one of the tenants found the door of Shivam's room open and on entering it, they found the bodies of the couple lying in a pool of blood, the ADCP added. Prima facie, it appears that the victims' throats were slit with a sharp edged weapon and looks like an insider job, claimed the officer. Badaun:&nbsp;Families of a 16-year-old girl and her 17-year-old boyfriend, who were found hanging from the same cloth inside a temple in Dataganj area of Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, are now blaming each other for the deaths, police said. The couple belonged to the same community and were missing since Friday evening. They were found allegedly hanging on Saturday. The boy's uncle alleged that his nephew was murdered by the girl's father, who was against their relationship.The girl's family has levelled similar charges against the boy's family. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), O.P. Singh, said, "Both families have not registered any complaint so far. Prima facie it appears to be a suicide case. However, we will wait for the autopsy report." The police have sent the bodies for autopsy to ascertain whether it is a murder or suicide case. The bodies were first seen by the girl's mother on Saturday. The shirt on the boy's body was missing. The police also recovered a beer bottle and a glass near the spot."The forensic team has done a thorough inspection of the spot and collected the evidence. If we suspect foul play in the autopsy report, appropriate action will be taken against the guilty," the SSP added. At least 29 cases of couple suicides have been reported in Bareilly region since 2019. There have been a dozen cases of honour killing since 2020 as well.—IANS

As Shubha Mehta’s husband Mahendra Goyal is already a judge in the Rajasthan High Court, it is for the first time when both husband and wife will both be judges. The total number of judges in the Rajasthan High Court will now increase from 25 to 27 with these appointments. However, 23 posts still remain vacant despite the new appointees.The order of the names of Kuldeep Mathur and Shubha Mehta was issued by the Central Government on Friday evening. Mathur has been made a judge from the lawyer quota and Shubha Mehta from the judicial service quota.—IANS

Jaipur: In a first for the Rajasthan High Court, a couple will be serving as its judges.Subha Mehta and Kuldeep Mathur were appointed judges to the high court by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on June 3.Shubha Mehta's husband Mahendra Goyal is already a judge in the high court and it is for the first time that both husband and wife are judges in the Rajasthan High Court.While Shubha Mehta is from the judicial service, Kuldeep Mathur has been a lawyer.Justice Mahendra Goyal, also a lawyer, was appointed in November 2019.With the appointment of Subha Mehta and Kuldeep Mathur, the number of judges in the high court will now increase from 25 to 27.However, 23 posts remain vacant as the sanctioned posts of judges is 50.In December 2020, Justice Murali Shankar Kuppuraju and his wife Justice Tamilselvi T Valayapalayamand were sworn in as judges of the Madras High Court on the same day.Before that, Justice Vivek Puri and Justice Archana Puri were sworn in as judges of the Punjab High Court on the same day in November 2019.—PTI

Kolkata: The bodies of a septuagenarian couple were on Monday evening found in their flat in South Kolkata's Bhowanipore, considered a high-security area because of its proximity to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence.The couple -- identified as businessman Ashok Shah and his wife Rashmita Shah was found dead in the flat on Harish Mukherjee Road, police said."Both the bodies bear several injuries. It seems jewellery is missing from the woman's body. Probably they were murdered when they resisted a burglary attempt. An investigation has been initiated," a senior police officer said.Sniffer dogs have been deployed to trace the accused.The couple, survived by three daughters, was staying with one daughter in the flat for several years and they were very active in investing in the share market, he said.City Mayor Firhad Hakim and local councillor Kajari Banerjee visited the spot.Hakim, after taking a look at the bodies, said that the injury on the abdomen of the man appeared to him to be caused by a "bullet".Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyal, who reached the spot, told reporters that a team of Kolkata Police, including those from the Homicide Department and Bhowanipore Police Station, jointly started an investigation into the murders.He, however, said the cause of death can be ascertained only after post-mortem examination."The family members will be able to tell if something has gone missing. Hope we crack the case soon," he said.Another senior officer told PTI that CCTV footage near the building will be scrutinised."There are instances of a scuffle inside the flat. Patna: In a shocking incident, a poor couple in Bihar’s Samastipur was forced to beg to collect Rs 50,000 as bribe for the mortuary staff of a government hospital to get the body of their dead son.The victim Mahesh Thakur and his wife begged for an entire day in the localities of Samastipur on Wednesday. An official of the post-mortem house had demanded Rs 50,000 from them to release the body. Samastipur civil surgeon Dr S.K. Chaudhary confirmed the incident. “We have learnt from the mediapersons about the demand of Rs 50,000 from a parent to release the body. Such an act is against humanity. We have initiated action against the alleged employee of the post-mortem house,” Chaudhary said.Mahesh Thakur is a native of Kasbe Ahar village under Tajpur police station. His mentally unstable son had gone missing since May 25 this year. On June 7, a body was recovered from an area under the Musrigharari police station. The police recovered the unidentified body and sent it for post-mortem. As the missing complaint was registered in the Tajpur police station, local police contacted Mahesh Thakur to identify the body. When he reached the post-mortem house, the employees initially refused to show the body. When they repeatedly requested the employees, they allowed them to identify the body in the mortuary. When Mahesh identified the body as that of his son, the employees present at the mortuary demanded Rs 50,000 to release it. When Mahesh’s pleadings did not move their hearts, he and his wife went to the nearby localities and begged for money. They were seen knocking on the doors to collect money. A video in this regard went viral on social media. After the viral video was reported to Chaudhary, he intervened and handed over the body to the hapless parents.—IANS

Ashoke Shah (56) and his wife Rashmita Shah (52) were found murdered in their home, which is a km distance from the CM residence, on June 6. City police commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal told the mediapersons on Thursday that the three arrested were hired by a close relative of the slain couple. The persons arrested have been identified as Subodh Kumar Singh, Jatin Mehta and Ratnakar Nath and all of them are residents of Liluah in Howrah district. Of the three, Singh has prior criminal records. “Ashoke Shah had lent some money to a close relative of his son-in-law. However, there was a recent dispute over that money as Shah was asking that close relative to return the borrowed money. So, we presume that the relative had been planning the murder for quite some time. That relative is currently absconding,” he said.The police commissioner also said that on the day of the murder that particular relative visited the residence of the slain couple. “The slain couple allowed him to enter and also offered drinking water. At that point of time heated discussions broke out between the two over the money lent. Precisely at the time, the assassins barged in and murdered the Shah couple,” the city police commissioner said. Ashoke Shah and his wife Rashmita Shah hailed from a Gujarati business family based out of Kolkata. The deceased couple’s daughter had been trying to contact them over the phone on Monday morning. After getting no response, she reached the residence in the evening and found the main door open. On entering the house, she found the bodies of her parents in a pool of blood. There were multiple sharp weapon and bullet injuries on their bodies.—IANS

She has developed breathing problems and her son keeps instigating the dog to attack her. Thus, the complainant filed a petition under the PWDV Act (Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005) to debar the respondent from the premises,” the plea mentioned.Additional Sessions Judge Arul Verma ordered the respondent (couple) to vacate the premises of the house situated at Sarita Vihar within a week.“Parents are stated to be suffering from various ailments, and the stress caused by the respondent son is only adding to their woes. Ironically, the bone of contention was also the dog ‘Luv’. The mother expressed that she suffers from respiratory ailments and probably the presence of the dog was unnerving for her. Some people are dog lovers while some may have an aversion, and even abhor their very presence. In this context, the intrusion of the dog in the prayer room or the kitchen may very well be disconcerting to the mother,” the judge said in the order.Further, the respondent (couple) is hereby restrained from entering or staying in the premises… subject of course to acquiescence to his ingress thereto by his parents, said the order. —IANS

A scuffle between the victims and the accused can be seen in the video.The entire incident was also captured on CCTV cameras of the toll plaza, which took place on Tuesday afternoon.In the complaint, Ritu Yadav, a resident of Raisina village of Gurugram told the police that she was going from Raisina to Maruti Kunj in her car with her husband and children.When she reached the toll plaza she stopped the car and asked the toll employees to remove the barrier."But instead of removing the barrier, the toll bouncer threatened to kill us while allowing the other vehicles to pass through unhindered," she alleged."My husband was driving and when I got down from the car and started removing the barrier, a toll bouncer came and started beating me up. A few minutes later, another bouncer came running and damaged our car by jumping on its bonnet. Later they started beating me and my husband and also misbehaved with us," the complainant told the police.Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Bhondsi police station."Based on the complainant, a case has been registered and police has conducted raids to nab the accused. Neighbours first spotted the body after noticing that the main gate of theit house was open, triggering tension in the industrial town in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district. Superintendent of Police (City) K Vijay Shankar said the couple's daughter was missing and a search was on to find her. Following the preliminary investigation, it seemed that the couple was murdered, he said. Family feud was suspected to be the cause behind the killing, he said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Shankar said, refusing to share other details citing the ongoing investigation.—PTI

Kolar: Two passengers were killed on the spot and 10 injured as a private bus turned turtle after the driver lost control of the vehicle in Kolar district of Karnataka on Wednesday.&nbsp;
According to police, the incident took place near Virupakshi Gate on the National Highway-75 near Mulbagal city. The deceased have been identified as Sharif and Vaimunneesa, a couple from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;
The condition of another person was said to be critical. The injured have been shifted to the hospital. The private bus was travelling from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru.
Police said that the bus is owned by the Vemuri-Kaveri travels company located in Nellore. The preliminary investigations have suggested negligent driving as the reason for the accident.
The driver and conductor ran away from the spot after the accident. 30 passengers were in the bus at the time of accident.&nbsp;

Shamli: The body of a 15-year-old girl has been recovered from her boyfriend’s relative house in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district after she went missing a day earlier, police said, adding the boy also died later.&nbsp;
According to police, the boy was lying unconscious close to the girl’s body and was still alive when found.&nbsp;
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, officials said. The incident took place in a village in Shamli where the girl used to live with her maternal grandfather’s family.
Station house officer (SHO), Karmveer Singh said: “The couple were in relationship with each other and both had left their houses on Wednesday night. The autopsy report has revealed that both the victim died due to consumption of poison. So far, police have not received complaints from both sides.” Meanwhile, SP Shamli, Abhishek said” “Both the victims belong to different communities. Our investigation is on and necessary action will be taken.”&nbsp;
