New Delhi: Charred human remains were found on Saturday on the second floor of the building in outer Delhi's&nbsp;Mundka&nbsp;area where a massive fire broke out a day back,&nbsp;Delhi Fire Service&nbsp;officials said.Twenty-seven people have died so far in the blaze that ripped through the four-storey building on Friday. The fire started from the first floor that houses the office of a CCTV camera and router manufacturing and assembling company, the police have said.The owners of the company, Harish Goel and his brother Varun Goel, who were detained earlier, have been arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sameer Sharma said.''Charred human remains were found on the second floor of the building during a search operation by our fire fighters. But we cannot say if it is the remains of one body or several bodies. Though the fire has been doused, the cooling and search operations still continues,'' said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Services.At present, two fire tenders are present at the spot, he said.According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sameer Sharma, the company owners -- Harish Goel and Vijay Goel who were detained have been arrested in connection with the incident.Identities of all but one of the 12 injured have been ascertained, an official said.According to a list released by the district magistrate of West Delhi, the injured are Staish (38), Pradeep (36), Ashu (22), Harjeet (23), Nitin (24), Avinash (29), Sandhya (22), Dhanvanti (21), Bimla (43), Ayesha (24) and Mamta (52).The injured were rescued and taken to a hospital, where they were given treatment, officials said. According to the police, a call about the fire was received at 4.45 pm on Friday following which they immediately reached the building location, near metro pillar number 545. Police officials broke the windows of the building to rescue people, they said, adding the injured are admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.During initial enquiry, the police found that the four-storey building was used for providing office spaces to companies.Over 50 employees of the company whose office was located on the first floor were rescued while 27 bodies have been found, they said.Some ambulances were also made available at the spot to provide immediate medical assistance to the rescued victims.—PTI

New Delhi: At least 24 women and five men are still reportedly missing in the massive building fire in New Delhi's Mundka that has claimed the lives of 27 people, a latest report revealed on Saturday.The report was provided by the civil defence team at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where the bodies from Friday's inferno were shifted, while relatives of the missing persons kept arriving to locate their loved ones.According to the report, only one injured person is currently being treated in the hospital.A total 14 injured persons were brought to the hospital following the incident.The rest 13 have been discharged, the report added.Manoj Thakur, who hails from Saharsa in Bihar, told IANS that he is trying to locate his wife Soni who was at the building at when the fire erupted.He said Soni had called him telling him about the fire, but her phone was switched off after that."We are moving from pillar to post to find her," Manoj told IANS.Relatives of the missing persons have also complained that not a single political representative from the area have come to the hospital for inquiry."We are still waiting that our MLA or MP will come to console us at the hospital as we have lost our family members in this unfortunate incident," one of the relatives said.Meanwhile, Delhi Police have started the process to identify the bodies in the hospital.A Delhi Police official said: "We are allowing two people per missing person to go inside the hospital to help in the process."—IANS

New Delhi: While the fire-tenders allegedly reached the Mundka fire incident site late, a crane driver proved a saviour for over 50 people, mostly women, by rescuing them while the building was engulfed in razing fire. Dayanand Tiwari was driving the crane along with the owner of the vehicle when he approached the ill-fated four-storey building caught in fire, with fire-tenders allegedly not in sight on May 13.The fire incident claimed 27 lives while a number of people are reported to be missing. Tiwari managed to save more than 50 lives with the help of the crane and the local bystanders. He, however, was saddened for not saving more people as the razing fire had spread quickly. “I was coming from Mundka Udyog Nagar when I saw the fire in the building. With the help of the crane, we rescued over 50 people, mostly women,” he said Tiwari, who had the crane owner and a helper on his aide, recalled the horrific incident and said that the fire tenders had reached the spot after one and a half hours. “Later, the fire turned huge and we could not rescue others. Our crane owner and helper were also present during the rescue operation. It was a very frightening sight,” he said.On Sunday, two forensic science teams reached the site of the fire mishap to assist the Delhi Police in the investigation of the Mundka fire incident. The charred remains of the victims have also been found at the site. The police have said that a forensic DNA examination would be carried out to identify the identities of the deceased. “Our two teams, including senior experts, are working at the spot currently. They will identify the remains, and lift samples for the purpose of identification. The experts from FSL will be assisting police in identifying and lifting samples from the spot which will be later handed over to the Investigating Officer,” said Deepa Verma, Director, Forensic Science Laboratory in an official statement.Meanwhile, SK Gupta, who is heading the forensic operations, said that body remains at fire-related crime scenes are very difficult to detect, collect and handle.“Burned exhibits like body tissues at the scene are often modified to a similar appearance, and bones, in particular, become discoloured, brittle, and highly fragmented,” Gupta said. Rajnish Singh, Assistant Public Relations Officer of the FSL, said that the impact of the fire is severe on all the floors of the building and the body remains are disturbed, altered, and destroyed. “It is very challenging for our experts to identify and collect these exhibits at the crime scene, however, a detailed inspection of the crime fire site is going on and whatever exhibits we have collected will be handed over to Investigating Officer. Since it is a large area, a complete examination of the scene will take time,” he added. A total of 27 people died and several people were injured in the fire incident near Mundka Metro station on May 13. A total of 50 people have been rescued, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District), Sameer Sharma. Of the 27 retrieved bodies, only seven have been identified till Saturday afternoon.—ANI

"We received information that Manish Lakra was going towards Haridwar in Uttarakhand. We laid a trap and nabbed him from Ghevra Mod," Sameer Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.Lakra used to live on the fourth floor of the commercial building, and he managed to escape to the adjacent building along with his family members when the fire broke out, the police said. The police have recovered 27 bodies and identified 14 of them as women and six as men so far, they said. A motivational programme underway on the second floor of the building when the fire broke out. A father-son duo from Australia were conducting the session, the police said.Lakra was on the run since the fire incident, the DCP said, adding that raids were conducted in Delhi and Haryana to nab him. According to the police, the building belonged to Lakra's father, who died in 2015, leaving it to him.The CCTV camera and router manufacturing and assembling company, in whose office the fire is suspected to have started, had been on the premises since 2017. Its owners have already been arrested. Nineteen people are still unaccounted for.—PTI

New Delhi: It has been nearly two weeks since the Mundka fire tragedy but the families of many victims are still awaiting a closure as the remains of their loved ones are yet to be handed over to them. At least 27 people were killed and many others injured in the massive blaze that ripped through a four-storey building in outer Delhi's Mundka on May 13.The Delhi Police had earlier said it has collected biological samples of 26 people, whose family members are believed to be killed in the fire, for DNA profiling.Of the 27 bodies that were recovered, only eight bodies have been identified.The family of 22-year-old Monika, one of the victims of the tragedy, said since the remains of her body has not been handed over to them, they don't know when they will be able to perform rituals and say their "last goodbye" to her. Family members of many other victims said they have become "exhausted" as despite their countless visits to hospitals and police stations, they are yet to get remains of their loves ones. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sameer Sharma said they are expecting the results of forensic tests by next week.Monika's father said they have accepted the bitter fact that their daughter is not with them anymore."Now we are being forced to fight for her remains," he said."We want to say goodbye properly to her and perform all the rituals so that her soul can rest in peace," he added.Monika was the eldest daughter of the Vijayalaxmi Tiwari and Ram Tiwari (name changed). The couple has four more children -- three sons and one daughter.Monika joined the factory in Mundka in Feburary and was earning Rs 7,500 per month.Her father said they gave their blood sample for DNA profiling on May 14, but since then, have not received any update."We are still waiting to hear from authorities. We have been paying visits to hospitals and police stations every day and nobody is ready to help. So many days have passed. We haven't gotten the remains of Monika," said her father who did not wish to be named.Monika's mother hasn't slept properly ever since her daughter went missing. She just cries and longs for one last glimpse of her daughter, says Monika's father."Her mother is depressed, and her condition is not good. She is not eating and only when somebody forces her, does she take one or two bites. Every day and night, she cries and she is broken. During nights she goes out to cry as we all are sleeping. We find her sitting on the road inconsolably crying," the victim's father, who also broke down, said."My daughter was a great helping hand. She was earning Rs 7,500 which is not much. I am an e-rickshaw driver. Since the incident, I have lost interest in work. I haven't earned a penny since then," he said.Similar reactions were echoed by the family of Asha, another victim of the fire tragegy. As soon as the fire broke out her family rushed to the spot to save her.However, they failed to find her. Since then, the family has been visiting the city hospital and police station to get her remains.Asha's brother broke down sharing his family's plight."It is very difficult every day. We are worried. We also need some kind of peace. The home doesnt feel like home," he said."At least we should get the bodies of our loved ones so that we can perform the last rights to let her soul rests in peace. Everyday, we are running here and there impatiently to receive the body," he added.A senior official from Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini here said the examination time for forensic sample is longer in "such cases"."We have received over 100 samples and they have been taken up for examination. The examination time is longer is such cases," the official said"Multiple samples are under examination currently and it may generate many reports. It is being done as per protocol and it is a multi-step procedure be it isolating it or further cleaning the samples, it takes time," he added. However, all this delay in getting the body of their loved one has left Sweety's family frustrated. Her husband Manoj Kumar said they have lost a member of their family and now they are being "tortured""We are still trying to overcome her loss. But they should understand that we are going through a lot. I dont know why no body is listening to them," he added.—PTI

New Delhi: The Forensic Science and Laboratory team handed over the DNA sample reports of victims of the Mundka fire incident to the Delhi Police on Tuesday. The Forensic team matched several samples with the missing persons' family's DNA.According to Delhi Police, DNA samples of 26 persons were collected from blood relatives. On May 13, as many as 27 people died after a massive fire broke out at an office building in Mundka in Delhi. The four-storey building was used as office space for multiple companies. According to the Delhi Police's FIR, the building did not have a fire safety protocol in place. Out of the 27 dead bodies, 8 were identified. The DNA profiling was conducted for the remaining bodies, said Delhi police. Following the incident, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) suspended two officials including a section officer.—ANI

New Delhi: After submitting the reports to Delhi Police, the forensic teams on Tuesday matched the seven samples with the DNA of the family members of the missing persons in the Mundka fire tragedy. A total of 27 dead bodies of victims of the Mundka fire incident, preserved at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and blood samples of their family members, were earlier sent to Forensic Science and Laboratory for DNA profiling and matching.On May 13, as many as 27 people died after a massive fire broke out at an office building in Mundka in Delhi. In the early stage of the case, eight dead bodies were handed over to their family members. Further, the FSL authorities handed over DNA profiles of three unknown dead bodies on Tuesday evening. In addition to this, the FSL authorities have been requested for taking fresh blood samples of accused persons namely Harish Goyal and Varun Goyal to match with the dead body of Amar Nath Goyal. Earlier, Forensic Science and Laboratory team has given DNA sample reports to the Delhi police team. Forensic teams have matched several samples with the missing persons' family DNA.—ANI
