Amaravati: The Telugu Desam Party on Monday announced its support to NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu announced this at a meeting of the party’s strategy committee, a release here said. “The TDP always stood for social justice. It had in the past supported K R Narayanan and A P J Abdul Kalam for the President’s post,” Naidu said. In the same spirit they were extending support to Murmu, the first Adivasi woman chosen for the highest constitutional post.The TDP has one member in the Rajya Sabha, three members in Lok Sabha and 23 members in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Amaravati: The instant inflow and outflow at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Dowaleswaram in Andhra Pradesh dropped further by one lakh cusecs to 8.65 lakh cusecs on Monday as the flood level in river Godavari has been on a steady decline.On the other side, the inflow in river Krishna too saw a fall at Srisailam reservoir to 76,294 cusecs after crossing the one lakh cusecs mark a couple of days ago, according to the state Water Resources Department data.On Sunday night, the flood flow at Cotton Barrage dipped below the first danger level of 10 lakh cusecs to 9.65 lakh cusecs. Consequently, the warning signals were withdrawn.The flood peaked to a maximum of 25.80 lakh cusecs on July 16, affecting more than 3.60 lakh population in six districts of AP, with Alluri Sitarama Raju, Konaseema and Eluru bearing the brunt.The government reported four deaths in heavy rain and flood-related incidents in the affected districts over the past week.The government had to evacuate close to two lakh persons from the affected habitations and lodge over 1.43 lakh of them in relief camps.Life, though, has not completely returned to normal in various parts of these districts as the flood-hit residents were struggling to clean up the mess left behind by the deluge.Meanwhile, 82,164 cusecs of water was being discharged from the Srisailam reservoir as it was filled with 197.46 tmc ft of water, which was 91.50 per cent of its capacity.The inflow in Nagarjuna Sagar downstream was 59,444 cusecs. As Nagarjuna Sagar dam still had a flood cushion of 113.79 tmc ft, only 1,000 cusecs of water was being discharged.—PTI

Amaravati:&nbsp;An alert conductor of a state-owned APSRTC bus averted a tragedy after the driver fell off the vehicle after a collision with a car.Passengers of the bus heaved a sigh of relief after the conductor took to the steering and controlled the vehicle after it had moved about 150 meters without a driver.The incident occurred on national highway near Kavali town in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district on Wednesday. The bus belonging to Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with 24 passengers was on its way from Kavali to Nellore town.According to police, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction rammed into the bus. Such was the impact of the collision that the bus driver fell off the vehicle onto the road.The collision sent panic among bus passengers as the vehicle continued moving without the driver. As the passengers started crying for help, conductor Nagaraju jumped to the driving seat and applied brakes, averting a disaster.The driver and 10 passengers of the bus received minor injuries in the collision. The car's front portion was badly mangled in the collision but both the occupants survived with injuries.—IANS

Amaravati:&nbsp;Five persons were killed in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district in the early hours of Monday.A car rammed into a truck from rear near Cumbam in Prakasam district. All five occupants of the car died on the spot.The accident occured on Amaravati-Anantapur highway. The deceased, including three women, were on their way to Tirupati from Macherla.The deceased were identified as Animi Reddy (60), Guravamma (60), Anantamma (55), Adilaxmi (58) and Nagi Reddy (24).On receipt of the information about the accident, police rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to a nearby government hospital for autopsy.The deceased hailed from Sirigiripadu village in Veldurti mandal of Palnadu district.Police suspect that overspeeding led to the collision. A police officer said they have registered a case and took up investigation.—IANS

Amaravati: Defending his three capital formula, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday said the government would go ahead with the decentralisation of administration.
Virtually ruling out development of Amaravati as the only state capital, he told the Assembly that building capital city Amaravati would be like a dream-chasing as this would cost Rs 30 lakh crore and take at least 100 years.
He was replying to a short discussion in the house on Decentralisation-Administrative Reforms.
The discussion assumed significance in view of the second Maha Padyatra launched by farmers and other locals of 29 villages of Amaravati region demanding implementation of the High Court order for development of Amaravati.
Jagan Mohan Reddy dismissed the long foot march as a drama and said it was aimed at fomenting regional hatred by provoking people of other regions.
He alleged that those involved in irregularities in land transactions in Amaravati and those who want to protect their lands and other interests were behind the protest for the last 1,000 days.
On the demand for development of Amaravati as the only capital, he remarked that the state was not restricted to just 8 square km radius or 50,000 acre land parcel.
Claiming that he is not against this region (south coastal Andhra), Jagan, as the leader is popularly known, said he wants to develop it at par with other regions and this was the reason the government decided to make Amaravati one of the three capitals.
As per the three-capital formula mooted by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government Visakhapatnam in north coastal Andhra will be developed as administrative capital, Kurnool in Rayalaseema region as judicial capital, and Amaravati in south coastal Andhra as legislative capital.
Jagan stated that Rs 1.05 lakh crore would be required for developing just the basic infrastructure like roads, drains and power supply in Amaravati. On the other hand, spending just Rs 10,000 crore on Visakhapatnam would be sufficient as basic infrastructure is readily available there, he said.
Explaining why he believes development of Amaravati is like dream-chasing, the Chief Minister said the state was not even in position to spend Rs 1,000 crore or Rs 2,000 crore per annum on capital works.
He said at this rate, it will take 100 years to build the capital city and because of inflation, the cost will go up to Rs 20 lakh crore or Rs 30 lakh crore. He remarked that a state, whose 80 per cent population is still living on white ration cards, can never mobilise such a huge amount of money.
Hitting out at his predecessor N. Chandrababu Naidu, Jagan said the previous government could not go beyond graphics.
He said those who cheated people through false hopes in the name of Amaravati development should be booked under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
He also dismissed the argument that Amaravati can be developed as a capital city through a self-financing model and pointed out that only 4,997 acres of land was available for sale.
The Chief Minister recalled that in February 2019, the Chandrababu Naidu government issued an order that 5,020 acres of land is available for commercial monetisation. "Now, we have to sell each acre for Rs 20 crore to raise Rs one lakh crore, required only for creation of basic infrastructure. How could it be a self-financing project when the land did not command such a price," he asked.
Earlier, the debate saw heated exchange between members of ruling YSRCP and opposition TDP.
Pandemonium over certain allegations made by the YSRCP over insider trading in Amaravati lands and the protest by the TDP led to suspension of the opposition legislators.
Speaker Tammineni Seetharam suspended 16 members of the TDP when they trooped towards his podium demanding an opportunity for party leader P. Keshav to speak.
Earlier, responding to allegations made against him, Keshav threw a challenge that if the ruling party proved them he would resign and give the lands to the ruling party leaders.&nbsp;

Kurnool: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday completed Andhra Pradesh leg of his ‘Bharat Jodo yatra‘ with the reiteration that his party remains committed to grant special category status to the state and develop a single capital at Amaravati.&nbsp;
On the fourth and final day of the Yatra in the state, Rahul Gandhi along with party leaders and scores of party workers resumed the Yatra Friday morning from Mantralayam in Kurnool district.&nbsp;
After a four-hour walk, the Yatra re-entered neighbouring Karnataka. It halted at Gillesugur in Raichur district. It will resume in the evening from Kerebudur village.
Rahul Gandhithanked the people of Andhra Pradesh for their overwhelming support and encouragement. It has truly been a memorable experience, he said.
Opposing the Centre’s move to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, the Congress MP said his party supports the continued public sector statue of the plant as an asset of the Indian people.
In a statement issued at the end of the journey in Andhra Pradesh, he recalled the commitment made in and by the Parliament to the people of Andhra Pradesh. “We are determined to ensure that these commitments are met -fully and speedily. Both the central and state governments have failed in this regard,” he said.

He alleged that the state government systematically undermined the Panchayati Raj system in the state. He said the Congress party strongly opposed this assault on the democratic institutions. “We will also continue to amplify the voices of farmers, youth, women, workers and many other stakeholders whom we interacted with over the last three days.”&nbsp;

Jagan Mohan Reddy.  The former chief minister alleged that the attack on Dalit MLA, Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, was pre-planned and carried out with the encouragement from the chief minister.  Strongly condemning the attack on TDP MLA inside the Assembly, he termed it the darkest day in the history of Assembly.  Never in the history of Andhra Pradesh, a MLA was attacked inside the House and today is the darkest day in the Assembly's history, Chandrababu Naidu said.  He stated that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will remain as a tainted chief minister who spoiled the image of the legislative bodies. "With the physical attack on the MLA right on the floor of the Assembly, the people clearly understood the policies of the YSRCP," he said.  Terming the ongoing session of the Assembly as a "Kaurava Sabha", Chandrababu Naidu felt that Jagan has gone "totally mad" with the latest results of the elections to the Legislative Council.  The state Assembly on Monday witnessed unprecedented scenes when the TDP members were staging a protest by surrounding Speaker Tammineni Seetharam. Amaravati News: Police in Andhra Pradesh's Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district have arrested a youth who hacked a woman to death mistaking her for his snapchat friend.

Kota Harikrishna of Nellore district hacked a woman to death with a knife in Amalapuram town of Konaseema district on April 4. The 25-year-old had come to the town with a plan to kill a woman who had rejected his proposal for a relationship.

Manne Sridevi (35) was working as a maid in the house of the woman who Harikrishna had intended to kill.

A police officer said Harikrishna and Nagadurga came to know each other on snapchat five months ago. They had become friends and were frequently talking and chatting over the phone.

The youth started pestering Nagadurga for a relationship. The woman, who was already married, rejected his proposal and stopped chatting with him. Angered over this, Harikrishna arrived in Amalapuram town to kill her.

As the woman had shared her residential address with him during the chatting, he reached there in an inebriated condition. He saw Nagadurga's mother Venkataramna whose picture she had shared with him and another woman standing next to her on the terrace. Mistaking her for Nagadurga, he attacked her with the knife on her neck. As Venkataramna started screaming and was getting down from the terrace, he attacked her with the knife from behind. While Sridevi died on the spot, Venkataramna was injured and later admitted to a hospital.

Hearing the cries of women, neighbours caught hold of Harikrishna and thrashed him. They later handed him over to police. IANS

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday adjourned to September 19 the hearing on a quash petition by former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in alleged Skill Development Corporation scam.
The court also stayed the hearing of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) petition in Vijayawada ACB court seeking custody of Naidu, who is
currently lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail.
Alleging that he was being targetted by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government out of political vendetta, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo has sought orders to set aside his judicial custody and also quash the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the CID.
The CID sought time to file counter to the quash petition. While allowing time to the CID, the High Court adjourned the hearing to September 19.
Naidu was arrested in the case by the CID in Nandyal on September 9. The next day, ACB Court in Vijayawada sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. The former chief minister was subsequently shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail.
The Vijayawada Court on Tuesday rejected Naidu’s plea for house custody instead of judicial custody. Naidu’s counsel had cited a threat to his life
in the jail but the government had conveyed to the court that all security measures were in place.
The CID had filed a petition in Vijayawada Court seeking Naidu’s custody for five days for further questioning in the case.
When Naidu’s counsel Sidharth Luthra brought this to the notice of the High Court on Wednesday, it directed the lower court not to take up hearing on the CID petition till September 18.
The case relates to the establishment of clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of Rs 3300 crore when Naidu was the chief minister.
The CID claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss of Rs 371 crore to the state government. The agency claimed that an advance of Rs 371 crore, representing the entire 10 per cent commitment by the government for the project, was released before any expenditure by the private
entities. According to the CID, most of the money released by the government as advance was diverted to shell companies through fake invoices, with no actual delivery or sale of the items mentioned in the invoices, CID officials said.
The CID mentioned in its remand report that the total amount spent by private entities on six skill development clusters is sourced exclusively
from funds advanced by the state government and the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Centre, totalling Rs 371 crore.
Meanwhile, the High Court also adjourned to September 19 hearing on another petition by Naidu for anticipatory bail in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road case.
The court directed the CID to file its counter and adjourned the hearing till next week.

In May 2022, the CID had registered an FIR against Chandrababu Naidu, former municipal administration minister Dr P. Narayana, Heritage Foods

The FIR was filed based on a complaint from YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Mangalgiri MLA A. Rama Krishna Reddy. It was alleged that certain illegal and corrupt activities were committed by highly placed government officials between 2014 and 2019 with regard to the design of master plan for the Andhra Pradesh capital and alignment of the ring road to cause wrongful gain to certain individuals. Heritage Foods is a company owned by Chandrababu Naidu’s family.
The ruling party has accused Naidu of large scale irregularities in land acquisition and other aspects in development of the state capital Amavati.

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh’s executive capital will start functioning from Visakhapatnam from Dasara with the shifting of Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s official residence.
The Chief Minister conveyed to the ministers during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
To start with, the office of the Chief Minister will begin operations from Visakhapatnam from Vijaya Dasmi.
A committee of officials will be appointed to identify buildings for shifting various government departments.
Another committee will be constituted to shift the offices from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.
Addressing the Global Investors Summit in Visakhapatnam in March, Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced that Visakhapatnam will be the executive capital of the state in the days to come.
He had told the summit that he would also be shortly moving over to Visakhapatnam.
At the curtain raiser event in Delhi on January 31, the Chief Minister had announced that Visakhapatnam will soon be the state capital.
It was on December 17, 2019 that Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced in the state Assembly that three state capitals will be developed reversing the decision of the previous TDP government to develop Amaravati as the statecapital.
The YSRCP government mooted Visakhapatnam as administrative capital, Kurnool as judicial capital and Amaravati as legislative capital.
However, the protest by farmers of Amaravati over shifting of the capital and the High Court order directing the government to develop Amaravati as the state capital had delayed the process.
On March 3, 2022, Andhra Pradesh High Court had directed the state government to develop Amaravati as the state capital in six months. A bench of three judges had pronounced the judgment on 75 petitions filed by Amaravati farmers and others challenging the government’s move on three capitals.
However, the state government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court. In November last year, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order saying the court cannot act like a town planner or an engineer.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) has named former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s son and former minister Nara Lokesh as an accused in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road case.  The CID filed a memo in Vijayawada ACB Court on Tuesday, naming Lokesh as an accused in the case  The CID has already named Naidu as an accused in the case and filed a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant petition against him in the same court.
Naidu, who is already in judicial custody in Skill Development scam, has approached the high court for anticipatory bail. The same is likely to come up for hearing later in the day.  In May 2022, the CID had registered an FIR against Chandrababu Naidu, former municipal administration minister Dr P. The scams allegedly took place when Naidu was the Chief Minister and Lokesh a minister in his cabinet.

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail petition by Telugu Desam Party general secretary Nara Lokesh in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road scam case. The court has also directed police to serve a notice under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). 
CID officials have registered an FIR against TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh in the scam. Nara Lokesh's legal team had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Andhra High Court prior to the 41A Notice but the court dismissed the bail petition and instructed Nara Lokesh to cooperate with CID officials in the case. The 41A notice instructs Nara Lokesh to appear before a police officer for further investigation in the case.  The CID alleged in a memo that Lokesh tried to benefit by changing the order of the inner ring road and also played a key role in the scam. The CID alleges corrupt activities were committed by highly placed officials in the Andhra government between 2014 to 2019 regarding the designing of master plan of Andhra Pradesh's capital city Amaravati and the alignment of Ring Road and arterial roads. Lokesh was named accused number 14 in the case.

Andhra court dismisses anticipatory bail plea by TDP’s Nara Lokesh in Amaravati Inner Ring Road scam case

New Delhi: TDP leader Nara Lokesh staged a protest along with his supporters in the national capital after the CID in Andhra Pradesh served a notice on him in connection with the Amaravati Inner Ring Road 'scam' case. The protest was held outside the Delhi residence of TDP MP Jayadev Galla.
Earlier, on Saturday, officers from the state CID reached Galla's residence and served the notice on Lokesh, son of TDP chief and former Andhra chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu. TDP supporters at the protest held up placards reading "We condemn the arrest of TDP president Chandrababu Naidu". Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday directed the state CID not to arrest Nara Lokesh in connection with the alleged skill development and AP FiberNet scams till October 4. The high court passed the direction during a hearing on anticipatory bail pleas in both cases by Lokesh. The court adjourned the hearing on both bail pleas to October 4. Significantly, Chandrababu Naidu is currently in judicial custody in connection with the alleged multi-crore skill development scam. The former Andhra CM has approached the Supreme Court, seeking cancellation of the FIR against him alleging that the YSR Congress government in the state had "falsely" implicated him in the case in a bid to muzzle the voice of the Opposition in the state. Earlier in the day, the high court dismissed Lokesh's anticipatory bail plea, directing the police to serve a notice under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). His legal team had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Andhra High Court prior to the 41A Notice. However, the court dismissed the bail petition and instructed Nara Lokesh to cooperate with CID officials in the case. The 41A notice by the CID asked Lokesh to appear for further investigation in the case. The CID alleged in a memo that Lokesh tried to derive personal benefits by changing the order of the inner ring road and also played a key role in the scam. It alleged further that corrupt activities were committed by highly placed officials in the Andhra government between 2014 to 2019, with regard to the drawing up of the master plan for developing Andhra's capital, Amaravati and the alignment of Ring Road and arterial roads. Lokesh was named accused number 14 in the case.
