Later, the girl narrated told her ordeal to her mother, who lodged a police complaint. On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was lodged against the girl's father on Saturday, he said. The victim has been sent to the district hospital for medical examination. Her statement will be recorded before the magistrate, Singh said.—PTI

Thane: A court here in Maharashtra has sentenced a man to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman in 2014. District Judge (Kalyan court) S B Kachre, in an order passed on May 26, a copy of which was made available on Saturday, also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on the accused -Vijay Divekar. Special Public Prosecutor Kirti Kulkarni told the court that on June 7, 2014, the victim, then aged 44, was alone at her home in Kalyan town of Thane district when the accused barged in and raped her. The woman later tried to commit suicide by hanging herself, but she was rushed to a hospital and got saved. The woman informed then about the incident to doctors at the hospital. She subsequently lodged a police complaint, based on which a case was registered against the accused for the offences of rape and house trespass and he was arrested. As many as 11 witnesses were examined to prove the case against the accused, the prosecution said.The judge accepted the depositions, and in his order said the prosecution has successfully proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and he needs to be convicted and sentenced.—PTI

New Delhi: A man accused of raping his minor step-daughter has died under mysterious circumstances inside the lockup at Dabri police station in Dwarka. Delhi Police have said that they are waiting for the autopsy report to comment on the matter. It is said that the man might have committed suicide. A senior police officer said that on Friday, they received a PCR call at the Dabri police station about a rape case, following which a team was sent to the spot.The accused, Subodh, was allegedly beaten up by the public and was handed over to the police after which he was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for treatment. During inquiry, the mother of the victim told the police that Shubodh (40), a resident of Madhu Vihar, sexually assaulted his step-daughter. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she underwent a medical test, which confirmed rape. The police then lodged an FIR under Section 4 of the POCSO Act following which Shubodh was arrested.Thereafter, the accused was lodged in the lockup of the Dabri police station. On Saturday, the accused reported that he was feeling unwell after which the SHO took him to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in an unconscious state. He was declared brought dead at the hospital. “As the acccused has died and as per the MLC he was beaten up by the public, a case under Section 304 IPC has been registered. The post-morterm report is awaited,” the police said.—IANS

New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a 38-year-old man — accused of trafficking, raping and forcing minor girls to work as maids, and was evading his arrest since 2014, an official said on Friday.The accused, identified as Brahma Dev Chaudhary, was previously booked under sections of rape, POCSO Act and child labour act. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Usha Rangnani said both the cases in which the accused was involved were solved by the police in 2014-15.Consequently, he was declared Proclaimed Offender in both the above-mentioned cases, and he was frequently changing his locations to shield himself from the eyes of police. After a long trail, he was apprehended from a place near Sarita Vihar Metro Station through technical surveillance as well as local intelligence. He had come there to meet one of his acquaintances. Sharing details of the case lodged around 8 years ago, the DCP said in August 2014, a rape and POCSO case was registered in which victim minor girl aged 13 years alleged that she belongs to a poor family of Assam and was trafficked by the accused person from Assam to Delhi on the pretext of job. She was kept in a ‘Kothi’ for working as a maid. She had worked there for 7-8 days and then returned to ‘placement agency’ office of the accused person at Shakurpur where she was raped by him. She was again employed at a Kothi at Pitampura where she worked for 12-13 days. She, however, managed to escape from there and reached the police station for complaint.Next year, in February 2015, another rape case was registered in which a minor girl aged 15 years alleged that she was trafficked by Chaudhary from Assam to Delhi. He kept her in a house at Shakurpur, Delhi where she was raped and forcefully employed by him as a maid at 2-3 locations of Delhi. She also managed to escape from a house in Greater Kailash where she was employed, and approached the police. Brahmdev Chaudhary was absconding since registration of both cases, and was finally nabbed in Delhi after 8 years.During questioning, he revealed his involvement in both cases and it was found that after changing many locations, he was currently residing as a tenant at a house in Surya Vihar, Faridabad. He was also not in contact with his family members for a long time. The accused was presented at a court here which sent him to judicial custody.—IANS

Mathura: Two youths accused of raping a minor girl, filming the act and sharing it online were arrested here, police said on Wednesday.Two more accused in the case are absconding, they said. An FIR was registered in the case under sections 376 D (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code, 67 IT Act and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) at Jait police station on Tuesday following a complaint by the victim’s father, police said. Deputy Superintendent of Police Praveen Mullick said, “Two accused Pramod and Rahul have been arrested and the hunt for the remaining two is on and they will be nabbed soon.” The incident happened in early June when the four accused lured the 13-year-old girl on the pretext of giving her free firewood and raped her, police said quoting the complainant. The accused also filed the act to further exploit the victim, they said. Two days ago, the accused pressured the girl for the act again and threatened her that they will make the video public. She alleged that he forced her to watch porn movies at home. When questioned, he tied her up with a rope and assaulted her.The victim complained that the accused impregnated her sister; and when she was not at home, he raped her daughters as well.The victim mentioned in her complaint that the case was lodged in J.C. Nagar police station on June 1, but no action was initiated against the accused officer. However, the police colluding with the accused have booked a case of blackmail against her.The Home Department is going to take a call on the issue and make submission to Karnataka High Court in this regard. —IANS

Special Judge of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court Sangeeta Kumari also slapped a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict Shanu Ali and directed him to hand over the amount to the survivor.According to Special Public Prosecutor Sanjiv Bakharwa, the incident took place on July 30, 2015.Ali lured the victim, who was 14 years old at the time, when she had gone for tailoring classes and then raped her, Bakharwa said. Following the incident, the survivor's father had lodged a complaint against Ali at the Tronica city police station. Six witnesses were examined by the prosecution in the case. —PTI

Pilibhit: A 26-year-old man, accused of raping his fiancee, was granted a four-hour parole from the court to marry her in this district of Uttar Pradesh. The marriage was solemnised at a temple in presence of policemen and families of the couple with mutual consent. The court will now decide whether to allow withdrawal of the rape case.
A case had been registered against the accused by his 23-year-old fiancee. She made the rape allegations after their marriage was called off due to a dispute between the families over dowry.&nbsp;
The man was sent to jail in April. However, two families recently reached a compromise and told the court that they want to stop proceedings in the case. Thereafter, the court granted him parole.&nbsp;
Sanjay Kumar Rai, jailor of Pilibhit district prison, said: “On August 22, we received the court order, allowing four hours parole to an undertrial who was held in a rape case. Following the court order, we wrote to SP Pilibhit to make necessary security arrangements and he was released on parole on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.”
Both the parties had gone to the court and filed their affidavits after reaching a settlement that the rape accused will marry the survivor. During the hearing, the court granted him parole, ordered him to marry the survivor in police custody on August 23 and file a proof for the same.&nbsp;

Kushinagar: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a one-and-half-year-old infant girl in his neighbourhood in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, police said.
According to police, Ravi Rai, a resident of the Vishnupura area, of Kushinagar district used to often play with the girl.
Rai came to the child's house and took her away to buy chocolates.
When Rai did not return even after two hours, the girl's family members went to his house and inquired about their daughter, but was unable to find her there. The girl's family members subsequently informed the police.
During police interrogation, the accused admitted raping the girl who was then recovered from a farm. On the written complaint of the girl's family members, police have registered a case against the man under the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Ritesh Kumar Singh, said, "The police have arrested the accused and the baby girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital." —IANS

Hardoi: After being pulled up by the Allahabad High Court, the Hardoi police arrested two constables for allegedly raping two cousins, aged 18 and 19, in April 2022.
A third accused in the case, a sub-inspector (SI), is still absconding.
According to reports, the survivors had moved the High Court alleging police inaction. The court took note of the matter and directed police to initiate appropriate action in the complaint and apprise the court.&nbsp;
The arrested constables have been identified as Manoj Singh and Himanshu Singh while the absconding sub inspector is Sanjay Singh.
Hardoi superintendent of police Rajesh Dwivedi said that an FIR was registered on the directions of the court on August 21.
He said, "We had formed an SIT comprising a CO-rank officer to probe the matter and it is still under investigation."
Dwivedi also said a non-bailable warrant has been issued against the third accused and teams have been formed to nab him at the earliest.
The parents of the girls (both adults) had alleged that on April 14, 2022, the accused cops had gone to a roadside eatery where the cousins used to work and they raped them there.
"We ran from pillar to post but the cops did not register a case. We also met the then Hardoi SP, but our complaint went unheard. Thereafter, we lodged a petition in the local court," they told reporters.
Later in August, the court gave an order for an FIR and action, but the police lodged a final report in the case.
"The victims against moved the court which then directed the Hardoi SP to ensure arrest of the accused officers and apprise it of the action," he further said.&nbsp;
