Mathura: A Mathura court on Thursday allowed a petition seeking to remove the Shahi Idgah mosque that it claims is built on the land belonging to the Keshav Dev temple, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, a lawyer for the Hindu side said. Hari Shankar Jain said the court has accepted one of the multiple pleas on the matter. The Krishna Janmabhoomi complex spans 13.37 acres. Rigorous competition in ad technology has made online ads more relevant, reduced fees, and expanded options for publishers and advertisers," the company spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report.Not just the US, Google is facing anti-trust probes in the UK and India too.The UK competition watchdog in May opened a second investigation into Google's unfair practices in ad tech, following the launch of a probe into Google and Meta's 'Jedi Blue' agreement.The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating whether Google has broken the law by restricting competition in the digital advertising technology market."We're worried that Google may be using its position in ad tech to favour its own services to the detriment of its rivals, of its customers and ultimately of consumers," said Andrea Coscelli , the CMA's Chief Executive.The CMA is assessing whether Google's 'ad tech stack' practices may distort competition.In July 2021, the French regulator closed a similar case against Google having imposed a fine and secured commitments.In March this year, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) ordered an investigation into complaints against Google for abusing its dominant position related to news referral services and Google ad-tech services in the Indian online news media market.The CCI found that prima facie, these allegations of abuse of dominant position are under the purview of the Competition Act, 2002 and requires a detailed investigation by the Additional Director General. --- IANS

San Francisco (The Hawk): In response to claims that it tracked users' whereabouts without their permission in the US, Google will pay a landmark $391.5 million settlement to 40 states in the country.
In order to resolve accusations that the tech giant improperly tracked the locations of Android users, Google last month paid the state of Arizona $85 million.
Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum of Oregon and Attorney General Doug Peterson of Nebraska led a recent settlement with Google on its location tracking policies, which is the largest attorney general-led consumer privacy settlement ever.
Oregon will get $14,800,563 as compensation for its leadership in the bipartisan investigation and settlement.
According to Attorney General Rosenblum, "Google has put profit over their consumers' privacy for years."
"They have been cunning and dishonest. Customers believed they had disabled Google's location tracking tools, but the corporation continued to track them covertly and exploit that data for marketers "He declared late on Monday in a statement.
According to the terms of the settlement, Google deceived its customers into believing they had disabled location tracking in their account settings while, in reality, Google kept track of their locations.
Along with the multimillion dollar settlement, Google also committed to dramatically enhance its location tracking disclosures and user controls beginning in 2023 as part of the agreements with the AGs.
The Oregon Department of Justice claims that a significant component of Google's digital advertising business is location data. Google creates thorough user profiles and targets adverts using the behavioural and personal information it gathers.
Location information is perhaps some of the most delicate and important personal data that Google gathers. Even a small bit of location information can be utilised to infer personal information and reveal a person's identify and routines.
The state attorneys general determined that Google has been deceiving customers about its location monitoring methods since at least 2014.
With regard to how much consumers might restrict Google's location monitoring by changing their account and device settings, Google specifically misled its users.
Google claimed in a blog post that the case was founded on "outdated product policies" that the business had already updated.
A new toggle will allow users to "in one simple move" turn off and delete your location history as well as your site and app activity, according to Google, which also said it will start offering more "specific" information about the data it collects tracking during the account registration process.

At the Mahalakshmi police station, the guy has filed a complaint against his wife and her parents.
The man, a Hindu who worked in a welding shop, wed a Christian woman in 2019. But he was under pressure to become a Christian by his wife and her family.
He had said that the harassment had grown intolerable and that he was now receiving threats against his life from his wife and her parents unless he become a Christian.
He admitted to the police that his wife intentionally files missing person reports everytime he relocates for work in other states. He added that his wife had borrowed money from neighbours in his name.
Information is awaited.

Bengaluru (The Hawk): The Karnataka High Court has quashed the Income Tax department's order to seize Rs 3,700 crore from a fixed deposit as part of a tax fraud lawsuit against Xiaomi Technology India, which is a significant victory for the firm.
The court recently issued an order preventing Xiaomi Technology from sending any payments from FDs worth Rs 3,700 crore to companies outside of India. Additionally, it mandated that draught assessment proceedings be finished by March 31 by the Income Tax agency.
The corporation is permitted to take out overdrafts against the FD accounts and make payments, according to the ruling of a bench presided over by Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar.
The principal commissioner's consent, the bench emphasised, exhibits utter lack of mental effort. It is a silent, unjustified permission that is against the law. The only justification given by the IT department for the attachment of FDs was to safeguard revenue interest. The bench ruled that the approval-based impugned ruling needed to be reversed.
The IT department made the case that the petitioner, who was accused of cheating the respondents and evading taxes by moving money outside of India, shouldn't receive any assistance.

San Francisco News: A new lawsuit has been filed against Google seeking 3.4 billion pounds ($4.2 billion) in compensation for publishers for lost revenue.

According to the claim, made by ex-Guardian technology editor Charles Arthur, Google illegally used its dominant position in online advertising to reduce publishers' profits, the BBC reported.

Google stated that it would vigorously oppose the "speculative and opportunistic" action.

In the lawsuit, Arthur claimed that because of Google's abuse of its position, ad-tech services were inflated, and publishers' ad sales revenues were unlawfully reduced, the report said.

"The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is currently investigating Google's anti-competitive conduct in ad-tech, but they don't have the power to make Google compensate those who have lost out. We can only right that wrong through the courts, which is why I am bringing this claim," Arthur was quoted as saying.

It is the second such lawsuit, following a similar one filed in November last year.

The claim was brought by former UK's communications regulator Ofcom director Claudio Pollack, who is seeking damages of up to 13.6 billion pounds from Google, the report mentioned.

Meanwhile, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal has said that Google will have to pay the fine of Rs 1,337.76 crore, imposed on it by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

The CCI had, on October 30, 2022, imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crore on Google for anti-competitive practices in relation to Android mobile devices. IANS

Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has ordered the Government Railway Police (GRP), Lucknow, to present a progress report in court on September 13 in the case of a female police constable who was fund severely injured in Saryu Express on August 30 in Ayodhya.&nbsp;
The court, taking suo moto cognisance of the heinous incident, had summoned relevant officials to appear before it on Sunday night.

This directive was issued by a division bench comprising of Chief Justice Pritinker Diwakar and Justice Ashutosh Srivastava on Monday while hearing the PIL.&nbsp;
Puja Yadav, superintendent of police (SP) for GRP, Lucknow, along with the deputy superintendent of police (Deputy SP) from the Railway division were present in the court.
SP Puja Yadav told the court that the victim’s statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) could not be obtained as she is currently unable to provide a statement.
Furthermore, she stated that no evidence implicating any specific individuals has surfaced thus far.
Additionally, there is no evidence of sexual assault; the victim’s injuries are confined to her head and face.
However, when questioned about the details of the incident and the timing, SP Puja Yadav was unable to provide a clear response.
She mentioned that the incident likely occurred between Ayodhya station and Mankapur station, and the weapon used has not been recovered.
During the Sunday hearing, the court directed the court registry to serve notices to the central government through its secretary, the Ministry of Railways/Railway Board in New Delhi, the director-general of Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Uttar Pradesh government through its secretary, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the State Commission for Women, Uttar Pradesh.
It may be recalled that the 45-year-old woman head constable was discovered unconscious with multiple stab wounds in a general compartment of the Saryu Express at Ayodhya Junction railway station .
She is undergoing treatment in the King George’s Medical university in Lucknow.&nbsp;

Mumbai: Most of the sectoral indices were in green at the closing on Wednesday, as Nifty PSU Bank led the way with gains of 4.23 per cent, said Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza Portfolio.
While the Nifty 50 index climbed 76.8 points to close above the 20,000-mark at 20,070 for the first time ever, the BSE Sensex was up 245.86 points to close at 67,466 on Wednesday. Thirteen of the 15 Nifty sectoral indices ended in the green in Wednesday's session.
Lower deposit-to-credit ratio, focusing more on high-yield products, and introducing technology into PUS banks will all help the sector's banks attracting more investors by boosting profitability and fostering development, Vidwani said.
The CPI for India dropped to 6.83 per cent in August from 7.44 per cent in July. In addition, there was unexpected rise in industrial production to 5.7 per cent in July from 3.7 per cent in June.
Meanwhile, Coffee Day Global and IndusInd Bank have notified the Chennai bench of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) that they had achieved a settlement and dropped their insolvency lawsuits. The order admitting Coffee Day Global to insolvency was overturned after NCLAT took their comments into account, Vidwani said.
Coal India, Grasim Industries, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consumer Products and Titan Company were among the top gainers on the Nifty, while the losers included HDFC Life, L&amp;T, M&amp;M, Adani Ports and Cipla.
Volumes on the NSE were a bit lower than recent average. The small-cap index rose more than the Nifty even as the advance decline ratio rose sharply to 1.94:1.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea moved by news magazine Tehelka and its co-founder Aniruddha Bahal seeking review of an order directing them to pay Rs 2 crore in damages to Major General M.S. Ahluwalia in a defamation case filed back in 2002.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said that there is no error apparent on the face of record nor have the applicants been able to highlight any error or mistake which can be corrected within the ambit of review.
On July 21, the court directed Tehelka, its former editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, Bahal and a reporter to pay Rs 2 crore in damages.
The defamation suit was based on a story published by Tehelka in March 2001, which portrayed Ahluwalia as an alleged corrupt middleman involved in defence deals related to the import of new equipment.
A video tape and transcript had also alleged that Ahluwalia had accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 from one of the reporters.
This "false" allegation received wide publicity through various media channels and had serious repercussions, leading to a Court of Inquiry initiated by the Indian Army.
Justice Krishna had observed that the article had severely damaged Ahluwalia's reputation, leading to a decline in public esteem and causing serious harm to his character with allegations of corruption that could not be easily rectified or healed by subsequent refutation.
Ahluwalia had previously sent a legal notice seeking an apology, but it was refused by the defendants. The court observed that the apology at this stage has become irrelevant as the plaintiff has already suffered the Court of Inquiry and has already been punished with severe displeasure qua his conduct which was held to be unbecoming of an Army Officer.The court had ordered: "... damages in the sum of Rs 2,00,00,000/- (Rupees two crores) is awarded to the plaintiff to be paid by defendant No.1 to 4 for having caused defamation, along with costs of the suit."
The court had said that Ahluwalia, an honest Army Officer who had rejected bribes, had suffered significant harm to his reputation due to the false statements made about him.
Noting that the Court of Inquiry gave a clean chit to Ahluwalia and severe displeasure was awarded only because of his conduct of agreeing to meet with people of doubtful credentials, the judge had said: "It is a service discipline which was questioned and not the integrity or character of the plaintiff (Ahluwalia). To borrow the triple test... this false statement about the plaintiff to his discredit, exposed him to hatred, ridicule, or contempt, or which causes him to be shunned or avoided, or which has a tendency to injure him in his office, professional or trade and consequently tended to lower the plaintiff in the estimation of right thinking members of society.
"While the court had said that Tehelka's objective might have been in the public interest, it stated that this did not justify fabricating false statements to sensationalise the story among the general public.As for Zee Telefilm Limited, its former Chairman Subhash Chandra, and former Chief Executive Officer Sandeep Goyal, the court found no evidence to support Ahluwalia's claim of defamation against them.

Our devotees across the world are very hurt. We are taking legal action of defamation of Rs 100 crores against her. We have sent her a notice today," Vice-President of ISKCON Kolkata, Radharamn Das told ANI.&nbsp;
This came after a viral video of Gandhi surfaced recently, in which the founder of People for Animals could be heard alleging that the ISKCON is the "biggest cheat in the country which sells cows from its gaushalas to butchers".&nbsp;
Responding to it, Das said, "How can an MP, once a Union Minister, say a lie against such a big society without any evidence? She is saying (in the purported video) that she visited our Anantpur Gaushala but our bhakts (ISKCON members) there do not remember the visit."

Los Angeles [US]: 'The Last of Us' fame Ashley Johnson has filed a lawsuit against Brian Foster, her ex-boyfriend and former 'Critical Role' castmate, alleging "domestic violence, sexual battery, assault, stalking, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and civil rights violations." According to Variety, the suit was filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, with seven female plaintiffs -- six named, including Johnson and her sister, Haylie Langseth, and one Jane Doe -- alleging misconduct by Foster over "the last decade" that was "fueled by chronic abuse of drugs and alcohol." Johnson alleged that her relationship with Foster began in October 2012 and he moved into her home soon after. By 2015, she alleged that "on a nearly daily basis," he would go into "a violent fit," which included "breaking glass, punching through glass doors, breaking a gate, slamming doors, and getting in Johnson's face screaming obscenities at her. In the lawsuit, Johnson alleged that Foster's behaviour worsened in 2019 due to her work to support them financially and that his drinking increased after he was fired from Critical Role in 2021. The lawsuit stated Johnson and Foster broke up in 2023, but that following the split, he began carrying around a black duffel bag and ammo case, which contained "two airsoft guns modified to appear as real guns and a garotte which is a strangulation device." The suit also alleged that Foster groped Langseth, Johnson's sister, in front of Johnson and Langseth's children, and that he subjected several other women, several of whom worked on Critical Role, to "inappropriate sexual advances" -- including "groping them without consent" -- after falsely claiming he and Johnson were in an open relationship. Los Angeles: Actor Jamie Foxx has been sued for an alleged sexual assault at a rooftop bar in New York city.  Just a few months after he's out of the woods following a health scare, the actor is now facing lawsuit for an alleged incident that happened several years ago.  In the suit that was filed on Wednesday, the woman, who identified as Jane Doe, claims the Oscar winner sexually assaulted her at a rooftop bar in New York City back in 2015.  The docs detail that the 55-year-old Hollywood star was at Catch NYC &amp; Roof in August 2015 around 11 P.M. when the plaintiff arrived to be seated in the rooftop lounge and bar. She says she noticed the actor one table away, reports aceshowbiz.com.  Around 1 A.M., the plaintiff's friend asked Jamie if he'd take a photo with her and the plaintiff. He allegedly said, "Sure, baby anything for you," but appeared to have been intoxicated at the time.  After they took several photos together, he allegedly made flirty comments, including "Wow, you have that supermodel body" and "You smell so good," and told the plaintiff she looked like Gabrielle Union.  He then pulled her by the arm to the back area of the rooftop, where he placed both hands on her waist and groped her private parts, according to the plaintiff.  The woman claims she attempted to step away and noticed a security guard and others who saw what had happened, but they chose to walk away.  He allegedly only stopped touching her when her friend came over and saw what was happening.  The woman claims she was injured and had to undergo a medical treatment. She says she suffered pain and emotional distress as a result of the "sexual assault, abuse, assault and battery." She is suing the 'Annie' actor, Catch and its employees for compensatory and punitive damages.  Jamie has not responded to the allegations. He was hospitalised due to unspecified medical emergency in April, but was discharged from the hospital in April. He seemed to have been recovering well and back to his normal routine.  —IANS

Musk has come under increasing fire in recent weeks for supposed failures to combat antisemitism on the social media site X, formerly Twitter, which the entrepreneur bought in April 2022, The Jerusalem Post has reported. The failure to combat antisemitism on the app and comments viewed as anti-Semitic, shared by Musk himself resulted in several advertisers like Apple and Disney cutting off their spending on the microblogging site. Amid the row over endorsing 'anti-semitic' post on X, the platform owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that the social media platform will file a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against the media watchdog 'Media Matters' alleging that it "completely misrepresented the real user experience" and "undermined free speech". Earlier this week, Musk announced that X would be donating all revenue from advertising and subscriptions "associated with the war in Gaza" to hospitals in Israel and the Red Cross/Crescent in Gaza.  In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote, "We will track how funds are spent and go through Red Cross/Crescent. Better ideas are welcome. We should care about the innocent regardless of race, creed, religion or anything else." Last month, Musk had made a claim that he wanted to provide internet coverage through his ambitious new Starlink satellite to the Gaza Strip, which sparked outrage from Israeli officials, including Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, The Jerusalem Post has reported. Karhi claimed he would fight any move to try to do so nevertheless Musk stressed that if Starlink access is provided to Gaza, the company would take "extraordinary measures" to confirm that it is used for purely humanitarian reasons. Friday marks the first day of a four-day ceasefire set to commence between Israel and the Hamas militant group, which will see the release of hostages, Palestinian prisoners and crucial humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip.

New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on BharatPe's former MD Ashneer Grover in response to alleged defamatory social media posts against the fintech company.  Justice Rekha Palli expressed dismay at the persistent and blatant violation of earlier orders and assurances made by Grover.  The judge, appalled by this behaviour, decided to close the matter, binding Grover to his undertaking but imposed a cost of Rs 2 lakh. The court directed the payment to the high court's clerks' association.  The court took on record Grover's apology and undertaking but proceeded to levy the fine, saying that it cannot be taken for granted.  Senior advocate Akhil Sibal for plaintiff -- owner of BharatPe, Resilient Innovations Pvt Ltd -- pointed out Grover's continued violation of court orders and urged the court to issue an injunction restraining him from posting defamatory content.  In response, Grover's counsel mentioned his client's apology and undertaking to refrain from offensive posts in the future, suggesting the matter be disposed of.  The counsel also proposed mediation to resolve the dispute.  Earlier, the court had directed Ashneer Grover and the officials of the fintech company not to speak in a "unparliamentary" or "defamatory" manner against one another.  After Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed an FIR against Grover and members of his family, BharatPe had filed an application alleging that Grover had been tweeting defamatory statements ever since.  BharatPe filed the application in its already pending defamation suit related to Grover's earlier tweets.  "This is not a street fight between some rival gangs in the corner of the city. These are corporate people, educated people, articulate people who can surely adjudicate their grievances against each other in a more refined way," Justice Prateek Jalan had said.  "If you have both decided to enter the gutter, then please remain there."  Appearing for the fintech company, senior advocates Rajiv Nayar and Dayan Krishnan had referred to some of Grover's tweets which alleged that the firm has spent several crores on "lawyers and fixers".  Grover can dispute the BharatPe complaint against him and the Delhi Police's FIR in court if he has issues with the company's complaint, the counsel had argued.  Highlighting some of the tweets by BharatPe officials, advocate Giriraj Subramanium, appearing for Grover, had said that BharatPe officials have used similar language against his client on social media and levelled allegations against Grover in the Press.  The bench then said that such statements should not be made by two sides.  "Issue notice, Mr Subramanium learned counsel for all respondents accepts notice. Reply be filed by May 20, rejoinder by May 22. List before the roster bench on May 24. While keeping the application pending for adjudication on contest, the learned counsel on all sides have requested to advise their clients to avoid recourse to unparliamentary and defamatory publication against each other," the court ordered as Subramanium said that he will advise Grover to use more decorous language.  BharatPe had approached the High Court months after Grover and his wife were dismissed from the company over allegations of misappropriation of funds.  In its suit, running into 2,800 pages, BharatPe has claimed damages worth Rs 88.67 crore from Grover, his wife, and his brother for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds.  The damages sought include a claim for payment made against the invoices of non-existent vendors amounting to Rs 71.7 crore, a claim for Rs 1.66 crore penalty paid to GST authorities, payments totalling Rs 7.6 crore made to vendors purportedly providing recruitment services, payments of Rs 1.85 crore made to a furnishings company, payments for personal expenditures up to Rs 59.7 lakh and payment of Rs 5 crore damages for loss of reputation to the company caused by tweets and other statements made by them.  In its suit, the fintech company claimed that a Rajasthan-based travel company had raised invoices for foreign tours twice, once for Grover and his wife and second time, for their children. The family also used the company's funds to travel abroad.  The suit further claimed that the Grovers used the company funds to pay the rent and security deposit of their posh duplex and for home appliances, too. The duplex was first taken over by Grovers as the company's guest house but eventually they started living there, the suit claimed.

London [UK]: The UK High Court has ruled that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, was subjected to 'extensive' phone hacking by Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) between 2006 and 2011, CNN reported. Justice Fancourt awarded Prince Harry Pound 140,600 (USD 179,000) after ruling that 15 stories published by MGN about him utilised unlawful information gathering methods, including voicemail hacking and the use of private investigators.
While 33 articles were initially considered, the judge concluded that phone hacking was not the sole journalistic tool used during that period, and Prince Harry's claims related to the other 18 articles did not withstand careful analysis, CNN reported. Prince Harry, suing MGN alongside three other claimants, called the ruling "a great day for truth, as well as accountability." His statement, read by his lawyer David Sherborne outside the London court, emphasized that the court found "unlawful and criminal activities" occurred across all three MGN newspaper titles--The Mirror, The Sunday Mirror, and The People--for over a decade. "The court has ruled that unlawful and criminal activities were carried out at all three of Mirror Group's newspaper titles (The Mirror, The Sunday Mirror and The People) on a habitual and widespread basis for more than a decade," the 39-year-old royal said.  The Duke urged regulatory bodies, including the Metropolitan Police, to investigate and bring charges against MGN and those involved in breaking the law. He emphasised the need for a free and honest press, stating that anything to the contrary poisons the profession. Prince Harry also appealed to the financial regulator, the Metropolitan Police and prosecuting authorities to "do their duty for the British public and investigate bringing charges against the company and those who have broken the law." He also called for a "free and honest press," in the UK and globally, asserting that "anything else is poisoning the well of a profession we all depend on." He added, "Today's ruling is vindicating and affirming. I've been told that slaying dragons will get you burned. But in light of today's victory and the importance of doing what is needed for a free and honest press - it's a worthwhile price to pay. The mission continues."  The prince's legal team said that he was unable to present his statement in person due to the "short notice" given by the court. The judgement also revealed that MGN began using phone hacking in 1996, and the practice remained extensive from 2006 to 2011. However, the prince's phone "was only hacked to a modest extent" during that period, according to the judge's summary. MGN welcomed the judgement, said an MGN spokesperson, acknowledging historical wrongdoing, offering unreserved apologies, taking full responsibility, and paying appropriate compensation. "Where historical wrongdoing took place, we apologise unreservedly, have taken full responsibility and paid appropriate compensation," the spokesperson added. Prince Harry's legal team noted that he was unable to present his statement in person due to short notice. This case marks Prince Harry as the first senior member of the British royal family to give evidence on a witness stand in over 130 years. In June, he detailed the distress caused by press coverage during his youth, emphasizing the destructive role played by MGN articles in his adolescence. The legal battle is one of several initiated by Prince Harry against major UK newspaper publishers, including Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers and Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers Limited, highlighting his commitment to addressing media practices that he views as intrusive and harmful.

Los Angeles [US]: 'Fast and Furious' franchise star Vin Diesel has been accused of sexual assault by a former assistant. The Hollywood actor allegedly sexually assaulted Asta Jonasson in 2010 when she was working on the 'Fast Five' set in Atlanta, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on Thursday, reported CNN. In a civil suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Diesel's former assistant, Asta Jonasson, alleged he forced himself on her in a hotel suite in Atlanta in 2010.
According to CNN, the complaint states Diesel ignored Jonasson's "clear statements of non-consent," and after she "screamed and ran towards the nearby bathroom," he "pinned her against the wall with his body."
However, Vin Diesel "categorically denies this claim in its entirety," said his attorney Bryan Freedman in a statement to CNN later on Friday. "This is the first he has ever heard about this more than 13 year old claim made by a purportedly 9 day employee." Jonasson is suing Diesel, along with his company One Race Productions, and Diesel's sister Samantha Vincent for sexual battery, creating a hostile work environment, negligent supervision, and wrongful termination, among her other claims.  According to CNN, Jonasson claims that Samantha Vincent, the president of Diesel's company One Race at the time, called her "mere hours" after the alleged assault and "terminated Ms. Jonasson's employment." The victim is seeking an imposition of a civil penalty of USD 10,000 for each violation, plus unspecified punitive damages, according to the suit. "No one is too famous or powerful to evade justice," Claire-Lise Kutlay of Greenberg Gross LLP, attorney for Jonasson, wrote in a statement shared with CNN. "We hope her courageous decision to come forward helps create lasting change and empowers other survivors." Diesel has appeared in more than 60 TV and film titles. He is also among the producers of the global hit franchise of "Fast &amp; Furious" films. He has several upcoming projects in the works, including 'Fast X: Part 2', reported CNN.

Washington: Twitter violated contracts by failing to pay millions of dollars in bonuses that the social media company, now called X Corp, had promised its employees, a federal judge ruled on Friday.
Mark Schobinger, who was Twitter's senior director of compensation before leaving Elon Musk's company in May, sued Twitter in June, claiming breach of contract.  Schobinger's suit alleged that before and after billionaire Musk bought Twitter last year, it promised employees 50 per cent of their 2022 target bonuses but never made those payments.  In denying Twitter's motion to dismiss the case, US District Judge Vince Chhabria ruled that Schobinger plausibly stated a breach of contract claim under California law and he was covered by a bonus plan.
"Once Schobinger did what Twitter asked, Twitter's offer to pay him a bonus in return became a binding contract under California law. And by allegedly refusing to pay Schobinger his promised bonus, Twitter violated that contract," the judge wrote.  X no longer has a media relations office. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment to its X account outside business hours.  Twitter's lawyers argued that the company made only an oral promise that was not a contract, and that Texas law should govern the case, according to Courthouse News, which first reported the ruling. The judge ruled that California law governed the case and that "Twitter's contrary arguments all fail."  X has been hit with numerous lawsuits by former employees and executives since Musk bought the company and culled more than half of its workforce.  The lawsuits make a range of claims, including that X discriminated against older employees, women and workers with disabilities, and failed to give advance notice of mass layoffs. The company denies wrongdoing.

Washington: The Colorado Republican Party on Wednesday asked the US Supreme Court to intervene after Colorado's top court disqualified former President Donald Trump from appearing on the state's Republican primary ballot, an attorney for the Republican group said.
The appeal comes after the Colorado Supreme Court on December 19 disqualified Trump because of his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by his supporters. The court barred Trump under a US constitutional provision prohibiting anyone who "engaged in insurrection or rebellion" from holding public office.  The Colorado Republican Party is being represented by Jay Sekulow of the conservative litigation firm the American Center for Law &amp; Justice.

Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican 2024 presidential nomination, is expected to file his own appeal. The state high court had put its decision on hold until January 4, stating that Trump would remain on the ballot if he appealed.  The Colorado court's ruling marked the first time in history that Section 3 of the US Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment - the so-called disqualification clause - had been used to deem a presidential candidate ineligible for the White House.  The 4-3 Colorado Supreme Court ruling reversed a lower court judge's conclusion that Trump engaged in insurrection by inciting his supporters to violence, but as president, he was not an "officer of the United States" who could be disqualified under the Fourteenth Amendment.

The Colorado court concluded that Trump's role instigating violence at the Capitol as lawmakers met to certify the results of the 2020 election constituted engaging in insurrection, and that the presidency is covered by the insurrection provision.  The attack was an attempt by Trump's supporters to overturn his 2020 election loss to Democratic President Joe Biden, which Trump falsely claims was the result of fraud.  Courts have rejected several lawsuits seeking to keep Trump off the primary ballot in other states. Minnesota's top court rebuffed an effort to disqualify Trump from the Republican primary in that state but did not rule on his overall eligibility to serve as president.
