Chennai (The Hawk): The Sensex of the BSE and the Nifty of the NSE both reached record highs on Tuesday as the Indian stock markets erupted for the second day in a row.
After starting the day at 62,362.08 points and touching a low of 62,362.08 points throughout the day, the Sensex of the BSE reached a record high of 62,877.73 points on Monday.
On Monday, the Sensex reached an all-time high of 62,701.40 points before closing at 62,504.80 points.
The Sensex has increased by 323.21 points to 62,828.01 points.
The Nifty began at 18,552.45 points on the NSE after closing at 18,562.75 points the previous day.
The Nifty then surged to a high of 18,659.75 points and a low of 18,552.15 points.

Mumbai: Actress Raveena Tandon, who is known for 'Mohra', 'K.G.F', 'Andaz Apna Apna', and others, has accused the media of the 1990s of practising "yellow journalism" and said that the media back then had no accountability.  During a recent conversation, the ‘Aranyak’ actress said: “The media of the 1990s was terrible, it was yellow journalism at its peak. They had no morals, no scruples and no integrity. Luckily, today you have social media where you can put out your case right away in front of your fans. Your statement matters today."  Raveena told Lehren: “There are different mediums and platforms today, where you can be one on one with your fans. Earlier, we were at the mercy of the editors, who had their own camps whom they were close to as they would write only good things about them, not even waiting to find out the truth. Even if they had to issue an apology, it would be a very small line, very obscure in the inside pages."  The actress went on to say that she had the worst articles written about her.   “Some of those women editors today play the feminist card but I know how nasty they were back then. These are the very people who slut-shammed, body shamed, called me names and pet names. I was called so many things like ‘Amazonian’, ‘Thunder Thighs’ and ‘Miss arrogant’," the actress concluded.  — IANS

New Delhi: Investors became richer by over Rs 4.97 lakh crore on Monday as equity benchmark indices jumped more than 1 per cent to hit life-time peaks after the BJP's win in three Hindi heartland states.
BJP's clear majority in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh state elections fuelled the positive investor sentiments. Robust macroeconomic numbers and unabated foreign fund inflows also supported the rally in the domestic markets.  The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 877.43 points, or 1.30 per cent, to a new peak of 68,358.62 in early trade.  Following the rally, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms jumped by Rs 4.97 lakh crore to Rs 342.64 lakh crore from Rs 337.67 lakh crore on Friday.  Among the Sensex firms, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports led the index with the maximum gains of 6.79 per cent and 4.52 per cent, respectively. Other major gainers were SBI, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, NTPC and Larsen &amp; Toubro.
In five trading sessions, investors' wealth has gone up by Rs 13.92 lakh crore.  In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge jumped 1.03 per cent and smallcap index climbed 1.09 per cent.  The combined market valuation of all listed companies on the BSE reached the USD 4 trillion-milestone for the first time ever on Wednesday.  Meanwhile, the market capitalisation of listed companies on the NSE has surpassed the USD 4 trillion (Rs 334.72 trillion) mark for the first time ever on Friday.  "The BJP's resounding victory in three of the four major state elections will further strengthen the market's bullish sentiment. The BJP significantly outperformed pre-poll and exit-poll expectations, which will further strengthen the prospects of the BJP retaining its majority in the Lok Sabha and the market's conviction of the BJP winning the 2024 general elections."  "We expect election-linked market volatility to remain low, which may result in the market trading at rich valuations in the near term," Kotak Institutional Equities said in a research note.  Domestic equity markets are expected to take cues from global trends, trading activity of foreign investors, and RBI's interest rate decision to be announced later this week, analysts said.

Investors wealth rises by Rs 4.97 lakh crore in morning deals as markets rally

Mumbai: In a remarkable surge, both the Sensex and Nifty achieved unprecedented highs on Friday, propelled by a robust rally in IT stocks. The BSE Sensex soared by 999.78 points, setting a fresh record at 72,720.96 during the late trading hours, while the Nifty reached a new pinnacle of 21,928.25, marking a climb of 281.05 points.  Infosys, a prominent player among Sensex firms, witnessed an impressive 8% surge following its December quarter earnings meeting market expectations. Tata Consultancy Services also rose nearly 4%, reporting an 8.2% growth in net income for the same period. Other noteworthy gainers included Tech Mahindra, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and State Bank of India.  However, Power Grid, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement, and HDFC Bank lagged behind. The BSE Information Technology index saw the most substantial gain at 4.99%, with Teck also rising over 4%.  Commenting on the market dynamics, VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, stated that despite the absence of a positive message in the management commentary, IT stocks were likely to respond positively to the inline results from Infosys and the better-than-expected results from TCS.  On the foreign investment front, data revealed that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 865 crore on Thursday. Despite this, the BSE benchmark settled at 71,721.18 with a marginal climb of 0.09%, while the Nifty closed at 21,647.20, gaining 0.13%.
