Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday issued a bailable warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira Banerjee in connection with a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate for allegedly refusing to join the probe in a money laundering case linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal.Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria passed the order on the ED's plea after the agency's special public prosecutor Nitesh Rana told the court that the accused was not appearing before either the court or the probe agency despite several summons issued against her.The court posted the matter for August 20.The ED lodged a case under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act on the basis of a November 2020 FIR registered by the CBI that alleged a multi-crore coal pilferage scam related to the Eastern Coalfields Ltd mines in the state's Kunustoria and Kajora areas in and around Asansol.Local coal operative Anup Majhi, alias Lala, is alleged to be the prime suspect in the case.The ED had earlier claimed that Abhishek Banerjee was a beneficiary of funds obtained from this illegal trade.He has denied all charges—PTI

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh police registered a murder case against ruling YSR Congress MLC Ananta Satya Uday Bhaskar, for allegedly being involved in his former driver's death, but the victim's wife demanded that a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation be ordered to render her justice. Over the last two days, Dalit organisations and the opposition Telugu Desam Party put in sustained pressure calling for the police to arrest the ruling party legislator. The victim's wife Aparna alleged that the police tried to silence her. "I was beaten up by women police to give a statement that my husband died in an accident. They also offered me inducements but I did not budge," Aparna, who is pregnant, said. Expressing doubts over the Kakinada police, she demanded that a CBI investigation be ordered into the case to render justice, even as she asserted that the MLC was responsible for the murder of her husband.Kakinada superintendent of police M Ravindranath Babu did not respond to calls for any clarification. Kakinada sub-divisional police officer V Bhima Rao said he was "busy in a meeting" and did not give any details about the case. After midnight on Thursday, the MLC brought the body of his former driver V Subrahmanyam in his car and handed it over to the victim's family, claiming it was a case of accidental death. The legislator fled the scene when the driver's family members raised a protest and demanded an explanation. The Sarpavaram police initially booked only a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of CrPC, though the victim's family members alleged it was a clear case of murder and pointed fingers at the MLC. The deceased, V Subrahmanyam, had worked as the MLC's car driver for the past five years. On Thursday night, Bhaskar came to Subrahmanyam's residence and took him away. Later, around 2 am he returned to Subrahmanyam's house with the latter's body and handed it over to the family. The legislator claimed the driver died in a road accident but when the family members protested, he fled the scene leaving the car behind. The Sarpavaram police confirmed that there was no trace of any road accident at the spot (Nagamalli Thota Junction) as the MLC had claimed. The victim's kin allowed a post-mortem to be done only after midnight on Saturday when the police finally agreed to add murder charges. Accordingly, a case under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code and also under various provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against Uday Bhaskar alias Babu. State director general of police KV Rajendranath Reddy said they would conduct a thorough investigation into the case once the post-mortem report was submitted. Meanwhile, former MP G V Harsha Kumar alleged that every effort was being made to save the MLC as he was a "benami" of several YSRC top leaders. "The high court should take suo motu cognisance of the case and conduct a detailed inquiry and bring the culprits to book," Harsha Kumar said. TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu spoke to the driver's wife over phone and assured her that his party would stand by her and ensure justice. He wondered why the police so far did not arrest the ruling party legislator."The police actions are giving rise to a lot of suspicions. The incident took old man in Khoni village of Bhiwandi division on Tuesday evening following which the 28-year-old accused, Shankar Waghmare, was arrested, an official from Nizampura police station said. The couple had a fight following which the accused allegedly thrashed his wife Jyotsana Shankar Waghmare with a wooden log. The woman died on the spot, he said. Some neighbours alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the body to a government hospital for postmortem, the official said. The accused was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday and booked under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder), the police said.—PTI

'Nawab Malik's wife Mehjabin was summoned twice whereas his son Faraj Malik was summoned 5 times in connection with a money laundering case. But none of them appeared before the ED,' informed the chargesheet today morning. According to the ED investigation against him in connection with a money laundering case, 'it was revealed that Malik has had links with fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's D-company for a long time'.The ED has filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) before the Special PMLA court in Mumbai.In the prosecution complaint, the ED elaborately mentioned Malik's alleged link to the D-company, and purported conspiracy to 'usurp' the Goawala building compound in Kurla West in 1996.Also, a special court on May 20 took cognisance of the ED's chargesheet against the NCP leader and said there is prima facie evidence to indicate Malik was directly and knowingly involved in the money laundering and criminal conspiracy with others to usurp Goawala compound in Kurla.The court has issued a process against him and the 1993 bomb blast case accused Sardar Shahwali Khan, who is also named in the case.—ANI

Panaji: Police have arrested a pastor and his wife in North Goa for allegedly luring people to convert to Christianity by offering cash to them or promising to cure them of their ailments, a senior official said on Friday. Pastor Domnic D'Souza and his wife Joan were arrested on Thursday night after separate complaints were lodged against them by two persons, who accused them of indulging in religious conversions, the official of Mapusa police station said. Two separate first information reports (FIRs) were filed against the couple, who used to operate from Saligao village in North Goa, around 20 kms away from the state capital, he said. "They were booked for promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion and for indulging in deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, and also under relevant sections of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act," he said.Police had received complaints that the couple was asking people to convert to Christianity by luring them with cash or other promises, including curing them of their long-term illnesses, he said.The accused couple would be presented before a local court on Friday, where police would seek their custody for further investigation, the official added.—PTI

There was a fight between them over the issue again on Tuesday. Saraswati's mother Kalamma, 43, came out in her support. During the heated argument, Krishnaiah attacked her daughter and wife with a stick and then consumed some poisonous substance. He also informed his son over the phone.The son, who rushed to the house from the agriculture field, shifted all the three to a local hospital. As the condition of Saraswati and her mother turned critical, they were being shifted to Hyderabad. However, the duo succumbed on the way. Bengaluru: Slamming Karnataka police for mediocre investigation in connection with the case of a husband who forced his wife to have unnatural sex, the High Court has ordered the cops to investigate the case and submit additional charge sheet. The court directed the police to file additional charge sheet within 2 months and also asked the lower court not to proceed any further with the case.The High Court has slammed the police department for investigating only dowry charges. The wife had filed complaint against her husband for forcing unnatural sex and sending obscene pictures to her father.The bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna gave the order on Tuesday. The bench took up the petition of the accused husband who appealed to the court to quash the dowry proceedings against him. The wife had also submitted a petition alleging that her complaint had not been investigated properly and sought direction for the police in this regard. The accused from Bengaluru and the victim wife from Chhattisgarh fell in love while studying in IIT Bombay in 2013. They got married in 2015 while pursuing PhD. They stayed in Bengaluru after marriage. Soon after the wife complained that her husband forced to have unnatural sex and went to her parents' house in Chattisgarh. She came back after accused assured her not to repeat the mistake. However, her husband did not mend his ways and was back to his old habits. Then, she once again went to her parents house in 2016. She alleged that during this time, the accused sent private photos and vidoes to her father and threatened that he would make them viral.He also sent photos to friends of her father. Following this, the victim lodged complaint in Chhattisgarh. Raipur police lodged complaint under IPC Sections 498A (dowry), 377 (unnatural sex), Section 66(E), 67 of IT Act. Later, they transferred the case to Viveknagar police station in Bengaluru, which investigated only the dowry charges against the accused and submitted a charge sheet.The court which took up petitions in connection with the case, said that Bengaluru police who investigated the case have dropped punishable charges under IPC Section 377 and IT Act from the complaint filed by the victim and registered by Chhattisgarh police. The court also noted that the charge sheet submitted by the Bengaluru police does not mention reports regarding mobile phone of victim's father which was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. The investigation officer has not confiscated the phone of the accused husband to investigate Sections 66(E) and 67 of the IT Act. This shows the mediocre investigation by the police, the bench said.—IANS

New Delhi: A Meghalaya government’s initiative to swiftly implement various development projects has got international recognition with a Geneva-based organisation honouring state Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for the project.The Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA) project, being implemented by the planning department of the Meghalaya government, was recognised by the United Nation’s World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2022, a press release said.The MeghEA was adjudged the best project in the category of ‘the role of governments in the promotion of ICTs for development’. Chief Minister Sangma received the honour at an event held in Geneva.The project has several components such as ‘government to citizen or business services’, ‘government to employee services’ and ‘government to government services.“Was honoured to receive on behalf of Meghalaya, the @WSISprocess Award by the @UN for the Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA)- India’s 1st Enterprise Architecture Initiative at Geneva, Switzerland yesterday,” Sangma tweeted.He said the MeghEA has benefitted departments in sanctioning and administrative approvals of schemes in a matter of days which earlier took months.“I congratulate Team Meghalaya for ensuring the implementation of this project,” the chief minister said in another tweet. The e-proposal system, part of the government-to-government component, enables faster processing and tracking of schemes. The system transforms the entire administrative approvals and sanctions of citizens’ schemes through the use of modern technology. It integrates multiple departments, directorates and other government agencies, the release said.In merely two months, close to 1,600 proposals have been submitted through this e-Proposal system and an amount of Rs 790 crores have been sanctioned. Aurangabad: A man here in Maharashtra allegedly killed his 50-year-old wife after being suspicious about her character, police said on Sunday.The victim was found dead on Sunday morning in her house which was locked from outside in Rahul Nagar area of Aurangabad city.The woman's husband doubted her character and he allegedly hit on her head with a heavy utensil. The man then locked the house from outside and fled, an official from Satara police station told PTI.In the morning, when the woman's daughter came to her place to go along with her for work, she found the house locked. The woman was also not found at her workplace.The victim's daughter called up a relative, who later broke the lock of the house and found the woman lying dead inside, the official said.In another incident, the partially charred body of a man, aged 30-35 years, was found in Himayat Baugh area of the city. The police control room got a call at around 1.30 am on Sunday from a person who spotted the body, an official from Begumpura police station said.A police team subsequently reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem, the official added.—PTI

In the order passed on Saturday, sessions judge (Kalyan) Shoukat Gorwade also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the accused - Shantosh Shelke.Additional public prosecutor Sachin Kulkarni told the court that on April 30, 2018, the accused, hailing from Bhirwadi village in Sahapur taluka of Thane, allegedly strangulated to death his wife, then aged 40, as he suspected that she was in a relationship with another man.She had gone for work earlier that day and did not return home. She was later found dead at a spot in the village, with a saree wrapped her neck and mouth gagged.The judge said the prosecution has proved all charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.Based on circumstantial evidence, the court convicted the accused and pronounced the punishment, the prosecutor said.—PTI

The couple have a five-year-old son.The accused Major is posted with the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers at 510 Army Base in Meerut, Chandrakant Meena,&nbsp;Meerut Additional Superintendent of Police, said that orders have been issued to book the accused for domestic abuse and press dowry harassment charges as well.D.S. Rawat, Station House Officer at Sadar Bazaar police station, Meerut, said that an FIR has already been lodged in the matter.&nbsp;He, however, refused to divulge the IPC sections under which the accused has been booked. Thiruvananthapuram:&nbsp;In a shocking incident, a man in Kerala's Kasargod on Saturday doused kerosene on his wife and set her on fire on suspicion that she was having an affair, leaving her seriously injured, police said.Pramod, an auto-rickshaw driver, suspected his wife Minisha and arrived at the medical store where she was working around 2.30 p.m. As there was no one else in the shop, he threw kerosene on her and set her afire, but she dodged him and ran out of the shop, crying for help.Pramod tried to escape, but the locals, who had gathered hearing the cries of Minisha, overpowered him and handed him over to the police. Rajkot (Gujarat): A day after getting married on August 15, a man named Kamlesh Chavda was stabbed to death by his wife's paramour, police said on Wednesday.
Rajkot rural police registered a murder case against the attacker, identified as Yashwant Makwana, who is on the run. Sections of the Atrocity Act have also been added, said Deputy Superintendent of Police P.A. Zala.
Kamlesh Chavda's brother, Vinod Chavda in his complaint with the Atkot police station stated, "This was the second marriage of my brother Kamlesh. From his earlier marriage he has a five-year-old daughter. He divorced his first wife after falling in love with Komal. But Komal was at the same time dating Yashwant Makwana. She was living with Makwana and just two months before the marriage, Komal returned to her parental home."
After both sides' approval, Kamlesh Chavda and Komal got married on August 15.
When Makwana learned about the marriage, he walked into the complainant's house on August 16 night and stabbed the victim with a knife. Hearing the commotion, the family members tried to stop the accused who ran away. Kamlesh was rushed to a private hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.&nbsp;

New Delhi: A Nepalese national, who had been on the run after committing brutal murder by beheading and chopping of the private parts of his wife's lover in 2018, was arrested by the Delhi Police when he came to India for shopping.
The police had declared a reward of Rs two lakh on his head.
The accused, identified as Man Kumar (37), came to Jogbani Bazar in Bihar's Araria for shopping when he was held following a tip off by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police on August 16. His aide was earlier arrested by the police.&nbsp;
In 2018 the police got a PCR call about a body which was lying near a cemetery in Green Park Extension. When a police team reached the spot they were shocked to see that the body was dismantled and the head and private parts were left hanging from a tree.
The deceased was later identified as Nanda Pramanik, a resident of West Bengal. A case of murder was lodged with the Safdarjung Police Station and one Ravi Kanojia was held by the police. The main accused Kumar was on the run since the beginning.
The police had filed the charge sheet in the case. The police said that the accused Kumar had fled to Nepal after committing the murder.
"Man Kumar said that he had been living in the Safdarjung area since his childhood. In 2018 he came to know that his wife had an illegal relation with Pramanik at her work place. Pramanik also used to work there.
Kumar spoke with Pramanik and asked him to stay away from his wife. Pramanik however, didn't budge.
Kumar then hatched a conspiracy with his friend Kanojia to kill Pramanik. They called the deceased to have liquor.
"When Pramanik was in an inebriated condition they tied his hands. The accused then cut off his private part and later chopped his head. This incident had sent a panic wave in the area," the police said.&nbsp;

Bengaluru: A man has been arrested in Bengaluru for killing his wife and trying to cover it up by lodging a missing complaint, police said on Thursday.
The arrested person is identified as 30-year-old Pruthviraj from Bihar and the police are also on the lookout for his accomplice Sameer Kumar.
According to the police, the accused first came to Bengaluru 10 years ago from Bihar and worked as an electronic materials dealer.
He and wife were married in 2021.
During the marriage, her parents had maintained that she was 28 years old, but after a few days, Pruthviraj found out that she was 10 years older than him.
The couple had constant arguments regarding this issue.
Meanwhile, the victim had also started preparing for UPSC for which she had to travel to Delhi. She was also questioned by her husband regarding her chats with her friend on the phone.
He took her on tour to Malpe beach in Udupi district and had booked a Zoom car which was driven by his accomplice.
Although he made an attempt to kill her in a hotel room and then near the beach, he could not.
However, the accused executed his plan while returning to Bengaluru on August 2. He strangled her to death with her dupatta in the car.
Later, he dumped her body in the forest area and returned home.
He approached the police saying that his wife was missing and lodged a complaint.
The police got suspicious as he changed his version many times.
He confessed to killing her after being grilled by the police.
