The bus passengers were returning after offering prayers in Vrindavan.Police said the front portion of the bus was completely damaged in the accident and the devotees sitting in the front suffered serious injuries. The deceased were identified as Manak Chandra (55), resident of Ram Nagar, Shahdara, Subhash Chandra Sharma (60) , resident of Mansarovar Park, Shahdara, and Harpal Singh, resident of Gubari, district Hathras. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals where the condition of six was stated to be critical, police said, adding the bodies have been sent for postmortem.—PTI

Those killed were identified as Sachin Pal (16), Mukesh Pal (35), Lalaram Paswan (26), Shiv Sagar (18), Ravi Paswan (19), Pintu Gupta (25) and driver Gaurav Maurya (22), police said.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure best treatment for the injured.—PTI

The incident took place late Saturday night near Ghinoda village under Khachrod police station limits, they said. The truck was carrying more than 20 bovine animals. Some people saw the vehicle, which was without the driver, up in flames and tried to douse the blaze, but five cows and eight calves died by that time, Khachrod police station in-charge Ravindra Yadav said. The villagers claimed that 10-15 cows saved by them from the truck ran away into a nearby forest, he said. Five cows saved from the truck were sent to a shelter, he said. A search was on for the vehicle's owner, driver and helper to get details about the incident, he said.—PTI

The bus carrying 16 people from Karnataka was going to Ayodhya when the incident occurred at Naniha market in the Motipur area as it entered the opposite lane, additional superintendent of police, Ashok Kumar. While five, including the bus driver, died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, the police officer said, adding nine people were seriously injured and were hospitalised.The victims were identified after one of the injured passengers, Bhoomika (16), connected the police officials with the family members through a video call and by sharing photos. The deceased have been identified as Shiv Kumar Pujari (28), Jagdamba (52), Manmat (36), Anil (30), Santosh (35), Shashikala (38) and Saraswati (47) -- all residents of Gandhiganj in Karnataka's Bidar district, police said.The truck driver managed to flee after the incident. A probe into the matter was on, the ASP said.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the deaths and directed the officers concerned to ensure the injured get good medical treatment.—PTI

The accident took place at Laljuri when the metal bridge collapsed as it could not bear the load of the goods vehicle, a senior officer said.The driver of the truck and two labourers were killed on the spot and four of the injured were admitted to Dharmanagar District Hospital and four others were undergoing treatment in a local health facility, he said.Another injured person had a minor injury and was given first-aid.The bridge was old and could not bear load of the vehicle , Additional SP Jermia Darlong told PTI.The truck was going from Kanchanpur to Laljuri.Sub-Divisional Magistrate Subhash Acharjee and Kanchanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Krishnadhan Das rushed to the spot.—PTI

A police team reached the spot immediately after learning about the accident, Sharma said.While Bhagwati Prasad Singhal (51) and Ashok Bansal (44) died on the spot, Vidyadevi (60) died at hospital during treatment, the police officer said.The truck driver fled from the spot, Sharma said, adding that the truck has been seized.An FIR for rash and negligent driving has been registered against the unidentified truck driver and search is on for him, he said.—PTI

Dhaka: The appeal and death references of smuggling 10 trucks loaded with weapons at the Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Ltd. (CUFL) jetty for the separatist group, United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), have now been scheduled for hearing on October 18, said the Bangladesh High Court bench of Justices Shahidul Karim and Fatima Najib.The Supreme Court and the High Court bench of Bangladesh have fixed a date for hearing of death reference and appeal in a case on smuggling 10 trucks loaded with weapons in CUFL jetty in Chittagong.The 10 trucks full of weapons were seized in April 2, 2004, despite suspected efforts of certain "influential quarters" for their safe passage to ULFA in the presence of its military wing chief Paresh Barua during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-Jamaat coalition government.As many as 13 others, including Jamaat chief and the then Bangladesh Industries Minister Matiur Rahman Nizami and the then State Home Minister Lutfozzaman Babar, have been sentenced to death for smuggling the 10 trucks.The trucks were seized at the jetty of the CUFL near the Karnaphuli river while weapons were being loaded on them for delivery to ULFA.As many as 4,930 sophisticated firearms of different types, 840 rocket launchers, 300 rockets, 27,020 grenades, 2,000 grenade-launching tubes, 6,392 magazines and 11.41 million bullets were recovered.A special court in Chittagong handed the death sentence to Tareq Rahman, son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Matiur Rahman Nizami, Jamaat top leader Ali Ahsan Muzahid, Lutfuzzaman Babar and the then chief of the two intelligence agencies, Brigadier General (retd) Abdur Rahim and Major General (retd) Rezzakul Haidar Chy.The court will also announce its verdict on Bangladesh Nationalist Party de facto chief Tarique Rahman, staying in London for more than a decade to evade punishment after conviction for his involvement in the August 24, 2004, grenade attack on Chief Minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the latter injured and killing 30 Bangladesh Awami League leaders and activists.Tareq Zia and Lutfuz Zaman Babar, the paid agents of Inter-Services Intelligence, are appealing against the death sentence in both cases.Tareq met with 'D' company in Dubai, before the grenade attack on Hasina, said close associates of Tareq to IANS requesting anonymity.Following the upcoming election in 2023, the opposition BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami have been embroiled in fresh controversy.Officials familiar with the investigation said their extended probe found Chinese firm NORINCO to have produced the alleged seized weapons.The ship of QC Shipping that carried the illegal consignment to Bangladeshi territory is owned by Pakistan paid BNP leader and war criminal Salauddin Quader Choudhry.On October 1, 2013, S.Q. Two of the convicted, Jamaat Islami Chief (Amir), Matiur Rahman Nizami.
