He was briefed regarding the impact of high temperatures in the months of March-April 2022 on Crop production. The status of procurement and export of wheat were reviewed.&nbsp;In the light of increasing demand for agricultural products of India, the Prime Minister directed that all steps be taken to ensure quality norms and standards so that India evolves into an assured source of food grain and other agricultural products. He also asked officials to ensure maximum help to farmers. PM was also briefed regarding prevailing market rates which are beneficial to farmers.&nbsp;The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to PM, Advisors, Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of Department of Food and PDS and Agriculture.

During the day, it tumbled 845.55 points to 53,519.30.Similarly, the NSE Nifty slipped 72.95 points or 0.45 per cent to settle at 16,167.10.Larsen &amp; Toubro was the top laggard in the Sensex pack, tumbling 2.34 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, PowerGrid, NTPC, Infosys, Maruti and ITC.In contrast, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were among the gainers, jumping up to 1.92 per cent."Investors continue to remain wary despite global markets trading in green due to drop in domestic investors confidence and FII selling."The market turned volatile waiting for the release of April US inflation data, which is expected to cool down marginally."Inflation will continue to be elevated but the chance of major reactions is low because it has been factored in by the markets."The major determinant for market direction would be the pace of decline in inflation in response to the Fed measures," said Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Financial Services.In the broader market, the BSE smallcap gauge tumbled 2.23 per cent while the midcap index dipped 0.46 per cent.Among BSE sectoral indices, capital goods tanked 1.63 per cent, followed by IT (1.50 per cent), industrials (1.39 per cent), telecom (1.22 per cent) and teck (1.07 per cent). Realty, bank and finance were the gainers.Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai ended with gains, while Seoul settled marginally lower.Equity markets in Europe were quoting higher in the afternoon session."On the global front, Asian markets were divided, while European markets were higher ahead of the release of US inflation data, which may provide a clue as to how aggressively the Federal Reserve would hike interest rates," said Mohit Nigam, Head - PMS, Hem Securities.Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude jumped 3.12 per cent to USD 105.7 per barrel.The rupee appreciated further by 10 paise to settle at 77.24 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday as the American currency retreated from its 20-year high levels.Continuing their selling spree, foreign institutional investors offloaded shares worth a net Rs 3,960.59 crore on Tuesday, according to stock exchange data.—PTI

Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State, for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, graced the occasion. Shri Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Shri Upamanyu Basu, JS were present.Shri Rupala highlighted the significance of the report for the upgradation of the livestock and stressed on its utility for the policy makers and researchers. The breed-wise data collection was done along with 20th&nbsp;Livestock Census during the year 2019.&nbsp;It was for the first time in the country that breed wise data was collected by using tablet computers instead of paper mode which is indeed a unique attempt.&nbsp;The livestock as well as poultry birds were counted according to their breeds as recognized by National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR).&nbsp;Considering the importance of Livestock Sector, it becomes essential for the policy maker and researcher to ascertain the various breeds of livestock species so that the livestock species can be genetically upgraded for optimum achievement for its product and also for other purposes.&nbsp;<img src="https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteReadData/userfiles/image/58111XRZQ.jpeg">&nbsp;The major highlights of Breed-wise Report of Livestock and Poultry are summarised below:<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">The report has covered 184 recognized indigenous/exotic &amp; crossbred breeds of&nbsp;19 selected species that are registered by the NBAGR (National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources).</li><li class="ql-align-justify">There are 41 recognized indigenous whereas 4 exotic/crossbred breeds of cattle covered in this report.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">As per the report, the Exotic and Crossbred animal contribute nearly 26.5% of the total cattle population whereas 73.5% are Indigenous and Non-descript cattle.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Crossbred Jersey has the highest share with 49.3% as compared to 39.3% of Crossbred Holstein Friesian (HF) in total Exotic/Crossbred cattle.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Gir, Lakhimi and Sahiwal breeds have major contribution in total Indigenous Cattle.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">In Buffalo, the Murrah breed majorly contributes with 42.8% which is commonly found in UP and Rajasthan.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">In Sheep, there are 3 exotics and 26 indigenous breeds were found in the country. Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has launched a Rs 8.5 crore community-based structured breeding programme for the genetic improvement of indigenous sheep and to double the production of wool, Animal Husbandry Minister Virender Kanwar said on Sunday. The state government has imported 240 Merino sheep, 40 males and 200 females, with an outlay of Rs 6 crore under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) so that superior exotic germplasm could be infused to achieve the target of 3,000 tons quality wool production by next five years.The state has recorded wool production of around 1,482 tons in 2020-21. Chamba is the top wool producing district with annual production of around 425 tons, followed by Kullu and Shimla, which recorded 249 tons and 196 tons, respectively. The average wool production in the state is about 1,599 grams per sheep every year. State-run State Cooperative Wool Procurement and Marketing Federation Ltd (Woolfed) has a modernised plant for wool scouring in Banuri in Palampur where around 11,500 kg wool was processed in 2020-2021, said Kanwar. The state has two popular breeds of sheep -- the Rampur Bushairi and Gaddi -- popular for producing high-quality carpet wool.The Rampur Bushairi breed is reared in Shimla district, while Gaddi is reared in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts. The state has 7,91,345 sheep that produce coarse carpet quality wool.The minister said the breeding programme would help improve the wool quality. Also wool of 21-22 microns, suitable for apparel production, would be produced. It will be on a par with world's premium quality fabrics produced in Australia and New Zealand. Himachal Pradesh is the sixth largest producer of wool in the country, contributing four per cent to the country's total wool production.The Merino sheep, a Spanish breed prized for its soft, fine, and lustrous fiber, is being reared at government breeding farms in Nagwain in Mandi district where facilities have been strengthened with a cost of Rs 2 crore to meet requirements of the imported livestock. The sheep have well acclimated to the climate of the state and have produced 800 healthy lambs through artificial insemination. ICAR-Central Sheep &amp; Wool Research Institute has set up a wool testing laboratory in Kullu to confirm its quality and for facilitating wool producers, added Kanwar.—IANS

Bengaluru: &nbsp;Infosys Limited, India's second-largest IT services company, on Sunday said it has reappointed Salil Parekh as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) for a five-year term ending March 2027. The decision was taken in the meeting of the company's Board of Directors held on May 21, 2022. The board took the decision based on the recommendations of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) of the company, Infosys Limited said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.Salil Parekh has been the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys since January 2018. His reappointment is subject to the approval of shareholders. "It may be noted that Salil Parekh has no relationship with any member of the Board of directors and meets all the criteria to be reappointed as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director under applicable laws including circulars issued by stock exchanges from time to time," Infosys said.Mr Parekh has more than thirty years of global experience in the IT services industry with a strong track record of driving digital transformation for enterprises, executing business turnarounds, and managing successful acquisitions, it said. Before his appointment to Infosys, Mr Parekh was a member of the Group Executive Board at Capgemini, where he held several leadership positions for 25 years. He also served as a Partner at Ernst &amp; Young and is widely credited for bringing scale and value to the Indian operations of the consultancy firm.Infosys board of directors has also approved a grant of 104,000 shares to six key management personnel and another 375,760 shares to 88 other senior executives. These Performance Stock Units will be granted under the Infosys Expanded Stock Ownership Plan 2019, and will vest over 3 years on the achievement of certain milestones, in line with the plan approved by shareholders. The date of the grant for these stock units shall be June 1, 2022, Infosys informed the stock exchanges.—PTI

New Delhi: Equity indices frittered away a good start to close with modest losses on Monday, pressured by heavy selling in metal stocks after the government imposed export duties on steel-making raw materials to curb soaring prices. The 30-share BSE Sensex opened strong and gained momentum as the session progressed, but came under severe selling pressure in afternoon trade to close 37.78 points or 0.07 per cent lower at 54,288.61.On similar lines, the broader NSE Nifty slipped 51.45 points or 0.32 per cent to end at 16,214.70. Metal stocks took a knock after the government on Saturday hiked the tax on export of iron ores and concentrates to 50 per cent, and imposed a duty of 45 per cent on iron pellets in a bid to increase their domestic availability and curb soaring steel prices. Tata Steel was the biggest loser in the Sensex pack, plummeting 12.53 per cent, followed by UltraTech Cement, ITC, PowerGrid, HDFC, HDFC Bank, HCL Tech and Reliance Industries.In contrast, M&amp;M, Maruti, HUL, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Asian Paints, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Wipro were among the gainers, climbing as much as 4.14 per cent."Nifty once again gave up the intra day gains and ended in the negative."Metals stocks sold off post the levy of export duties over the weekend on iron ore and some steel intermediates," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities."After a firm start, markets failed to hold on to their early upsurge and simply lost track to end marginally lower. During the day, it hit a low of 53,886.28 and a high of 54,524.37. At 9.57 a.m., Sensex was 148 points down to 55,418, whereas Nifty 34 points down to 16,550.Stocks in other Asian countries were steady on Wednesday, while bond yields extended their advances amid a debate about how aggressive monetary tightening will need to be to fight inflation, said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC securities. “A clear trend is unlikely to emerge in the market in the near-term. At lower levels DIIs and retail investors will buy, pushing the market up; at higher levels FPIs will sell, pushing the market down,” said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. Investors can follow a cautious investment strategy in this uncertain context by buying high quality stocks which will benefit from growth recovery, he said, adding that leading financials, IT, cement, telecom and segments of autos appear sound investment bets.—IANS

New Delhi: Snapping two straight sessions of losses, domestic equity benchmark indices settled in the green on Thursday. Gains were led by upmove in Nifty oil &amp; gas, IT, metal, and media stocks. Also, a decline in global crude oil prices ahead of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) meeting also somewhat gave fuel to the market sentiments.Among the Nifty 50 stocks, Reliance Industries was the top gainer, rising 3.6 per cent from the previous close.On Thursday, sensex closed at 55,818 points, up 437 points or 0.8 per cent, whereas Nifty closed at 16,628 points, up 105 points or 0.6 per cent. "Nifty is expected to remain in a range while Bank Nifty may outperform. Traders are advised to apply a buy on decline strategy at the support zones. At current juncture, we are advising to be with selective stocks and one can look for buying opportunity in stocks like Reliance, Bajaj Finance, Voltas and HAL," said Chandan Taparia, Vice President, Equity Derivatives and Technical, Broking &amp; Distribution at Motilal Oswal Financial Services.According to Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services: "The bounce in the market is showing signs of getting extended further supported by a mid and small-cap. High-frequency data like GST collection and PMI have shown a good start to FY23." Crude prices have declined providing an edge to the performance of the Indian market, said Nair, adding that, however, a lot will depend on the central bank's policy in India and the US, which will be announced in the next two weeks.—IANS

The bottom line is the world’s governments still have no framework for working together to end the expansion of fossil fuel production and that’s why we need a Fossil Fuel Treaty.”Governments around the world are still approving plans to produce twice as much oil, gas and coal than can be burned for a livable planet, taking us far off track to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. India’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault signed the MoU to increase bilateral cooperation on climate action, environmental protection and conservation. The signing was made possible thanks to an earlier meeting between the two ministers at COP26 in 2021.Under the MoU, both countries have agreed to collaborate, exchange information and expertise, and support the respective ambition in a wide range of areas, including increasing renewable energy capacity, decarbonizing heavy industries, reducing plastic pollution, supporting the sound management of chemicals, and ensuring sustainable consumption. Bajaj Finserv Ltd, Asian Paints, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Hindustan Unilever were among the major Sensex losers. None of the 30 scrips that are part of the Sensex closed in the positive. Bajaj Electricals fell 2.20 per cent to Rs 941.85. Amber Enterprises India slipped 1.94 per cent to Rs 2440.75. Realty stocks were under selling pressure. Lodha Group fell 2.18 per cent to Rs 1047.95. Godrej Properties Limited slipped 1.98 per cent to Rs 1337.45. Brigade Group closed 1.76 per cent down at Rs 452.60. The index heavyweight DLF was down by 1.71 per cent down at Rs 321.30. Only four out of the 30 stocks that are part of the benchmark Sensex closed in the positive. Washington: In the 21st century, mangrove forests around the world have experienced changes in ocean surface temperature, salinity, and density, according to recent research by Dr. Tom Van der Stocken of the VUB Biology Department.In the Indo-West Pacific, the main hotspot of mangrove diversity, the study revealed that changes in surface-ocean density may have an impact on the dispersal patterns of globally distributed mangrove species.The findings of the research were published in Nature Climate Change."Climate change affects sea-surface density via changes in temperature and salinity. Since propagules of widely distributed mangroves species have densities near that of seawater, changes in ocean density hold implications for oceanic dispersal of mangroves. Whether mangrove propagules float or sink depends on the difference between the densities of the propagules and that of the surrounding water." says Tom Van der Stocken, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Scholar at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and research affiliate at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. "It is expected that warming winter temperatures and sea level rise will impact the distribution of these carbon-rich forests, but changes in surface-ocean properties might also influence distributional patterns through dispersal."Mangroves are highly productive intertidal forests that occur along tropical, subtropical, and some temperate coasts. They support a broad variety of ecosystem goods and services and have an important place on the international climate mitigation and adaptation agenda. However, at the same time, these intertidal forests are strongly impacted by human activities and subjected to climate-driven changes in the marine, terrestrial and atmospheric processes to which they are tightly linked. While previous studies have focused on the potential impact of sea-level rise, altered precipitation regimes, and increasing temperature and storm frequency on mangrove ecosystems, the potential effects of climate-driven changes in seawater properties had not been considered. Van der Stocken: "This is surprising, as the ocean is the primary dispersal medium of this 'sea-faring' coastal vegetation and dispersal is a key process that governs a species' response to climate change by changing its geographical range."The paper, "Mangrove dispersal disrupted by projected changes in global seawater density", is co-authored by VUB professors Bram Vanschoenwinkel and Nico Koedam, and in collaboration with the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The team made use of present and future sea-surface temperature and salinity data from the Bio-ORACLE database developed at Ghent University, and derived sea-surface density estimates from these data using the UNESCO EOS-80 equation of state polynomial for seawater."Our study provides evidence that the density of surface-ocean waters along mangrove forests will decrease by the end of the 21st century, and a factor of two larger in the Indo-West Pacific region than in the Atlantic East Pacific," says Koedam."It is important to note that our study uses present and future environmental conditions based on monthly averages and that the actual variability in sea-surface density around these mean values could be higher than that predicted in this study," adds Vanschoenwinkel.Van der Stocken: "There is still uncertainty on exactly how the projected changes in seawater density will impact realized mangrove dispersal in different parts of the world and more research is needed regarding the biological response of mangroves to climate-driven changes in surface-water properties. New Delhi:&nbsp;Capital markets regulator Sebi has notified a framework for the social stock exchange to provide social enterprises with an additional avenue to raise funds.The framework for the Social Stock Exchange (SSE) has been developed on the basis of the recommendations of a working group and technical group constituted by the regulator.The social stock exchange is a novel concept in India and such a bourse is meant to serve the private and non-profit sectors by channelling greater capital to them. The idea of SSE was first floated by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget Speech 2019-20.Under the new rules, SSE will be a separate segment of the existing stock exchanges, according to the three separate notifications issued by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Monday.Social enterprises (SEs) eligible to participate in the SSE will be entities -- non-profit organisations (NPOs) and for-profit social enterprises -- having social intent and impact as their primary goal. Also, such an intent should be demonstrated through its focus on eligible social objectives for the underserved or less privileged populations or regions.The social enterprises will have to engage in a social activity out of 16 broad activities listed by the regulator. The eligible activities include eradicating hunger, poverty, malnutrition and inequality; promoting healthcare, supporting education, employability and livelihoods; gender equality empowerment of women and LGBTQIA+ communities; and supporting incubators of social enterprise.Corporate foundations, political or religious organisations or activities, professional or trade associations, infrastructure and housing companies, except affordable housing, will not be eligible to be identified as a social enterprise.Concerning fund raising, Sebi said eligible NPOs can raise funds through zero-coupon zero principal bonds and mutual funds, while for-profit social enterprises can mobilise capital through the issuance of equity shares on the main board, SME platform or equity shares issued to an alternative investment fund, including social impact fund.NPOs desirous of raising funds on the SSE will be required to be registered with the exchange.In respect of disclosures, a social enterprise, raising funds or registered on SSE, will be required to submit an "annual impact report" to such a bourse. The annual impact report will be audited by a social audit firm employing a social auditor.Also, social venture funds under Sebi's alternative investment funds norms have been rechristened as social impact funds in a bid to make such funds an attractive means for investment in NPOs. Further, the corpus requirements for such funds have been reduced from Rs 20 crore to Rs 5 crore and the minimum value of the investment by an individual investor in such funds will be Rs 2 lakh.The amount of grant that may be accepted by the fund from any person has been reduced to Rs 10 lakh from Rs 25 lakh."A social impact fund or schemes of a social impact fund launched exclusively for an NPO registered or listed on an SSE shall be permitted to deploy or invest 100 per cent of the investable funds in the securities of NPOS registered or listed on an SSE," Sebi said.The notifications came after the board of Sebi approved a framework in this regard in September 2021.To give these effects, the regulator has amended rules governing alternative investment funds, ICDR (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) rules and LODR (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) norms.—PTI

A woman died and about 30 houses were destroyed in the cloud burst incident in the Lasko river flowing close to the India and Nepal border at midnight in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.
Due to the flood in the Kali river in Dharchula last night, there has been a lot of damage in Dharchula and its adjoining areas. Many houses have been washed away, and some houses are severally affected due to floods.
A building also collapsed and got submerged in water owing to a strong current in the river.
The DM said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams are engaged in the relief work on the spot.
The damage caused by the floods in the Kali river has occurred in the villages of both India and Nepal.

The share sale is set to be Germany's second-largest ever initial public offering (IPO), the report said. "We are now in the home stretch with the IPO plans for Porsche and welcome the commitment of our cornerstone investors," said VW's Chief Financial Officer, Arno Antlitz. VW said that it will price preferred shares in the flotation of Porsche at 76.50 to 82.50 euro per share, which would give the sportscar maker a stock market valuation of 70-75 billion euro. At the upper end of the range it would be Europe's third-largest IPO on record, BBC reported. However, the figures announced on Sunday fell short of an earlier valuation target - as much as 85 billion euro - amid investor concerns over rising interest rates and a potential global recession. VW said it will raise as much as 9.4 billion euro from the share sale, which will help pay for its shift to electric vehicles and spending on software development. If the IPO goes ahead, VW said it will hold a meeting for investors in December when it plans to propose distributing a special dividend - 49 per cent of the total gross proceeds - from the share sale to shareholders. The deal comes even as relatively few companies have listed shares in Europe this year as the region faces an energy crisis, high inflation and rate hikes, BBC reported. New York: US stocks fell sharply on Friday as investors continued to worry about even more rate hikes from the Federal Reserve that could land the US economy in a recession, the media reported.
The Dow was down 289 points, or 1 per cent, at the market open. The S&amp;P 500 fell 1.1 per cent and The Nasdaq composite was 1.1 per cent lower, CNN reported.
The Dow opened below 30,000 points, a level it briefly breached Thursday. If the Dow ends the day below 30,000, it would be the first time it closed below that barrier since June 17. And a somewhat more sizable plunge could land the index at on a two-year low on Friday.
Investors do not have many places to make money at the moment: In addition to sinking stocks, the bond market is also selling off, sending US Treasury yields soaring to 11-year highs in recent days.
The 10-year yield fell back a bit on Friday but remains near 3.7 per cent, and the 2-year yield is above 4.1 per cent.
That's a much better return than you can get with stocks these days, so high bond yields are adding pressure on the stock market, CNN reported.
Wall Street also remains concerned that the Fed's rate hiking plan could continue to increase borrowing costs, hurting the corporate profits that support their stock prices.
And if the Fed is serious about slowing the economy down to gain control of runaway inflation, a recession could cause some real pain for consumers who buy the products that publicly traded companies make.
There's much to worry about on Wall Street. CNN Business' Fear and Greed Index has fallen solidly into "Fear" mode in recent days and is nearing "Extreme Fear". Investors don't see much to smile about on the horizon.&nbsp;
