Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh plans to set up three new women shelters and children's homes in three districts of the state, an official said on Tuesday.According to the government spokesman, the government has planned to set up new women shelters with a capacity of 100 beds each in Ghazipur, Moradabad and Ghaziabad districts at a cost of Rs 20.21 crore.Besides, a government children's home with a capacity of 50 beds in Agra, and state observation homes, with a capacity of 100 beds, will also be constructed in Rae Bareli, Kanpur, Mirzapur, and Chitrakoot.On behalf of the Department of Women and Child Development, a proposal was sent to the government to build new children's homes and shelters, on which the government has given its approval.Women and Child Department Deputy Director, Brijendra Singh Niranjan, said: "The problem of capacity would be solved by the construction of new children's homes, women shelters and government observation homes in the state."He said that it is their responsibility to provide shelter with better facilities to orphan children and make them responsible and self-dependent.&nbsp;—IANS

Wade case and several states immediately outlawed abortions in the US. The users can also turn off Google's location data altogether. Facebook and Instagram are also removing posts from users who offered abortion pills via mail posts.Following the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade case, social media users started shared posts offering to mail abortion pills to people whose access to abortion has been stripped away. Facebook and Instagram immediately removed such posts. Meanwhile, Google said that for Google Fit and Fitbit, it gives users settings and tools to easily access and control their personal data, including the option to change and delete personal information at any time."For example, Fitbit users who have chosen to track their menstrual cycles in the app can currently delete menstruation logs one at a time, and we will be rolling out updates that let users delete multiple logs at once," said the company. —IANS

Chennai: The state revenue department said that as many as 121 multipurpose cyclone shelters and 5,093 relief centres have been readied.It may be noted that Chembarambakkam lake discharged 912 cusecs of water on Saturday and Red Hills reservoir discharged 677 cusecs of water. The administration has advised people living in low-lying areas to move to safer locations.17 monitoring officers have been appointed for Chennai and 43 monitoring officers for other districts to manage any problems due to the heavy rains.Heavy rains are expected on Sunday as the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is likely to move west, north-westwards, and bring heavy rainfall on Sunday in the Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai is also expected to receive heavy rains.The revenue department has also directed the Greater Chennai Corporation and other district administrations to improve flood preparedness to face the next heavy spell of rain in the next three days.National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have already sounded the warning to be on alert to face any eventuality during the next spell of rain.&nbsp;—IANS

Lucknow (The Hawk): Now, the homeless will have a roof to protect them from the winter's chill.
District magistrate Suryapal Gangwar stated that unoccupied government buildings and marriage lawns in the state capital will serve as temporary night shelters, while current night shelters will have their facilities improved.
In addition, provisions such as hot water, blankets, and medical supplies will be made in shelters. He stated that ambulances and other facilities will be made available.
"There are 17 permanent and 7 temporary night shelters in the city, run by charitable organisations and the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC). In the coming days, more shelters will be opened if the temperature lowers further "he continued.
Officers have been tasked with distributing blankets to the needy and ensuring shelters have hot water, restrooms, and other essential amenities.
"This action will enable daily wage workers, the indigent, and the homeless find refuge to endure the cold wave," the district magistrate explained.
The commissioner of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, Indirajit Singh, stated, "We have also issued a helpline number for the Control and Command Centre in order to gather information about night shelters, complaints about the facilities, and requests for medical assistance in the shelters."
Additionally, he stated that the LMC has identified 860 bonfire locations.
Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia remarked, "We want to ensure that nobody sleeps outside. The Adarsh Vyapar Mandal has committed to establishing community kitchens in ten emergency shelters."

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Thursday decided to set up shelters for stray cattle and increase grants allotted to look after the animals.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Secretary S S Sandhu said at the press briefing.
Cow shelters will be built to accommodate stray cattle and the grant per day being given for looking after each of them will be increased from Rs 30 to Rs 80, he said, adding that all facilities will be in place at these shelters, including immunisation, sterilisation and procreation. The cabinet also decided to extend the tenure of the state’s Nazul land policy, which expired on 10.12.2022 for another year in order to order provide families eligible for the PM Awas Yojana 50 square metres of residential land free of cost, Sandhu said.
It further gave its approval to framing rules for the Uttarakhand Bhatkhande Hindustani Music Colleges Subordinate Services to create promotional avenues for accompanists, junior lecturers and lecturers in these institutions established in Dehradun, Pauri and Almora. The cabinet also okayed the transfer of 300 acres of land to the irrigation department to rehabilitate people affected by the Jamrani Dam multi-purpose project. —PTI

New Delhi [India]: Flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday were adversely affected due to a thick layer of fog that enveloped the national capital, affecting visibility. As per Delhi Airport's Flight Information Display System, a total of 11 international flights and 5 domestic flights to and from the airport were delayed today.
However, as of now, there is no official confirmation from the Ministry of Railways in connection to the delay of trains due to the fog in the national capital. Meanwhile, according to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature at Palam was recorded at 14°C while Safdarjung logged 12.2°C. As the chill tightened its grip on the national capital, many were seen huddling around bonfires to keep themselves warm.
In the face of the biting cold, many were also seen taking refuge at a night shelter at AIIMS. Similar scenes were also in evidence elsewhere, with locals under heavy blankets and quilts cooped up at night shelters in the Lodhi Road area. Locals out for cycling or taking morning walks said the mercury fell significantly in the early hours of Saturday and the cold was extreme.  "It's getting tougher for us to take morning strolls as the cold is extreme. The fog and pollution are further compounding the woes of regular commuters and morning walkers. We are having step outdoors wearing masks to keep out health problems caused because of pollution," a local told ANI on Saturday. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi, according to SAFAR-India (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research), was recorded in the 'Very Poor' range at 8.07 am on Saturday. The national weather forecasting agency earlier said the minimum temperature across North India was likely to increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in Northern India over the next three days.
