New Delhi: Two men were arrested from Punjab over charges for defacing walls at five Delhi Metro stations with pro-Khalistani messages, officials said on Thursday.  The accused identified as Pritpal Singh aka Kaka (30) and his associate Rajvinder alias Kale, who are associated with banned terror outfit SFJ, were promised $7,000 for the job by the SFJ handler, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.  The walls at the Metro stations of the Shivaji Park, Madipur, Paschim Vihar, Udyog Nagar, and Maharaja Surajmal Stadium were defaced with the slogans ‘Delhi Banega Khalistan’ and ‘Khalistan Zindabad’. A government school wall in Nangloi had also been defaced.  A video purportedly released by the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) displayed the vandalised Metro station walls.  In the video, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, spokesperson for SFJ, said: “During the G20 Summit in Delhi on September 10, we will be orchestrating a Khalistan referendum in Canada.”  Special Commissioner of Police (special cell) H.G.S Dhaliwal said that the duo was arrested from Punjab on Wednesday, on the basis of CCTV footage of the incidents.  Pritpal along with his associate Rajvinder was involved in painting pro-Khalistan graffiti on the walls of various Metro stations during the late evening hours of August 26.  “During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Pritpal came across a social media post about COVID patients. This post, presented as a helpline, was created by a pro-Khalistan/SFJ individual associated with SFJ handler Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Using the given helpline, Pritpal provided his and his family members’ names, receiving Rs 5,000 per name through Western Union,” explained the Special CP.  At the start of 2022, he received a mobile number from Pannun through a social media platform, though the number wasn’t on WhatsApp. He found the same number on the SIGNAL app, initiating communication with Pannun.  “Initially sending greetings without response, after 10-15 days, Pritpal received a reply, leading to text and voice conversations on SIGNAL. Their discussions included topics like referendums and Pannun informing him about VVIP movements, said the Special CP.  “Gradually building Pannun’s trust, Pannun sent him Rs 5,000 several times through Western Union. In June 2022, Pannun also sent Rs 90,000 for the treatment of Harjinder Singh (now deceased), Pritpal’s uncle. The money was transferred via Western Union, with Pritpal using his uncle’s Aadhaar card to receive it. He has received approximately Rs 2 lakh from Pannun thus far,” the official revealed.  About a month ago, Pannun assigned him the task of painting pro-Khalistan slogans (graffiti) in Delhi prior to the G-20 summit.  “To accomplish this, he was offered $7,000. He received an advance of $3,500 from Pannun. According to the arrangement, the remaining $3,500 would be given after completing the task,” explained the official.  Subsequently, Pritpal motivated his associate Rajvinder Kalu, who worked as a labourer in his office. Pritpal offered him half the payment, which he accepted. Following the plan, they bought paints from Barnala and travelled to Delhi from Bathinda via the Punjab Mail Train on August 25.  “They arrived at New Delhi Railway Station early on August 26, conducted reconnaissance in various areas of Delhi until 3 p.m, and selected the Metro Stations in West Delhi for painting pro-Khalistan slogans,” detailed the official.  “Later, they returned to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, prayed until 5 p.m, and at around 7 p.m, they took a bus to Punjabi Bagh and disembarked near Shivaji Park Metro Station. There, they painted pro-Khalistan graffiti on the walls of Metro stations between Shivaji Park Metro Station and Maharaja Surajmal Stadium Metro,” said the official.  “Following this, they took an auto-rickshaw to Safdarjung Railway Station, from where they caught an early morning train, arriving in Bathinda on the morning of August 27,” concluded the official  –IANS

Toronto: Sikhs turned up in large numbers at a Khalistan referendum event in Canada just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed New Delhi’s strong concerns the same day about continuing anti-India activities in the North American nation to his counterpart Justin Trudeau at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.  The vote to weigh support for Khalistan, a separate homeland for Sikhs in India, was held on Sunday in the British Columbian province of Surrey at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara where its former president Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead in June.  The outlawed Pro-Khalistani group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), which organised the referendum, said more than 100,000 people attended the event, the Global News channel reported.  “The turnout tells us, and the wider community, that the issue of Khalistan is not an issue for a fringe group of people but rather… this is a deep-rooted issue that touches the hearts and minds of many Sikhs,” Jatinder Grewal, a Sikh for Justice director, told the Vancouver-based news channel.  The vote was supposed to be held at a school in Surrey, but was cancelled after images of weapons on the poster were brought to the school authorities’ notice by concerned residents.  In a strongly-worded condemnation, Modi told Trudeau on Saturday that the extremist elements are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the community in Canada and their places of worship.  “The nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. It is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats,” a Ministry of External Affairs statement quoted Prime Minister Modi as saying.  In a media interaction after meeting his Indian counterpart, Trudeau said that the actions of the few do not represent the entire community or Canada.  “Canada will always defend freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and freedom of peaceful protest and it is extremely important to us. At the same time we are always there to prevent violence and to push back against hatred,” he said in response to a question on Khalistani extremism.  Just days before Trudeau had departed for India for the September 9-10 summit, Shri Mata Bhameshwari Durga temple in Surrey was vandalised with anti-India and pro-Khalistan graffiti slogans.  Despite New Delhi registering strong protests, an anti-India campaign has continued in Canada with pro-Khalistani graffiti and posters targeting Indian diplomats and temples across the country.  Incidents of Khalistani elements protesting outside the Indian consulate in Toronto displaying “Kill India” posters, had led to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar saying that Canada was apparently allowing these protests driven by votebank politics.

Khalistan referendum held in Canada as Modi raises concerns with Trudeau

New Delhi: Following the killing/death of three dreaded pro-Khalistani terrorists in the past few months, the name of designated Khalistani terrorist and chief of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, is on the top of the security agencies’ radar now.
Facing 22 criminal cases in Punjab, including three of sedition, Pannun is known to be operating from Khalistani terrorists’ safe heaven Canada.
On May 6, Khalistani leader Paramjit Singh Panjwar, the head of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), was shot dead in Lahore.On June 15, Avtar Singh Khanda, a leading exponent of Khalistan and handler of separatist Amritpal Singh, died of cancer at a hospital in the UK.
Three days later on June 18, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen and chief of the banned outfit Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), was gunned down by two unidentified gunmen outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.
Be it the rocket-propelled grenade attack on Punjab Police’s Intelligence headquarters in Mohali last year, an audio message asking Kashmiri Muslims residing in Srinagar to go to Delhi and disrupt the G20 Summit, or assassination threats to multiple Chief Ministers and other who’s who via telephonic audio messages — they all have been linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) founded by Pannun.
Just last week, Pannun declared to hold “Shaheed Nijjar kill India referendum” on the question: Is Indian High Commissioner Verma responsible for the ‘assassination’ of Hardeep Singh Nijjar?
He also announced to hold Khalistan Referendum-II on October 29 in Surrey, British Columbia.
Pro-Khalistan leader Nijjar, who was declared a ‘wanted terrorist’ by the Indian government, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen on the premises of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, of which he was the head, in the Punjabi-dominated Surrey city on June 18.
Since Nijjar’s killing, many radical activists have been questioning as three killings of Sikh separatists took place within one month. They say: Is there a pattern in the sudden killings of three Khalistani terrorists?
On Monday, Canada, in a surprise move, expelled a top Indian diplomat amid probe into the killing of Nijjar on its soil.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed ‘credible allegations of a potential link’ between agents of the Indian government and the killing of the Khalistani terrorist.
Now the question is over the role being played by Pannun of instigating a momentum on the foreign soil against the Indian government.
Who is Pannun?
The police in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have registered separate FIRs against Pannun, a law graduate from Panjab University in Chandigarh, over threats and attempting to disturb peace, stability and communal harmony.
Despite SFJ being a banned organisation in India since 2019 on grounds of secessionism and Pannun being declared a terrorist, countries like Canada, the UK and the US, with a sizable Sikh diaspora, have allowed the organisation to conduct anti-India activities, including holding illegal referendums to building a campaign for secession of Punjab.
Member of Indian diaspora admit that people like Pannun are raising charity in the name of referendums by abusing and accusing Indian authorities for atrocities against minorities, particularly the Sikh.
“In fact, most of the second or third generation of a particular community born and brought up in foreign shores, who have never witnessed the true face of militancy in Punjab (from 1981-1992), have been raising a bogey against India just at the instance of freedom,” remarked a Sikh scholar.
He told IANS that they are the one who have never witnessed the dark days of militancy.
“In the name of referendums, a handful of separatists like Pannun get the opportunity to establish their base overseas by raising funds from Pakistan’s ISI and similar agencies in China,” said a police official.
The Western countries don’t see crime to prosecute Pannun and other hardliners as they think it will be a violation of freedom of expression, he added.
Reacting to Trudeau’s allegations of “potential link between Indian government agents and murder of Nijjar”, senior BJP leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the murder was the result of a factional feud within the management of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey.
He said Trudeau had unfortunately walked into a trap owing to vote-bank politics and put at stake the diplomatic relationship between India and Canada.
In Punjab, 1,792 police personnel had sacrificed their lives while fighting terrorism between September 1981 and August 1992.
Back to the separatist activities of Pannun, he has been booked in 22 cases since 2017, including on terrorism and sedition charges. Recently, he was booked by the Punjab Police for sedition after SFJ activists wrote a pro-Khalistan slogan on a glass box covering the statue of slain Chief Minister Beant Singh in Jalandhar.
Himachal Pradesh Police in May had booked Pannun under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for hoisting of Khalistani flags outside the state Assembly complex in Shimla.
A law graduate from Panjab University, Pannun is currently residing in Oakville on the outskirts Canada’s Toronto.
Originally from Khankot village on the outskirts of Amritsar, Pannun’s father, Mahinder Singh, was an employee with the Punjab State Agricultural Marketing Board.
His family had migrated from Pakistan to Khankot during Partition in 1947. Pannun is little known in his village, where he owns property worth crores, including agricultural land. In fact, he rarely visited the village.
Pannun, an attorney at law in the US and Canada who has been offering employment abroad, besides cash incentives for hoisting the Khalistani flag on public buildings, is one of the founders of SFJ, which claims to be “an international advocacy and human rights group”.
Pannun, who asks the youth in Punjab to hoist the Khalistani flag on Independence Day, has been actively propagating and funding the secessionist Khalistan agenda abroad.

New Delhi/chandigarh: An official from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said Saturday that they had seized Gurpatwant Singh Pannu's home and land in Amritsar, Punjab, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, further tightening their grip on the "designated individual terrorist" from Canada. Pannu is the self-proclaimed general counsel of the outlawed Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) outfit.
According to a spokesperson for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the action is a major step forward in the country's crackdown on the terror and secessionist network being operated from various countries, including Canada. The action followed confiscation orders passed by the Special NIA Court, SAS Nagar, Mohali (Punjab).
The official stated that among the confiscated assets were a 46-kanal (5.7 acre) plot of farmland in the Khankot hamlet of Amritsar and a 1/4 interest in a home in the sector 15/C neighbourhood of Chandigarh.—Inputs from Agencies
