Taking an aggressive stand, the party leaders and workers have said they will not let the couple go back without 'prasad' "if they dared to turn up"."Around 8.45 am, angry Shiv Sena supporters broke through the barricades placed at a distance of around 50 meters from the apartment where the Ranas own a flat in suburban Khar. They tried to enter the apartment premises. Shiv Sena supporters raised slogans in support of Thackeray and dared the couple to step out of the residence," the police official said.However, the police personnel deployed at the spot brought the situation under control and dissuaded the party workers from indulging in anything that would create a law and order problem, he said.On Friday, Mumbai police had served a notice to Amaravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband, Badnera MLA Ravi Rana, asking them not to disturb the law and order situation in the city.Navneet Rana has been provided Y category security by the central government. Ravi Rana had earlier told reporters in Mumbai that he had demanded the chief minister read Hanuman Chalisa on Hanuman Jayanti "to rid Maharashtra of crises and attain peace for the state," but Thackeray had "refused" to do so.The city police have stepped up security outside 'Matoshree'. Barricades have been placed on the road leading to the Thackeray residence to avoid crowding, the official said."In order to maintain law and order situation, the police have increased security and deployed large number of personnel outside 'Matoshree'," the official said.Early this morning, senior police officers, including zonal DCP Manjunath Singe, visited the place and took stock of security deployment, he said.Besides 'Matoshree', the police have also increased security at 'Varsha', the official residence of CM Thackeray in south Mumbai.A Shiv Sena supporter camping outside 'Matoshree' said, "We have accepted the challenge of the Rana couple. Let them come, we are ready to welcome them and give them 'prasad'."Talking to reporters, Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai said, "'Matoshree' is a temple for Shiv Sainiks. We just wanted to go to the CM's home and recite Hanuman Chalisa with full faith to remind him of the forgotten ideals of the late Shiv Sena founder the late Balasaheb Thackeray. We were stopped from going there, we were gheraoed, our Amravati home was attacked. New Delhi: The Mumbai police on Friday told a special court that while on the face of it the plan of Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's residence in Mumbai may look innocent, but it was in fact a 'big plot' to challenge the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.The police also claimed that the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and the political opponents of Thackeray were trying to create an atmosphere to project him as anti-Hindu and not sponsoring the cause of Hinduism, and that in the present regime it was difficult for Hindus to practise their religion freely and thus the feeling of hate would increase against the Muslim religion causing a rift. The police made these claims in an affidavit filed through special public prosecutor Pradip Gharat opposing the bail pleas of the Rana couple, who were arrested on April 23 on sedition and other charges.Special judge R N Rokade said he would hear the bail pleas on Saturday.The couple is presently in judicial custody. The police said if released on bail the accused, who are influential persons, would tamper with the evidence or influence witnesses.The police further said that since the accused are not permanent residents of Mumbai, if granted bail they may not be available for the probe and trial.The police in their affidavit claimed that the BJP, which is the opposition party in Maharashtra, has been strongly opposing the administrative policies of the present government and criticising the ruling Shiv Sena for its stand on Hindutva.They claimed that the BJP was doing so as it was deprived of power after the Shiv Sena formed an alliance with the NCP and the Congress to form a government.'The opposite parties and political opponents of Shiv Sena have clashes on the point of religion. Some political parties and independent political leaders are raising issues and alleging that the chief minister of Maharashtra is against Hindutva and also alleging that the government is sponsoring the cause of other religions,' the police said. The police in their affidavit also rubbished the claims of the Ranas that they only wanted to chant Hanuman Chalisa, which is an act of prayer, and hence it cannot be construed as an offence.'However innocent these pleadings may seem like, the respondent (police) says that these submissions are the most hypocrite as the plan to read Hanuman Chalisa at 'Matoshree', the private residence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, is a big plot to create a challenge to the law and order situation,' the affidavit said.They added that the plan was intended to cause a collapse of the law and order situation and then seek for dissolution of the present government by the Governor of Maharashtra. 'The investigation has revealed that the accused persons who are strong political opponents of the present government have now taken a very smart move to make use of the sacred 'stotra' (religious book),' the police said. 'By creating a law and order situation of this nature, the accused persons are trying to show that the present state government is not sponsoring the cause of Hinduism and the chief minister is against Hindus,' it added.The police further claimed that criticism, even though strongly worded, should be done within reasonable limits. 'However, when the use of words has the pernicious tendency or intention of creating public disorder or disturbance of law and order then the provisions of sedition are attracted,' the police said in its affidavit.They added that when words are spoken with an intention to bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the government and Constitution of India, or to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different classes of citizens, then the provision of sedition is made out.The police further said that the Ranas did not pay heed to the notice issued to them on April 22, requesting them to not go to the chief minister's residence. The accused created feelings of hatred, enmity and rivalry amongst the public and the serious offence of sedition was made out against them, it added. While Navneet Rana is lodged in Byculla women's prison, her husband, who is MLA from Badnera in eastern Maharashtra, is in Taloja jail in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.—PTI

Mumbai: A Mumbai Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana, who were arrested in the 'Hanuman Chalisa' recital case.The couple was arrested from their home after giving a call for reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's private residence.According to their lawyer Rizwan Merchant, the duo shall be released on a bail of Rs 50,000 each, ordered not to speak to the media pertaining to the case under investigations and refrain from tampering with evidence, etc.&nbsp;The Rana duo was booked and arrested by Khar Police Station on April 23 and slapped with several charges, including sedition, breach of public peace, making inciting statements, and other sections for their plans to chant 'Hanuman Chalisa' outside the Thackeray's personal home, 'Matoshri' in Bandra east.The Special Public Prosecutor Pradip Gharat argued that chanting of Hanuman Chalisa could incite religious passions, which was strongly opposed by the Ranas' lawyers.—IANS

Her lawyer had then said she had complaints of high blood pressure, body-ache and spondylitis.She was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.“We are going to Delhi today and meet all the leaders who respect women. I am going to meet the prime minister, (Union) home minister and Lok Sabha Speaker and tell them how we were ill-treated from a lockup to jail. I am going to complain about it," said Navneet Rana, who was flanked by her husband.Describing Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut as a “parrot”, Navneet Rana alleged that he had talked about "burying the couple".“We had filed a complaint against it here, but no action was taken. So, I am going to Delhi to raise the issue,” she said.The Ranas also categorically denied having committed any contempt of court by speaking to the press.“We did not talk about the offence, how it was registered against us, reciting 'Hanuman Chalisa' and Matoshree. New Delhi:&nbsp;The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Post Graduate (NEET) 2022 was held today as per schedule in 849 centres across 267 cities. A total of 2,06,301 candidates took the test, informed Health Ministry. The exam comes after a month of speculation, court plea and demands for postponement of NEET PG 2022. The examination was held at all centres smoothly.More than 1,700 invigilators were appointed by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Science (NBEMS) for appraising the conduct of examinations at the test centres, informed the Union Health Ministry. Around 18,000 invigilators of TCS iON attended the examination. Central observers of NBEMS also visited the centres in real-time to oversee the conduct of the examination. NEET PG 2022 was conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) mode with a duration of 3 hours 30 minutes. The Supreme Court on Friday, May 13, had also refused to postpone NEET PG 2022.—ANI

Navneet had recently moved the Lok Sabha privileges committee with her complaint and the panel had called her to appear before it."I presented my case before the committee and shared all the details with them...and how I was mistreated and casteist remarks were hurled against me. I have taken names of all -- from the Maharashtra chief minister to the Mumbai police commissioner," she told reporters after the meeting. "I have sought justice from the committee" she added.Sources said now the committee may call top Mumbai police officials over the complaint.Navneet, the MP from Amravati in Maharashtra, and her MLA-husband Ravi Rana were arrested on April 23 by the Mumbai Police after the couple announced they would recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's private residence 'Matoshree' in Mumbai, which had angered Shiv Sena workers, Thackeray's party, leading to tension.The couple was granted bail on May 4 by a special Mumbai court. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on 1,456 vacant seats in NEET PG-2021, saying if students are not given admission, then it will pass orders and also grant them compensation. A vacation bench comprising Justices M.R. Shah and Aniruddha Bose told the MCC counsel, "Even if the single course has remained vacant...It`s your duty to see that they don`t remain vacant."The bench got irked to learn that 1,456 seats have remained vacant in medical colleges in the 2021-22 session. It said the MCC and Centre are playing with the life of students by not conducting a mop up round of counselling for students. "You're playing with the future of students...," said the bench, adding that in May, the authorities learnt that seats were vacant, so why didn`t they conduct a mop up round.The bench told the MCC counsel, "Why during the midst of the counselling, you're adding the seats? There must be a cut off that as on date there are a number of seats..." The MCC counsel submitted that orders in the matter would lead to cascading effect and requested the court to allow him to place an affidavit on record to explain the matter.The top court emphasized that the country needs doctors and super speciality medical professionals, and told the MCC counsel that if the students are not given admission, then it will pass an order and also grant them compensation. The top court directed officers concerned to remain present in the court tomorrow, when it will pass order in the matter. "We`ll pass orders for paying compensation... Who`s responsible for this situation? ...Call your officer tomorrow...," said the bench.The bench further added, "We need doctors...Why is there no streamline?... Do you know the stress level of the students and the parents?"The bench allowed the MCC counsel to file its affidavit during the course of the day and emphasized, "these are very important matters related to rights of the students".The top court made these observations while hearing a plea by a doctor Atharv Tungatkar, who appeared for the NEET PG-2021 and qualified it.The plea, filed through advocate Kunal Cheema, said: "The petitioner is constrained to approach this court since precious medical seats may go unfilled/improperly filled and merit may be the casualty, since the modified scheme placed before this court by the Respondent no.1 in the matter of Nihil a P.P. v/s The Medical Counselling Committee...salient features of which are recorded by this court in order dated 16.12.2021 passed in the said matter, does not provide for, as to what happens to those AIQ seats which remain vacant despite the fourth round." The plea added, "The chances of many seats remaining vacant after the fourth round is inevitable for the reasons stated hereinafter and the hence the petitioner is filing the present writ petition for appropriate writ praying for direction that the same shall revert back to the states, so that meritorious candidates would get a chance to avail the same". —IANS

New Delhi:&nbsp;The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has informed the Supreme Court that four rounds of online counselling for NEET-PG 2021 have been already conducted and 1,456 medical seats have remained vacant, as the software stands closed. The DGHS said since the software is closed, further rounds of counselling could not be conducted to fill up the medical seats.The DGHS in an affidavit, submitted the software, which was used for online counselling of NEET-PG 2021, is closed and refund of security deposit for participating in PG counselling has been initiated. It also added that the petitioner has made the plea at a belated stage and it may impact the whole process for upcoming counselling session for NEET-PG 2022, and it is also difficult to run concurrently counselling for two academic sessions. A vacation bench comprising Justices M.R. Shah and Aniruddha Bose on Wednesday sought response from the Central government on petitions seeking a special stray round of counselling for the 1,456 vacant seats. The DGHS said it has acted in a bonafide manner and complied with the direction of the apex court in full letter and spirit, and no further rounds apart from four online rounds of counselling could be conducted. It added that NEET-PG 2021 counselling was delayed due to third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.The DGHS said as per the direction of the top court it conducted four rounds of online counselling for the PG course and the last date of admissions for the PG course was May 7. These rounds of counselling also included an additional online special round for 146 seats, following March 31 order of the apex court, it added. Nath, a Central Government panel counsel in Kerala, who was arrested in connection with a sexual abuse complaint made against him by a colleague, another lawyer.Justice Thomas, while granting bail subject to some conditions, noted that even though the offences alleged are of a serious nature, the petitioner is not likely to flee from justice and has no criminal antecedents.The allegation against Nath was that he had been in a relationship with his colleague, another lawyer, for over four years but in the end, he decided to marry another woman.When the complainant learnt of this, she met Nath's fiancee at a hotel and allegedly tried to commit suicide by slitting her veins.When she told the police the reason for her action, Nath was arrested last month and he then moved for bail at the Kerala High Court.Counsel for Nath told the court that his party had every intention of marrying her and that the sexual relationship between them, which subsisted for many years, was absolutely consensual and loving.His further told the Court that they were aware from the beginning that their relationship may face roadblocks as they belonged to different faiths but the complainant, knowingly took her chances and continued in the relationship.The Judge pointed out that since the case arose between a couple who had been in a relationship for over four years, the prosecution case may be affected by the Supreme Court decision in Pramod Suryabhan Pawar v The State Of Maharashtra."What the Supreme Court held in Pramod's case is that the long period of a relationship is indicative of an absence obtaining consent by promising to marry. Thiruvananthapuram (The Hawk): The National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test (NEET) this year was a major embarrassment and insult for the girls who travelled to Marthoma Institute of Information Technology in Ayur, Chadayamangalam, in Kerala's Kollam district. They were made to remove their undergarments before entering the examination hall by the invigilators.
At the metal detection step of the frisking operation, more than 100 female students were made to endure extreme humiliation and disrespect by being required to remove their underwear. Students claimed that before taking the exam, which required years of dedicated preparation, they had to go through psychological agony.
The NEET dress code prohibits students from wearing any metallic clothing or accessories inside the testing facility. Slippers and sandals are accepted in place of shoes.
A police report was made by the father of a student from Sooranad in the Kollam district who was made to take off her underwear. After submitting the police report, he spoke to the media and said: "My daughter was expecting a high rank in the exam and had been studying for the NEET since she was in eighth grade but this happened devastated her."
The Chadayamangalam police responded to his accusation by filing a case under Sections 354 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Following the complaint, five ladies were detained on July 19, 2022. Two Marthoma Institute of Technology employees and three members of the private security firm were among those detained.
More than 100 girls allegedly endured the humiliation in silence, according to the girl who filed the lawsuit. She continued, saying that the exam room included both boys and girls, that brassieres were thrown in a basket outside, and that she was ashamed to take the test without undergarments.
There is no requirement that underwear be removed in order to take the NEET exam, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the test.
It's interesting to note that the security personnel assigned by the NTA to the exam duty were unaware of the trauma being experienced by the pupils during a test where good mental health is a crucial component of success.
Dr. R. Bindhu, the minister of higher education for Kerala, had personally brought up the subject with the union education minister, and later, V. Muraleedharan, the union minister of state for external affairs, also brought it up.
Professor Subadra N. of a government college in Kerala said to IANS: "Let's hope that the NTA and the college administration that oversees the exam show more restraint and use judgement before taking such severe measures in the upcoming year. Additionally, they should take more care when hiring security personnel because they should know at the very least how crucial these exams are to the future of these students and how many years of perseverance, patience, and arduous study would have been wasted due to the foolish actions of these so-called security personnel hired from some unregistered private agencies."
She argued that educators and those in charge of the exam's administration must properly scout the test and remove any unwelcome features from the NEET exam centres.

On Monday night, a girl and a boy who were taking the NEET exam were travelling to Ganga Pathway for a late-night ride when the disaster happened.
Sub-Inspector Phool Kumar Chaubey of the Digha police station said: "The victims were undergoing NEET test preparation while residing in a hostel. On the Atal Path-Ganga Pathway rotary divider, they were involved in an accident."
"The high-speed motorcycle skidded for more than 20 metres with riders after slamming into the divider. The gravely injured pair was saved by us, and we brought them to a private hospital in Patliputra colony, where they passed away "said Chaubey.
"The families of the victims have been notified. The guy is an Arrah local, while the female lives in the Rohtas district's Dinara "said he.
