Harare:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.aninews.in/topic/minister-of-state-for-external-affairs" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); background-color: transparent;">Minister of State for External Affairs</a>&nbsp;V Muraleedharan, on his visit to Zimbabwe on Wednesday, handed over a consignment of 288 boxes of medicines to treat tuberculosis (TB) to the Deputy Minister of Health and Family Welfare John Mangwiro. Muraleedharan said he is confident that these medicines will help Zimbabwe in its fight against tuberculosis. "From the people of India to the people of Zimbabwe. Muraleedharan met the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zimbabwe, advocate Jacob Francis Mudenda on Tuesday. The MoS exchanged views on strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.He is on an official visit to African nations -- Zimbabwe and Malawi -- from June 6 to 9. Muraleedharan will also review the progress of the development assistance projects under the Government of India Lines of Credit (LoCs) and Grants in both countries. The MoS had a virtual meeting with Dr Frederick Shava, on June 28, 2021. The Ministers reviewed the entire gamut of the bilateral relationship, including political cooperation, cooperation in the fields of health, energy, trade, investments, and multilateral fora. India gifted 10 ambulances, which had been promised during the visit of the Vice President to Zimbabwe in 2018. A consignment of 35,000 Covaxin vaccine doses was provided in the month of March 2021. India also handed over three vehicles for the Indo-Zim Technology Centres, for which the latest technology machines are worth approx. USD 3 million have been supplied under Phase II. India shares excellent bilateral relations with both Zimbabwe and Malawi ranging across political, economic, cultural, and development assistance fields, which have particularly strengthened in the past few years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian leadership maintained close contact with the leadership of both the countries and supported them in their fight against the pandemic.—ANI

Muraleedharan told the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the government attaches the highest priority to the safety, security and well-being of Indians in foreign countries, including those in the foreign jails.Indian missions/posts abroad remain vigilant and closely monitor the incidents of Indian nationals being put in jail in foreign countries for violation/alleged violation of local laws."As soon as the information about the detention/arrest of an Indian national is received by Embassy of India in Nepal, it immediately gets in touch with the concerned local authorities to get consular access to the detained/arrested Indian national to ascertain the facts of the case, confirm his Indian nationality, and ensure his welfare. Apart from extending them all possible consular assistance, legal assistance to imprisoned Indians is being provided by the Embassy in deserving cases on a means tested basis."Cases are also raised with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal for taking up the matter with concerned authorities of Government of Nepal. The issue of repatriation of Indian nationals in Nepalese prisons is regularly pursued by Embassy with the local authorities concerned," he said. —IANS

Muscat (Oman): Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan arrived in the capital city of Oman, Muscat on Monday for a two-day visit to deepen ties between both the countries.
"Arrived in Muscat for a 2-day visit to Oman to deepen the political engagement between both the countries. Look forward to discussions with Omani leadership and interaction with the diverse cross-section of our diaspora," the Union Minister said in a tweet.
As per a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Union Minister will be in Oman from October 3-4. This will be his second visit to Oman and a part of the periodic exchange of high-level visits to reinforce the shared commitment to an "ever-growing" relationship between both the countries. Muraleedharan, during his visit, will meet the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, and other senior dignitaries and engage in discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. He will participate in a community reception and interact with a wide cross-section of the Indian community in Oman, particularly those in the health, education, business, and social service sectors, as per the statement.
As per the Embassy of India in Oman, there are about 624,000 Indians in Oman, of which about 4,83,901 are workers and professionals, as of May 2021. There are Indian families living in Oman for more than 150-200 years. Moreover, the two countries hold strong economic, commercial and cultural ties. The Union Minister last visited Oman on 15-17 December 2020.
Besides, there has been sustained and frequent exchange of high-level visits between both countries.
In 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Oman, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Oman in 2019.
In recent months, Foreign Minister of Oman Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi visited India in March 2022, and Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion visited India in May 2022.
India and Oman share warm and friendly relations underpinned by historical and cultural linkages and strong people-to-people ties.
As per the MEA statement, the visit will provide an opportunity to comprehensively review the state of bilateral relations between India and Oman and to chart pathways to further deepen and strengthen it. –ANI

Sao Paulo (Brazil): On his first-ever visit to Brazil, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Monday reached Sao Paulo.
He will be addressing the Brazilian Congress at the Solemn Session on 75 years of India's Independence.
"Happy to arrive at Sao Paulo, Brazil, with whom we share a strategic partnership. Look forward to my engagements including addressing the Brazilian Congress at the Solemn Session on 75 years of India's Independence, interaction with Brazilian leadership and Indian community," tweeted Muraleedharan.
MoS will attend the Solemn Session on 75 years of India's Independence on November 8 which will be held in the Brazilian Parliament (Congresso Nacional). This will be the first-ever visit of MoS Muraleedharan to Brazil, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The minister will also address the congregation of Brazilian Parliamentarians, both from the upper and lower house; representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and International Organizations; representatives of the Brazilian Government and Friends of India during his official visit to Brazil.
MoS Muraleedharan will also call upon the Vice President of Brazil and have interactions at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by which he will also meet the Indian community in Sao Paulo and participate in a reception in Brasilia with members of the Congress and Senate, Diplomats, members of Brazilian Government and the Indian community, the MEA release said.
The meeting between leaders of the two countries will emphasize ways to bolster ties between Brazil and India.
India and Brazil are celebrating 74 years of diplomatic relations in 2022. They have had a strategic partnership since 2006, deepened in 2020 through the Action Plan to Strengthen the Strategic Partnership and are working together in various international forums, like BRICS, IBSA, G4, G20, BASIC, and the United Nations. —ANI

Mumbai: An Indian Air Force flight brought 246 Indians - who were evacuated from the strife-torn Sudan - to Mumbai via Jeddah, under 'Operation Kaveri', an official said here on Thursday.

The flight by an IAF C-17 Globemaster aircraft took off from Jeddah this morning and landed here after 3 p.m., and the passengers included at least two on wheelchairs.

Simultaneously, the Indian Navy has got into the act in a big way for the evacuation of Indians stranded in Sudan.

The INS Teg, an anti-piracy patrol vessel was diverted to Port Sudan and retrieved 297 Indians and dropped them to Jeddah.

Earlier, the first ship INS Sumedha had brought 278 Indians to Jeddah on Wednesday (April 26).

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said: "Another #OperationKaveri flight comes to Mumbai. 246 more Indians come back to the motherland."

Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei): Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Wednesday interacted with the Indian community in Brunei. "Continuing my engagements in Brunei, visited Belait district and interacted with Indian community. Known for its oil and gas, Belait hosts good number of Indians, who contribute significantly to the economy and energy security of Brunei," MoS Muraleedharan said in a tweet. He is on an official visit to Brunei and Malaysia from May 30-June 2. Muraleedharan on Tuesday tweeted: "Delighted to be in Brunei Darussalam on my first visit to this beautiful country. Look forward to my engagements including with businesses and wider Indian community." It is estimated that over 14,000 Indians have made Brunei their home. The Indian Associations in Brunei will host cultural performances as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations, the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official release. For the first time, Muraleedharan has travelled to Brunei and he will be in Brunei from May 30-31. From Brunei, he will embark on an official visit to Malaysia from June 1-2. In Malaysia, the MoS will have a private meeting with Malaysia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin. The Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, V Sivakumar will also meet with the MOS. MOS will take part in the inauguration of the first-ever Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Day -Malaysia (Aprawasi Diwas) and will launch the PIO International Festival to be held from 2-4 June 2023. He will address the Indian community and diaspora at the 'Pravasiya Bharatiya Utsav'. MoS Muraleedharan Interacts With Indians In Malaysia Under Pravasi Bharatiya Utsav

Kuala Lumpur: Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, during his Malaysia visit, jointly inaugurated the first-ever PIO Malaysia Event organised by GOPIO Malaysia together with the Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia on Friday.
He also delivered a key-note address at the inaugural session of an International Conference titled 'India-ASEAN Dynamics in the Emerging Indo-Pacific Order: Pathways to Cooperation beyond the Third Decade', organised by the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with the Centre for ASEAN Regionalism University Malaya (CARUM) and Asia Europe Institute (AEI).
Muraleedharan is exploring new avenues of collaboration with the Southeast Asian country towards realising the Enhanced Strategic Partnership which was established during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia in 2015.
During the visit, MoS held bilateral meetings with Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Ramkarpal Singh, Deputy Minister of Prime Minister's Department (Parliamentary Affairs) and Senator Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Muraleedharan also called on YB V Sivakumar, Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia and thanked the Malaysian government for opening all sectors to Indian workers at par with other foreign workers in Malaysia. Both sides discussed issues of interest on labour matters and agreed to expedite the early signing of the bilateral MoU on recruitment, employment and repatriation of workers.
The MoS also held interactions with prominent political leaders, a wide spectrum of Indian diaspora associations, captains of industry, and cultural associations at the Indian Community Reception. He held interactions with business leaders at a luncheon meeting hosted by the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) and Malaysia India Business Council. He also interacted with a group of Indian workers in Malaysia.

MoS Muraleedharan Inaugurates First-Ever PIO Malaysia Event

New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Tuesday reiterated his charge that the continuing attacks on him were being carried out under the directions of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and asked the state chief secretary and police chief not to brush-off take the SFI attack case.  He was referring to the SFI activists who stopped his car on Monday evening while on his way to the Thiruvananthapuram airport.  “I have asked the chief secretary and the state police chief not to haul up this case as there is a provision for the Governor and the President of Section 124 under the IPC. The Chief Minister’s post doesn’t have this benefit,” said Khan when told that the arrested SFI students have been charged under flimsy charges,” said Khan, who arrived in the national capital on Monday late night.  “Yesterday three times I came under the protesters and what is to be noted is that these protesters were brought in police jeeps and after the incident they were taken back in these jeeps,” added Khan and slammed the police for putting charges under 300 A when a shoe was thrown at the vehicle carrying Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers.  He said, "The government is doing this to scare me, but I am not going to be scared.  “They are angry because after the chief secretary in an affidavit before the Kerala High Court explained about the financial situation, I have asked for a report on it. The chief minister was heard saying that the government need not reply to all questions asked by the governor. No CM has ever said such a thing. I will wait for 10 days, if no reply comes, I will go forward,” said Khan.  “In Kerala, the collapse of the Constitutional machinery has started. Now I am in Delhi and will return to Kerala and have a programme at Kozhikode on the 16th and I will have no problem if they show black flags, but if they come near my car, I will stop and get out of the car,” said Khan.  He slammed State Industries and Law Minister P. Rajeeve who said the governor should have sat in the car, to which he said, “Since the car was of high quality, the glass did not break. The car’s glass has been beaten up and there are lots of scratches and the inspection of it is presently on,”.  “The chief minister is behind this and this was a pre-planned attack,” said Khan and added that just because the Communist is ruling Kerala none should think an autocratic rule can take place, as India is a democracy and Kerala is a state only."  Levelling grave charges, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan said there seems to be a total collapse of law and order in Kerala.  Meanwhile, the SFI is in no mood to relent and have said their protest against the governor will continue and he will not be allowed entry to any campuses.  —IANS
